developing news tonight... the last thing we need here in the bay area is more smoke but a new fire broke out this afternoon. this one in the santa cruz mountains. as kron for's rob fladeboe reports now, firefighters have gained the upper hand on a wildfire near boulder creek. rob fladeboe/boulder creek "...i'm here on redhawk canyon road outside boulder creek where firefighters are mopping up afre a fire that went to roughly 15 acres, it's birning in heavy timer up on that ridge behind me. there have been a number of choppers workng this fire as well as a coupleof the larger air tankers dropping retardant. what's really been helping firefighters is the lack of wind. some homes were threatened and there were some volunrary evacuations. i spoke with a couple of homeowners.adrienne gaughan/resident "...i was working in scotts valley when i got a call from my boyfriend who said you bette rget home, there's a fire..."will clair/resident "....yeah, we were a little concerned, wasn't really expecting something this close, especiallynow..."one structure

home. d-n-a tests are being conducted... but her son says he has no reason to doubt that those remains belong to anyone else other than her. he says the loss of his mom is very hard, but he takes comfort in the fact that he no longer has to wonder what happened to her. (grant) as of the last update... 631 people are missing in butte county. authorities are hopeful that some of those people may be in shelters - and are just not in contact with friends or family members. so they are asking people to take a look at the list... and tell them if someone on the list is accounted for.. we have that list on kron-4 dot com. sharply in the wake of the butte county fire.la and 40 cents a share.. that's up more than six dollars from yesterday... but still only about half of what it was a week. it comes after california regulators hinted they would not let the company go bankrupt if it is found liable for the camp fire. the utility is being sued by homeowners who claim a high voltage transmission line failed, sparking the fire. no official cause of the fire has yet been determined. (grant) still ahead... with all the smoke in the air, people are not the only ones who need to limit their time outside. what you need to do to protect your pets. (vicki) the smoke from the camp fire isn't just affecting people in the bay area... pets can also experience serious health problems from the smoke. we spoke to veterinarians who say animals are prone to secondary smoke inhalation and lung cancer. they recommended people with dogs to only take short walks during either the morning or the evening when there is more moisture in the air. they also recommend no extra exercise.. so no frisbee.. and no playing ball with your dog. there are specialty pet masks... but the vet says they are not easy to find don't often stay on right. senior center in alameda... as masks were handed out, which have become hard to come by as the unhealthl air quality continues to linger over the bay area. kron4's maureen kelly reports that those masks were donated by a local businessman. several thousand and n95 respirator masks like this one here we're headed out on the island of l alameda including here at the senior center there was a big demand for them the receptionist had to tell people that'd they'd run out at about 12noon....but then their thrid shipment of the day came thru and there were many in line to grab them up for themselves and their family members.... i didn't expect this i stopped in oakland to get it couldn't get any and raced over here not expect you to see this, and i suffer from asthma i'm a nurse i understand it's crazy for people but oh my gosh it's very stressfulthe owner of ga a thousand masks to the city of alameda...after the municipality tried to procure their own and failed. it's very hard to get you can't just walk into a shop and purchase them because they're in such high demand so e are again incredibly fortunate to be not only be able to get donation then the same person was able to secure us a couple extra thousand as well so we just feel very fortunatethose residents who got their hands on the masks....felt relief

visit at this point. what we do know-- he will be in butte county as well as southern california, touring the damage. state lawmakers say they are surprised-- but pleasantly surprised to hear of his visit. especially after his tweet last week saying there was no reason for the massive and deadly wildfires in the state. bay area congresswoman jackie speier spoke about the president's visit. "knowledge is power. and the president has been tweeting out really outrageous and false statements about the issues in california. i think its very important he be on the ground and see the devastation, the loss of life." (grant) in the east bay... a woman accused of dui in a crash that killed a walnut creek man and his 8-month-old child pleaded not guilty to murder charges. the crash happned in walnut creek last month on south broadway. 35-year-old jessica martin, from tennessee, was arrested at the scene. 45-year-old hector garza died at the scene and his baby girl camilla died at the hospital. a fundraiser set up to help garza's family has raised more than 100-thousand dollars. we have a link to the go-fund-me on our website at kron-4 dot com. (grant) police in hayward are investigating an officer involved shooting. it happened last night on o-neil avenue-- close to several car dealerships on mission boulevard. police say a man was reportedly armed with

(vicki) in the north bay.. a man is hit and killed by a smart train in santa rosa this morning. it happened south of the hearn avenue crossing. offcials say a man was walking down the middle of the tracks when he was hit. this is the 3rd time a person has been killed by a smart train since service begain in 20-17. two of them were determined to be suicides. advocates are cheering... saying today's ruling... is a win for journalism. this went to a judge when c-n-n filed a lawsuit after the white house refused to reinstate jim acosta's press credentials because of this exchange during a press conference on november 7th. the federal judge ruled the trump administration had most likely violated acosta's due process rights when it revoked his press badge. the judge, who was appointed by president trump, declined to elaborate on the first amendment issues cited by c-n-n in the lawsuit. but both acosta and the president had something to say about it. jim acosta / cnn reporter: i want to thank all of my colleagues who supported us this week and i want to thank the judge for the decision he made today and let's go back to work. 0:10president trump: people have to behave. we're writing up rules and regulations to make a position. i think you were treated very unfairly, both of you, if someone was interrupting you. if they don't listen to the rules and regulations, then we'll end up back in court and we'll win, but more you'll leave and then you won't be very happy." 0:36 there were other legal

and reports now ... one structure was destroyed in the fire... firefighters were working a steep hillside here on redhawk canyon road late this afternoon in a fire that destroyed one structure and threatened others along the narrow mountain road outside boulder creek. the fire started just after 11 a.m. near a log cabin on mayfield road. the fire would grow to roughly 10 acres before it was brought under control with plenty of air support from helicopters and air tankers dropping retardant. it was a close call says resident will clair..will claire/residentthe fire was burning in heavy timber but there was little or no wind to fan the flames. hand crews like this one were brought in to hunt down hot spots that could might flare up. there was no immediate word as to what caused the fire and no injuries were reported. in boulder creek rob fladeboe kron4news all of this bad air is

cal-fire update live on the "camp fire" in butte county... the latest.... 71 people have died..1011 people are unaccounted for.. that is up from 631 yesterday.146- thousand acres burned...the wildfire is now 50 percent contained.and it has destroyed over 12- thousand-263 buildings the fire has the fire has touched many lives -- both directly -- in the form of devastating flames -- and more indirectly --- in the form of poor air quality around the state. grant lodes joins us now with a look at how things have changed in the week since the fire first began. (ken) the price of p-g-and-e stock rebounded today... after falling sharply in the wake of the butte county fire. it closed at 24 dollars and 40 cents a share.. that's up more than six dollars from yesterday... but still only about half of what it was just weeks ago. it comes after california regulators hinted they would not let the company go bankrupt if it is found liable for the camp fire.
