( robin ) breaking overnight... a truck slams into the great mall in milpitas. this is new video from overnight. this happened around 1:00 this morning. you can see the truck smashed up against the wall. the truck just missed hitting the doors of the mall. one man was loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher. we are still waiting to learn his condtion this morning. we do have a crew on the way to the scene. we will get an update from them in a live report at 5:00. ( robin ) breaking news this morning... a u-s navy helicopter has crashed on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. this happened off the coast of the philippines. several people were hurt. we do not know the extent of their injuries but they are believed to be non life threatening. ( robin ) happening now... an air quality advisory is in effect. it began wednesday night with hazy skies across the bay area -- especially in

the east bay. úa lot of the haze is caused by smoke coming from fires in southern oregon... kron4's hermela aregawi has the latest. an air quality advisory for much of the the bay area...as smoke from fires in northern california.. and southern oregon pollutes the air.lisa fasano/bay area air district and that smoke is going out over the ocean. it's getting mixed in with the fog. and it's making its way down. and then there's really no telling once it's in the fog, what's the difference between the fog or the smoke, but it comes in through the bay. so we may see times that we might have peaks or people may smell smoke. experts say the particles released by the smoke.. bypass the lungs and enter the blood stream.. making it dangerous for children, the elderly and those with breathing conditions.they say right now the pollution is at a moderate level..lisa fasano/bay level.. a moderate level..lisa fasano/bay area air quality management district anything over 101 is in exceedence of the federal air standard. right now we're in the moderate category in much of the bay area and we have good air quality in other parts. the air quality management

( robin ) happening today... an alameda county sheriff's deputy and a former deputy will be in court. sarah krause and stephen sarcos are charged with assault after being accused of mistreating inmates at the santa rita jail in dublin. today a judge could decide if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial. prosecutors say the deputies allowed an inmate to throw human waste at other inmates.

two other deputies have also been charged but they are being prosecuted in a separate trial. ( robin ) another big story we are following... the diocese of san jose has released a list of priests accused of abusing children.. kron four's rob fladeboe has the details. john salberg/priest abuse victim "...i would love to see the catholic church cleanse themselves completely..."john salberg is a survivor of sexual abuse by a priest, the late father josephpritchard, whose name is on a list of known, credble child sex abusersreleased thursday by the san jose diocese.john salbert/survivor of sexual abuse by priests "...im not expecting too much, i would not just love to see the catholic church cleanse itself of this once and for all..."salberg's case was settled in 2005 but he continues to speak out on behalf of other victims.john salberg "...i've gotten past it, i am disappointed, i just wish the church would come

clean..."all of the priests on the list are either deceased or banned from the ministry. bishop patrick mcgrath, shown here in an unrelated story, issued a statement expressing his deepest apologies for the actions of those who were in positions of authority who violated that sacred tust by abusing children."john salberg ",....the only way to resolve this is if the vatican would release all the information it has about the abuse world wide..."the release of the names follows a series of "listening sessions" held by the diocese in recent weeks to uncover evidence of sex abuse by clergy dating back to the 1960's.john salberg "...ii,ve been let down by the church for the last 16 years but i am happy and yet a little disappointed that this may just be a reaction to the grand jury report out of the diocese in pennsylvania rather than their own good will...rob fladeboe/san jo

( robin ) as soon as the san jose catholic diocese released the names of priests accused of abuse... we sent a push alert and posted all the names to kron- 4-dot-com. download the kron4 mobile app and be the first to know about breaking news in your area. ( robin ) after several complaints from people living in san francisco's sunset district about the water... the public utilities commission has tested it and says it is safe to drink. earlier this month... people raised concerns after they say they noticed a change to the taste and smell of the water. some of the people say they used home water test kits and those tests revealed pesticieds in the water. the s-f-p-u-c conducted their own tests and say no

