(vicki) happening now... there are dangerously big waves along the coast tonight. this is video from the moonraker restaurant in pacifica. the assistant manager there tells kron-4 three big waves hit the restaurant early this morning, breaking a window and causing significant structural damage. a high surf warning is in effect until 9:00 tonight. can seehow the waves start to form way out there, gaining momentum before rollinginto shore. the high surf didn't quite live up to expectations but people were heeding the warnings nonetheless. nats (waves break along side pier)this was seacliff state beach early monday as the storm-driven waves battered the cement ship and pier before crashing ashore. the pier is closed along with waterfront campsites after about fifteen campers were evacuated overnight to higher ground, including aurelio rodriguez.aurelio rodriguez/evacuated from high surf area "...yeah, it's nice to see nature like that but the surf was big...."farther north, the capitola warf was also closed for a time. sandbags are in place but the surf stopped just short of causing problems for busnesses and residents along the

a multi-billion dollar fine. a european regulator said it's launching an investigation into the company over failure to protect user privacy. this comes after multiple data breaches. the most recent happened last week-- after facebook announced it had exposed private photos from nearly 7- million users. and in september, the company says hackers accessed the personal information of tens of millions of facebook users. it was the biggest security breach in facebook's history. (vicki) google is growing its presence in new york. today, the company announced plans to invest one billion dollars into improvements at its new campus. "google hudson square" will serve as the primary home for the company's global business

organization. google estimates a move in date of 20-20 for part of the 1 point 7 million square foot campus. earlier this year -- the company bought the manhattan chelsea market for 2 point 4 billion dollars to continue to grow its new york workforce. currently about 7,000 people work for google in new york city. today about teens and vaping... it shows a signficant jump - nearly doubling the number from last year... in the number of kids using the nicotine devices. and as kron four's terisa estacio reports... in the bay area, those numbers are even higher.(pkg) the recent survey finds that one in 5 high school seniors were vaping in 2018...... and the numbers just get worse... the monitoring the future survey shows that in 10th grade, the rate of kids vaping went form 8.2 percent to 16.1 percent, 8th grade, 3.5 percent to 6.1 percent. jasmine gerraty, youth tobaco prevent coordinator, marin co. public health dept. "here it is even worse." i meet up with jasmine gerraty with marin county's public health department and olivia carpeneter, an intern in the department involved in public outreach. olivia carpenter. i think most don't think how bad it is - like it is not as bad as cigerettes, so they use and then get hooked. in fact, the

(grant) plus... a man demolishes a landmark home in san francisco. now he is rebuilding-- but it comes with some consequences. why the home will look exactly the same as it did before it was torn down.

(vicki) the san francisco planning commission is ordering a property owner to rebuild an exact replica of a home they say he illegally demolished. kron4's maureen kelly has reaction to this unprecidented decision. here's a photo that shows what the largent house looked like before it was torn down. the 1936 home was designed by premiere modernist architect richard neutra. the one bedroom home was sold in 2017 for 1-point-7 million last year. the owner got permission to expand it while still perserving the first floor. but instead the city says he razed most of the strucure...........and now this is all that's left. ross johnston applied for a retroactive demo permit and asked to build a home more than triple it's orginigal size. he's argued that the home's historic value was erased by a previous fire and past renovations.instead in a

surprise move, the planning commission ordered him to rebuild an exact replica of what was torn down.those in the neighborhood applaud the deciscion.if there was if it didn't go through the proper legislative to be taken down i think action is warranted here i think that's a great oh wonder if they're going to actually get them to do that that's the first report we're hearing but i find san francisco city government to be pretty weakrecently supervisor aaron peskin introduced legislation that would tighten city rules around illegal demolitions by increasing fines and ensure enforcement. the ceo of san francisco heritage helped craft that ordinance.i think it was an extraordinary step by the planning commission. it makes this case a cautionary tale for any future it would vies illegal demolition to consider that the city will enforce its rules and penalties will be in force for illegal demolition(maureen)the lawyer representing the homeowner has yet to respond to our request for comment on this unprecdented decision. maureen kelly kron4 news.

happened on friday on chumasero drive in the city's parkmerced area. police say two men broke into a home-- and assaulted a man before taking several of his belongings. the 32-year- old victim was sleeping at the time. he was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries-- but is expected to be okay. police do not have any description of the suspects. they are asking anyone with information to please call them. (grant) in the south bay... police in san jose are looking for a driver who hit and killed a pedestrian and then drove off. it happened just before one this morning at the intersection of first and east rosemary streets. the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital. police do not have a description of the car or the driver. (grant) in sunnyvale, police are looking for the person who they say sexually assaulted a woman near a caltrain station. it happened around six thursday morning... a woman was walking in the area of willow and aster avenues just south of the lawrence caltrain station. that's when police say a man approached her from behind and began groping her. a person walking by stopped the

assault and the attacker ran off. the person police are looking for - is described as 5-feet-7 inches tall with a medium build and was wearing a maroon jacket. (vicki) in the east bay... concord police have identified a man who brought a gun to the sun valley mall-- and accidentally fired a shot. police say the man contacted them... and he works for the department of corrections and rehabilitation-- and the gun was legally possessed. the incident happened yesterday around 4:00-- and no body was injured. police have ruled it an accident and no charges are being filed. (vicki) five people are hurt after a pick-up truck crashed into a sizzler restaurant in hayward. police say a two vehicle crash sent the truck off of hesperian boulevard into the corner of the restaurant yesterday afternoon. the five people injured were inside the restaurant.. they had minor to moderate injures. the sizzler is closed for now... as workers clean up the debris. the restaurant gave no timeline of when they think they will re-open. official for the department of homeland security says u-s authorities do not mark any of the migrants with numbers. instead the markings reportedly come from volunteers at the border or from the migrants themselves. the numbers are supposedly used as an unofficial wait- list system to deal with the long lines. (vicki) a new report shows californians have some of the worst christmas spirit. the study by century link... looked at online activity and area culture. they looked at things like the number of searches for christmas movies and christmas music... and online shopping trends for things like christmas cards and christmas ornaments. the study also looked at the number of tree farms per capita and charitable giving. over all california came in 42nd on the list of states with the most christmas spirit. number one on the list was washington state. the monday morning vibes were quite different depending which side of the bridge you woke up on...another tough day for raider nation...but finally for 49er fans, some reasons to be optimistic. san francisco finally snapped a five year, 10-game series losing streak against division rival seattle yesterday at levi's stadium...the niners playing well in all three phases of the game..a special teams touchdown for richie james one of the highlights... backup quarterback nick mullens played well in his 6th start...and the defense made some big plays...leading to robbie gould's game-winning field goal in overtime...a 26 to 23 win for san francisco... today head coach kyle shanahan talked about his team's late season momentum... "you get better the more you play. i think we've given guys a lot of opportunities in these two years to play. i don't think they have gotten it right away. but, when you've got the right guys and they continue to work at it, i think they naturally get better. i don't know if that's the exact reason it's happened in these two seasons. we have played a lot of younger guys."

cleanup project -- an enviromental team that went across the pacific from alameda three months ago -- has hit a bit of a snag. it's apparently not doing a great job of collecting all the plastic litter that's currently floating in the great garbage patch between california and hawaii. the issue is that the 2-thousand foot floating boom is moving slower than the plastic trash in the ocean... a team of engineers has been sent to fix the speed problem. the head of the project says he's hoping the first load of trash will be hauled back to land by next summer.
