7:01 am
>>as this continues to play out you see them harnessing up just a few days ago remember those 2 firefighters and the on sunday with the lightning helicopters hovering above and that sparked these fires and then as the video plays longer now we're just looking at i don't know if we'll have a battling the fires and the chance to see if that you hoisted off the hillside. horrible air quality no matter where you live around the bay >>an already dramatic. yeah, this morning. i know i was let's take a look at looks socked in by. like they're just about ready to raise them up. so these 2 >>i think it was smoke maybe firefighters just got caught, you know the winds change and fog to on the golden gate they're stuck. so they're bridge i'm darya folsom, yeah, and i'm james fletcher you're surrounded by fire need to waking up on this saturday morning wondering what the pluck them to safely let them latest is well we're going to safe to safety look yeah, start. >>in the south bay, the seas there's the glow of the fire you august lightning complex that's how close it is let's fire burning near san mateo listen. well let's listen to santa cruz counties in total the flames have burned roughly 63,000 acres and now have forced more than 60,000 people him as he's raised up. and to flee their homes. it is as i mentioned earlier 5% contained this morning at least 97 structures have been that wind. yeah now is it and destroyed with nearly 25,000 then they got him to safety still threatened. and we also and thankfully, those 2 know that 2 people have firefighters are fine, yeah, suffered minor injuries and there are now more than 1100 it's pretty incredible and personnel fighting that fire. john those winds are going to be a factor going forward dry lightning got all these things we have an update just got that are complicating matters for firefighters in the next
7:02 am
earlier this morning from the 24 to 48 hours exactly you south bay. so let's go to reyna harvey. know we're calm right now we're staying that way through >>with the very latest rain a the rest of the weekend we lot of dorian james good will see winds picking up morning and it's nice to be later today. able to share a little bit of >>and then tomorrow into good news with you all at monday dry lightning potential home, the firefighters here now have some containment on returns today, what you're the fire here and that's due noticing as you're waking up at least as of right now is to the weather they had some very poor air quality overnight behind me they just from 6 was a through the east started their morning meeting they had to move locations bay on up into the delta best because they've increased air quality found at the coast personnel here on the fire and so he couldn't feed the other location so they moved up a bit but we're going to show you just because they have that contain it doesn't mean. >>the fire doesn't continue to do some real damage, especially on neighboring communities will look at boulder creek right now you can see the fire ripped through this neighborhood really taking everything that was in its path, we know that it's about 63 acres and that's not really due to growth but the firefighters explain they have a better view of just how big the fire is we know that a 5% contained right now about 24,000 structures still
7:03 am
threatened 97 destroyed and they've increase at personnel to a little over 1500 well, the main concerns are in the coming days, we could see winds pick up we could see more lightning and some increased heat in the area and that would really set them back in terms of everything they've been able to accomplish. we just finished listening to a press conference here led by cal fire is what they had to say about their efforts on the resources assigned coming to this incident. >>so obviously the system is working but it's all about that we put on the moment, the order to be alive and that is just the blew what we're utilizing the agree and the no ground truth in that cell and on the ground. so as we day until it got to the 4 corners find out all 4. >>a new store outside fire. we showed up to see that it's warm apple.
7:04 am
>>well right now in addition to those weather concerns there are also some other concerns they have some people still have not left a lot of the evacuated areas and as a result. the fire personnel had to do several rescues yesterday taking away their personnel from fighting the fire to these rescue missions so they're asking people if they ask you to leave which they've now evacuated over 64,000 people to not come back because you put yourself at risk as well as the personnel out here fighting for now reporting here in scotts valley reyna harvey kron 4 news thanks a lot of rain and we'll check in with you throughout the morning while the santa cruz county sheriff's department is sending an alert. >>for looters that have been targeting empty homes as people leave their homes to evacuate so deputies say 5 people so far been arrested. they were arrested friday on charges including looting grand theft conspiracy to commit crime. and burglary. the suspects targeted homes impacted by this easy

lightning complex fires, there >>and we're back at night 10 on the peninsula. continuing our wildfire coverage now taking a closer >>now let's go to the north bay balance cause the l and look at the damage that we're seeing with the czu fire and you lightning complex fire. it is burn. more than 314,000 the community of ben lawman which is just south of boulder creek. these are the fires that are burning down in the acres in solano sonoma napa santa cruz mountains, several homes and buildings have been lake and yolo counties 5 destroyed here you can see one of them going up. the fire people have died. in that fire continues to rage along highway 9 and highway 34 to 36 for have been injured fighting entire neighborhoocs have been the fires. 480 structures have flattened by this fire and been destroyed and a 125 have despite evacuation orders there are still some homeowners that are insisting been damaged. and there is on staying behind in an still more than 30,000 homes attempt to save their properties. it is pretty much in harm's way right now the all we have. latest update from cal fire >>so we've been sitting here says that this fire in the doing a bunch of work. north bay or complex of fires clearing it all back into is just 15% contained right everything cut back nice and now and for the latest on the firefighting efforts there clean is eerie is scary. let's go. >>live to charles clifford up in sonoma county working to >>cal fire continues to advise tell us chuck what's the everyone inside the evacuation latest. areas to get away as they've >>good morning. yes, so right already had to save some now i'm standing in healdsburg people who are trying to save would sort of sits right in their own homes and again they the middle of the lnu complex the hennessy fires burning off keep saying that pools resources away from the active fire fight itself. >>it's not. still ahead on
7:06 am
to the east and then the more this saturday morning. we've pressing fire for the people who live in healdsburg is the. got more about how we're fighting these fires with the >>walbridge fire which is burning in the mountains to the west and we may have some resources stretched thin what video showing the fire from the governor is doing and asking of the president, so we yesterday afternoon. i believe. >>now this is a big it is basically stretches from lake sonoma in the north all the way down to guerneville along the russian river and the edge of the fire is just a couple of miles to the west of healdsburg burning in the trees and the rough terrain, want restaurants to open? the mountains out there and the other side goes about 12 or a dozen miles or so out. you know the concern there is that could eventually burn all the way to the ocean but the more pressing concern is the city of healdsburg which has not been evacuated, but they're really going to work keeping the wall bridge fire to the west of the dry creek valley dry creek. that's kind of their you know line in the sand where they need to keep those flames on the other side gets across there's nothing between there and healdsburg so again healdsburg has not been evacuated, but people are keeping a very close eye on this. cal fire is bringing additional resources in all
7:07 am
the time they're getting up crews and engines from out of state coming down to help with this fire. they also had quite a few fixed wing aircraft up in the air yesterday a multiple aircraft making water and flame retardant drops around the fire trying to create a perimeter i keep it from burning towards homes, you know they really want to try to get this fire slowed down overnight temperatures drop there's a little more humidity so at the moment, there's no wind it's kind of still right now, but we are expecting throughout the weekend up for higher temperatures, there's an increased fire risk this weekend and also into next week. so there's a lot of concern here about what could happen with this fire. and if the winds were to shift and push it push the fire back towards the east that would be right in the healdsburg so they don't want that to happen for sure there are a lot of evacuations in the area right now they evacuated the lake sonoma area yesterday if you need some more info on those evacuations you can go to the county website. the cal fire website or also kron 4 dot com. we have a page with quite
