9:36 am
>>and we are investigating some conspiracy. components to that case that is giving us the confidence that this is not a hate crime. the conspiracy being a similar incident reported on the same street back in 2015 where rocks were thrown through 3 home windows. >>brown was never charged for the crimes, but now the sheriff's office is looking into it. many addison is among the recent victims and lives next door to brown we never had no problems anything like >>well been a good neighbor and a good friend, but. >>i don't know i don't know what's going on brown's bail is set at $80,000 felipe shut all kron 4 news. the fbi found the gun that was stolen from in oakland, it's a ast month semiautomatic rifle along with a loaded magazine and a jacket with official fbi markings all of them stolen. >>from the special agents car in the parking lot of the hague and burger shopping center. the agency offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of those items. the fbi said in a

budget includes nearly 1 billion in funding for emergency preparedness and response like helping people deal with such events like the recent earthquake spoke here in the bay area. >>and that one in southern california powerful enough to shake these large vehicles back and forth. >>the 911 system as we know it today was established in 1973. the technology is outdated the technology. laiza lee can be referred to is analog technology. it predates the internet. they're about 437 other call centers like this. well for 38. in the state of california which is an extraordinary number. the reality is they don't. have the technology. they don't have the tools to connect. they don't have the cup cassidy to redirect call volume if something goes wrong. the governor along with mayor london breed took a tour of san francisco's office emergency services. >>911 call center. it's so

much. >>that we can do to make it even better and having the funding necessary to invest in new technologies so that text messaging and all the things that we do now to communicate are used in a way to address any situation whether there's a wildfire or heat advisory or all of the different challenges that sadly we've had to endure. we want to be prepared. >>the governor says the upgrade to the technology will be funded by the state but he will also require some additional funds from individuals theresa kron 4 news. >>and the fog still hanging around the golden gate bridge dave has the forecast coming
9:44 am
>>welcome back to kron 4 morning news, good morning, everybody and the fog still lingering a little round sfo, no delays going on this morning but we can still see it off to the distance there just to touch a also retreating a bit the shot from timber on at least we get a lot more coverage of all the greenery and the hills in the background, but still some fog lingering at the golden gate just a touch. here's what's going on with the winds. we have a little bit of an on shore wind just a touch in the single digits. however, later today we expect a little bit of uptick in some of those inland valleys being driven local winds. but the daytime heating this is not the on shore winds that we've had from last week's we're not going to a lot of climate control benefit from that. but
9:45 am
it's just the daily occurrence that happened so a little bit of a breezy afternoon but battling the fires but beyond that they're not to be some not the quins to look out for going to be plenty hot. 100 plus expected for central valley today and some of those far east bay reaches potentially in the 90's. 70 around san francisco, 67 for monterey, 77 allie x san diego at 82, let's get to the 4 zone forecast see what's going on 70 for san francisco. the coast into the 60's here we have some lingering fog a touch. peninsula side little warmer in the 70's as you'll notice an upper 70's to some 80's to the south. redwood city 83. palo alto 8680 from mountain view and the south bay you're looking 92 for morgan hill, 86 for san jose and also for cupertino he's bay shoreline upper 70's lower 80's tri valley lower 90's for today 90 for pleasanton livermore 9188 dublin, 92 for walnut creek with 76 for oakland 73 for berkeley, 91 back up to sonoma and look out

for vacaville 97 the high today, the cooldown 74 92 going on for santa rosa 89 for petaluma in the 70 forecast we do get some of those onshore winds back again. weather pattern changes just enough bring some cloud innings class cloudy some cloudy conditions a little bit early in the week and temperatures fall that's pretty good lower 80's for early april or early you're going be our stan why mix that up there ok marty over the 4 well anyway thank you dave. well for your health this morning, many athletes and some older adults also supplement their diet with protein powders to build and maintain muscle. >>and other health reasons as well and as those people take those is a convenient on the go meal as well but we're asking nor wondering is really safe or isn't even necassary. our health expert karen on joins me this morning to talk more about this. this this is such big business you see them everywhere how her and they do
9:47 am
promise just about everything they do great marketing yeah, that advertising sucked into so what. >>is the basis of these protein powders. proteins from eggs milk as well as from plan so those are the 3 main components company. ok, yes, yeah. >>i'm so you know we're looking at plants and a lot of them have. cars are snake that's in the soils those tend to be a little bit heavier on the on the medals, you know they're just not they're not regulated by the fda so that's the big issue here is that the fda does not regulate these powders. >>i'm up and so so what does that mean that means that they. to test them to be safe for one. >>they're not required to prove that what's in them is in so you really and be sure
9:48 am
what you're getting so this really is a case of buyer beware because if they ever time that they can do what uppsr hand they don't have to prove it. they don't know you know. yes and that's what they mean by it's not regulated by fda price was changed in 1994 when clinton signed the dietary supplement and health indication act. so all this changed if fda has no control over the supplements the team also the fda used to use control what was in the supplement. yes, yes, you have that too follow the same way do the regulations as what's in so but not anymore under the so-called still high. supplements put them on the market again. you know, and i could to get exactly so again it just shows just that this is the wild west when we're talking about that these powders and the yeah that so you really have to be careful out a lot of them have.
9:49 am
>>added sugars. >>added sugars some as much as 6 table teaspoons of added sugar in that. >>the limit. daily limit of sugar in what could be taken in one joining one 11 time some people drink more than one and dose of the supplement they might take it several times a day so that's a lot of sugar could really is and it can be a lot of calories too depending on type the supplement you're taking one of these powders promise i mean let's let's talk about gamut here with what are some of the things that well. admission all-pro team so can build muscle. okay can maintain bone. density yeah. know really. in the supplements to me don't know where they get their sources right that's something you need to investigate before you actually and these things >>i understand that there was a there is a recent study that

looked to some of these powers what did it find so they found a lot of heavy metals that were in these this came out and just last year. so lead 7070% to 75% of the east detectable levels is that dangerous. well see with detectable levels doesn't necessarily mean. >>so we have to take this into context so you know just so you are aware that things because there's detectable amounts of lead in our spin it. so see we have just to be fair to the supplement manufactures yeah, we have to. >>some other some other members i'm reading here arsenic mercury pesticide found in these supplements correct that's correct in detectable amount right. it's really box which really talking it. a few years ago they came up a lot of people were getting sick on vitamin
9:51 am
supplements, yeah, because of detectable the heart of the heavy metals than ever and heavy metals, you know in small amounts their excreted in the urine the hobbit in larger amounts, you know you if you don't expect them to get they just taken in your system get into your tissues and your bone in your blood and they stay there for a long time i always say that whatever you put in your mouth. becomes a party you write is exactly and obviously the more you take more big it becomes a part of yet. like why did these proteins and supplements contain so many different contaminants. they absorb it through the soil. i see so that's why even in our plant food. we get our snakelike arsenic in rice right. they weren't as high because of the fact that the animals actually absorb some of those tell i say yeah. we don't that yeah. generally
9:52 am
speaking to people need protein powder. nick actually no that's why you know weiss it was they take the risk because you can really get you know you we need that much protein not as much as people think they do maybe for amanda 160 pounds maybe 55 to 95. grams of protein you can easily get some of that just some plant proteins. i happen. a cup of beans. lentils that so you're scared. you're already at 46 point yeah and there's a lot less to worry about exactly yeah. karen thank you so much you're welcome for opening our eyes about this will be right back.
