the news today and happening today another chance for people in berkeley to prepare their homes for an evacuation in case of a wildfire. kron four's christina tape cho joining us live now in the berkeley hills with more on this timely city land evacuation drill, i christina. >>well good morning, this timely. lead evacuation drills happening this morning between 09:10am for all of those who are signed up with the city and fire departments alert system. so it's going to be between 9 in 10 this morning and this is one way that fire officials and the city want to make sure that you're prepared in case of an emergency, especially a wildfire want show go ahead and show you exactly where those areas are going to be happening the areas of this. drill. they are optional but they'll be happening on the borders of berkeley contra costa county border. spruce street, the park as well as u c berkeley. now berkeley city managers and fire officials say to prepare for potential fire. there are

3 big steps you can take in this is for anyone at home even if you're not here in the berkeley area. first and foremost plan and prepare didn't sign up for all of the a local evacuation notices through the city and fire department and again that goes through each each city that you may live in. now secondly practice make sure to plan in about an evacuation order for you your family and loved ones or anyone you live with by foot or by car make sure you have both options there and thirdly be aware avoid dry areas and also hills, especially on red flag days. this is one way this evacuation order. they're doing today between 9.10 is just another way to prevent devastating damage. it can happen because of wildfires for an exam plea for an example, this is another way we can keep our eyes and making sure something doesn't happen happened like the berkeley hills. in the berkeley hills area after that large fire in the 90's. the east bay hills fire happened in october of 1991 on hillside on the hillsides of northern oakland and southeastern berkeley lasted almost a week killing 25 people pretty a 150

broken car pieces all over a man is dead after what police believe is a hit and run crash in south san jose police were called to the intersection of santa teresa boulevard and san ignacio avenue just after 3 30 saturday morning. >>the victim an adulmale s driving a volkswagen facade was turning westbound santa teresa boulevard from northbound san ignacio avenue police say he was struck by a driver of a dodge ram laramie pickup truck at the intersection i heard a crash and it woke me up. jesse us prince's home surveillance video captured police canvassing the neighborhood armed with flashlights looking for the driver who ran away from the scene there's been a couple accidents in a couple years with that hair. >>president complained this intersection is like a speedway i worry about especially night. i'm going through because a lot of people do run the red light going down senate race because the straight away from a lot of people actually a spend their tires to take off from the intersections because of that as well. >>and neighbors count yet another crash what they call a

dangerous street live on the sky and hit from people trying to turn left. >>on this entry said i'm going straight so. probably like 3 or 4 times. >>the name of the victim has not yet been released police are urging anyone with information to come forward, reporting in san jose gayle, ong kron 4 news. >>also in the south bay, a 17 year-old girl is in custody, this morning in campbell, she's accused of stabbing 2 other teenagers. police say she stabbed a 19 year-old and a 17 year-old just before midnight on friday on hamilton avenue this is in campbell she later surrendered to police the 19 year-old was released from the hospital saturday morning. the 17 year-old however is still hospitalized, suspect being held in juvenile hall on suspicion of 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon. san francisco police have released new information about their a police vehicle that hit and injured 2 people before it smashed into a bus shelter in japan town.

according to the sfpd an unmarked police vehicle hit a police officer and a burg lisa burglary suspect that he was chasing it happened about 5 30 saturday evening near the intersection of geary and webster take a look at video from the scene sent to us by a kron 4 of you are. police say the suspect was hit. and that was hit has life threatening injuries, the injured officers also being treated for less serious injuries. and police haven't yet revealed the cause of this and what caused the and martin vehicle to crash. a second car burglary suspect was arrested at the scene. coming up on kron 4 news weekend police are looking for the gunman who shot at a driver on a bay area highway will hear from the victim coming up. and we'll take you to to a community at celebrating a milestone after they were affected by the tubbs fire. it has been 2

years since the coffey park neighborhood was devastated by the tubbs fire. but on saturday they celebrated a construction milestone in santa rosa. the celebration marked the completion of the hopper walls project and kron four's felipe gaulle reports on the community effort that's helping rebuild an important part of coffee park. >>the strength of the community and body by the sturdy wall once again standing tall ironically symbolizing unity. >>and not a divider i lost my home and the tubbs fire one of 1300 homes in santa rosa's coffey park neighborhood level during that fire 2 years ago this october, any barbour has since rebuilt her house along hopper avenue one of 42 homes connected to a barrier wall that burned down in the fire. initially she and the rest of her neighbors thought they'd have to foot the bill for a replacement since it stood on private property costs and to each of the homeowners minimum would have been about 18 to

this past may 51 attorneys general sent this letter to education secretary betsy devos essentially telling her that the current process is so complicated. it puts a quote insurmountable obstacle on many disabled veterans. >>for a service member excuse me in veteran may not be as computer savvy. it can be very very difficult. >>president trump got the message. he's ordered the education department to make it easier for disabled veterans to apply. >>altogether this actually will wipe that an average of $30,000 in debt owed by more than 25,000 eligible veterans this is fantastic. it's a an amazing accomplishment. >>lo says it's now up to the department of education to make sure veterans know about the faster forgiveness process we need to rely on. >>department of education department of veteran affairs to. absolutely push a marketing campaign advertising awareness campaign they're still no word on exactly how the new process will work.
