that she wants to take this to trial probably. she definitely wants to see everything the government has in her file that helps her prove her case. >> lori and mossimo rejected a deal early on and plead not guilty. if convicted, they could face 45 years in prison. as for the other celebrity caught up in the scandal "desperate housewife" felicity huffman she settled into a post prison life. the actress served only 11 days of her two-week sentence. why? well felicity's team played it smart, accepting an early plea deal apologizing in court and taking advantage of prison policy. >> when you are scheduled to be released on the weekends or a holiday, you can actually be released on the last workday. >> felicity must complete 250 hours of community service, but a lot of legal experts think lori could have learned from felicity. >> in the legal world what lori's been doing these last couple of months is a major head scratcher. many of us cannot understand why she did not take the deal to begin with.

of course lori and felicity weren't the only stars under fire in 2019. >> i've been truful and consistent on every single level since day one. >> "empire" star jussie smollett continues to to deny claims that he staged his own homophobic and racist attack. >> i'm gonna stand strong with y'all. >> jussie was charged and turned himself in to police and then in march a stunning reversal, prosecutors abruptly dropped all charges. >> this is a person now who has been let off scot-free. >> in august a special prosecutor was announced to look into the handling of the case and it's possible he could reinstate the charges. it's also unclear at this point whether or not smollett will appear next year in the series finale of "empire." one certainty -- 201was a tough year for r. kelly. >> y'all are killing me with this. gave you my -- >> robert.

>> the 52-year-old singer has entered not guilty pleas to more than a dozen sex crime charges filed against him in various states. but it was the singer's unhinged interview with gayle king that was one of the most memorable moments of the year. >> this is not about music. i'm trying to have a relationship with my kids and i can't do it. you just don't want to believe the truth. you don't want to believe it. >> oprah called me and said are you okay? are you afraid? i was never afraid. i knew he was upset with me and didn't like some of the questions. >> disgraced matt lauer's divorce became final and a new accuser came forward this year as well. and then we also have cuba gooding jr. in handcuffs. >> cuba, what do you have to say to your fans? >> that was the oscar-winning actor being led by police in june. according to the court documents filed earlier this month, 22 women have now accused cuba gooding jr. of sexual misconduct. the actor vehemently denied the charges. his next hearing is january 22nd.

let's continue with a story that broke our hearts this year. alex trebek stunned everyone when he announced that he has stage 4 cancer. but the beloved "jeopardy" host has also inspired us with his courageous fight. >> i plan to beat the low survival rate. >> it was back in march when alex revealed he was going through chemotherapy. >> keep the faith and we'll win. >> alex trebek! >> the 79-year-old continued to host "jeopardy" and by august he appeared to be in remission. >> i'm on the mend and that's all i can hope for right now. >> but just a month later alex had a devastating setback. the pancreatic cancer had returned. >> i lost about 12 pounds in a week. >> i'm not afraid of dying. >> despite his ongoing battles, the trademark trebek humor is firmly intact. >> it does bother me that i might pass on before i get to have a grandchild. hint hint.
