119-unit affordable housing project for seniors... went up in flames near the west oakland bart station. nearly two years later, san francisco's mission bay development was the scene of a spectacular blaze. then in 2016, a 105-unit apartment project in emeryville suffered heavy damage. ... the fire went to six alarms. a few months later, a pre-dawn fire near lake merrtt... destroyed a 41-unit project that had been under construction for about a year and then in may of last year, the emeryville complex was hit again. ( robin ) meanwhile, further east in concord...a five story complex under construction on concord boulevard was torched this past april. officials blame arson -- the fire causing 55-million dollars in damage. construction on that site has since resumed. ( robin )also in san francisco.. we are learning about another crack discovered in a window at the troubled millennium tower.

this is the second window crack on the building which is already sinking and leaning . as kron 4's michelle kingston explains -- city leaders aren't happy .. aaron peskin, san francisco supervisor"how many isolated incidents are going to show that there is a pattern here?" supervisor aaron peskin concerned and disturbed after learning about a second cracked window on the millennium tower.he says it was discovered last friday during a visual inspection ... but no one reported it to the department of building inspection until yesterday.in the report, engineers say the window washing firm at the building has known about it for two years.aaron peskin, san francisco supervisor"we can't have broken glass windows, 12 13 stories above crowded sidewalks. it's not a good look."the report says engineers did not find any visual signs of distress ... but did fnid the damaged and cracked window -- it is currently taped on the exterior for security."you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize if a window fails and shards of glass are crashing from above, that's a dangerous situation and i mean, here we are, in this earthquake prone town,

last night we had high winds in san francisco.. this is a window system that is designed to withstand hurricane force winds and large seismic events so the fact that windows are continuing to fail on the fremont street side of the building really calls into question whether or not there are some structural forces having to do with the differential settlement, the sinking, the silting of the building, that may be at play here which they keep denying but this is number 2."just a few weeks ago, a crack was found in another window on the 36th floor.peskin says the city has ordered the millennium tower homeowners association to put out protective scaffolding to protect people walking on the sidewalks no later than friday afternoon.aaron peskin, san francisco supervisor"how about you guys implement the fix now and we can argue about who is going to pay for it later?" later?"going to pay for it later?"
