( robin )crews continue to dig through remnants of burned and charred homes in paradise as the death toll from the deadly camp fire continues to climb. it has been 10 days since the camp fire started and crews are still desperately trying to find the nearly one thousand people who are missing. 77 people have been killed... and 993 are still unaccounted for. so far the fire has burned 150- thousand acres and it's 65-percent contained. mo than 14-thousand structures have been destroyed. and 15-thousand are still threatened. ( robin )an emotional vigil was held last night for those who lost their lives in the camp fire.the gathering became a chance for people to reflect on this tremendous loss in butte county.kron4's gayle ong attended the vigil.she spoke to people who lost their homes and are still looking for missing friends and neighbors. this devastated community gathered for a vigil sunday night,all of them sat in

silence at the first christian church of chico.holding one another ,as they pray for those who lost their lives in the camp fire. laura rivero-fisher came to comfort her grandchildren who lost their home in paradise. grateful her family is okay but is worried about friends who are missing..many of those who lost their lives were senior citizens..who died trying to escape the blaze.. by the time it hit paradise, the fast moving fire nearly wiped out the whole town in just hours.. leaving thousands of residents homeless.and displaced residents in limbo..it's the

( robin ) senator kamala harris toured the burn zone is paradise sunday. she joined firefighters, local leaders, emergency management officials, and evacuees impacted by the camp fire. senator harris said her heart aches for the families who have lost so much. and expresed thanks to those on the front lines. she added it is imparitive to give everyone the federal support they need. ( robin )governor jerry brown is expressing optimism that president donald trump will support the state as it deals with raging wildfires.governor brown said in an interview sunday that the president has "got our back" and has pledged to continue to help.trump initially blamed state officials for poor forest management in exacerbating the fires and threatened to cut off federal funding. he's since signed an emergency declaration and toured the devastated areas this weekend with brown and governor-elect gavin newsom.here's what he

said sunday following that meeting. ( robin )brown also suggested that the wildfires will make believers of even the most ardent climate change skeptics. he added that those living near forests might need to build underground shelters to protect them from wildfires going forward. ( robin ) the air quality isn't expected to get any better for a couple more days. the air quality this weekend wasn't as bad as it was last week but it's still between 151 to 200 which is the red range which is unhealthy for everyone, and it's likely to stay that way until it rains. the air quality index was nearly 300 on friday through saturday morning but dropped later in the day.

( robin ) the santa clara county medical examiner- coroner's office is working to identify a body that was found saturday in the bay near san jose. san jose police say they were notified yesterday afternoon of a possible body in the water near the alviso marina at 801 mill street. they say the coroner's office is investigating the identity of the male victim. it is unknown whether the body is connected to the washington state man who went missing during a san francisco 49ers football game at levi's stadium in santa clara on monday. 32-year-old ian powers left his seat to use the bathroom and never returned. powers' car was found in the stadium parking lot that night, and no foul play was detected. ( robin ) u-c berkeley police are looking for two women who assaulted and robbed a student on campus this weekend. it happened

around 1 saturday morning as the student was walking to building á2 on the clark kerr campus. the victim told police one of the women hit her over the head and then took her cell phone. the robbers drove toward piedmont avenue in a white toyota sienna mini van. berkeley police ask that your give them a call if you can help with this investigation. ( robin ) police in palo alto say a man robbed áfour businesses last week wearing a "phantom of the opera" mask. the áfirst happened at vin vino wine on california avenue just before 2:15 wednesday morning. police say the burglar took the cash register and smashed the window. the burglar also broke the windown at simple -be salon and spa on university avenue, also at a subway, and at sushi house on el camino real. he was wearing a white "the phantom of the opera" mask covering only half of his face during the burglaries. if you can help with this investigation, call police.

( robin) it was a busy sunday morning for the redwood city fire department. take a look at this picture posted on their twitter account. a car went straight through the window of a business around seven thirty in the morning. you can see from the picture the volvo went straight up over the curb and busted the front window of the blue mercury store. this happened at the sequoia station shopping center location on el camino real in redwood city. no word on any charges for the driver. ( robin ) in march of 2002, a crash on alhambra valley road in unincorporated contra costa county changed a little girl's life forever. c-h-p officer maguire was first on scene and provided life saving treatment for that little girl that helped to save her life. sixteen years later that little girl, christine, went looking for officer maguire to thank him. this is their reunion and the first time they've seen each other since that fateful

