overnight... a fire breaks out at a home in san jose and now investigators are calling it suspicious. this fir broke out around 1:00 this morning. you can see the heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building. firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes. nobody was injured. the cause of the fire is being investigated by san jose police department. ( robin ) new this morning --- two men are behind bars after robbing a t-mobile cell phone store in american canyon. the two men ... were arrested saturday night. this is a picture of what they stole. police also

recovered a gun. after robbing the store, the robbers made their way into pittsburg ... but police were able to chase them down and make the arrests. 20 year old lamar crawford and 23-year-old alexander briones were booked into napa county jail on a number of felony charges. ( robin ) it's been almost three months since 61-year-old rolando aquino áallegedlyá shot and killed his roommate. and police have still not been able to find him. kron4's michelle kingston spoke to the victim's wife ... who is begging for help. (mk)ácryingáit's hard every day for merlie gretler ... who's husband was shot and killed almost three months ago by one of their roommates -- rolando aquino ... who is ástill on the loose.merlie gretler, wife"i'm sad because the case of my husband has been forgotten."gretler says her husband, mark, would often complain about the roommate's

behavior and his dog ... but never thought it would escalate to this.aquino -- the suspect -- is 61 years old ... and took off after shooting gretler in july inside their pittsburg home.he was seen outside the san pablo casino and in san leandro just hours after the shooting ... but has not been seen since.todd gretler, brother"it just makes me angry that he hasn't been found yet. i never met the guy. never seen him, but i'm worried about him going out and killing somebody else. you just don't know. he's loose. he needs to be put away."and as the hours ... days and months now pass .. merlie is growing impatient ... and wants justice for her husband. merlie gretler, wife"everyody can say how good he is as a person, how you can depend on him with a lot of things. i can't say anything bad when it comes to

his character as a person. he loves to give, to share and i miss him so much. i really do." ( robin )( robin ) ( robin )still no answers on who shot kelsey quayle last week.kelsey quayle crashed her car into oncoming traffic while driving in an atlanta suburb.but when she was taken to the hospital, doctors noticed she had a bullet in her neck.quayle had only recently moved from california to georgia and, according to her family, didn't have any enemies.authorities are searching for clues, but right now surveillance video of the car crash is their best lead. quayle's sister says she may have been caught in the crossfire of a road rage incident. ( robin ) in the east bay...we now know the name of the man

killed when an amtrak train hit his car over the weekend. the crash happened on 50th avenue between coliseum way and san leandro street in oakland. the alameda county coroner's offfice says 46-year-old pablo mancia- guardado was on the tracks when the train headed north slammed into the car saturday morning. investigators are trying to determine if the victim ignored the lowered crossing gates and flashers. seventy one people were on the train at the time of the crash but no one else was hurt. ( robin ) a man is dead after he was hit by a car on u-s highway 101. it happened at nave drive in novato last night. authorities say the man was hit by a car headed north on the freeway just before 7. the driver stopped and investigators say that person is cooperating with california highway patrol. no one else was hurt. investigators say they are trying to determine why the pedestrian was walking in the traffic lanes. ( robin ) authorities say a

vehicle involvled in a hit and run may have been stolen. and video of the incident shows what both the driver and passengers did right after the impact. kron4's gayle long has more. just after two in the morning friday, an s-u-v slams into this vehicle in san francisco's excelsior district. surveillance video shows the driver veering right from mission street to persia into a parked vehicle, smashing the gate..moments later, you see one passenger stumbling out of the s-u-v, the next thing you see, another person jumps out and the driver gets out and they all run away..zhong luo (jung lou) owns the dragon house martial arts school on mission street, who caught it all on tape. that's where the driver ran over his garden, narrowly missing his gym,

the crash woke up residents..within the hour san francisco police showed up.. vehicles were eventually towed.. ( robin )the gym owner of the surveillance video is hoping these new images from the video you just saw will get help from the public,and lead to an arrest. ( robin ) police arrested two people for allegedly stealing mail and credit cards in the south bay. miliptas police arrested the two outside of the best western brookside inn hotel in milpitas. police say allan yap and hoi soo yang were sitting inside a car with drug paraphernalia in plain view. police tell us.. at first yap and yang gave the officer fake names... but after seaching the car... police found stolen mail... identification cards... and credit cards from people who live in milpitas, san jose, and los altos. both men

