( james ) before the rain started coming down again last night, kron4's gayle ong went out to walnut creek. where commuters were not excited about the prospect of having to drive on wet roads. it is the calm before the storm..here in walnut creek, some are not pleased with mother nature's expected heavy downpour..helen mekonnen drives to work from union city to dublin..she has a point...the wet conditions have caused many accidents in the bay area,prompting first resonders urging everyone to take it slow on the roads.. and then there's the impact on the bart

the return of wet weather always brings with it the risk and danger of flooding. and it really doesn't take a lot of rain to create problems. a single blocked storm drain can flood an intersection or a home. kron 4's charles clifford is in san francisco with a look at what the city is doing to prevent problems. natswednesday afternoon, an sf puc crew was hard at work clearning drains in the city's north beach neighborhoodnats teams like this one regularly check to make sure that san francisco's vast network of storm drains and sewers are clear of clogsif they find a problem, they can lower a powerfull suction tube down into the drain to clear out any leaves or debris. natthey then flush the drain with water and check the nearby sewer lines to make sure that everything is flowing.natsthis

drain is clear, but many are not. just a small pile of leaves can block a drain and flood the area.natsthis was a city worked clearing leaves earlier in the day.natand while crews are doing what they can to fix problems, the puc is also asking residents to do their part to keep the water flowing. if a storm drain is clogged, clear it out if you can do so safely.clear gutters and drain around your home and use sand bags to prevent flooding in garages or low lying area.avoid flushing wet wipes or anything that might clog a drainand report problems when you see them. im live in novato where its on and off pouring. the slick, wet roads combined with the high winds make for dangerous conditions out there on the roads. most people i saw driving northbound on 101 were driving under the speed limit which was necessary to avois hydroplaning in some of the flooded areas. looking out at the south bound lanes people are not taking it slow. so keep in mind this morning you need to go slower and provide more space between you and the car in front of you. we will be live all this morning to provide updates on the conditions of the north bay. live in novato, sara stinson kron four news.###

arrested a man in texas who made social media threats to a local school. this is a picture of police arresting tristan amir in austin texas. investigators say amir sent threatening messages on snapchat to a group of teen girls at freedom high school in late august. they say he sent threats to the entire campus and school staff. curl is in the process of being transferred back to california. a case is being prepared for the contra costa district attorney's office and the us attorney's office. ( james ) starting next summer a new area code will be used for new phone lines. the 3-4-1 area code will be added to the 5-10 region in the east bay. officials say it is to make sure there are enough phone numbers in the area. people with the 5-10 area codes will keep their numbers... but they will have to start dialing one before the area code for all call made from a landline.
