himself inside a home in antioch. police got a domestic dispute call around 8 last night on deerfield road. when an officer arrived, the suspect came out with a weapon and shot the officer. that officer was taken to the hospital, treated for his injuries and released. meanwhile, the suspect baricaded himself in the home, and had at least one family member inside with him. police say 8 to 10 homes in the area were evacuated out of safety concerns. the standoff eventually ended around 2 this morning. ( robin ) it's election day. polls are already open on the east coast and in the central u-s. and there is just under three hours to go until polls open here in the bay area. voter turnout is not only expected to pass the numbers we saw in 2014 but it could be a record turnout. and because of that, city officials are saying if you plan on voting at san francisco city hall, the

earlier you get there the better. because lines will only get longer as the day continues. kron4's j-r stone has more on what voters need to know before polls. if you think this looks busy....just wait until election day which is now just hours away. here at san francisco city hall three hundred workers will be tallying ballots and voters will be making choices. if you're one of those voters...be prepared. sot well i did some...well i'm not going to lie i didn't do much research so i def had to read through all the pamphlet and the information so it took me quite a while and as you can see i'm pretty much the last one.the ballot consists of 4 different sheets that are double sided...so 8 pages worth of decisions. while the governor's race may be the talk of the state. the issues are the talk of early voters in san francisco.sotsome say they are inspired this year.sot many in the democratic stronghold of san francisco

politics- show newsom has a 20 point lead over republican john cox. ( robin ) speaking of john cox --- he brought his bus tour to berkeley monday. he came to talk about the lack of affordable housing with the owner of platinum auto collision and paint. some of the owner's employees commute all the way from the central valley to berkeley... simply because the rent is just too high in the bay. ( robin ) cox says he builds and manages apartments in the state of indiana at a much lower cost and aims to lower the price of building affordable housing in california if he is elected governor ( robin ) san francisco has seen strong early voting

activity so far -- which as we mentioned, may lead to the highest voter turnout during a mid-term election in the californsenior u.s. senator dianne feinstein cast her ballot at a collection tent in front of san francisco's city hall. the incumbent is maintaining a healthly lead in the most recent polls against her opponent- democratic california state senator kevin de leon. senator feinstein says, whatever your party affilation .... getting out and excercising the right to vote is paramount. ( robin ) the city's department of elections says, it has seen 24% of either il ballots .. or hit the polls early . the office says.. that is a

fairly strong turnout for a midterm election. bin ) all this demonstrates that this has been a midterm year like none other -- from a very active, very vocal president, to a record number of women on the ballot, and unexpected events that keep changing the game for both parties. election day is today and president trump taking on the mid-terms -- with a final blitz of 11 -rallies in six- days. with 35 senate seats on the ballot -- democrats need a net gain of two, a goal that became more politically complex, after the supreme court confirmation battle over brett kavanaugh. that energized both democratic and republican voters. but republicans also face the headwinds that come with a president with approval ratings below 50 percent -- and whbrash america first rhetoric may alienate moderatem republicans, women and independents

the toll to 101. ( robin ) sausalito police are notifying boat owners that are anchored for more than 72 hours that they have to leave or the boats will be impounded. kron 4's ella sogomonian has more. on monday sautalito police

posted notices warning the owners of 61 vessles they may be towed in violation of the rule.that because a boat cannot be anchored in city water for more than 72 hours according to a sausalito ordinance.police say the illegally anchored boats are neglected and in danger of falling apart and causing environmental problems.plus boat owners parked at a nearby harbor say they've noticed waste isn't being safely disposed of.the number of squatters out on the water has doubled over the last year amid a housing crisis in the san francisco bay area.since then locals say crime has gone up with the added ilegally anchored boats.they add that regulation has been a tough years-long battlesot: dock worker// "its going to be tough i mean they can they can 100 yards down the so itll be a cat and mouse thing."on friday 6 boats were towed from

daughter to the restroom... that's when left with her one- year old son. as the social worker was serching for the one- year old, the 11- year old also disappeared. is currently in jail in colorado ... facing felony charges of kidnapping and child endangerment. year a handful of counties in the state are using a new election model to try to makmor convenient. capitol bureau reporter ashley za-va'-la explains... the "voters choice act" and how it is working out for some counties so far.. (nats--)voting centers in sacramento were bustling monday...but not with voters filling out ballots. (stephen doris - poll inspector) "today we probably did more people within the first hour than we did saturday or sunday" with pink envelopes in hand... the majority of those people dropped off their already casted ballots.sacramento along with san mateo, madera, nevada and napa counties participate in the voters choice act. in advance of the election, each registered voter in those counties got a ballot in the mail and had access to dozens of drop boxes and early voting centers sprinkled throughout the city.

( robin ) facebook has taken down a network of facebook and instagram pages just hours before the polls open today. law enforcement tipped the company about the pages that could be linked to foreign entities. facebook says it removed 30 facebook accounts and 85 instagram accounts. almost all of the facebook pages linked to the accounts were written in french or russian... while the instagram pages were mostly in english. ( robin ) a developing ( robin ) a developing story today... cesar sayoc, the man charged with sending more than a dozen mail bombs to high profile democrats is scheduled to appear in court tuesday. sayoc was transferred last friday from florida to new york to face five federal charges including interstate transportation of an explosive

area dorm-style communal living that allows people to cut their rent in half. kron 4's gabe slate met with the c=e=o who is behind two new large developments going up ... one in san jose.. and one in san francisco. when they are done they will offer more than 1,000 low- cost units. sound from jon dishotsky, starcity ceo"our mission is to help people stay in inner city housing who can't afford it" jon dishotsky is ceo of starcity, a startup bringing communal style housing to the bay area as a way to offer cheaper rent. it's a like a dorm you get a private locked room with a tv, a mini, fridge then the common areas the kitchen and bathrooms. the rent is cheaper in san francisco.. instead of $3,800 a month for a small apartment, you would do this communal living for around 2,000. each home is furnished, all the bills are included, with fast wifi, there is someone who lives in

( robin ) after the shocking video came out showing a music teacher punching a student in the face at an l-a classroom.. students are now speaking out in support of the teacher. 64-year-old marston riley has been identifithe teacher that punched a 14-year-old student. riley is a teacher at maywood academy high school. many students are siding with mr. riley.. wanting to know if he is okay.

