regulators are investigating exactly what caused a natural gas pipeline fire in contra costa county. this is new video from outside the underground vault where the flames ignited late wednesday night.. the fire took several hours to contain - and forced thousands of people in pittsburg and bay point out of their homes for more than 15 hours.(vicki) the pipleine involved is owned by chevron. kron4's terisa estacio has the very latest on the investigation. you can see where the fire made it's mark - the heat so intense, it blistered the top of this concrete vault. deep inside, the damaged natural gas pipeline, now shut down as

several different agencies investigate what happened out here...on friday, kron four news learned the california public utilities commission - who oversees pipelines dispatched a team from it's safety enforcement division to figure out what went wrong... and how to make sure it doesn't happen again as it put thousands of lives at risk. what is known... right now is this... on wednesday, right here, a small grass fire broke out, several feet away from the vault.... a pge spokesperson has said, a downed power line occurred because of birds. fire crews put out the fire, but then during mop up... fire officials say they notice smoke coming out of the vault... you can see in this infrared video from the pittsburg police department the fire raging underneath the fault. the temperature around 400 degrees. fire officials say they grew increasingly

concned because inside the vault was not one but two pipelines. a large scale evacuation was ordered. the fire died down and evenutally crews were able to snuf it out, and lift the evacuation order. besides state regulators examining the pipeline incident... chevron is looking into the matter. a chevron spokesperson sent us this statement quote: a team of chevron experts is investigating the cause of the incident and inspecting and testting the integrity of the pipeline. and contra costa fire protection district is also conducting their own examination. asst chief ems terence carey, contra costa fire protection district. we will look at everything... (grant)that was terisa estacio reporting.. chevron will keep the affected pipelines turned off until it is deemed safe to turn them back on. people's natural gas service in the are will not be interupted. (vicki) another big story tonight..after the san jose catholic diocese released a name of 15 clergy accused of child abuse.. we have reaction from an ex-priest who is on that list.kron4's haaziq madyun has the story. (pkg)the catholic diocese of san jose has released 15 names of priests with credible allegations of sexual abuse of children. the church says it attempted to make this list as accurate and complete as possible. the list includes the names of priests, the

allegations and the year the abuse allegedly occurred, the year it was reported to diocese of san jose, the current status of the priest, either permanently banned from the ministry, retired or no longer living and a history of their assignments. there is only one priest on the list with a report made in 2018, father phil sunseri. he has a previous report of abuse in 1987. he was permanently banned from the priesthood a year later. he currently lives in san jose. in a text message i asked him if he saw a recent report alledging that he massaged the backs of two high school boys? his response phil sunseri: "oh sorry yes i have. just acknowledged that the incidents happened over 30 years ago and i apologized to the young men who were over 15 and their families. was led to believe that was the end of it. felt blindsided yesterday but trying to move forward with the love, support and prayers of family and friends. next month in an effort to ensure more transparency the diocese of san jose is bringing in a former f.b.i. executive assistant director to lead an independent team to audit priests personnel files. church officials say the names of priests connected to any credible allegations of sexually abusing children will be added to the list...in san jose haaziq madyun kron4news

(grant) crews in the east bay have finished repair work on a water main that broke twice in two days. a water main in alameda that was repaired last night... broke again this morning. it burst at around 7:00 on high street near otis drive. officials with east bay mud say they discovered a second leak last night after the repairs were made...causing repairs were made...causing it to burst again. 19 customers were without water... but it has now been restored. (grant) a scare on a high school campus in daly city

today. there were reports of an armed person at jefferson high school.. just before students were released for the day. at around 3:00... police reported someone with a gun... and locked down the campus. about 35 minutes later, students were allowed to go home. police are still trying to determine if the reports were true. (vicki) developing tonight...saudi arabia has confirmed journalist jamal khashoggi is dead -- in a statement on saudi state t-v . according to the country's state run news - a talk between khashoggi and those who met him during his arrival at the saudi consulate in istanbul led to an argument and fight which led to his death. it was also announced the saudis have set up a commission to investigate. it will have one month to release a report. the saudi press agency has also said 18 saudi nationals have now been detained for investigation. honduran migrants is heading toward the u-s....and the president is threatening to stop them and shut down the border. washington correspondent alexandra limon reports humanitarian groups say preventing the migrants from seeking asylum, would be illegal. trt 1:29secretary of state mike pompeo went to mexico to meet with officials.they discussed the caravan of four thousand migrants traveling to the united states.mike pompeo / secretary of statewe are quickly reaching a point which appears to be a moment of crisis, record numbers of migrantsthe hondurans are fleeing because they fear for their lives and many say there is no work in their country. president trump threatened on twitter to stop aid to central american countries and asked mexico to stop the migrants mexico asked the united nations to set up a migrant processing center on mexico's southern border.the country hopes that will satisfy president trump - while ensuring mexico doesn't break any asylum laws. president trumpif that doesn't work out, we're calling up the military, not the guard, we're calling up the military. and we're going to have the military stationed, they're not coming into this country. melissa crow with the southern poverty law center says that isn't legal.melissa crow /

tonight... a truck slams into the great mall in milpitas... and police say it may have been intentional. kron 4's lydia pantazes explains what happened. it happened right here behind me.you can see just how dark it is, that's because the crash knocked out power to a

section of the mall.you can see pg&e trucks here working to restore power.the driver crashed into a high voltage transformer knocking out power to several stores. that also called oil to spill from the transformer. it happened between 1:30 and 2 this morning when a white toyota tacoma crashed into the transformer and a scissor or lift located right next to a burlington coat factory store. burlington coat factory and several other stores, between 10 & 15 stores have no power to the food court.we still don't know the cause of the crash or whether it was intentional.reporting live in milpitas, lydia pantazes kron4 news. (grant) five days after her parents were found shot to death, there is still no sign of 13=year=old jayme closs.the girl was apparently present at the apparently present at the home when her mother and father were shot to death at their home in rural wisconsin. tonight we know a little more about what deputies found at the scene.(vicki)and the surprising request from the