pesticides were found. ( robin ) a u-s park police officer who shot a man in san francisco's aquatic parkwill not be identified unless he is charged with a crime. we first told you about this story earlier this week on the kron 4 morning news. this morning that man is still in critical condition. the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. police have not said what prompted the shooting tuesday night... but they did find a gun at the scene. and a second person was arrested for having a gun with a large capacity magazine. ( robin ) new this morning in the south bay... 7 people including 5 teenagers are under arrest for a robbery spree in santa clara county. the robberies over a 5 hour span in santa clara... san jose and campbell. a total of 5 people were robbed. 4 of the victims were injured... but the are expected to be okay. the attackers also assaulted a man who tried to fight back when they tried to rob him. the bart plaza in downtown berkeley reopened with a celebration. the 13 million dollar project replaced the plaza's brick rotunda with a glass awning. this is video of some of the construction. you can see crews tearing down the old structure to build the new one. the berkeley mayor called the new plaza a more pedestrian friendly and welcoming environment. the transit hub includes stops for contra costa transit district buses as well as the bart stop that is below ground. the rennovation took more than a year to complete. ( robin ) a new report says there is ánoá data to support the claim that the hunters point naval shipyard is safe. (ááboxesáá) the report released by "the committee to bridge the gap" says most of the site was never tested for radioactivity. and they claim that many of the results from the areas that were tested were faked. the committee met with people who live at the former shipyard to show them the results of the

report. bridge the gap plans to release three more reports in the coming weeks. the u-s navy has not commented on the reports. ( robin ) people in bay view and pittsburg are finally back home -- after being evacuated for about 16 hours because of the fire in the chevron vault. (ááboxesáá) we brought you this story as breaking news all morning yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... 4-thousand people were evacuated wednesday night after a fire threatened an underground natural gas pipeline. chevron sent crews to the vault to look a the damage of the fire and look at repairs going forward. fire investigators are trying to determine what exactly started that fire. (robin) coming up on the kron 4 morning news ... a teenager from the east bay has been in the trauma unit for nearly a week after being crushed by a car while taking it for a joy ride. and now he has a message for others thinking about taking part in sideshows. story we are following... more rain is expected in central texas --- where water levels are already dangerously high. the water level in a lake near austin --- are already so high that nearby buildings are barely visable. texas governor greg abbott has already issued disaster declarations for 18 counties affected by the flooding. so far at least two

as kron 4's charles clifford explains - this is also good opportunity for everyone to make sure they are earthquake ready as well. earlier this month, bart announced that they are testing out a new beta version of the shake alert system. the system, which was designed by the usgs and the berkeley seismology lab, can provide several seconds of warning before an earquake hits, giving bart enough time to slow down or maybe even stop a moving train. bart is one of a handfull of agencies and businesses that are testing out the beta version. pg&e and the san francisco fire department are also on board. for now, shakealert is only available in a limited beta form, but the plan is to eventually give it to everyone. angela chung is a project scientist at the berkeley seismology lab. she says that the one day people could recieve earthquake alerts on their phones the same way that they get amber alerts.sotwe are sending alerts to our system. that part is done. the next step is for cell phone providers to send these alerts to the public.but while the system can now send out earthquake warnings, there is still a lot of work left to do to make the alerts accurate. the usgs and need to expand their network of earthqauke detecting sensors. that could cost

upwards of 60 million dollars. and, once the technology is in place, they will still need about 29 million dollars every year to keep it operational. despite the challenges, chung is optimistic that shakealert could become available to millions of people along the west coast in just a few years. they are starting with california.sotsouthern california and the bay area are the most densly populated so we are starting there but we also want to do seattle and portland.

( robin ) another big story we are following... 93 women are suing the university of souther. california. they say they were sexually harassed or abused by a campus gynecologist. this brings the numer of accusers agaisnt the doctor to almost 500. lisa si-gell reports. "dr. tyndall impeded my ability to seek medical help." with tears and emotions high these women stood together in solidarity. . reliving the horrific detailsthey say they faced when they visited former usc gynecologist george tyndall."he took pictures of me while i was completely naked.""i couldn't believe it when i found out that the lapd has boxes of photos."brennan heil/ usc student:"he molested me, made me feel less than." and today as these women spoke out. . 93 more lawsuits were filed against usc and tyndall. . bringingthe total number of

cases to more than four hundred. alleged victims claiming gross sexual misconductor sexual abuse at the hands of the doctor and that usc knew. . covered up complaints. . and concealed his actionsduring tyndall's 30 years at the university.marie nowacki/ former usc student: "how was i, a 20-year-old girl, new to gynecological treatment, expected to know that dr. tyndall's conduct was illegal and wrong?"but these women know. two of the first victims to accuse former usa gymnastics team doctorand associate professor at michigan state university larry nassar of sexually molesting them.nassar is now in prison. . but they want justice for all.rachael denhollander/ nassar victim: "and now only a few months later we are here, and this is the next time. and i am asking usc do it better this time. do it better than msu did. treat these women like the family you promised them they were." ( robin ) in the east bay... november's first friday street festival in oakland has been canceled... it's because of the violence that broke out in the festival that was held at the beginning of this month... the festival had been scheduled for november second... but organizers canceled the event after they say two people shot at each other-- injuring three others... although the shooting happened three hours after the event had shut down and several blocks from the festival-- organizers say they are taking the incident very seriously... when they relaunch oakland first fridays they say they will have new security procedures in place. ( robin ) happening this weekend... parts of 880 in oakland will be closed as caltrans works on an overpass... the southbound side of 880 at 23rd avenue