were booked into the santa clara county jail for warrants. (robin) happening tomorrow ... cal fire is conducting controlled burns in sonoma county. this will happen at the jenner headlands preserve near the coast. don't be alarmed if you see smoke along highway 116 in the duncan hills and cazadero area. the burn is scheduled to happen betwen 10 a.m. and 4 (robin) a school board member and county supervisor are announcing today plans for a new police substation staffed by bilingual officers that speak chinese and spanish on leland avenua in the vistacoin valley. resources for another bilingual substation onsan bruno avenue were sercured back in june. ( robin ) also new this morning --- coast guard crews were able to rescue 15 people after a fishing vessel caught fire near san diego. unfortunately three others are still missing. this is

footage from the coast guard helicopter as a rescuer is lowered down to the waters off the coast of coronado island. officials say by the time they got there -- the boat was engulfed in flames and smoke. ( robin )the coast guard airlifted two victims with severe burns to a san diego hospital. the other 13 survivors were transferred over to the mexican navy. ( robin ) it's been 150 years since the hayward fault erupted. emergency services took spent sunday educating the public on emergency plans for when the next crisis occurs. kron 4's alecia reid has details from the fremont community center. these families are experiencing a simulated 8- point-0 earthquake. it's been 150 years since the great quake on the hayward fault. and another one is due any day now. residents should be prepared.the last major earthquake that hit this fault line was larger than loma prietaand i think that's something people shold keep in mind. they say oh i lived through loma prieta it wasn;t that big a deal .... it wasn't as big as something that could hit here.on sunday, there were preparedness demos for children, and adults. including search and rescue teams, with a dog that picks

up a victim's scent ... and equipment used in emergencies. if we have to look for a victim, we look inside the camera in the hole and it moves back and forththe hayward fault line is currently the most populated in the world .... with 2 million people living and working ... and the highest bay area risk to erupt.you are literally right on the fault . evacuated so a bomb squad could make sure it was safe. kron 4's ella sogomonian has more. ten to 15 homes were evacuated on moonflower court in san jose when there was an explosion inside a garage around 3 in the afternoon sunday.two men burned their hands, face and parts of their torsos by fireworks they were handling inside.it happened in one of the two victim's father's home where he grew up. sot: taylor poppen, victim's girlfriend// "all i saw was the little red fireworks like for chinese new year."sot: ella// "are you surprised that fireworks that small could cause so much damage?"sot: taylor poppen, victim's girlfriend// "well i know when they take them apart and what not yeah. but i told him he shouldnt be doing that because its not smart."the two men were taken to valley medical center for non life threatening injuries sot: lt. steve lagorio, san jose police department//"dont play with them theyre dangerous when you get a lot of fireworks together and they explode the rest of them explode with them and its a lot bbigger bang that just the one fire cracker going off."a bomb squad found more fireworks and to avoid transporting them set them off in a yard. neighbors will be let back into their homes after the coast is cleared.tag

the lieutenant says its up to detectives to determine if the men involved could face criminal charges for illegally handling fireworks. ( robin ) on person was treated for smoke inhalation this weekend after a house fire --- but firefighters say it could have been ámuchá worse if it wasn't for the home's sprinkler system. the fire was reported in the home's garage saturday night in the university district subdivision in rohnert park it took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the fire. but as i said --- officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. ( robin )a college homecoming celebration in clemson, south carolina took a dangerous and scary turn this weekend. a floor collapsed during a clubhouse party--- injuring at least 30 people and it was all captured on cell phone video. kim hutcherson has a closer look and we warn you the video is graphic.

