7:01 am
in from the bay bridge toll plaza, the fog is not as much on the ground as we saw from yesterday in fact. >>a dense fog advisory for along the coast. this live shot coming in from san jose state to give you an idea what it looks like down. in the south bay a little bit to most bay area temperatures are in the upper 50's to 50's up in the north bay, some 60's way off towards the east contrast with that we're a little bit warmer by a couple degrees this morning, we're actually going to be a little colder this afternoon because of the advertised on shore flow which brought in this fog. now what we have is we have some smoke that came in from the south a little bit aloft. however, we should still clear out a little bit in the afternoon just a touch better than it was from yesterday but this onshore flow place. that's in place here we'll continue to keep temperatures down we see the fog returning as you can see late for tonight. we're going to 71 by 11 o'clock we'll call partly cloudy still kind of hazy by 02:00pm marty all right dave and continuing on that theme this morning, the air is so unhealthy in the
7:02 am
east bay. >>that the alameda county health department is recommending that everyone stay indoors unless absolutely necessary kron four's reyna harvey is live in berkeley this morning for us she has more rain and what's the scene out there. >>well marty just like dave mentioned very smoky, but you still see some of that fog mix in here people are waking up this morning like again. more bad air and i'm sad to say that's the truth so let me show you right here as you can see this is a cloudy sky and then off there in the distance there that's where you start to see that fog and that smoke really build up in between there you can built on it you know barely make out the buildings, the fog covering that and this air quality just like it was yesterday, we've got all across alameda county. it's in the 200 raging over a 100 you still see that purple a red which means the air is really a key yesterday i was out in contra costa county in the air out there in areas of antioch and martinez are still really awful over the city as
7:03 am
well marty it's really bad. purple across the map as well. now the bay area air quality management district we're seeing some of the highest readings in the north and east bay area with hazardous and unhealthy air due to smoke from wildfires that we know that are buried across our state. oregon and washington. he talks about that take a listen. >>right now is there's so much smoke offshore the evening. we get her off afternoon breezes which usually clear things out it's just bringing more smoke into the bay area. >>all right more small and sadly mardy has your back out here live showing you there's a more smoke. taking right here in this area. sadly it looks like this is going to be a trend for the next couple of days, a look at our air quality map and basically it shows that we're going to see that air quality and smoke like this into our week so for many of you who have to start work. this week ahead and are
7:04 am
you know have to get back out and you're able to stay home over the weekend. make sure you have a heavy duty mass like the one we're in right now to 95. but for now reporting here in berkeley when you come back out here next time marty will move over to another city to check the air quality there marty back to you ok reyna stay safe out there yet another day just like yesterday rain harvey reporting for us in the east bay this morning. >>happening today, several centers will be open in the bay area to help people get some relief from the unhealthy air. >>let's go to the east bay or oakland has several centers, including the 81st street library it will be open from one until 7 o'clock tonight. saint vincent de paul in san pablo avenue will be open from 9 in the morning till 3 in the afternoon dimond library library fruitvale avenue will be open from noon until 7 and the north oakland senior center on martin luther king way will be open from noon until 5 now these locations will be staffed by oakland city workers. now to the south

7:08 am
>>good morning welcome back well the state is called in
7:09 am
some reinforcements from the east coast to help fight the major wildfires that continue to burn here in the bay area and they arrived in one of the world's largest cargo aircraft kron four's phillipe djegal reports from sfo where that plane landed on saturday. >>a welcome sight in a breath of bad air for the california governor's office of emergency services callow yes teamed up with fema to fly in a russian antonov cargo aircraft billed as the largest airplane on the planet is the first coming out here for almost 20 years. >>and crew members from the new jersey forest fire service touchdown at san francisco international airport saturday afternoon carrying 3 fire engines and a truck. >>the task force assigned to deadly and destructive bay area wildfires. >>hoping other crews already stretched thin california getting the worst of the worse.
