jennifer sandell says her daughter's flight from newark new jersey was delayed for three hours. here's the moment jennifer sees her daughter, delighted to see their pup and hugs mom.a renuion they say is worth the wait.and that's the other thing causing delays..it wasn't the smoke from the wildfires, airport officials say today was all about the weather.this holiday traveler was stuck at the airport but considers herself lucky.

was pretty good considering we got off to a two hour late start, so not so bad. reporter: "you were delayed for two hours? what did you do with the time? traveler: "just sat at the airport, talked to people on the phone, watched people, that's always fun."> despite the long commute many travelers faced,their mood changed once they stepped off the plane.. ( james ) holiday traffic is going to be a big concern throughout the weekend. google says based on its data... the worst traffic expected for the bay area this holiday week may have áalready happened. and if you were on the road earlier this week... you probably saw it. kron 4's gabe slate was out driving around .. he shows us what it was like ... the embarcadero in san francisco wednesday afternoon was gridlocked southbound. as the mass holiday exodus unfoldedthe weather did not help.. traffic lights were out at 3rd street next to at&t park, san francisco police had to come out and direct

traffic. and then drivers who made it on to the 280 south ramp off king street in san francisco were immediately slowed down againthe two right lanes were flooded near the caesar chavez exit. just a mile further south, still in san francisco, on highway 101 southbound, just after the 280 split, the left side of the highway was flooded, again slowing down traffic.aaa and google said based on their data the worst traffic expected for the bay area would be the day before thanksgiving between 1 and 4pm. that is right when i was driving around and from what i saw their prediction was correct bad timing for the 1st rain of the season sound from - commuter driving in rain "saw 5 accidents today" jamelle echoed what most people told me today who were driving around this slow holiday rain traffic. the clean air was worth itsound from - commuters driving in the rain in millbrae gabe slate kron 4 news

news ( james ) as you just heard, the death toll rose last night in butte county as the fight against the 'camp fire' continues. this... as the rain makes it more difficult for search teams to identify the remains of victims . here's a look at the most recent numbers released by cal-fire.

( james ) with the two bodies found wednesday, the number of deaths now stands at 83. the number of missing people is now 563. more than 18- thousand structures have been destroyed.... more than 13 and a half-thousand of those are homes. the camp fire has burned more than 153,000 acres. and is 85- percent contained. and it looks like almost a thousand firefighters are getting to go home as the personnel on the line is now 37 hundred. ( james ) of the 83 victims ... 58 have been identified. six more names were released wednesday... they are: teresa ammans - 82 years old of paradise... richard brown - 74 .. of concow... maria wehe- 78 years old of concow... kimber weir 53 of paradise... joseph rabetoy 34 of paradise... joan tracy 80-years old of paradise... sheriff kory honea talked about why he believes

releasing the names is so important. ( james ) the family of one of those victims is sueing pg&e, blaming it for starting the fire and the many deaths that followed. wednesday the lawyer for the family of gerald "jerry" rodrigues filed a wrongful death lawsuit. jerry served in the navy and had a large group of friends in paradise and served the community. he lived in the pinecrest mobile home park on skyway. we spoke with the family's lawer, who hopes this will hold pg&e accountable and

prevent future fires from happening. and even though cal fire has not issued a cause for the camp fire... the family believes they have enough evidence to sue. ( james ) rodrigues is survived by his daughter and his three grandchildren. ( james ) pg&e responded to the lawsuit by saying: "our hearts are with the communities impacted by the camp fire. the loss of life and property is staggering. right now, our entire company is focused on supporting first responders and assisting our customers and communities impacted by the camp fire." ( james ) at the same time, crews in butte county

continue to dig through the rubble in their search for the missing. however the rain we had wednesday did have an effect on their work. kron 4's alecia reid rode along with cal- fire .. and caught up with the menlo park urban search and rescue team in magalia. they're gonna stay here as long as it takesit's a big, large area to searchone property at a time ...it's gonna take daysmembers from the menlo park urban search and resue team joined forces with other california strike team of engines in magalia. some of the teams that were here earlier in the week didn't have some of the tools that these guys have. these guys have all the equipment to handle heavier rescues like sheet metal and things like thatonce an area is done, it is noted.it also allows crews that come by to know if they were able to find anything on this site and if there are any hazardsrecovery efforts were non-stop through wednesday's downpour.makes things slippery, makes things more dangerous for these guys. it's making things a bit more muddy, a little tougher to separate thingsworking in the

