>>real slow news stations. >>good morning and thanks for joining us. this sunday morning where as you can see we've got a red flag warning in place in the bay area for the entire bay area, the national weather service saying that there could be more dry lightning and erratic winds and it's a big concern because the last time we had dry lightning that's what sparked all the fires that we're still struggling to get a handle on. the president has approved the governor's request for a major disaster declaration so help is on the way in the form of federal aid to help battle these wildfires
7:01 am
burning around the bay and as they continue to rage that major that declaration will help us right now the latest from cal fire puts the lnu complex fire. at 17% containment. that is the fire that's burning in the north bay. the scu lightning complex fire which is in the east bay has burned 10% contained right now and the czu lightning complex fire. that's the one along the peninsula. it's just 8% contain still that is a jump from yesterday morning by about 3% so little by little they are working on it as fast as they can to knock down these fires before there is a threat. more dry lightning. let's talk about the csu lightning complex fire in santa cruz and san mateo counties in total. this fire has burned 71,000 acres, 60,000 people plus have had to flee their homes and as you
7:02 am
can see many structures have gone up in flames 2 people suffered minor injury. there are now 1300 fire personnel there battling that fire right now. let's take a look at the map and that shows you scotts valley and santa cruz where this fire broke out. though that's a lot of rugged terrain and that makes the firefight all the more difficult. let's go there now live to reyna harvey she has been following this complex of fires from santa cruz for the last couple of days what's going on right now rain a better or worse. well daria the firefighters are trying to make a better situation out of a man one that's what they mentioned during the press conference earlier today. >>and right behind me they're starting their morning meeting you can see the hundreds of firefighters and personnel behind me talking about what they're going to do today with their plan of attack it is so there are a lot of things happening down here on the ground the fire they do have more containment that they got overnight, it's still
7:03 am
conditions are not the best out there for the firefighters i was actually out there yesterday in all of it and there were trees that have the potential to come down because they were still catching on fire in certain areas and hot spots are popping up. >>take a look at this this is images of yesterday you can see firefighters actually trying to live through all of this on the mountainside you can see fire on the left or the right of him as they try to drive through this area. now again some very unfortunate things happened yesterday, we know a firefighter while he was out working i was actually robbed someone broke into his vehicle and stole some items from him we also know emergency personnel vehicle also had a large branch fall and crush that windshield. it's very dangerous for the first responders who are out there on the ground that's why they're asking people to leave the area, but it makes it even more difficult when people decide to try and stay take a listen. what's important signal.
7:04 am
>>one of our our ground commanders in that area. while out taking care of business wrecking the firefighting crews, somebody entered his vehicle is a part of vehicle and stole personal vehicles include his wallet. great as they could is scams and this parts coming next and so it's starting to trickle in. >>but if you get a call from like pg and e or someone. he says hey i'm i thanks to some things going on whether it's your power whether it's taxes you've got a warrant or anything like that. they they may call you may receive a call like that. it's not legitimate absolutely not legitimate and they're going to ask you to provide them gift cards or put you know the transfer money to a certain location. don't do that at all. >>and >>you're right so great advice from the firefighters there you want to be mindful that some of these scams potentially could be popping up so that's what they're also trying to warn people about you're looking at more of the
7:05 am
homes that were burned here overnight now again moving forward they are also concerned like you guys mentioned about the weather so behind me right now that's exactly what they're talking about they're talking about the humidity and the potential lightning strikes to come again, so we'll be monitoring that will give you an update coming up at 7.30 with they talk about in this meeting is they are focusing on the weather and just if you are thinking about coming into the area like they mention please just stay away for now reporting here in scott valley, rain a hurry kron 4 news all right, thanks a lot of rain i know all those folks that are so concerned there 24,000 homes. >>and other buildings should still threatened right now this morning. so we'll go back to you for live reports and updates now let's go to the north bay that fire the lnu complex fire has been the most deadliest and most destructive fire. 5 people have been killed 4 people have been injured firefighters working on the fire have been injured. 845 structures have been
