(vicki) new at five:a guilty verdict for a man

accused of killing his parents in san jose, bringing a two year old murder case to an end. (grant) kron4's ryan o'donnell joins us with more on why jurors voted the way they did. hasib bin golamrabbi... defended himself... and tried to pin the murders on his younger brother. he even took the stand... but didn't believe his account of what happened. he was motionless when the verdict was read in court this morning. the jury found golamrabbi guilty of two counts of murder, two enhancements for using a firearm and two special circumstance of lying in wait. golamrabbi shot his dad 13 times... and then shot his mom once in the back of the head after an argument in the famly's evergreen garage. he and his 17-year old brother were initially charged with murder, but the charges were later dropped for the 17-year old. golamrabbi spent a lot of his defense trying to blame the killings on his 17-year old brother... calling him a mastermind. the 17-year old testifying, saying his dad and brother faught a lot about his education, having a job

and the rules of the house... and heard the gunshots. golamrabbi will find out his punishment on november 16th. he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. (grant) developing tonight: investigators believe at least some of the suspicious packages targetting several prominent democratic figures this week... may have been sent from florida.(vicki) officials are scrambling to find any additional clues that could lead them to a suspect. reporter karin caifa is in new york with the latest.

showed me how they could get a call about a possible pipe bomb in a piece of luggae. alameda county bomb techician mike norton explained they would usually xray the luggage and then detonate it to effectively and safety mitigate the risk. mike norton, alameda county bomb squad "so here, we have luggage.. and we will render it safe." the team is constantly on call for risky situations here in the bay area... they train tirelessly to downgrade potentially hazardous situations.. besides detonting items like luggage... they have special devices to handle nuclear, biologial and checimal threats. here at the training facility, terisa estacio kron four news. ###

(vicki) new at five - the a-t-f's national response team has arrived in oakland -- to help try and figure out what sparked a fire at a construction site. the fire broke out tuesday at an under-construction townhouse complex on west grand avenue near myrtle street. investigators have called the fire suspicious - and are asking anyone with information to come forward. the fire is just one of several that have destroyed under- construction housing in the bay area in the past few years. (grant) another big story tonight:two people have died while visiting a popular overlook at yosemite. a man and woman fell from taft point - which has an elevation of a 75-hundred feet. there is no word on what may have caused the two to fall. last month an israeli teenager visiting the park fell hundreds of feet to his death while hiking near the top of nevada fall...that's 600 feet up. the death was ruled an accident..his mom told a news outlet in iseael her son fell while trying to take a selfie. tonight:there were ten flu related deaths during last year's flu season in contra costa county. there were only four deaths from the flu in the county the year before. a new c-d-c report shows deaths from the flu were up across the u.s. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story (pkg)the 2017-2018 flu season here in the u.s. was a deadly one. that is according to a new report from the center of disease control and prevention. the same report shows fewer people got flu shots last year...a direct connection?sotcontra costa county health officer, dr. chris farintano says the number of flu related deaths last year is alarmingsot fifty six thousand flu related deaths was the previous high number dating back thirty

coverage of the serial bomber - targeting democrats and prominent critics of president trump. those dangerous packages have many across the country on high alert.(vicki) the ripple effect has reached the bay area. kron four's philippe djegal reports on the security impact to the bay area commute. (philippe) in light of the discovery of what appear to be explosive devices being sent to prominent political leaders and a news agency... bart making police officers and k-9's more visible... increasing security at stations throughout the system... especially in downtown san francisco... where k-9's actively searched and sniffed trains and platforms.shontise nicole/bart rider- "i rode bart home after my shift and i was scared to death. it was so packed and crowded and i was really really scared. but i was unaware of what happened until i actually got on bart, and i was shaken." bart says while there have been no specific threats made against the system... it's important they boost the presence of officers should an incident unexpectedly breakout. cathie byington/bart rider-