( robin ) we're continuing to follow the very latest on the camp fire. as we told you a little earlier, crews discovered another body sunday. that's brings the number of deaths to 77. the number of missing people is now 993. 14,500 structures have been destroyed... about 10-thousand of those are homes. the camp fire has burned more than 150-thousand-5- hundred acres. and is 65- percent contained. ( robin ) students, who know a little about loss themselves, are helping families who lost everything in the camp fire. these grant elementary students were in red bluff saturday handing out the coats they gathered in a drive this past week. inside the coats are heartwarming messages of encouragement from kids who have survived a similar

situation. the children survived the deadly carr fire in redding during the summer... and now sharing what they've learned. ( robin ) multiple redding businesses also pitched in. the students were in red bluff saturday giving out sandwiches, coats, and $2,000 worth of gift cards. this second picture.. because of the low visibliity from the smoke covering the city. ( robin ) and the air quality is not expected to get any better for a couple more days. kron4's sanaz ta- hernia went out to the ámarin headlands near the golden gate bridge. and tells us there was nothing to see but smoke. i'm here at battery spencer and as you can see, the fog is extremely thick, so you can't quite see what the air quality looks like, but i can tell you the air quality is worse today. now it's not as bad as it was over the weekend. this air quality this weekend was the worst air quality every recorded here in the bay area. the air quality index was nearly 300 on friday through yesterday morning and last night it dropped down to 16 which is much lwer than it was but still considered unhealthy. in addition to the air quality, the golden gate

bridge is under a heavy fog advisory today and while onshore fog sounds like a good thing, it's not strong enough to clear the air.and although the air quality is much better than it was this weekend, i spoke to a gentleman who says he's going to the city to escape what he thinks has been the worst."the smoke today is much worse. i went into airnow.com, and in my opinion it's worse than what they say, from my standpoint - from the person that's breathing it in." now today's air quality isn't as bad as it was over the weekend. it's between 151 to 200 which is the red range which is unhealthy for everyone, and it's likely to stay that way until it rains later next week. and keep in mind the bay area is under a spare the air advisory which prohibits, among other things, outdoor burning, so if you're planning on bbqinig or grilling outdoors, you're advised to wait until the air quality clears up.in battery spencer, sanaz tahernia, kron 4 news. insurance because he lives in a red zone. he's hoping that everyone can get the help they need in the long run. ( robin ) a community in orinda is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old girl who died in a house fire early sunday morning. the fire was so intense -- a firefighter was injured during the battle. kron 4's sanaz tahernia has details. crews are cleaning up the site of a deadly house fire that sparked in orinda early this morningthe fire that killed a 16-year-old girl, and severely burned three others started just before 4 amaccording to officials, when crews arrived, the fire was burning throughout the entire home while there were still 3 people inside. the 16-year-old girl, and two others that suffered from burns. moraga-orinda fire chief david winnacker said that once crews entered the home, conditions changed drastically.

( robin ) it appears condoleezza rice will ánotá be making n-f-l history. e-s-p-n reported that the former secretary of state was being considered to replace fired cleveland browns coach hue jackson. she would be the first woman ever interviewed to be an n-f-l team's head coach. but rice dismissed the report. she did push the n-f-l to put more females in leadership roles like head coaches, coordinators and other coaching staff roles. she has no professional coaching experience but did have some past executive roles in sports.

49ers football game at levi's stadium in santa clara on monday. 32-year-old ian powers left his seat to use the bathroom and never returned. powers' car was found in the stadium parking lot that night, and no foul play was detected. ( james ) a community in orinda is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old girl who died in a house fire. firefighters say when they arrived the house was filled with fire early sunday morning. one firefighter suffered second degree burns and was transported to a local hosptial and released. officials say they were able to rescue a man and transport him to the hospital where he is also suffering from second degree burns. firefighters say it was difficult to attempt to rescue the two because gas in the home ignited which caused the tile roof to collapse. ( robin ) a young woman got the chance to meet the c-h-p officer who helped save her life following a crash in contra costa county. c-h-p officer maguire was first on scene and provided life saving treatment for christine. the crash happened back in 2002 on alhambra valley road. sixteen years later she wanted to find officer maguire to thank him. this is their reunion and the first time they've seen each other since that day. ( james ) in national news... the first wave of central american migrants are at the u-s mexico border... and thousands more are expected to follow. but president trump is vowing to prevent them from crossing over. yesterday the migrants were met with protestors in tijuana... calling for them to retreat. but more migrants will be in tijuana soon as group of about 2-hundred left el salvador this weekend. last friday the first group of migrants in tijuana filled out paperwork for asylum.

