(grant)(grant) willie mccovey, one of the san francisco giants greatest players, was honored today with a celebration of his life at at&t park.(vicki) kron4's maureen kelly was there as number 44 was honored for how he was on and off the field. nats its going going gone for willie mccoveysome of the legendary slugger's greatest hits were played on the jumbotron at at&t park...where hundreds of giants fans turned out to say goodbye to the much beloved player. many wearing replicas of his jersey....those i talked to explained what he meant to them and to the team. spirit, joy wanted to come to the ball park even though it was candle stick and windy just someone to come watch and play a game and who enjoy playing the game and made us enjoy it to just an awesome presents he has just such a good way about them just a gentle giant really he was from his early days of fan favorite and i think that

(live)right the city of thousand oaks...as well as a number of faith leaders..are inviting everyone...to come here to mourn the people who died last night.the first victim we found out about today...sergeant ron helus... has many here in town sad he's gone...but grateful for what he did.(pkg)(nats: "officer down...at the borderline.") sarah silikula knew something was wrong...when she didn't hear music blasting from the borderline.then one of her daughters called her...telling her to stay inside...because of a shooter. "i said where and they said at borderline, i said wait a minute, how do you know? are you there? they said didn't go friend's there and she's locked in the bathroom hiding." as the hours went on... silikula learned a dozen lost their lives.the one that devastated her most? sergeant ron helus.a 29-year veteran with the ventura county sheriff's.one of the responding officers...he was shot once he got inside.

"they saved lives, those kids, those bullets would've been in some of those kids."fellow sergeant, julie novak, says it's the kind of person sergeant helus was.she adds he was always helping on other calls...being the sergeant...everyone else wanted to be."ron was just always the first to everything. and unfortunately tonight, he was the first and he did what he was supposed to do. and he ran into...the gunfire and...he did was he was supposed to do and he's a hero in my book." workers have been fired from their jobs and face charges connected to a daycare fight club.(grant) chris hayes has more on what the women told police in their defense. december 7, 2016 at 11:30 p.m., st. louis police brought in tena dailey in handcuffs. she's the woman seen jumping up and down during the fights. she was subdued in her police interview.tena dailey/accused daycare worker: "he was crying and we were trying to comfort him and we were trying to cheer him on."she says she never thought it was wrong until it was all over.tena dailey/accused daycare worker: "it was all fun and games, you know, and i'm sorry like for them to, you know, to think that i'd hurt a kid. i wouldn't hurt a kid. my kid was in there too."a week later, december 15 at 1:30 p.m., police interviewed mickala guliford. she was the one you could see saying something to a crying child and then preparing preschoolers for the next fight.mickala guliford/accused

daycare worker: "i probably should get a lawyer."guliford called relatives to say she was not going to talk to police but then said this. mickala guliford/accused daycare worker: "there was nothing dangerous for the kids. it was all a safe stress relief like it could have been avoided if she would have closed the center."she was referring to the fact the daycare's heater was broken and the teachers had to use an alternate room without the usual supplies and activities. some of the kids appeared to recognize the fight club was wrong... like one child who tried breaking up a fight. and a 10-year-old in the next room who texted his mom this-- the daycare is making my brother's class fight and he's crying. nicole merseal/mother: "i am so very thankful that my 10-year-old realized that it was wrong."nicole merseal said she's been fighting for criminal charges since that day in december 2016.nicole merseal/mother: "it makes me happy. that's exactly what we was hoping. that's the reason why we brought this to the media. we was wanting them to take a second look at this because i don't feel like there was any punishment." (ken) today a federal appeals court in san francisco upheld a ruling protecting the deferred action for childhood arrivals program, or "daca." the ninth circuit court of appeals agreed with a lower court's ruling preventing the trump administration from ending daca. the ruling means the nationwide injunction that allows the program to continue will remain in effect. daca protects young undocumented immigrants who came to the u-s as children from deportation.
