7:16 am
bay area if we can advance the math here just having a bit of a technical difficulty, we're definitely the visibility if you're going to be driving around this morning, it's not going to be too great we're down to a couple miles and some spots like through nevada, we're looking at about a 3 mile visibility. definitely you're going to be traveling on 1 one san francisco about a 2 mile visibility and you're really socked in at half moon bay, but the positive news said it is going to be clearing as we get closer to noon time you can see that on future cast for it looks like all the fog starting to clear away. we're just going to some coastal fog pretty much. all day long especially for going to be along highway one through the half moon bay area but otherwise we're going to see a lot of sunshine for the rest of you and we're going to some warmer temperatures. this time yesterday. we're pretty much evenly spread and livermore and napa were a couple of degrees cooler. than we were this time yesterday for folks in hayward oakland. but some pretty much the same if you're
7:17 am
waking up with us in mountain view and in san jose 50's and 60's. that's we're looking at right now a 55 in nevada 59 in san francisco and 62 degrees in oakland, currently, but things are set to change once we get into the afternoon hours. we're going to be seeing some hot temperatures, especially in the look at that antioch you'll be at 82 degrees conquered. near 9089 degrees that's we're expecting the high there are lots of sunshine and livermore at hot 92 degree mark. morgan hill you'll be at 89 and then you can see summer bayside communities. a little bit more comfortable more mild 74 in downtown oakland, 70 degrees expected right here in san francisco and then we're looking at some mostly 80's in the north bay nappy will be at 84 and nevado 8473 though, and mill valley, nice and comfortable there. the hot weather is not over we're going to see into tomorrow, it will taper off maybe by a few degrees. but still lots of sunshine to enjoy for the entire weekend. so can get
7:18 am
outside. definitely do so enjoy it. and then we're going to see 90's monday and tuesday of next week inland. but 60's and 70's around the bay and then 60's up the coast and then things will start to cool off a just a bit as we get into the middle of next week for wednesday thursday and friday. that's a look at weather now back to the news. thanks a lot of 7.18 in a big story governor newsom is giving every single school in the state public and private. >>the same requirements for reopening classrooms. >>we are now putting forth guidelines that say schools can physically open. 4 in person education when the county that they're operating in has been off are monitoring list for 14 consecutive days since there is no federal guidance. the governor has issued a universal statewide guidelines for reopening. >>rather than a hodgepodge of decisions from each county and district. here are some of the rules for letting kids back into class the county as you
7:19 am
just heard him say has to be off the watch list for 14 days for schools to reopen masks are required when kids when kids do come back physical distancing has to be enforced. regular testing and dedicated contact tracing has to happen and until schools are able to reopen. there is an emphasis on distance learning everywhere in the bay area of san detail is on the state coronavirus watch list and much of the state to that means more than 80% of california students will be distance learning now kron four's michelle kingston spoke with contra costa county superintendent about what that edict means there. >>this is unprecedented and the situation we're in we are trying to building new school system really school district superintendents across the bay area have been working tirelessly making plans for bold distance learning and for the possibility of students returning to school in the fall at a handle the mask requirements, social distancing guidelines in
7:20 am
classroom cleanliness but on friday governor gavin newsom announced a 5 step statewide plan for safe learning and announced that schools can not reopen until the county they're located and has been off the state's monitoring list for at least 14 days contra costa county is on that list along with 31 other counties across the state i do i really appreciate that we are going to be getting more guidance in one >>on a statewide level that we news on a county county level the governor's plan did not surprised when mackie the contra costa county superintendent of schools. she says she found it helpful and that the districts are just staying in adapting think what's happened today is it's getting better parameters. >>it's getting more concrete parameters of what we need to do. and so everybody knows that they're going to have to start with distance when can we are on the monitoring list mackey is excited for the start of the year but says
7:21 am
contra costa county families must come together to flatten the curve so students can return to school at some point in some way before the end of the year and i'm hoping that as a community the contra costa community we are think that that is so important. we stay home when we can and we wear our masks when we can and we use all those calls. >>why i'm optimistic now. matthew says realistically she doesn't see classrooms returning to full capacity at all this year, but she does believe there will be some sort of face to face learning. but first we have to flatten that curve in contra costa county michelle kingston kron 4 news. >>well in the south bay the governor's plan is also getting praise from officials in the san jose unified school district right now the district says it will begin the year with distance learning and hope that students can start returning to campus perhaps in october. their plan is in line with what the governor announced yesterday district leaders say they're happy that there's now some consistency and clarity.
7:22 am
there's one clear direction directive. saying this is the way it shall be rather than hearing something from the state's something from the county something from the district. parents and teachers in san jose are also on board with the state plan a recent survey found 54% of parents said that they prefer to have a student attend classes at home at least to begin with 81% of teachers also support home learning until the health situation improves. we'll take a quick break time now 7.22 still ahead states are seeing a shortage of coronavirus testing and personal protective equipment all over again and now lawmakers are urging the whit well many people have such a misunderstanding as to how a reverse mortgage works. people think that the bank takes your home, but that is not true. that's absolutely 100% wrong. the home is ours. we can sell it if we want to at any time. i like the flexibility of not having a payment,
7:23 am
but i can make the payment if i want to. you're responsible for keeping up your property taxes and you're responsible for paying your insurance on the property. for us, it was a security blanket. the value of our house, was to fund our long-term health care. these are just a few uses of reverse mortgages. or go online to request your free information kit. without a doubt, one of the best financial tools i've learned about. everybody should be taking a look at it. if they're over 62, they should at least investigate it. for years, reverse mortgage funding has been helping customers
