the news today and happening today another chance for people in berkeley to prepare their homes for an evacuation in case of a wildfire. kron four's christina tape cho joining us live now in the berkeley hills with more on this timely city land evacuation drill, i christina. >>well good morning, this timely. lead evacuation drills happening this morning between 09:10am for all of those who are signed up with the city and fire departments alert system. so it's going to be between 9 in 10 this morning and this is one way that fire officials and the city want to make sure that you're prepared in case of an emergency, especially a wildfire want show go ahead and show you exactly where those areas are going to be happening the areas of this. drill. they are optional but they'll be happening on the borders of berkeley contra costa county border. spruce street, the park as well as u c berkeley. now berkeley city managers and fire officials say to prepare for potential fire. there are

3 big steps you can take in this is for anyone at home even if you're not here in the berkeley area. first and foremost plan and prepare didn't sign up for all of the a local evacuation notices through the city and fire department and again that goes through each each city that you may live in. now secondly practice make sure to plan in about an evacuation order for you your family and loved ones or anyone you live with by foot or by car make sure you have both options there and thirdly be aware avoid dry areas and also hills, especially on red flag days. this is one way this evacuation order. they're doing today between 9.10 is just another way to prevent devastating damage. it can happen because of wildfires for an exam plea for an example, this is another way we can keep our eyes and making sure something doesn't happen happened like the berkeley hills. in the berkeley hills area after that large fire in the 90's. the east bay hills fire happened in october of 1991 on hillside on the hillsides of northern oakland and southeastern berkeley lasted almost a week killing 25 people pretty a 150

broken car pieces all over a man is dead after what police believe is a hit and run crash in south san jose police were called to the intersection of santa teresa boulevard and san ignacio avenue just after 3 30 saturday morning. >>the victim an adulmale s driving a volkswagen facade was turning westbound santa teresa boulevard from northbound san ignacio avenue police say he was struck by a driver of a dodge ram laramie pickup truck at the intersection i heard a crash and it woke me up. jesse us prince's home surveillance video captured police canvassing the neighborhood armed with flashlights looking for the driver who ran away from the scene there's been a couple accidents in a couple years with that hair. >>president complained this intersection is like a speedway i worry about especially night. i'm going through because a lot of people do run the red light going down senate race because the straight away from a lot of people actually a spend their tires to take off from the intersections because of that as well. >>and neighbors count yet another crash what they call a

wildfire. kron four's christina tape cho joining us live now from berkeley with more on this very timely city led evacuation drill. i'm christina. >>hey good morning to fire crews here in berkeley want to make sure you're prepared in case there's ever a fire actually here in front of one of the fire stations you can see fire crews in law enforcement right behind me they just finish up a briefing this morning because they're sending crews out to start. citywide evacuation happening right now at 09:00am and now they're optional it's for those who signed up for the alerts to alameda county and the fire department in case of a wildfire as well so there if you are one of those people expect some type of alert coming through your phone or possibly a text message to let you know about this roll going on as i mentioned they are optional but they'll be happening on the borders of berkeley contra costa county spruce the park as well as u c berkeley kind of going into that berkeley hills area. now the berkeley city managers and fire officials they all say

they want ever to be prepared for potential fire and if you are prepared for they want to give you the steps to make sure you're prepared so going to take a listen to one of the fire chiefs we spoke with he gives you those right now. >>signing up or whatever. not the case system your particular county offers in alameda county it's a c alert. 1610 radio we also get messages out on. and another way is to or not to receive masters but to be prepared is to have a go bag have everything ready to go at a moment's notice like 5 minutes notice. and then practice ways to get out of your neighborhood 2 ways by foot and by car. >>now this is the last of 3 drills they did here and the month of august to make sure that the entire berkeley area is prepared in case there is a fire and also they want to make sure that everyone signs up for those alert through their system so if you want any more information on how to sign up for those emergency preparedness alerts or multiple different systems you can use to receive those from your computer and yo phone working to make sure to link up to those over at kron 4 dot