( robin ) an elk grove man is being hailed as a hero after rescuing three people from a burning car. jessica mensch has the story. in a quiet elk grove neighborhood, jeff garrett a

surprising wake-up call around 5:30 a.m."i just heard a loud bang," he told fox40. "i didn't know exactly what it was because i was sound asleep."so, he got out of bed, went into his backyard and looked over his fence to find out what was going on."i heard a gentleman coughing and it sounded like he was in distress," garrett recalled. "so, i looked over past some trees to the left and i saw the burning car. the engine compartment was already fully in flames."jeff garrett is being hailed as a hero after saving three people from a burning vehicle.a truck had run off of laguna boulevard and into a tree. without hesitation, garrett climbed over the fence and ran toward the burning car to help."i was a bit afraid of what i was going to see because it was clearly a bad accident. so, i wasn't sure what i was going to see when i opened the doors," garret said.the three people in the car were badly injured."i heard the gentleman in the driver's seat cry out in pain. he was in flames at that point. his left leg was in the fire," garrett said. garrett worked quickly to unbuckle the driver and two passengers and get them to safety."after that, i looked back and the whole cab was completely engulfed," garrett told fox40.the driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital, one with life- threatening injuries.police say, had garrett not been there, the three people in the

car likely would not have made it out alive. they say garrett is a hero.garrett's wife, jennifer, agrees."i'm really proud. not many people would have stepped up and done something like that," she said. "he doesn't hesitate to help people. he's a quick thinker."garrett said he is just thankful he was in the right place at the right time. ( lydia ) after the crash ... police showed up and the cars were ( james ) in the east bay...we now know the name of the man killed when an amtrak train hit his car over the weekend. the crash happened on 50th avenue between coliseum way and san leandro street in oakland. the alameda county coroner's offfice says 46-year-old pablo mancia-guardado was on the tracks when the train headed north slammed into the car saturday morning. investigators are trying to determine if the victim ignored the lowered crossing gates and flashers. seventy one people were on the train at the time of the crash but no one else was ( james ) a man is dead after he was hit by a car on highway 101 in the north bay. it happened at nave drive in novato last night. authorities say the man was hit by a car headed north on the freeway just before 7. the driver stopped and

investigators say that person is cooperating with california highway patrol. no one else was hurt. investigators say they are trying to determine why the pedestrian was walking in the traffic lanes. ( james ) also in the north bay ... two people were airlifted to the hospital after they were seriously hurt in a crash. it happened yesterday in sonoma ... near napa road and 8th street. its unclear how many cars were involved ... but the victims sustained major injuries. we know that one of the patients is a 51-year-old woman. ( lydia ) this morning we are hearing from the woman who's husband was shot and killed by his roommate. its been almost three months since merlie gretler's husband ,mark, died. she says he would often complain about the behavior of his roommate, 61- year old rolando aquino. aquino hasn't been seenince he was last spotted outside the san pablo casino in san leandro just hours after the shooting. as time moves forward, merlie says she is growing impatient ... and wants justice for her husband.

(lydia) hackers have targeted health-care-dot-gov. the government says sensitive and personal information of 75-thousand people has been compromised. the section of the website affected wasn't used by the general public, but by insurance agents to enroll their clients. the systems affected have been shut down, but there are not many details yet on exactly what personal information was accessed. ( james ) this morning ... we have new pictures of a recent whale rescue in santa cruz. we first told you about the rescue on the kron 4 morning news. the humpback was spotted last week in half moon bay from the air. crews from marine life

studies, southwest fisheries, the coast guard, and a local fishing boat all came to the animal's rescue. the whale was caught in an estimated 500 feet of fishing line -- crews chased the whale south for two days before finally freeing the humpback. ( james ) marine life studies says a new inflatable boat was key in getting close enough to free the whale. they bought the boat thanks to money raised during the "monterey gives" campaign last year. ( james ) coming up next... two men are now behind bars for stealing mail and credit cards.details on the bay area cities they targeted.

building. firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes. nobody was injured.coming up in the next hour ... will tran will have the latest details in a live report. ( james ) in the south bay, two men could face charges following an explosion at a home in san jose over the weekend. families inside nearly a dozen homes were forced to evacuate after police say two men set off fireworks inside a garage on moonflower court. it happened around 3 sunday afternoon. the men burned their hands, face, and parts of their torsos. they were taken to valley medical center and are expected to be ok.

