fatima during filming and we stayed in touch. >> the "top chef" host rallied behind the season 15 fan favorite as she began treatment. earlier this year the 29-year-old was declared cancer free, only to find out in september the rare form of cancer had returned. >> we were all stumped because how can the cancer come back in two months? like i had clear scans. i was almost there at the finish line and now i was getting yanked back. when my doctor said that it is probably about a year without treatment, in my head i just knew i had to make this year count. >> fatima shared the devastating news with her fans in an article. >> honestly being a chef, i'm so used to being in control of everything and all of a sudden i have no control over anything in my life. so this was a way for me to actually kind of take back a little bit of control for myself. >> fatima says she plans to make the most of her situation and is

making reservations at some of the world's best restaurants and spending time with loved ones. >> she will make the best of it as she always does. >> she's been amazing. she really has. she keeps sending me food all the time, whether i can eat it or not. she is always sending me food. >> i just actually took a pie to her this morning because she loves apple pie. >> her apple pie was really delicious. >> she's an extraordinary young woman. she's very brave. she's very funny. my job is just to be there for her. >> fight the fight fatima. she's not slowing down. she recently saw "hamilton" on broadway and got to go backstage, meet the cast and got some autographs too. we love it. keep going. we'll be right back.