(ryan)the sheriff says he's never heard of a similar crime in barron, wisconsin... a farming community two hours by car from the bright lights of minneapolis.he says, nos is the time for its 35-hundred members to take a hard look at each other. one=hundred citizens volunteered to search the roadsides near the murder scene.the daylong effort yielded no clues, and sheriff chris fitzgerald says the effort won't be repeated. instead, he's asking residents to keep an eye on their neighbors.in a facebook post, he urged barron residents to watch out for abnormal behavior .. missing work or scheduled appointmens ... or leaving town without explanation.excessive alcohol and drug consumption is also suspect.so is anyone who pays too much or too little attention to the case...anyone acting anxious, nervous or irritable could be reported to the police.the sheriff's department also released dispatch tapes from the night

of the murder.they reveal that the original 9-1-1 call came from a cell phone belonging to jayme's mother.that when police arrived five minutes later, they found the front door broken in.no gun was found at the scene... and there was no sign of jayme. (vicki) a new study shows fitness is not only good for you, but it leads to longer life. in today's health minute, kim hutcherson explains how those with a sedentary lifestyle, are at a 500% higher chance of premature death than those who are extremely fit. so you don't smoke, stay away from junk food, and don't have any serious medical conditions. but are you exercising?that could be the most important factor in living a long and healthy life.the notion that a sedentary lifestyle is bad for you has been around for a while,spawning adaptions like standing desks and even treadmills at work stations in the office.but now, authors of a study published in the journal jama network open, found avoiding aerobic exercise and fitness is actually worse for you than

(grant) in the east bay... oakland police are searching for a man who they say shot at a police officer during a foot chase early this morning. it happened just after three a-m when an officer tried to detain a "suspicious person"... a chase ensued and the suspect turned around and fired a shot at the officer. the officer was not hit...and the officer did not shoot his gun. police recovered the man's gun but he took off and has not been caught. (grant) also in the east bay... november's first friday street festival in oakland has been canceled. officials say it's because of violence at the event earlier this month. the festival had been scheduled for november second... but organizers canceled the event after they

say two people shot at each other-- injuring three others... although the shooting happened three hours after the event had shut down and several blocks from the festival-- organizers say they are taking the incident very seriously... when they relaunch oakland first fridays they say they will have new security procedures in place. (vicki) in the south bay... 7 people including 5 teenagers are under arrest for a robbery spree in santa clara county. officer say the robberies took place over a 5 hour span in santa clara... san jose and campbell. a total of 5 people were robbed. 4 of the victims were injured... but the are expected to be okay. police say the attackers also assaulted a man who tried to fight back when they tried to rob him. (grant) in the north bay... while everyone else has been paying attention to mega millions one man in sebatsopol has been stealing scratchers. the sebastopol police department says this man went into several gas stations in sonoma county and has stolen hundreds of dollars worth of

where the flames ignited late wednesday night.. the fire took several hours to contain. (grant) good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm grant lodes.(catherine) and i'm catherine heenan...pam and ken are off tonight. the fire forced thousands of people in pittsburg and bay point out of their homes for more than 15 hours. kron4's terisa estacio has the latest on the investigation. tersia estacio: classes resumed at this school in pittsburg, and as life gets back to normal, we are getting a closer look at that vault where the fire took place and disrutped so many lives. you can see where the fire made it's mark - the heat so intense, it blistered the top of this concrete vault. deep inside, the damaged natural gas pipeline, now shut down as several different agencies investigate what happened out here...on friday, kron four news learned the california public utilities commission - who oversees pipelines dispatched a team from it's safety enforcement division to figure out what went wrong... and how to make sure it doesn't happen again as it put thousands of lives at risk. what is known... right now is this... on wednesday, right here, a small grass fire broke out, several feet away from the vault.... a pge spokesperson has said, a

downed power line occurred because of birds. fire crews put out the fire, but then during mop up... fire officials say they notice smoke coming out of the vault... you can see in this infrared video from the pittsburg police department the fire raging underneath the fault. the temperature around 400 degrees. fire officials say they grew increasingly concned because inside the vault was not one but two pipelines. a large scale evacuation was ordered. fortunately, the fire died down and evenutally crews were able to snuf it out, and lift the evacuation order. besides state regulators examining the pipeline incident... chevron is looking into the matter. a chevron spokesperson sent us this statement quote: a team of chevron experts is investigating the cause of the incident and inspecting and testting the integrity of the pipeline. and contra costa fire protection district is also conducting their own examination. (catherine) kron4's ryan o'donnell joins us with details on where the state is seeing the most growth.. ryan? it's not a huge drop from last month... but it's still going down, instead of up. california's unemployment rate fell to 4.1 precent in september... down from 4.2 percent... where it's been sitting for the past five months. the state saw the most growth in the business and 'professional services' sector, along with the 'leisure and hospitality' and government sector. california saw losses in the information sector, which includes telecommunications, data processing and movie recordings. the state also saw losses in healthcare and education. individuall counties show bay area unemployment even less. san francisco, san mateo and santa clara counties all have jobless rates less than 2.5 percent. the 'national' unemployment rate came in at 3.7 percent.