four's rob fladeboe reports, d-n-a evidence has led the authorities to arrest an east bay man in the murder. laurie smith/santa cara county sheriff "....in my mind he may well be a serial killer but we still have a lot of investigating to do..."santa clara county sheriff laurie smith is talking about this man, 74 year old john arthur getreu, of hayward, under arrest in connection with the february 1973 murder of then 21 year stanford university graduate leslie marie perlov. sheriff laurie smith "....we had evidence from 1973 that had been preserved, that had dna that we believed came from the suspect and ising a dna familial database we were able to identify potential suspects..."perlov's body was found near her car in the hills off old page mill road near stanford university. she had been strangled. a sample of getreu's dna was sent to the virginia-based parabon nanolabs, specializing in genetic geneology says sgt. noe cortez.sgt. noe

cortez/santa clara county sheriff's office '....they look into profiles and family members and the public data base and from their they look into generations of family members and they link the dna to a specific person...."sgt. shannon catalano/santa clara county sheriff's office "....this man has a history in germany where he was convicted of murder and rape and he also has a convictin locally for rape..." a similar dna search led to the recent arrest of joseph deangelo, the suspected golden state killer. getreu reportedly worked in palo alton when leslie perlov was murdered. sheriff laurie smith "....even though this person has lived for 45 years without being in rison, he is in jail now and we believe he is the suspect and we believe he will be convicted, in san jose rob fladeboe kron4news ( james ) take a look at this... the centennial wheel at navy pier pays

tribute to fallen chicago police officer samuel jimenez who was killed in the shooting monday at mercy hospital. you can see a black star right in the middle of the ferris wheel in honor of the fallen officer. ( james ) we are also learning new details about the gunman who shot and killed three people in cold blood at a chicago hospital earlier this week... as reporter andy rose explains.... the shooter had a very dark past... "as we mourn this senseless act and loss of life.. it occured at a place called mercy hospital."light and love.. shinning through a moment of darkness in chicago. people gathered wednesday evening to remember..doctor tamara o'neal..pharmacy resident, dayna less and police officer, samuel jimenez. three people killed by a man with a gun.dr. heather prendergast, uic emergency medicine: "you look at tamara's life and they way it was taken from her in such a senseless way."police say the

shooter, juan lopez, attended church with his ex-fiance, o'neal..the day before he confronted her in the hospital parking lot..demanding his engagement ring back before shooting her, according to police.she had called their engagement off in september, according to her father.he said lopez couldn't accept that their relationship was over.in 20-14, lopez was dismissed from the city's fire academy nine weeks after he was hired.after disappearing from a disciplinary process related to what the fire academy called "bullying" issues....and never showing back up for the job.police radio: "more shots fired! more shots fired!"the chicago police department now mourns the killing of one of their own..28-year-old samuel jimenez leaves behind a wife - his high school sweetheart and three young children..matthew whitaker, acting u.s. attorney general: "he did what police officers do every single day of the year. he ran towards the danger. he ran towards the sound of gunshots. and he did that so that the rest of us could run away from the danger."i'm andy rose reporting.

( james )as many of us us celebrate the thanksgiving holiday... some evacuees of the camp fire are feeling mixed emotions. many who've escaped with their lives have lost their homes. one family isn't sure what condition their home in paradise is in.narrowly escaped the flames in paradise

with their newborn baby. joe khalil has their story. "i'm thankful and grateful i have my family. thats not the same for a lot of people."as maxx and vaughna ( james ) as many of us celebrate the thanksgiving holiday... some evacuees of the camp fire are feeling mixed emotions. many who've escaped with their lives have lost their homes. one family isn't sure what condition their home is in.

