(vicki) starting in the south bay... a fire breaks out at a home in san jose... and now investigators are calling it suspicious. the fire broke out around 1 o'clock this morning. you can see the heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building. firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes. nobody was injured. the cause is still under investigation. (vick) extra police officers were on all school campuses in morgan hill today after a threat circulated on social media. several parents and students reported the post on snapchat that they say threatened a school. the post included the initials "b-m-s"... which stands for britton middle school.

police say they do not believe this is a credible threat... and say the person who posted it has since shut down their snapchat account. (grant) in the east bay... a hawaiian airlines flight was diverted to the oakland airport... because of an engine issue. the flight headed for maui took off from san diego international airport just before 8:30 this morning. shortly after... a cockpit light warned there was a possible issue with an engine component required for flying over required for component required for flying over water. the plane landed in oakland without incident. 178 passengers were forced to deplane... and at last check the airline was still working to get them on another flight. (vicki) in the north bay.... two men are behind bars after robbing a t-mobile cell phone store in american canyon. this is a picture of what police say the two men stole. they were arrested on saturday night.. and officers say they also recovered a gun. police say the suspects made their way to pittsburg after the robbery... but officers were able to chase them down and make the arrests. 20 year old lamar crawford and 23-year-old alexander briones were booked into napa county jail on a number of felony charges. illness mostly affecting kids are now under investigation nationwide. the agency announced monday that 28-new cases of a-f-m emerged last week. so far, 62-cases of a-f-m have been confirmed in 22 states. a-f-m or 'acute flaccid myelitis' is a rare but serious condition. it affects the area of the spinal cord called gray matter and can cause paralysis. it's unknown why some patients fully recover. the average age of patients with the condition is just four-years old. almost all cases of a-f-m occur in children under 18-years old. (grant) a new study shows states that have legalized recreactional marijuana have seen an increase in car crashes. this new data comes just weeks before michigan and north dakota are set to vote to legalize recreational marijuana. our washington correspondent

jessica smith has the story. a new study links legal weed to a spike in car crashes.the insurance institute for highway safety looked at police reports and insurance claims in colorado, washington and oregon -- and found since legalizing recreational marijuana, crashes spiked as much as 6% compared to neighboring states. "there are road safety consequences"but cannabis attorney sarah gersten pointed to a 2017 study, that found no increase in áfatalá crashes after legalization. she says legal weed, means fewer drunk drivers on the road. "we're seeing a move to using cannabis, which compared to those other substances is much less impairing."this month, the national traffic safety board announced a wreck in texas that killed 13 people last year, was caused by a driver under the influence of marijuana and prescription drugs. the ntsb warned..."the rising tide of drug-impaired driving did not begin with this driver, and it will not end with him.""we need the medical research community and others to help us understand what it means to have thc in our system." there is no thc...and breathalyzers to test for it are just now being developed. marijuana activists argue legalization would speed up that process. terisa estacio has been tracking this story and joins us now with the details. terisa? .as you can imagine, this is a deeply disturbing case... kron four news obtained the police report and court documents that really spell out the crimes against the once respected catholic church priest (take pkg) this is hernan toro.... he is now facing 6 counts of lewdness with a minor involving two victims. the charges against him stretch over a 5 year period. both young girls under the age of 14. one was only reportedly 5 years old when she says toro a family friend - began to molest her. (in the first case, the victim says the abuse started when toro was babysitting and according to the statement to the officer, quote, as time went on... his hand moved closer and closer up her tigh... she described his hand as being shaky and jumpy and assumed it was because he was old. the victim went on to tell the officer, taht quote the victim told me that she and the suspect agreed not to tell anyone. as for the second victim, a similiar haunting tale, the victim 2 told police that whilte toro was babysitting her.. the suspect started with is hand on her thigh and moved it upward. and that when asked how it made her feel, she said it made her feel uncomfortable... when confronted about these charges

in this hit and run. it is described as a 2004 or 2006 red toyota sienna minivan. the front windshield and front fender are damaged. (grant) a lawsuit settlement between the victim of a traffic accident and the city of berkeley is forcing the public works department to come up with a plan to better maintain the trees and plants growing inside the many traffic circles that help keep cars from driving too fast in residential areas. kron4's maureen kelly reports that some neighbors who help maintain traffic circles aren't happy with what's been proposed so far. this tree growing in the middle of a russell street intersection is wrapped with a banner reading save our oak tree....it's one of many trees that might have been cut down....if not for community outrage. this stems from the 2 million dollar plus settlement that the city made with a woman who seriously hurt when

stuck in the crosswalk of stuart and ellsworth back in 2015. part of the agreement calls for the city to cut down most of the trees inside the traffic circles...or ensures they are maintained. the city's director of public works says that accident was an eyeopener. but there was a lot of push back from the community at the thought of cutting down the trees. .even if it would improve visability. i think would be a shame for them to cut them down because they bring a really good like out of you i just a good perspective of like nature of stuff you now?since 2012 the city has relied on volunteers to help maintain the trees and plants inside the circles.....but there is now talk of that being taken over by city workers, since concerns have been raised about residents trimming branches and picking up trash in the intersection. one longtime volunteer is not happy about the idea of giving up habitat he's cultivated. we're concerned about losing our public gardens you're also concerned about the city saying that they're gonna make something really beautiful but they don't have enough staff if you look at the rest of all of our parks and our public spaces they cut out come out once a year cut it all down (maureen) the public works director says one idea they're planning to put forward at tuesday nights meeting schedule is to set a schedule of neighborhood participation days that would allow that would allow the volunteers to

dash five body cameras from 16 commands across the city.in a statement a department spokesperson said 'nothing is more important than the safety of our officers and equipping the n-y-p-d with the best equipment is of paramount priority.all officers assigned l-e dash five cameras were instructed to immediately remove the cameras and bring them back to their commands.' the cause is believed to be a battery issue.this doesn't effect the older l-e dash four body cameras which are still in use.the department owns fifteen thousand five hundred body cameras.the n-y-p-d launched its body camera program in 20-17 and is on track to equip all 22-thousand patrol officers with cameras by the end of 20-19.the city's largest police union, the patrolmen's benevolent association, declined to comment on the incident but the use of body cameras has been a sensitive issue with the union through the years. the n-y-p-d moved to adopt body cameras after a manhattan federal judge ordered the department to test them as a way to curb stop-and-frisk searches of black and latino men that she ruled the police union which is fighting to block the public disclosure of encounters on police body
