overnight... a fire breaks out at a home in san jose and now investigators are calling it suspicious. this fir broke out around 1:00 this morning. you can see the heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building. firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes. nobody was injured. the cause of the fire is being investigated by san jose police department. killed when an amtrak train hit his car over the weekend. the crash happened on 50th avenue between coliseum way and san leandro street in oakland. the alameda county coroner's offfice says 46-year-old pablo mancia- guardado was on the tracks when the train headed north slammed into the car saturday morning. investigators are trying to determine if the victim ignored the lowered crossing gates and flashers. seventy one people were on the train at the time of the crash but no one else was hurt. ( robin ) a man is dead after he was hit by a car on u-s highway 101. it happened at nave drive in novato last night. authorities say the man was hit by a car headed north on the freeway just before 7. the driver stopped and investigators say that person is cooperating with california highway patrol. no one else was hurt. investigators say they are trying to determine why the pedestrian was walking in the traffic lanes. the crash woke up residents..within the hour san francisco police showed up.. vehicles were eventually towed.. the lieutenant says its up to detectives to determine if the men involved could face criminal charges for illegally handling fireworks. ( robin ) on person was treated for smoke inhalation this weekend after a house fire --- but firefighters say it could have been ámuchá worse if it wasn't for the home's sprinkler system. the fire was reported in the home's garage saturday night in the university district subdivision in rohnert park it took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the fire. but as i said --- officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. surprising wake-up call around 5:30 a.m."i just heard a loud bang," he told fox40. "i didn't know exactly what it was because i was sound asleep."so, he got out of bed, went into his backyard and looked over his fence to find out what was going on."i heard a gentleman coughing and it sounded like he was in distress," garrett recalled. "so, i looked over past some trees to the left and i saw the burning car. the engine compartment was already fully in flames."jeff garrett is being hailed as a hero after saving three people from a burning vehicle.a truck had run off of laguna boulevard and into a tree. without hesitation, garrett climbed over the fence and ran toward the burning car to help."i was a bit afraid of what i was going to see because it was clearly a bad accident. so, i wasn't sure what i was going to see when i opened the doors," garret said.the three people in the car were badly injured."i heard the gentleman in the driver's seat cry out in pain. he was in flames at that point. his left leg was in the fire," garrett said. garrett worked quickly to unbuckle the driver and two passengers and get them to safety."after that, i looked back and the whole cab was completely engulfed," garrett told fox40.the driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital, one with life- threatening injuries.police say, had garrett not been there, the three people in the

studies, southwest fisheries, the coast guard, and a local fishing boat all came to the animal's rescue. the whale was caught in an estimated 500 feet of fishing line -- crews chased the whale south for two days before finally freeing the humpback. (lydia) on person was treated for smoke inhalation this weekend after a house fire --- but firefighters say it could have been ámuchá worse if it wasn't for the home's sprinkler system. the fire was reported in the home's garage saturday night in the university district subdivision in rohnert park it took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the fire. but as i said --- officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. san jose police arrested a man accused of stealing a car with a child inside. this happened on story road and leeward drive in san jose. police say 30-year-old martin huerta was arrested for kidnapping, auto theft and obstructing an investigation. officials say the victim went into a convenience store and left his car running with a 5-year-old child inside ... huerta got into the car and drove away. when officers spotted the stolen vehicle huerta ran away. the child was not in the vehicle when officers arrived but was found a few minutes later. the child was uninjured and reunited with her father. (lydia) also in the south bay ... two men were arrested after being found with stolen mail and credits cards. they we're arrested outside of the best western brookside inn hotel in milpitas. it happened thursday night when an officer saw allan yap and hoi soo yang sitting inside a car with drug paraphernalia in plain view. at first yap and yang gave the officer fake names... but

( lydia ) the bepi- colombo spacecraft has a long journey ahead...it launched this weekend to explore mercury. it'll take seven years just to reach mercury... and it won't be easy. the spacecraft is designed to withstand the sun's temperatures and gravitational pull. as one of the solar system's least explored planets -- the flight's director says -- the knowledge they hope to gain is priceless. ( lydia ) when bepicolombo finally arrives in the year 2025 it will place two prob around the planet. those probes will roam mercury for a year before sending their findings back to earth. only two previous missions -- carried out by nasa --- have ever even reached the planet!

( james ) a piece of titanium from a satelitte in space landed in a walnut orchard near fresno. a farmer found the debris last week and called the king's county sheiff's office. they got in contact with the vandenberg air force base and found out it was a fuel tank from a communications satellite which had been in orbit for over a decade. . the satellite re-entering earth's atmosphere. fresno state astronomy professor frederick ringwald says this is a rare event. ( james ) happening now...crews are looking for three people after a fishing vessel caught fire near san diego. a crew with the coast guard was able to rescue 15 other people just south of the coronado islands. by the time they arrived to the scene, authorties say the mexican fishing boat was engulfed in flames. ( james ) two victims were airlifted to a hospital...and the other 13 survivors were transferred over to the mexican navy. fire --- but firefighters say it could have been ámuchá worse if it wasn't for the home's sprinkler system. the fire was reported in the home's garage saturday night in the university district subdivision in rohnert park it took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the fire. but as i said --- officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. (lydia) state regulators are investigating the cause of that natural gas pipeline fire in contra costa county. it forced thousands of people in pittsburg and bay point out of their homes for more than 15 hours. kron4's terisa estacio has new video of the location where the fire started. you can see where the fire made it's mark - the heat so intense, it blistered the top of this concrete vault. deep inside, the damaged natural gas pipeline, now shut down as several different agencies investigate what happened out here...on friday, kron four news learned the california public utilities commission - who oversees pipelines

dispatched a team from it's safety enforcement division to figure out what went wrong... and how to make sure it doesn't happen again as it put thousands of lives at risk. what is known... right now is this... on wednesday, right here, a small grass fire broke out, several feet away from the vault.... a pge spokesperson has said, a downed power line occurred because of birds. fire crews put out the fire, but then during mop up... fire officials say they notice smoke coming out of the vault... you can see in this infrared video from the pittsburg police department the fire raging underneath the fault. the temperature around 400 degrees. fire officials say they grew increasingly concned because inside the vault was not one but two pipelines. a large scale evacuation was ordered. fortunately, the fire died down and evenutally crews were able to snuf it out, and lift the evacuation order. terisa

( james ) now to bay area football. the niners had the odds stacked against them as they hosted the undefeated los angeles rams in santa clara. the game got off to a bad start from the get-go. quarterback c-j beatherd gets hit and fumbles the ball. the rams recover and that would lead to a field goal. the niners also fumbled in the second quarter ... leading to a rams touchdown after that. and the rams offense never took its foot off the gas. they blew out the niners 39-10. san francisco is now 1-6 and hit the road next week to take on arizona.
