that breaking news we're following this morning...an earthquake reported near yountville. it happened just before two this morning. the u-s-g-s says the 3 point 7 magnitude quake was centered just over four miles southwest of yountville. we've had no reports of any injuries nor damage. ( marty ) breaking overnight...investigators are looking into the cause of a small fire outside the tesla plant in fremont. firefighters contained a fire shortly after it stared at 9 last night. the fire was contained to a small storage area outside of

the building. firefighters say the fire involved hazardous materials. but, there was no threat to the public. the cause of the fire is unknown. ( marty ) happening tomorrow....caltrans will start on the permanent fix for the richmond san-rafael bridge. it got pushed back a week because of the rain. kron 4's sara stinson is joining us now live with what you can expect over the next few days. sara. we braved the storm - now caltrans can get to work on fixing the expansion joint that failed over a week ago.as crews waited out the storm - drivers have had to trust this eight foot steel plate installed as a temporary fix for the deteriorating expansion joints on the bridge's upper deck.as you recall - this was installed after huge chunks of concrete started falling from the upper deck forcing the shutdown of the bridge, which resulted in major gridlock for nine hours.

the permanent replacement project is planned for ten overnight work shifts starting tomorrow.work will happen from 9 p-m until 4 a-m ... with little impact to traffic expected..one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during construction. caltrans says the fix will take 2-weeks to finish, but fortunately it won't be impacting drivers during the bulk of the morning commute. live in san rafael, sara stinson, kron four news. representing 3-thousand teachers wants smaller class sizes, more counselors, full-time nurses and a 12-percent raise over three next years. but the district has offered 5-percent. kron 4's gayle ong explains what this means for students and parents. nat sound strike for the future of public education in oakland cheers keith brown president of the oakland education association announcing all 3000 members will go on strike feb 21 sot: today we are united with oakland kids... this comes one day after a fact finding report with the union and the district the two sides have been negotiating for nearly two years, the union wants smaller class sizes, more counselors, full time nurses and a 12 percent raise over the next three years. the district counter offered a 5 percent raise and says they want educators to be paid well, but the budget is tight

this morning, there are hidden dangers that come with e- cigarettes and vaping. meredith wood has more in today's health minute. two people have died as a result of malfunctioning e-cigarettes in as many years... bringing the potential dangers of these devices, specifically explosions and small fires, back to the public's attention. keith bryant/ u.s. fire administrator: "it's the battery itself that we're concerned about from a safety perspective. lithium-ion batteries because of their composition and they way that they do generate power, do tend to generate a lot of heat as well."the batteries are stored in cylinder casings at the end of the device. the

( marty ) a developing story we're following this morning...attorneys for jussie smollet are responding after new evidence suggests the attack was a hoax. sources told cnn that chicago police believe smollett paid two men to orchestrate the assault. the "empire" star said he was attacked on january 29th by two men who were "yelling racial and homophobic slurs." he said one attacker put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him. two brothers were arrested wednesday --- then released friday after chicago police cited the discovery of "new evidence." on saturday police said that the new information has "shifted the focus of the in a statement to cnn, smollett's

officials call for a local state of emergency..heavy machiny is moving around boulders to help restore a levee washed away in last weeks storms..highway 37 in the westbound direction remains closed as water from novato creek has spilled over.. the marin county administrator is recommending the board of supervisors ratify the state of emergency at a special meeting on tuesday. this could help the county get either state or federal aid to reimburse costs of infrastructure repairs and other expensesthe money would also help with storm damage from mudslides and toppled trees in sausalito. the boulevard where a mudslide destroyed two homes has been forced to close..crews worked to clear up the debris saturday.the city reports the boulevard seems to be undamaged. however, engineers will have to carefully evaluate the area to make sure there is no more potential danger. the city estimates it will not be open to traffic for at least another week. a special meeting to declare a local emergency in sausalito is scheduled for monday..