"i'm thankful and grateful i have my family. thats not the same for a lot of people."as maxx and vaughna schooler prepare for thanksgiving...the idea of being thankful itself for them has taken on a whole new meaning.vaughna schooler / camp fire evacuee:"it just really is amazing, what people can do. the community and...this devastation."two weeks ago...the schoolers welcomed baby brielle into the world.the next day...vaughna was evacuated from feather river hospital."you could see flames coming up the canyon on the backside of the hospital. okay theres something serious going on here."while a deputy evacuated vaughna and the baby...her husband maxx and their four-year-old son lucas were trying desperately to drive out of paradise.maxx schooler / camp fire evacuee: "at one point you start thinking like okay, am i going to die? is my family going to die?"nearly out of the flames...maxx says his

carwhich was heating up and already full of smoke stopped working."at that point he started freaking out, wanting his mom."maxx cant explain what happenedbut when all hope seemed lost his car started to work again.they made it outand eventually the family was reunited.now as they prepare to host about ten people for thanksgiving in this temporary home...this young family is counting their blessings."i'm thankful i get to be here with my family."on top of the fact that theyre all together...nats these are all the extra donations they've received.so many clothes...toys and other items theyre now sending most of it back to other victims and other charitable organizations."i keep seeing it everywhere but it really is, you know, butte strong. so, were thankful."they may not have a home in paradise left but this family has a houseful of reasons to be thankful. ( james ) meanwhile, the

search continues for victims of the deadly camp fire. cadaver dogs spent wednesday searching for remains amid the destruction in paradise. 563- people are still listed as missing. the rain wednesday did help containing the remaining flames but also hindered efforts to find victims. and even though it's thanksgiving... cal fire says it will not stop looking for people lost to the fire.

thousand dollars for camp fire victims. community presbyterian church ... schools and sports teams held a gift card drive and at last check, have raised 62-thousand dollars. kron4's michelle kingston has their story on how they did it! favorite san francisco store - wilkes bashford .. named for this best friend who passed away.. there are photographs here of the two of them together .. everywhere.."we became instant friends .. he became like a brother"ever the charmer, "hello mayor brown.. hey baby how are you" he is surrounded by memories and friends here .. "i believe you're in there" this is mineola when we went to get train to stop""i have this hat" from his admittedly humble start in that small texas town of mineola .. he styles kiton and brioni and laughs that growing up, this was not the case."in those days you put stuff on layaway cause you couldn't afford to pay full price. sometimes by the time you finished paying for it.. you had outgrown it -laughter." friendships have always been important to him .. and now he has more time to nurture them - especially at his regular friday afternoon lunch spot - le central .. while two of his closest friends - wilkes and herb caen - have passed on

.. he has recruited others ... "one thing the six of us dined every friday.. still a reality with only 2 of original group still here.. other friends added'... and now holds court with new friends. " they're more important than ever. "i really treasure relationships. i respect relationships and i want people to always know and remember me in a favorable way" a man who is accustomed to being driven ... now loves to walk the streets of san francisco "my walking is great therapy- eliminates the need id ever have for psychiatric service .. because im so well treated on the street " there's also more time for his other favorite thing.. ( james ) there's a war of words brewing between president trump and chief justice john roberts. it began wednesday when roberts issued a rare rebuke of the president for criticizing a member of the federal appeals court as an "obama judge."

roberts responded by saying "we do not have obama judges or trump judges, bush judges or clinton judges. what we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them."he president firing back on twitter.saying in part: "sorry chief justice john roberts but you do indeed have obama judges... it would be great if the 9th circuit was indeed an independent judiciary."then he admonished roberts to study the numbers and added they are shocking and making our country unsafe. it all started as the president left the white house yesterday blasting a judge's decision for temporarily blocking one of his executive orders to change u-s asylum policy.it's unclear if justice roberts will respond or if the president will continue the fued.he is spending thanksgiving in south florida. rafael bridge ( james ) happy thanksgiving. like most of us, you're probably counting down the hours until you can dive into your thanksgiving dinner or lunch. but did you know... that turkey is a relativley new part of the annual tradition. the first thanksgiving probably didn't have any turkey. it took place almost 400 years ago, in 16-21. after a brutal first winter in america, native americans taught the pilgrams how to farm the land. and the pilgrims are believed to have celebrated their first successful harvest by inviting the native americans to a feast in november. that meal was celebrated for more than 200 years before abraham lincoln made it a national holiday in 18-63 during the height of the civil war. however you