"i'm not really afraid. i kind of stay in passenger car that i feel pretty safe at, and i have not had a problem." not much out of the ordinary at the north concord martinez bart station. passengers saw officers there during the morning commute. but it was mostly quiet in the late morning and early afternoon. dean carrico/bart rider- "(philippe) did you hesitate to ride bart today in light of what happened? (grant/on cam) (grant/on cam)the city of san jose has announced a unique program to deal with the growing, unsightly problem of litter and trash in the streets, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the city is going to put homeless people to work... picking it up. the city of san jose has identified some 40 trash "hot spots" like this one thatwill soon be cleaned up by people like these. homeless people, 25 of whom will be hired by the city to pick up litter as part of the beautify san jose program. the parnership between the city, downtown streets team and goodwill industries announced thursday by mayor sam liccardo.sam liccardo/san jose mayor "...this is a way for us to accomplish two very important goals, we need to beautify our streets and we ned to help

california department of public health is warning people about decorative contact lenses ahead of halloween. saying wearing these lenses without consulting an eye doctor can cause serious injury. the decorative lenses are intended to change the appearance of your eyes but do not work to correct vision. the risks include infection... ulcers... redness or cuts and scratches to the surface of the eye. and in severe cases blindness can occur. (grant) starting in the east bay.. where there was increased security on a school campus today... after a threat was made. kron 4's will tran reports from freedom high school in oakley. another day of heavy police presence at freedom high school two days after someone posted on snapchat that they would carry out a columbine style shooting.the officers

showed up before school and will remain there throughout the day to ease everyone's fear.for this parent. it's still not enough for him to keep his kids in school (anthony angulo/parent-my kids are here to pick up their work so we can leave for the day. but yes, i won't take any chances because the threat is real)freedom high school's principal emailed the parents and students on tuesday and again on wednesday letting them know about the threat and that they are working with the police department.on wednesday reportedly 1400 students stayed home because of the threat made by someone calling themselves "kevin jones."those who did show up had a hard time concentrating (student-it's scary for sure. we kept thinking about parkland)(student-the teachers didn't give much because we were all worried)police are not sure if the threat was made by a fellow student or someone from the outside.(will tran/oakley-oakley police say they won't be have police presence here for the indefinite future but definitely for days and maybe weeks ahead because they know people are still scared. they have also asked the fbi to help with their investigation. in oakley will tran kron4

news) (vicki) happening now in the south bay... san jose police are looking for a man who exposed himself multiple times near a park. kron 4's sara stinson has the details. san jose police are looking for a man who approached victims walking near parkview park and exposed himself...this happened in the neighborhood near park view elementary school making parents extremely nervous. take a look at this map you can see where the park is located.police say the man drove on the side of the road, engaged with the victims in coversation, asking them for directions - then he would expose himself and drive away. this first happened during the late afternoon hours on

south bay.. a man turns himself in for starting a fire at the home of his ex- girlfriend in san jose. that fire was set at a home on the 39-hundred block of hamilton park drive early monday morning. police say richard castillo was upset at his ex ... and started the fire. no one was injured but the homeowner was displaced. castillo was booked into county jail on arson charges. (grant) a north bay mother says a case of bullying at her son's middle school is being ignored by school administrators. the woman from santa rosa says her son gets bullied at lawrence cook middle school. and she says school officials have yet to punish anyone. for her son's safety we are not showing the 11 year old. he is african american and his brother says he thinks race is why he is being bullied:

there... it's going to cost you more for those little hershey's chocolate kisses... the popular candy company says it is planning to raise the price of it's products... but not to all of them... only a fifth of its products. no word on which products will see the increase. hershey says the prices will go up about two and a half percent. hershey is one of many companies getting squeezed by rising commodity and shipping costs. it hopes higher prices will offset those costs without scaring away customers. the changes will go into effect next year. murders with enhancements for using a firearm and lying in wait when he fattaly shot his mom and dad two years ago at their evergreen home. his dad shot 13 times in the garage... his mom once in the back of the head. golamrabbi spent a lot of his defense trying to blame the killings on his 17-year old brother... calling him a mastermind. he was initially charged with second degree murder, but those charges were dropped. the 17-year old testifying, saying his dad and brother faught a lot about his education, having a job and the rules of the house... and heard the gunshots. golamrabbi will find out his punishment on november 16th. he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. (pam) another big story tonight:two people have died while visiting a popular overlook at yosemite national park. a man and woman fell from taft point - which has an elevation of a 75-hundred feet. there is no word on what may have caused the two to fall.

between daly city and warm springs like d.bailey have been patiently waiting to ride the new model..the new cars on the tracks have updated bicycle racks...bright blue and lime green seats...and three doors on each side for quicker passenger boarding... the u-s-g-s has released the first update in more than a decade .... to its volcano threat assesment list .. and three spots in california are considered to be a "very high threat." those three volcanos are mount shasta -- which is in siskiyou county. the lassen volcanic center in shasta county. and the long valley caldera -- including the mammoth lakes area -- in mono county. california has seen about 10- eruptions over the last thousand years. officials say, the odds of a major volcanic event in california are about the same as a major earthquake occuring on the san andreas fault.