( marty ) vigils are being planned for the victims of a workplace shooting in suburban chicago. fivpeople were killed when a co-worker opened

"i said 'come on, let's go,' so i starting pulling him to go and get in the car, and they both stopped, and looked again, and then i heard a faint whimper." that's when he saw the small black dog that he and the owner of the missing dog had been looking for. chatten, who knew the owner was on the other side of the island, headed straight for the water. samantha kelly posted photos of the dramatic-looking rescue. she shared the pictures to facebook, which have gone viralthe dog's name is jackson, according to his owner. he says jackson may have run into the water thinking the ice was solid. jackson was taken to the veterinarian to be treated for hypothermia. after staying there overnight, the pup was released on friday.pictures show chatten in the creek, with water waist-high, carrying jackson to the shore. he says he hardly thought twice about going into the icy water."at first, i was like 'okay, what do i do?' i was kind of panicked a little bit. but once i got down there, i said...well, it's the dog or me getting a little wet," chatten said of his bold decision.jackson's owner is now trying to get in touch with that hero to thank him. chatten says he looks forward to meeting again under calmer

crash were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. denver police are blaming the crash on the weather and not any one driver. and because of that--- police issued no tickets to anyone involved. ( marty ) people in wisconsin are used to the snow. and they've got plenty of it after the recent storms over the last week. people in one community took advantage of the conditions for a unique sporting event. smowmobile softball is just what it sounds like --- a combination of a day at the ball park and at the races. here's how it works: a batter steps up to the plate, with a snowmobile waiting on the first base line. they get a hit and jump on the snowmobile to try and get on base. the outfeilds are also on snowmobiles --- trying to chase down flballs.

( marty ) new this morning...police in vallejo are investigating a deadly shooting. it happened last night just after 11 in the 800 block of curtola pakway. the victim died at a hospital. police have not released the identity of the victim and there's no word of any arrests. that failed over a week ago.as crews waited out the storm - drivers have had to trust this eight foot steel plate installed as a temporary fix for the deteriorating expansion joints on the bridge's upper deck.as you recall - this was installed after huge chunks of concrete started falling from the upper deck forcing the shutdown of the bridge, which resulted in major gridlock for nine hours. the permanent replacement project is planned for ten overnight work shifts starting tomorrow.work will happen from 9 p-m until 4 a-m ... with little impact to traffic expected..one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during construction. caltrans says the fix will take 2-weeks to finish, but fortunately it won't be

too.chatten says the dogs alerted him to look down at the water at ellicott island bark park on thursday."my dog milo, he stopped and looked down at the water. i thought he was looking at a duck, or a bird, or something of that nature," chatten said. remains closed as water from novato creek has spilled over.. the marin county administrator is recommending the board of supervisors ratify the state of emergency at a special meeting on tuesday. this could help the county get either state or federal aid to reimburse costs of infrastructure repairs and other expensesthe money would also help with storm damage from mudslides and toppled trees in sausalito. the boulevard where a mudslide destroyed two homes has been forced to close..crews worked to clear up the debris saturday.the city reports the boulevard seems to be undamaged. however, engineers will have to carefully evaluate the area to make sure there is no more potential danger. the city estimates it will not be open to traffic for at least another week. a special meeting to declare a local emergency in sausalito is scheduled for monday.. ( marty ) recently there has been a lot of news about the dangers driving to the sierra during snow storms. and an

incident in colorado saturday demonstrates why. 17 people were hurt in this á49 vehicle pile-up. it happened near the denver airport last night. all 17 people hurt in the crash were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. denver police are blaming the crash on the weather and not any one driver. and because of that--- police issued no tickets to anyone involved. ( marty ) in tennessee -- shocking video shows the moment an s-u-v hit a rockslide... take a look --- the s-u-v hits the rocks and dirt in the road then goes airborne --- crashing into a police car.. this is dashcam video from the bristol, tennessee police department. the officer was responding to reports about the rockslide which was partially blocking the road. one officer was treated for minor injuries. the driver of the s-u-v refused medical treatment. ( marty ) people in wisconsin are used to the snow. and they've got plenty of it after the recent storms

over the last week. people in one community took advantage of the conditions for a unique sporting event. smowmobile softball is just what it sounds like --- a combination of a day at the ball park and at the races. here's how it works: a batter steps up to the plate, with a snowmobile waiting on the first base line. they get a hit and jump on the snowmobile to try and get on base. the outfeilds are also on snowmobiles --- trying to chase down fly balls. ( marty ) they say the only dangerous part of the event is to players' wallets. if they're not careful... fielders and baserunners can collide their snowmobiles and that's an error that would cost players around 10 thousand dollars to fix. the annual tournament is used to raise money to maintain local snowmobile trails.