( james ) a big story this moring as we continue our continuing coverage of the deadly camp fire burning in butte county... officials have raised the death toll to 77 this morning. 993 people are still unaccounted for. crews have been out for ten days trying to find any of the missing people. the fire has burned 150-thousand acres.. but containment has been raised to 65-percent. more than 14-thousand structures have been destroyed. and over 14-thousand are still threatened. ( james ) almost 1- thousand people are unaccounted for following the deadly camp fire. crews have spent more than a week searching for the people whose names are on a list from the sheriff's office. more

stomach churning despair. but here's one of great heroism. there was a bus driver just about two or three months into his job. he goes to ponderosa elementary school -- that's in paradise.the flames are burning ever so close to the school.it would eventually be damaged but he gets 22 schoolchildren, two teachers on that bus and they begin a harrowing drive to safety.mary ludwig:"it was um, very scary. it was like, um, felt like armageddon. i don't know another word to say."charlotte merz:"i was like seeing like smoke everywhere, i couldn't see hardly anything. i saw houses burning and animals in cars whining, and i love animals, it was so crazy and there were like fires left and right, everywhere you looked, there was like smoke everywhere and people trying to get out, and it was like really hard."so the odyssey through the inferno continued.

some of the young lungs of these little school children started filling up with smoke. they are on the brink of passing out, so they made makeshift respirators dampening pieces of the bus drivers t-shirt and putting it over their mouths.eventually they made it to safety.parents just so relieved and that bus driver kevin mckay made a joke. he said i'm sure glad i paid attention closely in class when i was taking those safety lessons and pointing out that after all safety is the first issue for a bus driver. ( james ) police in palo alto say a man robbed four businesses last week wearing a "phantom of the opera" mask. the first happened at vin vino wine on california avenue early wednesday morning. police say the burglar took the cash register and smashed the window. the burglar also broke the windown at simple -be salon and spa on university avenue, also at a subway, and at sushi house on el camino real. he was wearing a white "the phantom of the opera" mask covering only half of his face during the burglaries. if you can help with this investigation, call police. than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) a nebraska 9-1-1 dispatcher was in for a surprise when he got a call about a fire burning at his own home. bill wiese says the caller initially gave an address that was a few off from his ... but he knew it was his street. the woman then corrected the number to wiese's address. once the fire crews were dispatched.. he called his fiance and found that she and his two daughters were at dance. weise says all the calls he's taken remind him that this could have been much worse. moring as we continue our continuing coverage of the deadly camp fire burning in butte county... officials have raised the death toll to 77 this morning. 993 people are still unaccounted for. crews have been out for ten days trying to find any of the missing people. the fire has burned 150-thousand acres.. but containment has been raised to 65-percent. more than 14-thousand structures have been destroyed. and over 14-thousand are still threatened. have spent more than a week searching for the people whose names are on a list from the sheriff's office. more resources are opening up, such as this fema disaster center in chico. victims say, this center serves as another resource for family and friends to connect. one woman drove across the country to try to find her mother. ( james ) deputies admit that some people are not seeing their missing family members on the sheriff's office list. they say it takes time for them to update the list ... because they are receiving so many calls. the entire sheriff's list of the missing is posted on our website - kron four -dot com. the camp fire. angel flight west says the pilot was dick tak, who was a retired richmond police officer. the crash was reported thursday night. authorities say the other person was a nursing professor at sacramento state university. the national transportation safety board is investigating... the redding airport manager says the plane went down about one mile from the airport. ( robin ) some teachers in butte county are taking it upon themselves to help elementary school students feel a sense of normalcy. annie finney is providing story time to children inside the chico library. her classroom inside community charter school burned in the camp fire and so did most of her students homes. but she's helping to bring the kids together...to read, play, and to see familiar faces. it comes after the superintendent announced that all schools will remain closed through the end of the month. all of the students should be back in class on december third. fire in redding are helping families who lost everything in the camp fire. the students from grant elementary were in red bluff saturday handing out the coats they gathered in a drive this past week. inside the coats are heartwarming messages of encouragement from kids who have survived a similar situation. multiple redding businesses also pitched in. the students also gave out sandwiches, coats, and 2- thousand dollars worth of gift cards.