7:10 am
>>here and they plan on staying in the state for 2 weeks they specialize in wildfires, especially attacking flames in remote areas sightings of forest fire is an arduous task is very large and very dangerous as fast-moving is very easy for people to be injured. therefore it had to be taken slowly and methodically and. it's it's not an easy tasks. but that's the that's what we do. >>and the task force's arrival comes at a critical time thousands of homes have been destroyed and more than 3 million acres of land have burned in california since the start of the year it seems like this. >>and and then the next year seems to be worse off. one state we can only hope at san francisco international airport fleet of all kron 4 news. >>and we have new information for you on the august complex
7:11 am
fire that's burning in humboldt and mendocino counties in fact it's the largest wildfire in state history. it has burned more than 875,000 acres and is 25% contained this morning. happening tomorrow president trump sent to visit california to address the wildfires burning in the state the president expected to visit cal fire's base camp at mcclellan park in sacramento, cal fire we'll be updating the president on devastating wildfires that are burning here on the west coast. governor newsome has previously praised the president for sending federal aid to help california through this historic wildfire season. but he's also criticized the white house for not doing enough to prevent climate change dave. >>ok marty what a lot of 50's across the region 60 off to antioch a look at what it looks like with the fog in place an sfo no delays this morning, your forecast is next. you know how these things start. you try wendy's buy one get one for a dollar breakfast offer, love it and tell a friend.

7:13 am
7:14 am
>>and we are back talking about the forecast sunday. we're expecting another smoky day around the bay yeah, it looks like that way the haze for the coming in from san jose state of the singer and i deal with the skies. look like there were dealing with fog this morning is the big issue as cfo as well now most of this a fog advisory stuff until 9 is for along the immediate coast here. temperatures thus far we're in the 50's over most of the district 62 covering antioch and you can see a lot of 50's out there the east bay. now
7:15 am
we've had this up mid of this fog going on here and it's kind of helped out a little bit but we've had troubling the smoke coming in from the south a little bit that that's pretty much been a lot what's really going to clean us out as we get to middle to latter portion of the week all of this collection you see here in terms of troughs these systems will come our way and that will help really mix out the atmosphere might even bring some showers potentially to the north bay again this is towards the end of the week early on the week, we'll also see the onshore flow in the morning fog routine but as far as air quality it doesn't look like things are really going to improve until we get to about tuesday, potentially all of this future cast for as we go forward with all of this cleaning out nicely in terms of the sky conditions that is from the clouds and then late tonight here comes the marine layer again a couple little sprinkles embedded in that fog to greet you on your monday morning as well clearing out for the afternoon again will probably be left with some hazy sunshine. although day by day improving on the sky conditions so putting it all together here for you it's the morning fog ghost afternoon hayes cooler compliments of
7:16 am
that on shore flow a little bit here. coupled with that here. we do have that continuing early into the week, mild temperatures with all of that morning drizzle and sprinkles along the coast. but late in the week someone of this we'll call unsettled pattern with these frontal systems coming and that may really start to clear us the air. then finally clears out for everybody forecast today calling in for 68 san francisco, oakland, 7480 meanwhile, san jose and across the greater real estate we're going to keep it into the 80's and it looks like for much of the week ahead to the east bay shoreline in the mid 70's while we're at it as well we'll take closer look at that in your 4 zone forecast and that extend the 2 mark sounds good dave see in a couple minutes. thank you. well we're following the developing story in los angeles county this morning were 2 sheriff's deputies are fighting for their lives. >>after they were shot in an ambush the la county sheriff's department has released video of the incident and we want to warn you it could be disturbing to you. video of the incident shows the gunman
7:17 am
walking up to a patrol car last night outside a transit center in compton. he began shooting into the car and then ran away a male and female deputy were hit multiple times. both of them of undergone surgery, the latest update from the hospital is that they are both in stable condition this morning. >>the suspect approached them from behind as the deputies were facing southbound in their patrol vehicle. the suspect came from the north. he walked along the passenger side of the car. he acted as if he was going to walk past the car and then he made a left turn directly toward the car raised a pistol and fired several rounds inside of the vehicle, striking both of the sheriff's deputies. one is a 31 year-old the mother of the 6 year-old boy the other one is a 24 year-old they just graduated night fact, nice for them in office just 14 months ago. >>these are real people doing a tough job. it just just the dangerous of the job.