( robin ) for your health this morning... skin cancer deaths are rising among men -- but not women. that's according to new global analysis presented at the 20-18 cancer conference in glasgow, scotland. the study found that over the last three decades, male deaths from mela-noma were higher than female deaths in 33 countries in europe, north america, rates among women have stabilized or decreased. dr. dorothy yang says the sugge as likely to protect themselves from the sun as women. ( robin ) parents disciplining their children should avoid that's according to a new policy statement from the american academy of pediatrics. among the methods not advised: spanking, slapping, insulting

( james ) breaking overnight.. a police officer was taken to the hospital overnight after being assaulted by a man in antioch. ( darya ) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live on the scene with the details. lydia? police in antioch are on the scene of a standoff with a person who allegedly assaulted an officer. officers responded to call around 8 last night at a home on deerfield drive about a domestic dispute. officials say the man brandished a weapon and assaulted the officer then barricaded himself inside the home. the officehe hospita and has been treated and released. eight to ten homes in the area of deerfield road have been evacuated as a precaution.

( darya ) in the north bay... a man is in custody after the deadly shooting at a rehab facility in marin county yesterday morning. police identified the shooter as davance lamar reed. reed was arrested early yesterday morning following a un-related pursuit with police. reed was weaving in and out of traffic on 101 in sonoma county. he was arrested for evading police. while reed was in custody... police learned that he was connected to the shooting at the helen vine currently at the sonoma county jail and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning. the sheriff's office has identifed the two shooting victims who are in the hospital as 32-anthony mansapit an employee at the recovery center and 30- year-old brittney

( james ) a big story this morning... the mother who kidnapped her two kids from san jose has been arrested. diana moreira and her two kids were found in colorado near colorado springs. on friday moreira was on a supervised visit with her two kids and a social worker when she allegedly took off with them. moreira is currently in jail in colorado facing felony charges of kidnapping and child endangerment. ( james ) we have new details this morning about the victim of the police shooting in danville over the weekend. neighbors say laudemer arboleda was quiet but his behavior was bizarre and police were called to his residence several times. they say they would see arboleda spraying vinegar on plants and lining the sidewalks with salt. they say he glued the locks on some neighbors' doors and would peek into their windows. the jail. deputies say up to five inmates were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. it happend around 10 monday morning in the common area inside a special housing unit separate from the general population. deputies say the inmate started two small fires and the jail's sprinkler system was able to put it out. inmates in the unit were taken to other parts of the jail. ( darya ) investigators believe two inmates on death row in san quinton committed suicide. urdiales was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine security check friday night. he was being housed in the adjustment center, known for hard core, difficult to handle inmates. just last month urdiales was sentenced after being convicted of killing five women while stationed at various marine corps facilities in southern california. the 54 year old was already serving multiple life sentences for 3 previous murders. at his sentencing ..one of the

( james ) we have new details this morning about the victim of the police shooting in danville over the weekend. neighbors say laudemer arboleda was quiet but his behavior was bizarre and police were called to his residence several times.

( james ) the search is on for five siblings in stockton ... who ran away from their temporary foster home and haven't been seen for days. stockton police say these siblings were last seen over the weekend. officials say the children took most of their belongings with them.the youngest is just four years old. the oldest, 16.due to their age, their disappearance is a major concern. ( darya ) happening today.. the man accused of sending mail bombs to some high-profile democrats is set to appear in court. cesar sayoc faces five federal charges including interstate transportation of an explosive and illegal mailing of explosives. authorities say sayoc mailed at least 16 packages. among those targeted, former president barack obama, former secretary of state hillary clinton and c- n-n. if convicted the 56-year-old could be sent to prison for up to 48-years. none of the bombs detonated and there were no related injuries. andrew urdiales was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine security check friday night. just last month urdiales was sentenced after being convicted of killing five women in southern california. another death row inmate ... virendra govin was found unresponsive in his cell sunday night. officials say there is no indication their deaths are related. 25 inmates have committed suicide since california reinstated capital punishment in 1978. ( james ) sausalito police are reminding boat owners that boats anchored in city water for more than 72 hours will be impounded. it's part of a crackdown to uphold the 72 hour rule ... so far 6 boats have been impounded. police say the illegally anchored boats are neglected and in danger of falling apart and causing environmental problems. plus boat owners parked at a nearby harbor say they've noticed waste isn't being safely disposed of. they say the regulation has been tough to battle. boat owners who want to stay out on the water for a longer period time will have to pay.

( james ) the sonoma county sheriff's office says an inmate used soap to start a fire inside a housing unit at the jail. deputies say up to five inmates were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. it happend around 10 monday morning in the common area inside a special housing unit separate from the general population. deputies say the inmate started two small fires and the jail's sprinkler system was able to put it out. inmates in the unit were taken to other parts of the jail. ( darya ) we're learning more about the firefighter who died in orange county after he was hit by a driver while bicycling over the weekend. captain mike kreza passed away early yesterday morning from his injuries. the driver was arrested on felony d-u-i charges and is being held on one-hundred-thousand- dollars bail. kreza was an 18-year veteran of the costa mesa fire and rescue department. he leaves behind a wife and three children.
