>>welcome back everyone the time is 7.14 and happy sunday to you let's bring in dave spahr we need to get an update on the sunday forecast a day a good morning rob, good morning, everybody live shot coming in here down the east bay shoreline is what we can see from berkeley and off to the distance there's the bay and the blue skies so fog what fog going on today. hardly any little bit some of the yeah
7:15 am
bally's and the mountains a little bit there but not much of all yes, no delays at sfo as you can see off to a good start there as well those temperatures we just talked about lower 60's lining up the east bay shoreline warming up a little bit inland at 68 for any auction if he's up to the north bay 55 san francisco very refreshing will call at 46 for half moon bay. so a look at what the winds will do later today member or getting that inland heating happening. so that's going to drive this typical local when of onshore looks like a little bit more activity happening in the east bay this go around but certainly covering a good chunk of the bay now that's good news because that helps insulate us from what could be if we did not have that an impact. temperatures will be a lot warmer with all that going on so that helps out a bit. and as we go into actually monday we see it more activity really in the east bay too driven a little bit by inland heating still left over although not as aggressively so because it won't be as hot on monday and that high by the way will start to break down as well so see the footprints of that we can actually see
7:16 am
from the humidity levels it drops off today in the 20's in the 30 shore. now the recovery tonight for tomorrow morning might see some fog coming back again looks like a little bit as we can see these numbers quite high in around the perimeter of the bay 80's 90's that's kind of where they kind of typically are and even this spilling into the inland valleys, a little bit into the afternoon yeah drops off but really 50's 40's percent we can deal with that so it's not as much of a fire threat with higher numbers like this it also shows you the marine layer is coming back or cooling down getting back to somewhat seasonality is what it all tells us so it's much the same for today, sure sunny and hot inland. we'll still see some hundreds out there to be had then for this week, it's sunny and warm and 90's going on in london that's going to be very dramatic drop tomorrow compared to today and saturday and 80's 70's going on in the bay, some 60's returning to the coast. next weekend, minor warming, let's get some 90's back again in some of those inland spots more numerous than we're going
7:17 am
to see for the week ahead, 74 san francisco 79 for oakland, 94 san jose but across the greater real estate look at that we still got those purples out there looks in sacramento valley one oh one antioch 99 for concord 74 the air conditioner spot. 90's meanwhile, good chunk of the north bay appear nap a little warmer today in 19 meanwhile for san jose where does own zoom in a little bit more on that coming up in a bit with your 4 zone forecast marty back to you all right dave thanks lot wall that warm weather the day's been talking here in san francisco sent people flocking to dolores park. >>and that's causing some concern about spreading the coronavirus kron four's jonathan mccall has more. >>and the summer heat wave takes over the bay area temperatures aren't the only things on the rise. so are the number of coronavirus cases across california and as those case numbers continue to climb. there's one group in particular being hit hard they think in a sense of mortality him. >>i hope works out i can't

7:19 am
nearly 50,000 fewer. >>this door and that's how i take care of disinfect everything in my house and had have more people should be were numb i wish they were at dolores park jonathan mccall kron 4 news. >>a former special counsel robert mueller is defending his prosecution of roger stone the washington post posted an op ed from mueller on its web site just last night, the editorial came just one day after president trump commuted stone's sentence. there are long time friends of course in stone worked with the president's campaign mueller notes that stone's conviction on 7 counts remains. he was found guilty of tampering with a witness and obstruction he's also convicted of lying to congress which prosecutors say he did in part to protect the president. now the replacement of his sentence means that stone won't have to go to prison for his crimes. >>happening now in the north bay them are in county fair might be canceled this year,