7:18 am
>>well the suspect in this video is still at large and will continue to follow the story and bring you any updates as we get them. when living in santa cruz county was displaced by the czu lightning fire must have been a change of address online in order to receive their election ballot in the mail. poster fish postal officials say that the ballots cannot be forwarded so anyone with a new address submitted to the county otherwise or ballot will be considered undeliverable now of course mail in voting just one option that fire victims have for the upcoming general election they will be able to vote in person at the county's election department or sign up for an e-mail ballot. now if you or someone you know in santa cruz county needs to change their address you can do so online or in person at the locations that you see on your screen now this of the information also available on our website at kron 4 dot com. this of course has been a historic wildfire season in california
7:19 am
more than 3 million acres have burned that's the most in the state's history. cal fire estimates that more than 4 million structures have been destroyed in california. democratic vice presidential candidate kamala harris is in washington this weekend. but as a california sen she still has an obligation to our state. so reporter joe khalil asked her how she's handling our current crisis in the middle of her campaign. you find it hard to be balancing your duties as a senator of the state that at this point. >>is literally on fire. with your duties running for vice president. >>now i mean this in my priority, my first priority is always going to be doing the job that i have which is being united states center and that means in this arena making sure that that my constituents and that the people of our state have all the resources they need and that's why we have been connecting people with federal disaster relief why we've been connecting people with unemployment disaster relief because these
7:20 am
are the things people need right now this is where i as early as march of this year i was on fema and all of these folks saying this is predictable it's going to happen what's your plan you guys need to come up with a plan and of on a regular basis being in touch with the governor. and other leaders in our state to make sure that i'm doing everything i can to make sure the federal government is doing what it should do to support california with now this year covid in the pandemic we needed to have a plan in place for evacuations and for all so making sure that we're giving people the right information about how they can be safe, especially when we're talking about and air quality being at an all-time low coupled with a virus that attacks the respiratory system and president trump did tweet his support for all of the people handling. >>these fires. he said yesterday quote thank you to the 28,000 plus firefighters and other first responders who
7:21 am
are battling wildfires across california, oregon and washington, i've improved 37 stafford act declarations including fire management grants to support their brave work. we are with them all the way and the president is expected to be in northern california surveying some of the damage from these unprecedented fires in washington joe khaleel. >>well california is not the only west dealing with out of control wildfires the governors of oregon and washington state say the destruction and the speed of those blazes they're dealing with our unprecedented and they're also blaming climate change for making the conditions worse. now during the virtual g 7 summit that tackles climate issues. house speaker nancy pelosi said global challenges such as climate crisis and the covid pandemic can only be solved if the countries work together. >>this is not the work of a single you're single nation. but instead requires a collective long-term commitment to enjoy the benefits of climate action are shared by all as the covid-19
7:22 am
pandemic has shown. we can only solve the challenges facing a global community with a coordinated international response. until the virus and the climate crisis are addressed everywhere. you're not solved anywhere. >>pelosi also spoke of the vulnerability and hardships that develop one that developed nations are facing from the climate crisis and how those dangers will impact them. the most. still ahead this morning will the poor air quality keep the niners off the field at levi's today. we'll have the latest developments coming up after the break. managing type 2 diabetes?

7:25 am
>>good morning welcome back time for sports the forty-niners of waited 7 months to get back on the field since that bitter defeat in the super bowl against the chiefs. the defending nfc champs may have to wait a little longer because of the lousy air air in the air quality kickoff against the cardinals is set for one 25 at levi's today but the air quality is questionable. let's take a look at the air quality there right now in the nfl threshold is 200 and right now for santa clara you can see it is one 90 this early in the morning, so right now doesn't look good, but we'll see moving to the game to tomorrow making it a monday game is also an option of course we'll stay on top of this for you to find out what happens between now and kickoff. turning to

7:31 am
later this morning, the shot from the bay bridge toll plaza yesterday we had a lot more gora ground fog. this go around just covering up as you can see the east bay hills quite a bit here is the coverage area. you can see extends very far inland as well and that will mix out again fairly quickly. we still left with some hazy sunshine because some fog a lot not so much of the surface but upstairs was pushed in from the south and that's going continue to pollute our skies aloft for this afternoon. and as you can see as we get to tonight here comes the fog back again to start the mixing process. this is what it looks like in the big wide view we don't expect this kind of traffic to make it here until midweek with all of that might even get some sprinkles up there on the north bay potentially 50's we have across most of the region 62 for antioch we've got 57 for concord and livermore breaking today down here. no delays this morning out of sfo by the way, but the cloudy skies give way to somewhat partly cloudy then hazy into your afternoon course going to the 4 zone