have trees down and a lot of issues especially in the roadways where they were in the fire area and have root damage as a result of the fire." "theres too much cleaning up to do.">( james ) trying to keep it all intact is a lot of work for the public works department... especially since nearly a fifth of the employees lost their homes to the fire. in order to keep an eye on infrastructure concerns... they say a majority of the department will be working through the holiday. ( james ) new this morning... oakland polcie have made an arrest in connection to the october construction site fire. police did not provide many details in the arrest.. but they say the arson arrest in connected to the fire in the 32-hundred block of peralta street that broke out on october 23rd. ( james ) san francisco police have

made an arrest in connection to a fire on geary street. 58-year-old atxay phongvichhith was arrested on monday on two felony arson charges. police say on sunday they responded to a fire at the commercial building on the 800 block of geary street. police were able to identify the suspect via surveillance footage. ( james ) on the peninsula... san bruno police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run investigation. police say on monday they responded to a crash in the 23- hundred block of rollingwood road. when officers arrived they learned a ford mustang hit a parked car and the driver had fled. during their investigation polcie identifed the driver as 29-year-old jhovanny hernanadez. hernanadez was in the process of leaving the area in a rideshare when polcie located him. he was arrested and booked into the san mateo county jail. ( james ) in the north bay... santa rosa police arrested a man in the unprovoked stabbing of a woman at her front door. police say jesse james graham

attacked the victim without warning.... as she got home from work and was trying to unlock her front door. police say graham then stabbed her in the back. the victim suffered a life- threatening injury and had to have emergency surgery. she is now in stable condition. police say they do not have a motive in the attack. ( james ) yesterday's rain caused a lot of problems at the s-f-o for people traveling into and out of the bay area. at least 47 flights were canceled yeasterday because of the rain. one person said her daughters flight from new jersey was delayed for three hours. but they say the wait was worth it to finally get back home. < and yeah, everytime san francisco gets rained, the two runways can't operate so everything just gets delayed, especially the long distance stuff so i kind of knew it would happen but i'm kind of glad to be here.">( james ) despite the delays... travelers we talked to were happy to be in san francisco for the holidays. everyone made it safely to where they want to be this holiday. the airports were certainly packed with travelers yesterday rushing to catch their flights. kron 4's gayle ong gives us a look at what it was like at s-f-o people at s-f-o tonight people at s-f-o people at s-f-o tonight hovering around the arrivals board,waiting on loved ones to land..portola valley resident jennifer sandell says her daughter's flight from newark new jersey was delayed for three hours. here's the moment jennifer sees her daughter, delighted to see their pup and hugs mom.a renuion they say is worth the wait.

toll in butte county is continuing to rise. it now stands at 83 people killed. hundreds of people remain missing this morning. more than 18-thousand structures have been destroyed... more than 13- thousand of those are homes. the camp fire has burned more than 153-thousand acres and its 85-percent contained. "this is an important lawsuit and we need to protect these people from future fires like this and we need to find out what happened to all these other people that are missing." ( james ) the family of one of those victims is sueing pg&e, blaming it for starting the fire and the many deaths that followed. wednesday the lawyer for the family of gerald "jerry" rodrigues filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

jerry served in the navy and had a large group of friends in paradise and served the community. he lived in the pinecrest mobile home park on skyway. we spoke with the family's lawer, who hopes this will hold pg&e accountable and prevent future fires from happening. and even though cal fire has not issued a cause for the camp fire... the family believes they have enough evidence to sue.

( james )at the same time... crews in butte county continue to dig through the rubble in their search for some of the missing. kron 4's alecia reid rode along with cal- fire .. and caught up with the menlo park urban search and rescue team in magalia. they're gonna stay here as long as it takesit's a big, large area to searchone property at a time ...it's gonna take daysmembers from the menlo park urban search and resue team joined forces with other california strike team of engines in magalia. some of the teams that were here earlier in the week didn't have some of the tools that these guys have. these guys have all the equipment to handle heavier rescues like sheet metal and things like thatonce an area is done, it is noted.it also allows crews