7:06 am
burned where was we've what we've just got the word that it was a 129 structures lost but as you can see this fire to the north has burned far more as far as homes. 845 destroyed 231 damaged. and there are now 30,000 homes that are threatened by this fire, let's zoom in on the map now this area this is in sonoma and napa counties where the fire is burning and that includes of course healdsburg and you can see vacaville a big point as well that we're concerned about this morning kron four's dan kerman is live in the north bay with the latest on this fire dan. >>good morning. daria we're here in healdsburg you can see the sun is slowly coming up very smoky here at this point and the skies in the valleys also very smoky at this point of course the big concern is the wind shift that occurred yesterday fire had been pushing in one direction for most of the past week now it's moving into the other direction. firefighters at least here in healdsburg trying to keep that fire from
7:07 am
approaching one oh one in the healdsburg area and other areas let's a take some video of yesterday sowing some of the fire suppression that was being done helicopters aircraft flying in and around western side of this fire the walbridge fire. we can tell you the aircraft was grounded for some time due to that marine layer that was hanging over with those low clouds but eventually that aircraft was able to get up, but as you said, there's been plenty of destruction both here on the west side of the fire and also on the hennessy side of the fire which is closer to lake berryessa let's roll that video we can show you some video structures that have been destroyed over there so firefighters really have their hands full today and of course what they're expecting is dry lightning. they're expecting thunderstorms that can lead to erratic winds that can lead to more fire. an escalation of this fire. so while things seem a relatively calm at this

moment in time where i'm standing. they are in for quite the fight today depending on what that lightning and those thunderstorms end up doing. that's the latest reporting live in healdsburg dan kerman kron 4 news and how is it at the moment, it looks pretty still out there is that dan or does it just seem that way on tv. >>it. >>no it does seem very still a very smoky, but very still at least in this area that we're at but still plenty of fires burning throughout this whole huge area. you know we talked about the wall bridge fire that is still 0% contained at this the hennessey fire which is on the eastern side of this 17% contained, but still thousands of acres burning and as we had noticed, you know this isn't such a huge wide area. there's just it's not like this one. a fire burning in one direction, it's there are a lots of fires, burning and various hillsides. yeah, you know i was talking to people about how i went through 80 before right before they closed it. >>and i went through again
7:09 am
yesterday on my way to sacramento and saw it like you said you drive through and you see the charred area and just how the fire jumped the road and where it went next and and the homes that were spared and i know in the north bay that fire has been the most destructive as far as homes. >>absolutely i mean we homes here mill creek road near mill creek road just crossed us from the valley that have burned down we show you some pictures on the lake berryessa side which is the east side of the cell and you fire was also seen and again these fires are continuing to burn and again change in the wind direction could be moving it back into another direction plus we've got this whole concern about the lightning and the thunderstorms and what that can do we're just going to wait and see you know we're going to get to that right now thanks a lot dan and stay tuned to kron 4 for the very latest going on is that website at kron 4. >>dot com as well. john we are concerned about the weather today. yeah, this next system that's moving in daria going to result in the potential of

7:17 am
as well as portions of the north bay also impacted by some of our relatively poor air quality again a lot of us have improved this morning compared to yesterday but that's not likely to continue because we have a weather system working its way our direction. that's going to result in 2 things that will be hazardous as far as fires go erratic winds which could result in fires growing as well as smoke filtering back into areas that are feeling relief this morning as well as the potential of more dry lightning now if you remember last week we had those lightning storm sunday and monday. that's what resulted in all the wildfire activity we're looking at across the bay right now. so this risk of even more of those dry lightning strikes is what has so many so concerned the next week ahead of us as well we could see increased wildfire activity. so there's this system that's working its way right up the coast very similar to last week still dealing with a z conditions still dealing with hot conditions too so all those factors are still in place we now have red flag issued all

