air. >> won't make it. >> oh, but it will. this is "entertainment tonight." ♪ merry christmas, everybody. merry christmas, kevin. >> merry christmas, nancy. >> even though i already told you. >> yeah. everybody, it is the perfect night to celebrate the big stars who have even bigger hearts. >> did santa bring you everything you wanted? >> and more. >> i feel the same way. back to the big stars and their generosity. it was on display during the california wildfires. some famous faces lost all or portions of their homes. here's the cool thing -- they turned their efforts to helping others. ♪ >> very real for all of us. we evacuated, all of us. >> i'm honored to be here. i can't believe they asked me. ♪ >> i think you just have to keep talking about it. even though it seems okay now, it's not okay for the people who lost their homes and don't have anything. >> like so many of the stars, they came out to support malibu. katy perry had a personal connection.

>> i'm really here because this guy. my pianist that is playing with me, he lost his house. we were on tour, and then he came home, and he didn't have a home. so it's been kind of intense. very personal. >> to raise money at the one-love festival, katy auctioned off a motorcycle ride with her man, orlando bloom. she won the day for herself with a $50,000 bid. she wasn't the only big name giving back. >> on my way now to a shelter in california to be with people who have evacuated their homes. >> lady gaga delivered pizza to a shelter during the evacuation and met with families who had been displaced. meanwhile, actor alyssa milano took part in a cbs telethon for wildlife relief. her son suffered smoke damage. >> i'm so blessed. so blessed. and it's like if i could come out and try to raise money for those that weren't as lucky, then i'm more than happy to do so. >> actor girard butler hosted his own fdraiser for fire relief. his home went from this to this.

>> we have to do something -- >> and by the end of the day, we had two white albino rabbits. >> these are for sure the ones, for sure. >> the other day, she goes, honey, how do you feel about pigs? i said, honey, just adopt it. just -- i don't -- >> i love him. >> kaylee's dedication to saving animals extends to her pet project, paw works. a nonprofit rescue organization. we were with her for their stand up for pits event where they raised nearly $23,000 for the cause. >> had pit bulls for the last ten years. and i've realized they are looked at in such a way that i completely disagree with. i wanted to be their voice. i'll do anything for any animal at any time. this event holds dear to my heart. i will host this until the day i die. let's talk about eva langua longoria. >> she's setting a example and creating a better world for her 6-month-old son santiago, too, as kelsey knight found out. >> what is he doing that is

melting your heart at this moment? >> he's laughing a lot now. [ laugh ] >> the first two months he was a beautiful blob. and now he's grabbing and reacting and touching my face. and, you know, every stage is my favorite. >> eva's making sure she raises 6-month-old santiago right. the working mom brings him to set, teaches him that it's important to read, and above all, you got to pay it forward. we were there as eva visited the girls athletic leadership school, spreading her message of girl power. >> the eva longoria foundation helps young latinas reach their full potential in life. today we're here visiting diy girls. >> yes. >> and it's electronics and robotics -- it teaches leadership and mentorship. do you want to be an engineer? >> yes. >> yes? so great. what are you the most proud of since starting this foundation? >> this, days like today. i'm so proud to see these programs working. >> yes. >> actually changing their lives. >> so far, eva's foundation has

raised more than $3 million for latina education. every move matters because this little guy's watching. >> i think there's no better way to teach him about it than just to show him. i mean -- that's what he's doing now. this is his stage, he's sticking out his tongue -- >> he looks exactly like you. >> good mom, good role model. well, it's hard to believe that it has been three years since patrick dempsey said good-bye to "grey's anatomy." in real life, the former tv doc is still helping those in need. and only "e.t." was with him for patrick's inspiring next chapter. >> i really love doing this work. and i think it's very special, very moving t me. >> tv's dr. mcdreamy is a real-life hero. he has a passion for helping others and opened the dempsey center that helps 3,600 cancer patients a year. it was inspired by his late mother who passed away after a 17-year battle with ovarian cancer. how did her journey inspire you to create this? >> losing my mother to cancer

has made it a profound positive impact on the community. and that's special. >> the facility in lewiston, maine, patrick's home state, provides free wellness treatments such as yoga, therapy, and nutrition classes. >> this is real life. and you know, when you encounter someone who's just been recently diagnosed and they step off the elevator and they come here for the first time, that's a profound moment for both people. for myself and for the client coming in. >> he's not a real-life doctor, of course, but he provides lots of emotional support on his frequent visits and even sits in on sessions. >> i think people like that i'm here i like being here. i learn a lot every time i come in. >> patrick showed us around the center run by executive director wendy tardin. >> all you need to do is walk through our doors, and we'll help you. >> and patrick oversees the annual dempsey challenge. >> everybody here and everyone's hearts are open. >> thousands turned out for a massive walk to raise funds for

the center. it's where patrick's two sisters revealed it took a while to realize their baby brother was a major celebrity. >> i remember one time talking smack about him in a restaurant. i looked up, and he was on the tv. i was like, oh, god. >> "e.t." goes way back with patrick from "can't buy me love" to playing kirstie allie's love interest in "lover boy." >> we had fun. it was romantic. like a romantic movie all the way through. >> as well as dr. derek shepherd on "grey's" made his a household name. although gone from the show for a while, he's proud of his tv legacy. ellen pompeo paid you the biggest compliment saying you are a tough act to follow, and that's why her character has had a tough time finding love. how do you respond? >> that's a wonderful compliment. thank you. that was a special bond -- there was a magic to our connection. >> we do miss seeing derek and meredith together on "grey's." don't we? >> it would be cool to bring him back for a dream sequence. >> i guess you could. patrick also has a special

