( marty ) happening today...some teachers in oakland are preparing for a strike. it comes after hundreds of teachers demonstrated in front of the district office in a sick-out on friday. many of them chanted and held signs demanding higher wages and smaller classrooms. kron 4's gayle ong has more. a much calmer gathering saturday at the oakland education associations office.. where educators and supporters channeled their inner artistic side.a smaller crowd but a larger message..through paint, signs and banners..this after friday's one day sick out,where hundreds of oakland teachers rallied in front of the school district's headquarters..demanding higher pay, smaller class sizes and more resources for students.

( marty ) americans are drinking less alcohol. that's according to a beverage market analysis company. the company says americans guzzled 3-and a half billion cases of beer, wine, and a decline of close to one- per-cent. 2018 was the third year in a row that alcohol consumption decreased in the u-s. the analysis shows the biggest decline was among beer drinkers. it was down one-and a half percent. the company says wine and spirits are more popular -- gaining in sales for 24 years straight. ( marty ) in national news...a video on social media shows a group of kentucky high school students mocking a native american elder. this video from friday's in-digenous people's march in washington was posted on instagram.. it shows what looks to be a teen, wearing a "make america great again" hat, staring at an older man who is drumming. other young people surround the two, jeering and chanting. activists say the drummer is an elder from the omaha tribe. an organizer for the march called what happened extremely disrespectful to native americans everywhere.

weekend three people--one of them with a gun, broke into a home and hurt a child. kron4's dan thorn reports, police believe the trio may be connected to a crime spree. new surveillance video shows the moments before a freightening home invasion. police say on the morning of january 12th these three would-be robbers broke into a home in piedmont..and threatened a child and his father..sot: they confronted the nine year old who answered the front door. one of the suspects pushed the nine year old to the ground..piedmont police captain chris monahan says the dad overheard the commotion upstairs and confronted the 3 criminals.. sot: one suspect displays a firearm tells the father not to move..while holding up the father--the other two rummaged through the house..minutes later all 3 seen running from the home but police say these three are wanted for other bay area crimes..sot: an armed carjacking in berkeley, several burglaries in oakland, some other theft crimes in

oakland and hayward. the captain says they are also suspects in some thefts in san francisco. with help from other surveillance cameras in piedmont--police were able to find the vehicle the criminals used to get away last weekend-- but there was nothing in it.. however, police are confident they will find who is responsible for these crimes.. ( marty ) a target employee in the north bay is recovering after being punched in the face by a suspected shoplifter. it happened friday night at the petaluma store near highway 101. police have released these surveillance images of the suspect. they tell us that the man concealed some items in his pants and tried to leave the store. when an employee tried to detain him, the man dropped the merchandise and punched the empoyee. that worker suffered a minor injury
