weekend hot and dry temperatures exceeding 100 a lot of the east bay portions of county as well little part like san francisco to the and also along the coastline, not to are in a little bit. we're looking at excessive heat advisory, but this is an excessive heat warning and just about all the entire bay area for the weekend temperatures thus far come into the 60's we got some 50's up to the north bay feeling pretty good to start 61, san jose. most readings inland are actually ahead of the ball game or only trailing a little bit around the coast. and up to the north bay a little bit as well not having a lot the way of winds just a minor little breeze here going on here is the breakdown word, 84 by 11 by 2 o'clock 99. again with numbers topping off well beyond 100. we'll take a closer inspection of those temperatures coming up in just a bit marty. >>all right dave and we want to continue our coverage of this hot holiday weekend by taking a look the way to some cities are helping people stay cool with the added challenge of also protecting them from

covid-19 kron four's reyna harvey live in the east bay, she has more on that. hi rhonda good morning. >>marty happy saturday morning i'm out here in mountain view where i write in for the cooling center where they're going to be helping some people stay cool of already talked to some residents out here who are outside exercising trying to get it done before it starts to get any hotter out here and it's going to be really hot for sure so we want to make sure you have some tips to stay safe put off that exercise until later in the night or hopefully you're out doing it now so you can avoid the heat that's going to come can get very dangerous also you want to put off the cooking or baking in the kitchen and leave that into later on in the evening. i know sometimes on the weekend. that's what we like to get a lot of our cooking in but if you can avoid heating up your house unnecessarily. i advise you do that make sure you drink. plenty of water and check on your family members and your loved ones maybe if you have some older relatives who might live alone you want to make sure they're ok and always

open at the robert livermore community center that's in livermore also in contra costa centers will be open as well an antioch in concord pleasant hill and in richmond going out to the north bay centers will be open in sandra fell in santa rosa. and if you'd like more information more detailed information on where to go and what to bring to cool off all you have to do is head to our website at kron 4 dot com. well the extreme heat is causing governor newsom to declare a state of emergency for california in that declaration will give the state access to several backup sources of energy and it also temporarily cuts pollution regulations for power plants in the state. emergency management leaders and regulators say that they will be on high alert through monday. and there are several ways that you can help save energy is well first of all set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher also turn off unnecessary lights. closure blinds and drapes to keep your home cool avoid using appliances and other electrical devices, especially

in the heat out of the afternoon when power uses at its peak. and also think about using fans instead of air conditioning whenever possible. a heat advisories in effect for san francisco and mayor london breed was at dolores park handing out some masks on friday. she was joined by the sisters of perpetual indulgence or teaming up with the city to hand out 1000 face coverings over the labor day weekend the mayor is urging residents and visitors to stay vigilant during this weekend. so we can all avoid a spike in cases that could force a bad rollback of planned reopenings people are going to want to get together with family members accusing him of people to really think twice because. >>you know this is when covid spread even more in the last thing i want to do is start our reopening process and have to dial it back again because within 2 weeks we discover and a huge spike. >>and park rangers say they will also be out in force this weekend handing out masks as well in fact they've already given out 14,000 masks alone

bay area but delay over city officials say the resolution is not an admission of guilt. the attorney for the family of ron l foster argues the multimillion dollar and settlement indicates a turning point when it comes to officers to take a life kron 4 says he can't do and has more. >>the 5.7 million dollars settlement reached in the 2018 vallejo police shooting death of an al foster is more than significant. >>maybe the largest. after american male that was hit and killed in this area, fosters a stain actually bullet holes in the side in the back of the head and 3 to 4 in the back. >>civil rights attorney john burris says the police body cam video was extremely important as evidence in this case. >>this is a situation a current generated man was riding a bicycle at night. really mind his own business and this police off to the side that he wanted to stop him. and may be asking questions about where he's

peninsula coast in the north bay coast. this is whole weekend. and monday till 9 o'clock all of this is in force. temperatures pushing inland well beyond 100 bay area temperatures. well in the 90's maybe upper 80's if you're lucky and at the coast, we're looking at 70's going on today, current winds of course not doing much of anything com that's typical in the morning, but by the afternoon. we're still not looking for much of the way of winds lower 60's happening in the east bay 50's up to the north bay 61 san jose. these will be moving very quickly this morning which will continue to monitor here for you a little warmer this morning. the east and south bay cooler up to the north bay. so to break it down for you in 99, it looks like by 2 o'clock, although most readings in the far east bay and the solano county but looking at 100 plus we'll have to go that 4 zone forecast for you coming up in just a bit part alright, dave thanks a lot. we'll as day was mentioning we're in for another weekend of blistering and potentially dangerous heat and unfortunately that raises the potential for some power

outages and also wildfires. this is fire crews are still working to contain the fires that are already burning in the bay area kron four's dan thorn is at lake berryessa where the cleanup from the hennessy fire in napa county as for us recreation areas to be closed off. >>well this closure comes from the u.s. bureau of reclamation. the hennessy fire one of the lnu complex fires tore through this area and now hundreds of workers will be here throughout the weekend to make the lake safe again in the meantime napa county deputies want to make sure that people stay away. napa counties lake berryessa might seem like the ideal place to cool off an escape this weekend's scorching temperatures but because of the hennessy fire. the lake is off limits through labor day the areas surrounding the lake. >>the infrastructure in some places the roadway itself. suffered some pretty some pretty significant damage. >>a county under sheriff john crawford says deputies will be patrolling the lake to keep people away. the closure is