in south san jose police were called to the intersection of santa teresa boulevard and san ignacio avenue just after 3 30 saturday morning, the victim an adult male was driving a volkswagen facade. >>was turning westbound santa teresa boulevard from northbound san ignacio avenue police say he was struck by a driver of a dodge ram laramie pickup truck at the intersection i heard a crash and it woke me up. jesse us prince's home surveillance video captured police canvassing the neighborhood armed with flashlights looking for the driver who ran away from the scene there's been a couple accidents in a couple years we've lived here. >>president complained this intersection is like a speedway i worry about especially night. i'm going through because a lot of people do run the red light going down senate race because the straight away from a lot of people actually a spend their tires to take off from the intersections because of that as well. >>and neighbors count yet another crash what they call a dangerous street live on the sky and hit from people trying to turn left. >>on this entry said i'm going straight so. probably like 3 or 4 times.

>>the name of the victim has not yet been released police are urging anyone with information to come forward, reporting in san jose gayle ong kron 4 news. >>and also in the south bay, a 17 year-old girl is in custody, this morning in campbell, she's accused of stabbing 2 other teenagers. police say she stabbed the 19 year-old and a 17 year-old just before midnight friday on hamilton avenue in campbell. she later surrendered to police the 19 year-old has been released from the hospital that happened yesterday morning but the 17 year-old is still hospitalized. the suspect is being held in juvenile hall on suspicion of 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon. san francisco police have released new information about their police vehicle that hit and injured 2 people before it smashed into a bus shelter in japan town. according to sfpd the unmarked police vehicle hit a police officer and a burglary suspect that he was chasing it happened about 5 30 yesterday evening near the intersection of girion webster

environment is somewhat hostile. the water's warm and that's what hurricanes and tropical systems need in this is the peak of hurricane season. but the environment is dealing with a lot of shear and dry air. the projections see in haiti but notice how it becomes a hurricane drops back down to tropical storm strength that's with a little pocket near the little hole in the middle and then a tropical low as a to it just sets out of haiti and heads up to florida that will be the next stop so that will be monitored all early next week you'll be hearing a lot more about this in the news, lower middle 70's off to the east bay so far 65 delay, whoa, 58 for santa rosa 61, san francisco, the east bay shoreline pretty much following suit, although a couple degrees about that 67 san jose. so we're talking this fog mixing out a story a great job of that already by now but by noon should be handled at the golden gate. warmer inland, too. now a spike in land happening near 100 is expected by tomorrow. we still have some dry air in place we're going to get some

humidity from a tropical system on our coast our on baja california, not much of one its decaying but we'll get some of that moisture up here. 80's will cover the bay tomorrow and 70's for the coast. dropping a little bit as we get into next week here. although humid high clouds for midweek it looks like and then a gradual relaxing of those temperatures getting to the latter portion next week. for highs today mid-nineties cover the far east bay east bay shoreline we get those 80's lined up here still 90 around napa 88 in 73 san francisco and half moon bay about that 7190 san jose, 84 oakland, 73 going on for san francisco. let's project your week ahead now getting hot here on monday. if it's not already hard enough for you today 97 near 100 gradually dropping off this will be some humidity for tuesday wednesday. and then some 80's to finish off a week marty all right dave thanks a lot. new this morning a los angeles county sheriff's deputy has admitted that he was not shot by a sniper and he made up the attack.

>>deputy angel reynoso claimed last wednesday that he was hit in the chest by a sniper as he walked to his car at the sheriff's stations parking lot. he called in the attack on his radio and that prompted a huge hour's long manhunt. officials say however that much of the statement that he gave to investigators just didn't make sense and that there were no bullets recovered from the scene. >>he also told investigators that he had caused the holes in his uniform shirt by cutting it with a knife. there was no sniper. no shots fired and no gunshot injuries sustained to a shoulder. completely fabricated. >>investigators say that rain also has failed to give a reason for making up the sniper attack. so this case will now be handed over to the la district attorney's office who say that so will likely face charges for filing a false police report. a thunder