what you do before you do something stupid.on saturday, the 16 year old was hanging outside the window of a moving vehicle while the driver was doing donuts in this parking lot. as the car was doing the donut the car got heavy on one side. my brother is 300 pounds on this side. it definitely went over and rolled on top of himthe al-ham-bra high school student-athlete has endured hours of surgery.he's been screaming and cryingthey were able to stop the internal bleeding and fix the shattered tailbone and pelvis.seeing him in bed screaming and crying isn't easy for mehis mother tells me the 10th grader is now suffering from internal bleeding, a crushed pelvis, torn urethra, broken tailbone, and possible nerve damage in his right leg. it'll take months before he's back home, and even longer for a full recovery.it will take up to a year for him to be fully recovered. and there are other things we wont know until 6/8 weeks from now.because his pelvis is crushed, he had rods coming out his sides like a cage, so he can't move.please stop, you guys don't do this.

be conducting controlled burns today on several small plots of grass in the ellis creek water recycling facility. officials say smoke will be visible around lakeville highway and schollenberger park throughout the day. the petaulma fire department is asking residents not to call 9-1-1 if they see smoke in the area. ( robin ) the santa cruz county sheriff's office have released a sketch of a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at jose avenue park wednesday. deputies say a woman in her 20's was jogging through the park just before 11 a-m when she stopped to use the restroom. she says a man followed her and pushed her into a stall and assaulted her. deputies believe the man is a transient in his late 20's or 30's. officials have increased patrols at the park. ( robin ) police in vacaville arrested a man in connection to arson at a wedding venue. it happened at the mission on the on east monte vista avenue sunday morning. police say a fire destroyed part of

the inside of the events center... and caused heavy smoke damage in the rest of the building. police arrested 45-year-old terry smith after reviewing surveillance video and connecting him to the crime. ( robin ) for your health this morning... hundreds of pounds of ready-to-eat salads sold at major grocery stores are being recalled. officials say the salads ácouldá contain corn that is contaminated with salmonella and listeria. they were sold at walmart... trader joe's... whole foods... and 7-eleven. one of the suppliers that distributed the salads is in sacramento. all of the salads were made earlier this month. if you have salads that contain corn from any of the affected stores... it's best to just throw it away. ( robin ) the mega millions jackpot keeps getting bigger. it is now 970- million dollars. officials raised the estimated jackpot ahead of today's drawing. if the winner chooses the cash option...

who had to be evacuated after the vault fire in bay point have returned home. we brought you this story as breaking news yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... 4-thousand people were evacuated wednesday night after a fire threatened an underground natural gas pipeline. chevron sent crews to the vault to look a the damage of the fire and look at repairs going forward. fire investigators are trying to determine what exactly started that fire. ( james ) in the south bay... the diocese of san jose has released the names of clergy credibly accused of abusing chidlren. john salberg is a survivor of sexual abuse by a priest.. the late father joseph pritchard.. whose name was on the list of known abusers. all of the priests on the list are either deceased or banned from the ministry. salberg's case was settled back on 2005 but he continues to speak out on behalf of other victims.

there should be an investigation by outside authorities. ( darya ) the santa cruz county sheriff's office have released a sketch of a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at jose avenue park wednesday. deputies say a woman in her 20's was jogging through the park just before 11 a-m when she stopped to use the restroom. she says a man followed her and pushed her into a stall and assaulted her. deputies believe the man is a transient in his late 20's or 30's. officials have increased patrols at the park. ( darya ) new this morning in the south bay... 7 people including 5 teenagers are under arrest for a robbery spree in santa clara county. the robberies took place over a 5 hour span in santa clara... san jose and campbell. a total of 5 people were robbed. 4 of the victims were injured... but the are expected to be okay. the attackers also assaulted a man who tried to fight back when they tried to rob him. police officer who shot a man in san francisco's aquatic parkwill not be identified unless he is charged with a crime. we first told you about this story earlier this week on the kron 4 morning news. this morning that man is still in critical condition. the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. police have not said what prompted the shooting tuesday night... but they did find a gun at the scene. and a second person was arrested for having a gun with a large capacity magazine. ( james ) happening today... an alameda county sheriff's deputy and a former deputy will be in court. sarah krause and stephen sarcos are charged with assault after being accused of mistreating inmates at the santa rita jail in dublin. today a judge could decide if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial. prosecutors say the deputies allowed an inmate to throw human waste at other inmates. two other deputies have also been charged but they are being prosecuted in a separate trial. ( darya )happening today... the man convicted of killing a mother and her daughter in a drunk driving crash in livermore will be sentenced.