i'm here with john trouble we're looking at the weather and the concerns this morning as the whole bay area as you can see is under a red flag warning right now because there is the possibility of dry lightning. and that could spark more blazes and as we know last sunday that's what happened exactly that that's what sparked all the fires that we're covering this morning and we are making some progress also we're going to get some help because the president has approved the governor's request to declare this area a major disaster area and that will open up federal aid to come into the bay area to help us fight the fires that have been raging now for a week. let's take a look at the latest the lnu complex fire. that's the for the complex of fires burning in the north bay. those are 17% contained right now that's the best that we can do of all of these fires that are burning to the north east and south of san francisco right now making for poor air quality again. the scu lightning complex fire. that one is 10% contained that's in

big part of covering these wildfires we are expecting dry lightning and it's almost the exact same storm has sparked all these full of blazes last sunday. there's just one difference and it's not good at least that one had some rain yeah, this one looks even drier daria so you're exactly right very similar systems here. >>i think everyone woke up sunday morning last week surprise well that rain and lightning is just not something you see a lot in the bay area. then of course because of it we had those the fires that have popped up throughout the week, especially early this past week. now we see the potential all over again the sunday into monday. this morning it has been a hazy out there. we started the morning with actually some pretty clear conditions but smoke is just subtle the right back down into the bay as the sun is beginning to come out so air quality is continuing to deteriorate likely seeing some of these areas that are under moderate soon to become if not already becoming on the port side of things all the way out to the coastline now as far as stormtracker four's concerned
9:16 am
we may be pretty calm at the moment, but this is what we've got heading our direction very similar to last week another system working its way up from the south this one looks to be a little less intense, but a little on the drier side to which is not the best of news at least when you get rain helps to dampen all the dry tinder the grasses and bushes that have dried out during summer months. this one not likely to bring that punch of rainfall like we saw last week at least as much of it and that's dry lightning is sparking the potential of wildfires yet again some new lightning sparked fires possible so from coast to inland areas north to south across the bay were all under this potential and that's red flag warnings are back in effbct cloud cover increases this afternoon and into the evening tonight, not really looking at much of a potential at least in future cast. and a lot of widespread rainfall here, thunderstorms are likely to be accompanied by dry lightning and us we will be looking at that high fire danger. also a shift in wind direction here too winds have
9:17 am
mostly been out of the northwest and we're already seeing winds shifting direction now mostly out of the southwest. so wildfire growth is likely to be on different fronts of the fire and i know that fire crews have already tried to draw lines, especially on the north and east sides of the existing blazes as winds do start to rise into the afternoon out of the southwest on like they have been the past few days. temperatures today will rise into the 90's yet again for antioch livermore concord back to the 90's and san jose morgan hill and napa well 80's 70's along the bay 60's 70's near the coastline. temperatures as we work our way through the rest of the forecast are going to remain just as hot for most areas. we will see the best chance of thunderstorms tonight into tomorrow, lingering into tuesday, although that potential begins to diminish. wednesday will be our last day at least as of right now of spare the air alerts but i'm expecting to see those extended as hayes is likely to linger through the upcoming week. daria.

people and 20,000 plus structures are threatened by those fires. then there's the fire burning in marine county and they're holding a briefing on that right now at let's get the latest update on the woodwork fire rocked bridge between sir francis trade in the mccurdy >>it looks like we have about 6 of us 1620 structures that are still threatening we are we do have a new structure team that is here as part of the incident management team that will be assisting in evaluating those numbers and also looking at in gress egress in and out of the area so that if we do have to issue evacuation we want at the best knowledge to us to be able to move forward with that in the most productive manner possible i would now like to introduce scott shoots scott schuster skews me who is the new one of the new incident commanders from the northern rockies incident management team ice caps. >>check.
