association says almost half of american adults have some type of heart disease. here's steve nannes with today's health minute. many americans are not heart healthy.a new report by the american heart association says that 48-percent of americans, or more than 121 million adults, have some type of cardiovascular disease, or cvd.the condition is defined as coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, or high blood pressure and is the leading cause of death in the u.s. and around the world.more than 840,000 americans died from cvd in 2016, an increase over the previous year.that is partly due to a change in the way high blood pressure is defined.people are now classified as hypertensive if their blood pressure is 130 / 80 or above. the previous threshold was 140 / 90.

however, doctors say eight in ten cases of cvd can be prevented and that americans need to do a better job of managing high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol symptoms, getting enough sleep, and maintaining a healthier lifestyle.there is some good news from the report. smoking rates are down and more people are getting at least a little bit of exercise. for today's health minute, i'm steve nannes. the new england patriots and los angeles rams are getting ready to square off at mercedes-benz stadium in atlanta for the super bowl.. both starting quarterbacks in the game are from the bay area. tom brady is going for his 6th super bowl win and jared goff is seeking his first. goff was only 7-years-old when brady won his first super bowl with the patriots back in 2002 --- against the then saint louis

brady... but another patriots star grew up on the peninsula... and he is one of the most productive postseason receivers of all time... here's kron 4's kate rooney with the story. when it comes to the postseason, julian edelman is in elite company. only jerry rice has more postseason receptions. the patriots drafted him in the seventh round, after stints playing quarterback for college of san mateo and kent state. but it all began at woodside high, near edelman's hometown of redwood city. and edelman's high school coach said none of his success has come as a surprise.steve nicolopolous says: "if you tell him he can't do this, he does it. if you tell him he's too slow, he becomes fast. if you tell him he's too s short to be a quarterback, he's gonna prove you wrong. and he did that, and he might have gone a different route than most people, but he was able to go out and accomplish what he set out to do, which is something that's very unique in this day and age."unique enough that edelman has become something of a teaching tool for the current generation of woodside

fans all get ready for the super bowl later this afternoon. there are several bay area players in the big game --- including the quarterbacks for both team's. ( marty ) one of the quarterbacks in today's game is jared goff, his football career started at marin catholic. and he's done a lot in such a short time... from cal...to the top overall pick in the nfl draft. and now, he's the face of the franchise for the rams. we caught up with goff's high school coach, mazi moayed, who told kron 4 of the time he found out goff received an offer from the university of alabama. "alabama ended up calling. and we're about to play in the section finals against a talented el cerrito team at the time. so i came to practice and i didn't want to be a distraction or distract him and coach nesmyer called. he was the offensive coordinator there at the time. i said hey, you won;t believe

for an atlanta-area businessman accused of swindling nfl fans out of more than $750,000 in super bowl ticket orders. the alleged victims reportedly include his own mother, whom authorities say gave him money but never received tickets to sunday's big game between the l.a. rams and new england patriots. ketan shah, of lawrenceville, ga., allegedly scammed at least five victims in gwinnett county, then vanished with the money and without delivering the tickets. shah's mother told police her son left with $36,000 she gave him for super bowl tickets, cpl. wilbert rundles, a spokesman for the gwinnett county police department, told the station. "the money totals well over three-quarters of a million dollars," rundles said. "it is pretty surprising when you would take advantage of a friend or family members, but your own mother? it's quite troubling."

five different cars. the crash happened at 2:30 this morning when a driver in a vw gti was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on 101 in san francisco. the driver side swipped two cars near the vermont street on ramp. the vw gti kept going and hit an suv head on. the wrongway driver was ejected on to the northbound lanes and died on scene. then three more cars tried to stop in time but collided and crashed into the original crash. another person also died on scene but chp hasnt said which car that person was in. this is a very complex crash since it involves so many people and cars. chp suspects the wrong

are closed near the silver avenue exit in san francisco. 11 people impacted by this in five different cars. the crash happened at 2:30 this morning when a driver in a vw gti was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on 101 in san francisco. the driver side swipped two cars near the vermont street on ramp. the vw gti kept going and hit an suv head on. the wrongway driver was ejected on to the northbound lanes and died on scene. then three more cars tried to stop in time but collided and crashed into the original crash. another person also died on scene but chp hasnt said which car that person was in. this is a very complex crash since it involves so many people and cars. chp suspects the wrong way driver was under the

police say around 11:30 they responded to the store after a report of a carjacking..they found one employee had been shot in the leg and a car áwasá stolen. an unidentified man apparently walked up to two employees and fired his gun at one of them while stealing a car. some people who live nearby were concerned to hear about what happened.. sot: that's kinda crazy probably some like deranged person. i would like to assume that he could be caught soon you know. arriving officers quickly helped the injured employee and later took him to the hospital.detectives are indentify this gunman. who was shot is expected to ( marty ) that was dan thorn reporting. a store manager confirmed the shooting but would not comment any further. arianna fitts went missing three years ago this month...she was last seen in oakland. arianna's mother, nicole fitts, was found murdered and buried in a mclaren park in san francisco. the f-b-i believes that arianna was not with nicole when she was killed. authorities are asking anyone with more information to to call s-f-p-d. ( marty ) a drive by shooting in north stockton sent one teen to the hospital. police say that area has been crime plagued for years. according to investigators the unknown suspects shot the boy through his bedroom window -- with other people also inside the apartment at the time. the teenage victim is recovering in the hospital and is expected to survive. police says residents are not cooperating with the investigation.
