ok dave thanks a lot. well for your health this morning, the paleo diet or the caveman diet is in popularity with claims that. >>it's very healthy and promote weight loss but we're wondering does it really we asked our health expert karen o aka to talk about it she's here to explain how the paleo diet can actually impact our overall health, it seems like the this is the newest fat. >>it is yeah and this actually has taken hold in seems to be sticking around for a while it is, but this new study that came out really kind of blows everything out of the white so paleo was short for what haley holistic several new pay deal lives. so it kind it the people that are and the kids of this particular diet. yeah, us i think that humans should be eating thing set a man not include seeing set worth are farmed it has that this wasn't the way it was but of course some think that. it just has not. adapted to a modern man

die after all these thousands of years yet. all right so a typical paleo menu would be what meet lot of me it's a lot of meat and fish. with some fruit and vegetables as well as butter grass-fed butter things like that. one of the good things about it it it excludes processed meats highly sugars riley processed and said that sugars but they still use other kind of shares ok, yeah. so so that's the less the positive as far as you're concerned is that no processed foods exactly yes. >>what is the link with paleo and heart disease so that's what you really want know. >>different things not first of all it's a high in saturated fat. so when you look at reflect. yes, you look at the diet. they're eating it m be twice the amount of saturated fat. normal person
9:49 am
what they're excluding are whole grains so they're approaching sources they're all from animals icing not from we know about issues with that so it's not coming from plant based protein. the other thing that they found in this study is that. they found this blood biomarker that's linked to heart disease and was twice as high and people that follow the paleo diet for they're looking that we're following it for over a year. and that is really serious back in 2017 and they did another study on this and they found dead 62% of the people that had this biomarker that it's called 62% high higher risk of dying from. from 62% 2% higher. of dying from heart disease cause this he was elevated.
9:50 am
>>so what does that tell you about this diet. >>it's not feel right. if you know, i'm always promoting plant based china get as much plant based foods as possible right. but when you're eating like this and you know you may not be eat technically or officially on the paleo diet but if you're eating foods that are mostly animal products and not enough whole grains kind of you're going to see these changes as well, ye and allan it. your risk of being your gut biome it gets it totally phone off. and that's the series. >>how the proponents of this are the people who advocate this how do they how they respond to that. >>i think that this diet is good for their gut biome there got health but in this study shows it's exactly it is that exactly the opposite. they're
9:51 am
going defend because it's it's pointing to that's from the heart this bad for the gut saw both those saying as well. >>but let's talk about the good for second what what happens when microbes in our intestines are out of whack. a few things you know we have good good bacteria that bacteria and right at all those things so it can throw transmitters for one, i mean those neurotransmitters. are formed in the gut and and they go to the brain it you could gain weight your blood cholesterol levels could olaf. a lot of negative health effects yeah, so what what would you what would you recommend in terms of the ideal eating plan. >>so trying to get in. >>reduce your your intake of those animal proteins, especially those high in saturated fats. yeah.
9:52 am
including whole grains, it's not a good idea to exclude food, it's you know you're more inclusive in terms of healthy much so because when you exclude a certain food groups like that echo nutrient like whole grains, yeah, then your buddies going to create it, they know it physiologically releases hormones so that you crave those think that your body needs to a process. >>well, it's important information for those of you who are thinking of maybe going caveman or k woman you might think back. lowe's knows you're the powerhouse who does it right. who knows the right tool has no equal. as the leader in outdoor power equipment,