9:34 am
>>good morning, first i want to we're excited to be here at poynter as so sure i'm looking forward to working with you the community and all that it sees they're involved in this fire. the national park service. warren county sheriff's and fire departments. lena's fire department and working together to work together you folks as we managed incidents. as has been said where a type one it's a measure team from the northern rockies so with that we come with. significantly large number of folks to help manage the fire. with lots of experience managing large fire all over the country and in fact this team's been in california. all 4 or 5 times over the past 10 years so not exactly this exact spot, but we do have experience stars here so he's one of first also say thank you to bernard and the type 3
9:35 am
team he's done an excellent job getting started in. manning's incident for the past several days we spent all day with his folks getting tune in to what's going and being ready to tag in and take up where he left off. so i do do much want to mention that our team has a small covid taskforce that will be working with cattle on re takes a very seriously. we know how how far has been affected by covid so we'll continue. to do the things that that hard and put in place to mitigate covid and look for additional opportunities do more work there to make sure we keep the community safe. and our first responders states as well. so without want to do is click operational briefing on what's going on today. we on. which you spent a lot of time on really should flying in in the
9:36 am
old isn't fire. riza the seal to 15 water scoopers to keep some of the spots and check that we're trying to go north of that ridge line we're continuing to work on reopening old was a line from there as well so that's going continue today that has been cause it's a little bit of problems as that for tries to move north. the folks yesterday did excellent job keep that in check so we're going to work on that are also prepping the limit or road to the north and east in looking for opportunities to to find a spot to take up the fire there and then on the southern and we are going direct right off the coastline, there as best we can and then also looking at the bear valley trail as as a backup plan so we'll continue to assess that get resources in place to do that right mention the structure protection group we do have so special son they're a nuisance over engine is reassessing the inverness park area today. so you may see the folks if you live up there are folks running around up there assessing the structures and and getting a plan in place. yes and when. we need to do
9:37 am
also our team has folks who do recall long-term planning. so they'll be looking at plans b and c out here for unsuccessful the fire moves norse. north or east as well so we'll have those backup plans in place too. sort of for the future if we need those so that i want to say. thanks again for welcoming us to a community and we look forward to working with the the we will continue to have 9.30. briefings the 9th or in the morning briefings like we have will continue that schedule just has it as it's been. we can see where it will be up the national website will have information on a wood were fired as well. so that. thanks to turn over to start. morning thank you know, i think i think scott thank the entire team.
9:38 am
>>our folks have been out here since tuesday when this fire started so. it's a very welcoming feeling having them all here, they're doing a fantastic job all of our resources are right working right alongside him for local knowledge and we're we're fully embedded us a co-operative effort and remains so you know the challenge of course this weather change we have over the weekend. we'll see what that brings an initial so new fires remain a priority for us here in the county and keeping all fire small there's over a million acres burning in california right now. the largest i think in history resources are thin across the western united states. so we'll continue to work to prioritize where we put limited resources and keep the good work going. we understand this is stressful for all of you the and we are fully to putting this darned thing out and moving on in this team's making that happen so thank you all for your patience.
9:39 am
thanks so scott and she farber said we continue to put both direct and indirect line around this we're sensitive the community it be. >>there will be a transition time as we move to the new federal incident management team with how information is shared where that there will be a shift because this new fashion as a management team is coming in with information is shared it will be shared still on some of the same platforms but some of those may be changing and that will be information that we put out to the public this multiple times before that transition happens. >>i'd also like to remind residents and our viewers that there is a red flag warning in effect through 05:00pm tomorrow and with that is the chance for thunderstorm winds lightning which i know is not
9:40 am
a welcome feeling over be assured that we do have a significant amount of resources both on the woodward incident and also throughout the county should we have a new start and my chief weber said the new starts are a priority in the county and we have staffing to handle that with that that will conclude the press conference for today and i look at our social media platforms but for a county fire point reyes national seashore and the marin county sheriff's office twitter facebook and if you're a local resident on next storm will keep pushing out information hopefully give you more up to date information throughout the day. and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow, same time same place for another press preaching. thank you so much of the day all right so that was the update on the woodward fire that's the one burning in marion county so far now it's grown to 2,700 acres. >>5% contained and they're telling everybody stay away from that area a lot of people like to hike in that area point reyes national seashore go to the beach do not do that