7:32 am
forecast for you and the extended coming up in about marty all right dave. thank you. well, 5 of the largest wildfires in california history of currently burning in the state that's prompted governor newsome to demand immediate action on climate change. >>now on friday as he toured the wildfire destruction in butte county. the governor ordered cow epa and natural resources agency the true figure out how to move up the mandated timelines to increase green energy use and decrease carbon emissions. california originally aimed to be carbon free by 2045. but now the governor says that's not soon enough. >>this is a climate dam emergency the debate is over around climate change. just come to the state of california. observe it with your own eyes. >>the governors also signed a new law that allows qualified inmates to become professional firefighters once they're released from prison. that law goes into effect on january 1st. let's firts say the prolonged exposure to this
7:33 am
toxic air can have a lasting and negative impact on our health and also increase our chances of catching the coronavirus. >>because while star smoke increases the risk for lower respiratory tract infections and given that we're in the middle of the pandemic i worry that the exposure to this bear is increasing the risk of covid-19. >>so if you must go out doctors advise you wearing and 95 or surgical mask and if you only have a cloth mask to where they say you should wash it. every time you go outside because smoke particles can get trapped in the material. other news this morning in the east bay oakland police are searching for a suspect in a fatal stabbing. it happened just before midnight on friday where police found a man who had been stabbed on 35th avenue in the fruitvale district paramedics rushed the man to the hospital where he died later in surgery. so far police have not released the man's name nor any suspect information anyone with any details are urged to call oakland police. now to the

north bay where a high speed chase ended with the driver crashing and injuring 2 female passengers who are in the vehicle at the time with him. the 19 year-old male driver reached speeds of up to 90 miles an hour before crashing into a building. the car then burst into flames officers were able to save all 4 passengers. the 2 female passengers were injured and taken to santa rosa memorial hospital, one male passenger sustained minor injuries. the driver was arrested for felony evading police and reckless driving. it was another deadly day of the coronavirus pandemic here in the bay area's the state health department reported 17 new deaths in alameda county 13 more in santa clara county. let's take a look now at the latest numbers for you in the bay area there now been more than 92,000 confirmed cases of covid-19 and more than 1200 people have died from the virus. in california, there are 750,000 cases more than
7:35 am
14,000 deaths. now despite the growing numbers in california the rate of positive tests over the past 2 weeks has dropped slightly to 3.9%. many colleges and universities across the country are open for in person instruction and that of course increases the risk of exposing students to covid-19 3 college students in new mexico have come up with a new method to try and help keep the virus from spreading on campus. and they say if it's right near pocket. francesca washington explains how it works. >>an app for aggies made by aggies so every few chase you get to it. >>and we. i'm from i say i've out the it's about my app and i hopefully he's well over the summer 3 in msu computer science students created an app specifically for contact tracing on campus a loss to collect the gps location of people were down on congress so that we know where the
7:36 am
where for what you know the time the app only works on campus and it gives users the option to allow the gps tracking or to check in manually allow them to basically we caught meeting where they are. >>i take in. and take out users can report when they get tested and the results developers say only the health center team has access to personal information when somebody puts positive. >>we can go back into the into the bays and see who else was within 6 feet for a period of time that police 15 minutes and once they know that they know who needs to be contacted and mister just email us a chance to unions in the embassy, its even the boys. >>going in there if they may i got come back with a a community in. thank you. >>the app was just released yesterday, but they're hopeful students will download it and do their part to keep the
7:37 am
campus healthy is one component cohen michael says kind clear that the thing i miss you. >>to provide a safe environment on >>well that was friend just go washington reporting for us this morning, new mexico state university says it's working with other schools across new mexico to develop similar apps for their campuses as well. well still ahead this morning is trials for covid-19 vaccine continue the cdc is already making plans. >>on how they're going to get those vaccines to the public will have more on oscar the grouch here to tell you, yeah, you,
7:38 am
7:39 am
to wear a mask out in public around other people. sure it'll keep you healthy. but more importantly, i won't have to see your happy smiling face. ugh. and if you don't want to wear a mask, i've just got one thing to tell you. scram, go away. ugh. caring for each other because we are all in this together. so wear a mask and have a rotten day, will ya?