>>good morning, welcome back of the roof of a 249 year old historic southern california mission was badly damaged in a fire saturday morning. joe benedict has the story. >>from the inside. it's clear there isn't much left at the san gabriel mission as fire tore through the historic building. they heard the sirens during the night blasting by daybreak parishioners flooded the parking lot taking pictures and sending a prayers. such a historical place a lot of memories for me personally, but sure a lot of memories for the whole community. it's so sad. it's like a tragic for the city, it's or jule firefighters were first alerted to the call because of a fire alarm that went off when they arrived they saw smoke coming out of the top left corner and within minutes, the roof was on fire. it's like going into an the heat. >>obviously is very low to the ground and it's a very tenuous situation more than 12 companies from neighboring departments responded. but the
7:25 am
wooden roof quickly gave way forcing everyone outside we have pieces of the structure starting to fall on top of the firefighters, it took 2 hours to get the flames under control and although the roof is destroyed in the pews burned firefighters were able to stop the flames before they reach the altar and the building next door we were able to keep the artifact intact. the museum is intact. the san gabriel mission church has stood in this spot for 215 years it was heartbreaking. >>i will but i have are right on my tears, terry what has worked here for a decade. >>she says the charge never reopen since covid-19 closed its doors instead the mission was renovating at they just refurbished the wooden pews and put them back inside on friday. that despite the loss as expected in a community of faith, those here found a reason for praise we have to just be thankful that building is still up these walls have

7:30 am
be somewhat similar to yesterday however in some spots that we're reaching at 100 or got to 100 may not do so today, so they'll be a little variances and that will give you that in a bit a look at the current winds calm over most of the real estate, but this will pick up it's going to cover most the geography to soar get some of those inland valleys and the east bay shortening up about a lot of relief but it is shielding us from the harder stuff to would naturally happen if it wasn't there. 84 going on 11 o'clock by to work 9 to 5 oh yeah, reaching for 100 and some spots where the 4 zone forecast with a closer inspection the bit marty all right dave thanks a lot. let's go to the north bay this morning where at least 5 people have died at a sandra fell skilled nursing facility after being infected with covid-19. >>kron four's phillipe djegal reports that dozens of residents and staff have also tested positive. >>5 patients that were imposed a queue in sandra fell have died from covid-19 it's unclear when the first patient or staff member at the facility first tested positive

>>the morning robin so this applies to church services as well as outdoor eating so again if you're going go to church today like you mentioned it doesn't start until midnight tonight. so you can still go to church this morning. i know a lot of people are looking forward to that when it comes to outdoor dining you're going to have to wear a mask if you're eating there with the exception of the moment, you put he or drink in your mouth, so this is all an attempt to keep people safe. this is because they've seen an increase in cases throughout the county here now again outdoor activities such as worship services, social practices like protest are still allowed but participants must follow health guidelines for facial coverings and they have to continue social distancing. outdoor dining is still allow that i mentioned people have to make sure they keep those facial coverings on at all times except when they get ready to eat or drink. the
7:34 am
mask should be warned when ordering as well if you're waiting for food, they still want you to wear a mask, the new order also provide some additional guidance to businesses that serve alcohol with meals now another note to add extended family social bubbles they can continue so you can get together with your friends and your loved ones however you have to wear face coverings with exceptions if you guys are all sitting down to eat or drink and again these all go into effect at 00:59pm tonight so most people will not be out and about the starting tomorrow. these guidelines are going to have to go into effect robin i have a feeling we're going to start to see tougher requirements throughout the bay area and other counties as well thank you for the update right now. >>marty. >>let's go to the south bay this morning, a reminder that time is running out for businesses that want to operate under the new health order. they must complete the new online social distancing protocol form before