prosecutors say brian jones lost control of his car when he crashed into an apartment complex back in 20-15. the crash killed esperanza morales and her 14 month old daughter ulidia. two other children were also hurt. jones' blood alcohol was at almost twice the legal limit at the time of the ( darya )no pesticides were found in san francisco's water system. this after concerns over the city's water quality in the sunset district. the san francisco public utilities commission ran several test to examine the water... but found nothing that threatened customers. earlier this month, some people said they noticed a change in taste and odor in their tap water... which led them to testing the water with at home testing kits. those kits allegedly detected pesticides in the water. seismologist about a new beta shake alert app that would be helpful to people in the bay area. earlier this month, bart announced that they are testing out a new beta version of the shake alert system. the system, which was designed by the usgs and the berkeley seismology lab, can provide several seconds of warning before an earquake hits, giving bart enough time to slow down or maybe even stop a moving train. bart is one of a handfull of agencies and businesses that are testing out the beta version. pg&e and the san francisco fire department are also on board. for now, shakealert is only available in a limited beta form, but the plan is to eventually give it to everyone. angela chung is a project scientist at the berkeley seismology lab. she says that the one day people could recieve earthquake alerts on their phones the same way that they get amber alerts.sotwe are sending alerts to our system. that part is done. the next step is for cell phone providers to send these alerts to the public.but while the system can now send out earthquake warnings, there is still a lot of work left to do to make the alerts accurate. the usgs and need to expand their network of earthqauke detecting sensors. that could cost

morning... officials have raised the death toll in the aftermath of hurricane michael. at least 35 people have died across florida, georgia, north carolina and virginia. 25 of those happened on the florida panhandle. michael hit the area last wednesday as a category 4 hurricane. it was the strongest storm to hit the continental u-s in more than a decade. ( james ) police in vacaville arrested a man in connection to arson at a wedding venue. it happened at the mission on the hill events center on east monte vista avenue sunday morning. police say a fire destroyed part of the inside of the events center... and caused heavy smoke damage in the rest of the building. police arrested 45-year-old terry smith after reviewing surveillance video and connecting him to the crime. ( darya ) a santa rosa man is recovering this morning after being shot in the hand during a pot deal at his home. police say the homeowner was meeting two men just

before midnight wednesday to sell them pot in the 12- hundred block of ludwig avenue. police say the shooters tried to rob the man... one of the men brandished a firearm. the two shooters fled the scene... police later found the shooters car abandoned on highway 116 near sebastopol. the homeowner was treated for his injuries. ( darya ) in the east bay... the berkeley city council has voted to mandate a meatless monday. one day a week vegan menus must be offered at city events and meetings. the resolution also calls for a public campaign to inform businesses and residents of the environmental impacts of meat production. there is no date on when meatless mondays will begin. ( darya ) also in the east bay... november's "first friday street festival" in oakland has been canceled... it's because of the violence that broke out in the festival that was held at the beginning of this month. the festival had been scheduled for november second... but organizers canceled the event after they say two people shot