9:41 am
they don't want anybody in harm's way as they continue to battle that fire and that as you know one of many fires burning all around the bay. i think we do have an update for you as well on the lnu complex fire. so let's take a look at some video from the scene there. this is the one in the north of l and you sorry, this is the one that has killed 5 people 4 people are injured and so many structures destroyed so many homes are gone. 845 structures burned to the ground 230 to 31 damage. you can see some of that in the video that we have well over 340,000 acres have burned this one at least it's 17% contain. but you can see how many areas are affected by this healdsburg santa rosa and napa vacaville. this is a wide area and we are looking at changes in the weather that or not to the firefighters favor and that is the winds that are going to be a radical that spread these flames and also more flames could be sparked by dry lightning is john has
9:42 am
been telling us that something that we are waiting for we're all under a weather watch for that john. >>yeah, absolutely that potential really kicking up tonight on into tomorrow and that is also going to result in some smoke being spread around the bay area already seeing impacts more so than likely when you got up this morning, a smoke settles right into the bay, i've got updates on the latest system that could spark more fires wh if your dry eye symptoms keep coming back,
9:43 am
inflammation in your eye might be to blame. looks like a great day for achy, burning eyes over-the-counter eye drops typically work by lubricating your eyes and may provide temporary relief. ha! these drops probably won't touch me. xiidra works differently, targeting inflammation that can cause dry eye disease. what is that? xiidra, noooo! it can provide lasting relief. xiidra is the only fda approved treatment specifically for the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. one drop in each eye, twice a day. don't use if you're allergic to xiidra.
9:44 am
common side effects include eye irritation, discomfort or blurred vision when applied to the eye, and unusual taste sensation. don't touch container tip to your eye or any surface. after using xiidra, wait 15 minutes before reinserting contacts. got any room in your eye? talk to an eye doctor about twice-daily xiidra. i prefer you didn't! xiidra. not today, dry eye.
9:45 am
talk about these next 24 hours as we see the potential of some dry lightning returning across the bay area. we do have a haze this morning after what was clear skies earlier on conditions have become a lot less clear gradually so far as smoke has settled right back into the bay san francisco here but really the rest of the bay area looking pretty similar. right now we're nice and calm. but later on in the day. this system working its way our direction is going to be bringing us the potential of dry lightning strikes as well as a change in wind direction in summer attic winds that means existing fires could show spread in a different direction and make the containment and even harder process for firefighters, this low pressure area right here sitting offshore steering its way up or direction very similar to what happened last week you remember sunday and monday all the lightning and thunder storms we saw this system does look to be packing less of a punch but as it is a bit drier, any sort of dry lightning that we do see could result rapidly spreading fire
9:46 am
and that is why we are under red flag warnings yet again from coastal areas to our inland areas north to south across the bay area on into tomorrow. timing of all this cloud cover really increases into the late afternoon today that's what our thunder storm potential kicks back up into gear, cloud cover remains with us through the evening as does that potential of dry lightning through your sunday night into monday morning. after that will still hold on to thunderstorm potential into tuesday, but it starts to diminish after midday tomorrow, so tonight into tomorrow morning is the greatest threat as far as wildfires go and dry lightning is concerned we're still fairly calm right now but we've already seen a shift in wind direction. winds have been primarily out of the north northwest but now out of the southwest and that will continue into the afternoon as wind speeds kick up as the system makes its way into the area. wind speeds remaining breezy through the evening tonight, not good news for wildfires should help to at least push smoke out of some areas of the bay but likely
9:47 am
into other areas not going to be helping us all winds do come down into tomorrow. today's daytime highs in the 90's for inland areas yet again this is familiar territory. concord in livermore 95 each antioch 96 morgan hill and napa also in the 90's. san jose at 90 degrees. 70's and 80's along the bay with a few 60's nears the coastline. now tomorrow's temperatures won't change much despite the fact that we do have likely thunderstorms to start the day that will come along with some cloud cover after that the spare the air alerts continue on into wednesday after which point we are likely to see them extended as hasan heat remains for the rest of the forecast. daria thanks john just before the republican convention, a big blow to president trump from his own sister who says quote. >>you can trust him. maryanne trump, a well respected retired federal judge says that are younger brother phony self-serving liar. she didn't know she was being recorded and the washington post got a