7:40 am
ugh. >>in national news this morning congress is working to avoid a repeat of last year's government shutdown especially in the middle of a pandemic our washington based correspondent basil john has more on this new preventative measure that's being put in place. >>the clock is ticking for congress to prevent another government shutdown at the end of september near is under no circumstance. >>any. >>room for us face a potential government shutdown again virginia congresswoman abigail spanberger says the proactive discussion between the house and the trump administration is reassuring but certainly having those conversations before we are at the brink of a shutdown is incredibly important both house democrats and republicans say last year shutdown should never be repeated. pennsylvania congressman mike kelly i would be shot. >>if we reach september 30th
7:41 am
and there's no agreement the streets i don't think anybody's and managed to let that happen both spanberger and kelly see a shutdown on top of the current pandemic would be too much for many americans to handle to keep the roof over their head to keep food on their table and be able to fund them in a way that they can still afford to raise their families without having to worry about losing their home few things are worse than than doubling. >>the the negative impact across our communities by by risking a government shutdown. >>house speaker nancy pelosi and u.s. secretary steve mnuchin are still in talks on the continuing resolution that avoids conflict reporting in washington. i'm be-all john. >>and the november election less than 2 months away now lawmakers say there's practically no chance that another covid-19 stimulus bill will be proposed anytime soon. this week, not one democratic senator voted for the republican stimulus bill and there been no further negotiations since then instead congress is now turning its focus to passing a
7:42 am
short-term spending bill that will keep the government funded before they head home for the election day. >>look at high temperatures going on today morning with a lot of 70's in and around the immediate they have to take care of this fog first 80's for those in the valleys look at your 4 zone forecast and the extent that is next.
7:43 am
7:44 am
>>good morning welcome back to air outside in the bad air quality at the top of our list of what we want to know today
7:45 am
so let's get it from days far heidi okay, good morning marty good morning, everybody, i'm worst deal with the very early this morning even out sfo not causing any delays here it's about it up against the coast of the coastal areas have that dense fog advisory in order to clean out the fog we're going to clean out the air mass here that we have we really need some fronts dropping south we're not going to get that to the latter portion of the week, however, the early part of the week will be treated to this onshore flow will have the fog in the morning. that will throw droplets in the atmosphere start the mixing process and so forth but it's still going to be slow going. we probably won't get them at a moderate category with the air quality until we get to about tuesday or so is what it looks like. looking ahead for what's happening son optically if you will in the water brought her picture of everything you can see wednesday is when things start to get rock a little bit with success of fronts coming by this may actually produce a couple sprinkles up in the north bay, but in any case it will be certainly circulate in the air mass force much more so than we've seen a little while nice to get the morning
7:46 am
fog and all but we need something with some teeth in it to really get the air moving vertically and we just don't have that right now upper 90's cover a lot of the inland valleys here we can see 68 for a high san francisco. so it's little cooler with the onshore flow 83 down to a san diego and 73 for l a x now getting to the 4 zone forecast for you 68 san francisco, mid 60's cover the coast. along the peninsula. bayside we'll get some lower 70's working in here burning game about 73. now to the south but 81 or so palo alto 77 covering redwood city and 78 for mountain view. santa clara valley, it's lower 80's going on for today. morgan hill 8783 los gatos and for the east bay shoreline to the south lower to middle 70's. we'll do the upper 80's out to tri valley doubling about 85 87 walnut creek 88 going on for concord 75 for san leandro and 74 richmond up in the north bay you can bring about the 90's it's still 80's going on in places like vacaville. the laos, 7576 benicia 80 coming in for napa
7:47 am

9:01 am
meanwhile up to the north bay and 61 san jose. the much advertised on shore flow with us as we speak and it's going continue to suppress temperatures a little bit more so than we saw yesterday. this is already starting to change for comparison sake, we're a touch cooler across the mid bay, you'll notice here the we were this time yesterday. it may not penetrate the inland valleys as much today that will happen later probably by monday. but the flow pattern is in place that fog by the way could a lot more intense tomorrow watch this first thought mixes out for today. there we have it we'll have the hazy sunshine going today is typical look at the progress this fog spilling into the central valley little bit too and that's only by 01:00am so this is thicker. we'll take it it's going to cool us off a little bit it will help start to nip away a little bit just bit by bit away from what we have in terms of all that soot up in the air. it's not the same thing as a front though that would really nice clean us out nice though, here's what breaks down 4.80 by 1 o'clock
9:02 am