9:44 am
>>for your health one of the mysteries of covid-19 is why some people who contract the virus have severe symptoms or may even lose their life while others have mild symptoms or none at all our health expert karen along joins me this morning to explain what scientists are beginning to discover about the virus and karen one of those discoveries has to do with our blood sugar levels. >>right the researchers found that lead sugar impacts the immune response to covid-19. they looked at patients in wuhan china they found that those that came in with the highest levels of blood sugar and the worst outcomes it was actually a predictive. factor in them surviving or not.
9:45 am
>>well how is that the blood sugar blood sugar willekes will it impact our immune system in response to covid-19. >>well okay when your body is trying to win your immune system is trying to fight off some type of pathogen it has to strike a balance between increasing the number of anti inflammatory cytokines as well as the pro-inflammatory cytokines these immune cells that help heal and help protect okay, but they find out when blood sugar was involved it created is out of balance situation where the pro inflammatory. immune cells went out of range it became hyperactive and this is what's considered the site a kind store when you have this excessive amount of in the house and what happens is you get excessive inflammation and
9:46 am
tissue damage. and that's why it is so life threatening at this point when you get to this point in the cycle kind storm. we're high-tech demonstration. there really does show. >>exactly what impact the commissioners can have. yes exactly the people that do you have diabetes they're at higher risk. >>we're looking at some of the ethnicities you know they looked at. african americans as well as asian america south asians tend to be at higher risk of dying from coffee coburn of iris. >>by 6 times in the case of south asians do researchers have any idea why that is. >>well they're looking they look at that different ethnicities and they think that possibly they metabolize a blood sugar differently that's why so really important to manage blood sugars yeah. >>and so that really comes
9:47 am
down to our sugar intake how much we're we're bringing into our body right. >>right right and they live actually that further studies in the u.s. looked at people without diabetes so you're not out of the woods if you you don't have diabetes because they found that those people can also have blood sugar spikes that caused overreaction in the mean response so important to be watching diet diets a great moderator of of inflammation. >>well speaking of which are other risks for people who are overweight people who are young we're starting to see more and more covid patients who are in a younger demographic. >>right in that demographic is also lend it doesn't always wear the mask they already feel their little more immune to virus and they're not going to have these really bad responses to the virus but if you are young and healthy and
9:48 am
yet you are overweight and also put you in the category of at higher risk of hospitalization from covid-19. >>but then as your as your graphic here shows that you can have a good weight but still be a also at for dysfunction right. >>right you could have that dysfunctional immune response just like some of the others that also be due the diet that you're following made him more refined carbohydrates that are causing those blood sugar spikes i see ok. >>talking about the immune system and how it's impacted by covid-19. it seems like a lot of this has to do with what you keep coming back to and that is diet and exercise right and that's why the people that have lifestyle diseases that late to diet like the cardiovascular disease like diabetes. >>they do have a higher risk you're trying follow a diet
9:49 am
that inc includes more anti inflammatory foods. these are the triton will avoid saturated fats is animal fats as well as the refined sugars because those are actually inflammatory foods so you want to try to avoid those and increase the ones that slow or so are at breaking down and in the body. those carbohydrates that are our full of fiber those are good help prevent those big sugar spikes and those refined once the cookies a candy's those the ones that are going to increase you know this ties in so well to what we talked about last week and some of the bad habits that we've developed during this covid-19 pandemic. >>and that is just mindlessly sitting by the sofa been jean tv but also been gene. >>cookies potato chips all the things you're talking about. >>yes and that's a habit a lot of people have established during covid-19 and then we talked about that crest a baking which is also eating a
9:50 am
lot of these. refined carbohydrates as of it's you know it's understandable because people are trying to go back to their comfort foods they're very stressed so they tend to want to go to that and then when you're stressed you also tend to have that habit of eating mindlessly sure. >>i know you can do this in your sleep but one tie and one more time, let's go ahead and run through some of the high fiber foods that we should be adding to our diet. >>oates oats are excellent and we're looking at beans berries berries are great in season. they're full of fibers all those little also bananas are a good barley then i am so that people are afraid to eat potatoes but those sweet potatoes are actually very good at full of fiber so those are good sources and one lesson that i've learned from you is that anything green is good.
9:51 am
>>oh let's move let's move on exercise because exercise is another component of this right. >>yes exercises another component because of the fact that when you exercise your body energy and it is going to use those working muscles need blood sugar. >>to perform work. and when you exercise you're going to burn through some of that blood sugar so that's going to help lower your blood i recommend to lead the diabetics or anyone in general has asked you eat try to go for a walk, you know if you want to get that real that sugar spike right after eating and all tied and cut that into a plateau and then bring you back down again. >>one of the thing you talk about is the fact that exercise, especially roebuck exercise will raise her body temperature and that helps as well right. >>it does because of the fact when your body heat set that helps that helps kill some of
9:52 am
those viruses but another great thing about exercises that you are increasing circulation and that means you're increasing the speed in which these antibodies in these white blood cells go through your body and start targeting some of the pathogens that are in use so the exercise is actually a real good way to prevent getting the virus and fighting it off before it has a chance to get farther great. >>all right well thank you for those tips care, it's good to see you. it's good to see you too all right be well. all right guy, let's go ahead take a live look outside to see what the situation is like in walnut creek this morning where it's going to get pretty hot later on today right now traffic moving smoothly. >>on the 6 8024 interchange will