for safety and will allow hundreds of crews to remove trees clear around roads and put in new utility poles and lines all that work needs to happen without visitors flocking to the lake. >>there's just a lot just a lot of things that need to be taking care of cleaned up repaired before people can really safely come back and recreate the lake various, the head of the fire is the largest of the lnu complex fires, it's burned more than 310,000 acres destroyed hundreds of buildings and has killed 3 people in napa county. >>land torched by the flames could be seen in areas all along the lake. the undersheriff says now is not the time to come it would definitely appreciate that people heed our he the closure recorded somewhere else besides lake berryessa particularly during this labor day weekend. >>for those that are looking to go boating this weekend in napa county lake hennessy is open. but you are not allowed to go swimming or go

paddleboarding reporting at lake berryessa dan thorn kron 4 news. >>and cal fire continues to make progress on the major wildfires still burning in the bay area. the lnu lightning complex fire in the north bay is currently at 88% containment with more than 375,000 acres burned the scu complex burning in the east and south bay is up to 84% containment now with more than 396,000 acres burned and the czu lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties or up to 58% containment with more than 86,000 acres that have burned. now to the south bay this morning, san jose state university is expanding its wildfire academic team. the university has hired 5 faculty members with backgrounds in wildfire science and management. it's an investment for the university's wildfire research as jay state already has a fire weather lab and now

a new centers focusing on wildfires sciences that includes predicting how wild fires will spread and also affect air quality. professor of meteorology and climate science is craig clements also runs the department's fire weather research lab he's been working closely with cal fire in fact last year he went to the kincade fire in sonoma county with a new customized truck that included a doppler radar that scanned the wildfire plume. >>we use that same kind of methodology and deployment strategy where we see the events we want to go to it. the difference is that it's really hard to get these assets behind the fire lines you prepared for the fall fuels a very critically dry and so we have another mission under some wind regime. >>it could be dangerous still so we're not out yet we're just getting started >>well professor clements also says the pandemic has made field experiments more challenging because it's tough to social distance now despite that members of the fire

is not an issue but that morning haze, we certainly have live shot up from sfo, no delays occurring this morning. bay area temperatures now we're in the 60's for most of the east bay 50's north 61 san jose and 60 to one opera san francisco and a cool 50 going on for half moon bay border, looking temperatures moving even there. humidity want to show you this system briefly here we don't have a whole lot of humidity to start things off typically the whole bay area. it's very green to start things off but given our weather pattern. not a big surprise not a big surprise things dry out in the far east bay later on today and the feels good because it lets you cool off a little bit during the afternoon. we do worry sometimes about this a little bit because of the fire threat. now because temperatures are so lofty the atmosphere can support a lot more moisture in the air so relative humidity levels that's the key word relative drop off even though the air may not be necessarily that drive by comparison 6. why we like to look at dew points more. now this is what it looks like sunday morning not much of recovery there

for half moon bay was controlling all of this is the familiar pacific high, but this go around the placement is just to the right location very potent high it is and warm air aloft to to start off with so when you got warm air already working here. it subsided so it's falling and it's right the right location. we don't get much the way of surface winds well away we go and that's what temperatures are going to do for today tomorrow and even into monday, it looks like. now with the service winds part of the story typically we see with inland heating. just a natural breeze that brings it in from the coast. technically the arrows are pointing in that direction, but you can see there's no real uptick in these winds that we commonly get protecting those inland valleys there, nothing. we try even into tomorrow looks like there's a little bit around water just trying to happen a little bit but nothing major at all that's not going provide much relief as we even as we get into the evening hours so the heating won't be a company by somewhat of a

hundreds of workers will be here throughout the weekend to make the lake safe again in the meantime napa county deputies want to make sure that people stay away. napa counties, lake berryessa might seem like the ideal place to cool off an escape this weekend's scorching temperatures but because of the hennessy fire. the lake is off limits through labor day the areas surrounding the lake. >>the infrastructure in some places the roadway itself. suffered some pretty some pretty significant damage. >>a county under sheriff john crawford says deputies will be patrolling the lake to keep people away. the closure is for safety and will allow hundreds of crews to remove trees clear around roads and put in new utility poles and lines all that work needs to happen without visitors flocking to the lake. >>there's just a lot just a lot of things that need to be taking care of cleanup repaired before people can really safely come back and recreate the lake various. >>the head of the fire is the

the east and south bay is up to 84% containment with more than 396,000 acres charred and the czu lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties are up to 58% containment. it has burned more than 86,000 acres there. now to the south bay where san jose state university is expanding its wildfire academic team. the university is hiring 5 new faculty members who have backgrounds in wildfire science and management and investment for the university's wildfire research program as jay state also has a fire already has a fire weather lab. and now there's a new center that focuses on wildfires sciences, including protecting how wild fires will spread and affect air quality. professor of meteorology and climate science sciences craig claimant clements runs the department's fire weather research lab. he's also been working closely with cal fire. last year in fact clemens and his team went to the kincade fire in sonoma county with new