after the incident. (lydia) on person was treated for smoke inhalation this weekend after a house fire --- but firefighters say it could have been ámuchá worse if it wasn't for the home's sprinkler system. the fire was reported in the home's garage saturday night in the university district subdivision in rohnert park it took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the fire. but as i said --- officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. ( james ) a strong hurricane is growing off the western coast of mexico. the national hurricane center says hurricane willa could impact portions of southwestern and west-central mexico beginning on tuesday. i'm joined now by john talk more about the conditions.

san jose police arrested a man accused of stealing a car with a child inside. this happened on story road and leeward drive in san jose. police say 30-year-old martin huerta was arrested for kidnapping, auto theft and obstructing an investigation. officials say the victim went into a convenience store and left his car running with a 5-year-old child inside ... huerta got into the car and drove away. when officers spotted the stolen vehicle huerta ran away. the child was not in the vehicle when officers arrived but was found a few minutes later. the child was uninjured and reunited with her father. (lydia) also in the south bay ... two men were arrested after being found with stolen mail and credits cards. they we're arrested outside of the best western brookside inn hotel in milpitas. it happened thursday night when an officer saw allan yap and hoi soo yang sitting inside a car with drug paraphernalia in plain view. at first yap and yang gave the officer fake names... but

after seaching the car ... police found stolen mail... identification cards ... and credit cards from people who live in milpitas, san jose, and los altos. both men were booked into the santa clara county jail. ( james ) take a look at this ... firefighters rescued a dog from a burning home in the east bay saturday night. it happened just before 8 o'clock in concord. in this video you can the house and car on fire ...it took firefighte about 20 minutes to put it out. there's no word if anyone was home at the time ... the cause is still under investigation. ( james ) the red cross is working with the 40 people who lost their homes during a fire in vallejo over the weekend. it happened just after midnight saturday on georgia street. the vallejo fire department tweeted this picture. firefighters say when they arrived their was smoke on the second and third floors. but everyone got out safely and no one was hurt. the cause of the

(lydia) kron4's will tran is live in front of the home with what we are learning about the fire this morning. san jose fire department crews are at the scene of a 1- alarm fire early this morning, according to fire dispatch. the blaze was first reported at 1 a.m. in the 3900 block of hamilton park drive in west san jose. i spoke to the homeowner who is traumatized and doesn't want to go on camerashe said she was asleep at the time when she heard noises. she said she saw her ex-boyfriend trying to break into her home. that's when she said she grabbed her two dogs and got out before the fire startedthe woman told me her ex-boyfriend's sister was

( james ) happening now...crews are looking for three people after a fishing vessel caught fire near san diego. a crew with the coast guard was able to rescue 15 other people just south of the coronado islands. by the time they arrived to the scene, authorties say the mexican fishing boat was engulfed in flames. ( james ) two victims were airlifted to a hospital...and the other 13 survivors were transferred over to the mexican navy. (lydia) on person was treated for smoke inhalation this weekend after a house

fire --- but firefighters say it could have been ámuchá worse if it wasn't for the home's sprinkler system. the fire was reported in the home's garage saturday night in the university district subdivision in rohnert park it took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the fire. but as i said --- officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. (lydia) state regulators are investigating the cause of that natural gas pipeline fire in contra costa county. it forced thousands of people in pittsburg and bay point out of their homes for more than 15 hours. kron4's terisa estacio has new video of the location where the fire started. you can see where the fire made it's mark - the heat so intense, it blistered the top of this concrete vault. deep inside, the damaged natural gas pipeline, now shut down as several different agencies investigate what happened out here...on friday, kron four news learned the california public utilities commission - who oversees pipelines

dispatched a team from it's safety enforcement division to figure out what went wrong... and how to make sure it doesn't happen again as it put thousands of lives at risk. what is known... right now is this... on wednesday, right here, a small grass fire broke out, several feet away from the vault.... a pge spokesperson has said, a downed power line occurred because of birds. fire crews put out the fire, but then during mop up... fire officials say they notice smoke coming out of the vault... you can see in this infrared video from the pittsburg police department the fire raging underneath the fault. the temperature around 400 degrees. fire officials say they grew increasingly concned because inside the vault was not one but two pipelines. a large scale evacuation was ordered. fortunately, the fire died down and evenutally crews were able to snuf it out, and lift the evacuation order. terisa