at each other-- injuring three others... although the shooting happened three hours after the event had shut down and several blocks from the festival-- organizers say they are taking the incident very seriously... when they relaunch oakland first fridays they say they will have new security procedures in place. ( james ) the bart plaza in downtown berkeley reopened with a celebration. the 13 million dollar renovation project replaced the plaza's brick rotunda with a glass awning. this is video of some of the construction. you can see crews tearing down the old structure to build the new one. berkeley's mayor called the new plaza a more pedestrian friendly and welcoming environment. the transit hub includes stops for contra costa transit district buses as well as the bart stop that is below ground. the rennovation took more than a year to complete. ( darya ) also breaking over night news this morning... a u-s navy helicopter has crashed on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. this is file video of the air craft carrier. this happened off the coast of the philippines. several people were hurt. we do not know the extent of their injuries but they are believed to be non life threatening. ( darya ) this just in to the kron 4 newsroom.pictures show a deadly crash between two cars in rohnert park. you can see how mangled the cars are. it happened early this morning at the intersection of rohnert park expressway and country club drive. police say one of the cars was split into two pieces. investigators are still on scene. its unclear how many people died in this crash. ( darya ) a new report says there is ánoá data to support the claim that the hunters point naval shipyard is safe. (ááboxesáá) the report released by "the committee to bridge the gap" says most of the site was never tested for radioactivity. and they claim that many of the results from the areas that were tested were faked. the committee met with people who live at the former shipyard to show them the results of the report. bridge the gap plans to release three more reports in the coming weeks. the u-s navy has not commented on the reports. ( darya ) new this morning in the south bay... 7 people including 5 teenagers are under arrest for a robbery spree in santa clara county. the robberies took place over a 5 hour span in santa clara... san jose and campbell.

a total of 5 people were robbed. 4 of the victims were injured... but the are expected to be okay. the attackers also assaulted a man who tried to fight back tried to rob him. ( james ) a u-s park police officer who shot a man in san francisco's aquatic parkwill not be identified unless he is charged with a crime. we first told you about this story earlier this week on the kron 4 morning news. this morning that man is still in critical condition. the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. police have not said what prompted the shooting tuesday night... but they did find a gun at the scene. and a second person was arrested for having a gun with a large capacity magazine. ( james ) happening today... an alameda county sheriff's deputy and a former deputy will be in court. sarah krause and stephen sarcos are charged with assault after being accused of mistreating inmates at the santa rita jail in dublin. today a judge could decide if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial. prosecutors say the deputies allowed an inmate to throw human waste at other inmates.

( darya ) all residents who had to be evacuated after the vault fire in bay point have returned home. we brought you this story as breaking news yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... 4-thousand people were after a fire threatened an underground natural gas pipeline. chevron sent crews to the vault to look a the damage of the fire and look at repairs going forward. fire investigators are trying to determine what exactly started that fire. ( darya )no pesticides were found in san francisco's water system. this after concerns over the city's water quality in the sunset district. the san francisco public utilities commission ran several test to examine the water... but found nothing that threatened customers.

( darya ) the santa cruz county sheriff's office have released a sketch of a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at jose avenue park wednesday. deputies say deputies say a woman in her 20's was jogging through the park just before 11 a-m when she stopped to use the restroom. she says a man followed her and pushed her into a stall and assaulted her. deputies believe the man is a transient in his late 20's or 30's. officials have increased patrols at the park. ( james )happening today... the man convicted of killing a mother and her daughter in a drunk driving crash in livermore will be sentenced. prosecutors say brian jones lost control of his car when he crashed into an apartment complex back in 20-15. the crash killed esperanza morales

( james ) millions of people around the world practiced the basic earthquake safety skill of "drop, cover and hold on.". yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of the "great shakeout" earthquake drills. this is video from the governor's office of emergency services. you can see the kids practicing the drill at 10:18 in the morning. bart also participated in the drill ... and trains were slowed down. ( james ) and officials are rolling out "shake alerts" for california ... to help warn people of earthquakes ... before they can be felt. according to the berkeley seismologists and engineers who created the shake alert system ... when an earthquake begins, a variety of sensors placed across the state are instantly triggered. the quake's location is pinpointed and everyone in the shake area is sent alerts to their phone. but since earthquakes spread so fast ... some people will only have seconds to react to their alert.

story this morning... officials have raised the death toll in the aftermath of hurricane michael. at least 35 people have died across florida, georgia, north carolina and virginia. 25 of those happened on the florida panhandle. michael hit the area last wednesday as a category 4 hurricane. it was the strongest storm to hit the continental u-s in more than a decade. ( darya ) another big story we are following... more rain is expected in central texas --- where water levels are already dangerously high. the water level in a lake near austin --- are already so high that nearby buildings are barely visable.

( james ) new this morning... the petaluma fire department will be conducting controlled burns today on several small plots of grass in the ellis creek water recycling facility. officials say smoke will be visible around lakeville highway and schollenberger park throughout the day. the petaulma fire department is asking residents not to call 9-1-1 if they see smoke in the area. ( darya ) the berkeley city council voted to install new security cameras in san pablo park. the decision to add the cameras comes after a series of shootings in the park in the last few years. council members say the cameras will deter violence and make the park safer. but some neighbors say the cameras would give people the assumption that the park is not safe for families and that