she's one of ours. she's one of our wardrobe stylists at "e.t." she told me this story because it meant the world to her. >> i was outside eating with my boyfriend. and i felt someone walk up to me. but i turned and looked, and it was him. >> it was a small act of kindness, our friend jacqueline will never forget. she was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer in april, and we watched her brave chemo and radiation with grace and a sense of humor. i even had the honor of helping her out with a new do, but michael had no idea she was one of our own when he saw her at a local l.a. restaurant. >> man, i feel like i want to give her a hug right now. i was like, excuse me, i feel the need to give you some love right now. i don't know why -- i don't want anything. i just want to give you a hug. she gave me a hug. and you know -- that was it. >> he even turned to my boyfriend and told him to hang in there, and he told us to have a blessed night, i believe. >> aw.

[ laughter ] so cute. anna faris paid a surprise visit to a los angeles elementary school last september to encourage kids to spend time cooking with their families. >> you know someone else who is a proud family man, loves his children? kevin hart. but, kev also uses his big heart to pay it forward. and "e.t." has been there with kevin for every single feel-good moment. ♪ >> right now in a great mood simply because i'm out here putting smiles on people's faces. more importantly, i'm doing it with my kids. just seeing my kids embrace giving and understanding what it means to help others. so that's what it's about.

[ applause ] >> yay! >> everybody wants to be a part of something because there's a positive effect to it. ultimately, it's not about me. it's about the children. it's about the people who are in need. and the people who kind of need a little boost, a little push to show their love. that's all this is. >> you know, will ferrell, like kevin hart, uses his comedic skill to help others. when i caught up with will, we talked about all the charitable endeavors he's taking part in. first we had to flash back to his day on "snl." best part of your "snl" days? >> probably not throwing away the cow bell sketch. ♪ >> cow bell. better -- got to be cow bell. >> i tried it once earlier that year. it didn't work at the read-through, and i brought it back. i ruined his career. >> i could have used a little more cow bell.

>> will revisited the sketch on stage at l.a.'s greek theater interrupting a performance by cold play's chris martin, one of the many famous faces supporting cancer for college. ♪ cancer for college is a charity very close to will's heart. it was started 25 years ago by his college fraternity brother, craig poler, who is a two-time cancer survivor. craig battled the disease when he and will were college sophomores at usc. >> it forced me to take an inventory of my life at a young age to find out what, you know, impact i was making in the world. >> that impact has been major. events like this one have raised more than $3 million in scholarships to cancer survivors hoping to go to college. >> there's so much focus obviously on getting through surviving cancer that a lot of families don't have resources for college. >> will has been a part of the cancer for college organization from the start and has brought countless celebs to the cause. will's ron burgundy made a special appearance at the fundraiser and was joaned by

james corden, jimmy kimmel, and conan o'brien. it was called will ferrell's best night of your life. we had to ask about some of his best moments. best part of making the movie "elf "elf"? >> getting to wear yellow tights for 75 days of shooting. >> best part of dressing up as ron burgundy? >> the canadian curling finals. ron actually got do the commentary with the real announcers. i saw this shot once completed in '72. >> best part of being a father? >> asking them 20 times a day to clean up their clothes and turn off lights. they waste a lot of energy. >> do not believe a thing will says. the person who's really running things in the ferrell household, his wife, vivica. family also, cindy crawford's number-one priority -- she would be the first to tell you she lives a blessed life with her husband, randy gerber, and their two kids. when i had the chance to sit down with the supermodel mama, we talked about the importance of helping parents who aren't quite as fortunate. >> why i'm here is to help shine

a light on the work that sean and kiley are doing after losing their first child to a stillborn birth. i lost a brother when i was 10-years-old. this evening as a 10-year-old, i -- even then as a 10-year-old i saw people don't know how to talk about loss. we are not taught how to grieve. >> cindy is spreading a message of compassion especially to those who lose a baby to stillbirth. her friends experienced that in 2005 and hope to help others turn their journey in the film "return to zero." minnie driver played kiley. >> giving birth to a baby that you know is dead is horrible. you have to go into that place of survival to get through it. >> it's a powerful story. how hard was it to watch it being played out on screen? >> what we wanted to do in making this film is to let other parents know they're not alone. >> they lost a child. even though they never got to

meet norbert alive outside of your -- you played music for him, you talked to him. even having nicknames for them. i think presley was like lima bean or something like that. >> sean and kiley have two children now, and they're also close with cindy, randy, and their kids. the takeaway is all about healing, hope, and gratitude for families. >> i like most mothers or parents, i love looking back at when the kids were little. but also how far we've come. >> you know, cindy and randy have found the perfect balance between family and career. they've done so well. and by the way, please go and support the "return to zero" organization at rtzhope.org. kiley and sean, such good people. it is a meaningful organization. >> so nice. all right, coming up, only we are with daddy dax shepard where we found him spreading holiday cheer.
