privacy and data security.. google announces it's getting rid of its social media platform google plus..after congress learned that the platform had a security breach..that affected 500- thousand users.but steven dres, a professor of management information systems at san diego state university,...says it's important not to equate google's security flaw... with facebook's massive data breach. steven andres/san diego state universityso this was the security breach that never really was a breach.there were only 496, 951 google plus users that even filled out the optional fields in questions. these included gender, occupation, workplace, birthday. and of those folks, they would have to mark those fields nonpublic. and choose to share it with another friend, and then that friend would have to log in to a third party site from only 438 developers. so the scope of this is quite small especially in comparison to the facebook breach. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg was grilled by

congress earlier this year..after the data of 30- million facebook users was compromised... provoking congress to ask if the tech company was doing enough to protect user information. republican senator john thune it's increasingly clear that industry self regulation in this area is not sufficient. a national standard for privacy rules of the road is neededand in the coming weeks googe ceo sundar pichai is expected to take the stand.google discovered and patched up the security breach in march..but didn't reveal it to the public. and that is already a point of contention with congressmembe rs.but some tech experts say.. users shouldn't be alarmed. steven andres/san diego state universitywell there is always going to be an outsized reaction when we feel some of our information has been inappropriately used. but let's not forget we have some control of this. we can put that information there in the first place. it seems that a majority of google plus users didn't fill out these fields they were optional.and even when they did they were sharing them with friends. so when you think about all that

happened was their friends went and used a site and information that was known to that friend was transmitted to a third party site.