we're still negotiating to the fog clouds here, partly cloudy by one by 4 hazy sunshine about 82. closer inspection your forecast coming up in a bit part in a while. >>all right dave thanks a lot of wealthy areas so unhealthy in the bay area that health officials are recommending that everyone stay inside in last absolutely necessary kron four's reyna harvey one of those unfortunately is outside this morning. she's joining us live from along the embarcadero here in san francisco. reyna you've kind of popped around. >>across the bay, how are the conditions out here in san francisco. >>good alum rda for people out here. there are a lot more people out here in san francisco, then in berkeley are over in emeryville so you can see that people are putting that with the conditions out here trying to still get their exercise in. >>and i bet that the next day that we have really good air quality we're just going to take it in and embraced that. but here's the moment of truth where you can really see just how thick the smoke is we're going to show you there as i

zoom into the bay bridge. you can barely see it as i was driving along trying to get into the city. it was difficult to see visibility is very low. i mention you have all of that fog that's mixing in. but you still have people out here running and exercising and still doing of that nature. but besides being here like i mentioned i was also over every hill along with a berkeley and air quality is horrible still purple across the map or in the 200 to 100 ranger worst day of the week. it was thursday where we had air conditions that were in the 300 set up or 400 i was looking at the purple dot com and different places out of the bay area or even worse that saw some places up in oregon ever like 400 plus so you know it could be worse. it is still pretty bad. i spoke to some people who are out exercising and this is what one gentleman said about the
9:04 am
air quality now it's a really just inconvenienced him take a listen. >>i'm lucky you know my work situation and home situation it's not too hard for me to adjust and just kind of roll with the punches these days so as much as i can i try keep inside. but i i still want to get out, you know i want to go out for a round i want to ride my bike around town. >>back out here live along the embarcadero and you see that exactly what people are doing out running out biking out walking out walking their pets, everyone still try to get some exercise in especially as the weekend, you know people are getting ready to start work. come monday and so people are still trying to do all these things however know that if you are going to be out here. you are going to be working out exercising. they're doing any of those things you put yourself at risk, it's just it is what it is. >>so if you can minimize your time outdoors and have to be

9:06 am
really really lows. time for you to get back inside for sure thanks i agree think >>well happening today, several centers are going to be open across the bay area to help people get some relief from the unhealthy air in the east bay oakland has several centers, including the 81st street library they're going to be open from one to 07:00pm saint vincent de paul on san pablo avenue will be open from 09:00am to 03:00pm dimond library on fruitvale avenue will be open from noon until 07:00pm and the north oakland senior center on martin luther king junior way will be open from noon until 05:00pm all of these locations are going to be staffed by oakland city workers. >>and in the south bay to clean air centers are available as well they're located at the bascom community center and that ali community branch library, both of those sites will be open from 10 until 6. they both have water wi fi and power outlets and they're both reminding you that social distancing is required.

going on here but again slow to get there, you know overnight one of the issues that developed we did have this onshore flow. it helped. we had new smoke aloft being sent to us from the south a little bit. this live shot coming in from sfo, no delays happening there have been seeing the traffic all this morning going on, but certainly the fog we can call it small aug at hand most readings in the 50's and some 60's to be head off to the east bay here 61 san jose but were actually a little cooler this morning across the mid bay. then we were yesterday and that cooling trend will continue through today. the words will be a little cooler than we were yesterday even though in some spots are sky conditions, maybe a little better. now this is the throat clearing kind of system out to the west we don't get the full impact of this into the latter portion of this week. but it's funny kind of frontal deliver the kind of stuff we get in the winter. but because the season is so early the impact for us this far south will not be as great as would be hypothetically if this were december january february. so it's further to the north but at least it will come dropping tore across our region give us

>>good morning, everybody welcome back to kron 4 morning news. we're taking a from walnut creek this morning as we continue to focus on this unhealthy air quality around the bay that does not long definitely don't want to be standing out there idle year. >>really even exercising out that way dave spahr standing by with a check of our
9:31 am
forecast a bit just not look at all has also fog too but you have a smoggy conditions were dealing with it's really something that's going to be around protecting even it looks like for the next couple days. >>air quality doesn't show any real sign of changing maybe until we get around tuesday, we get the moderate category perhaps later in the week things get a little bit more exciting. bay bridge toll plaza shot we have the overcast skies storm places you'll notice here. again progress on the fog has been slow going this morning even encroaching in some of the inland areas and then mixing hours you can see. and by the afternoon shore but look at the gets early tonight just after the witching hour, it's spilling into the sacramento valley, very nicely. these are good events to get short helps a little bit it's just chipping away at it we need to a nice front to help clean things out nicely we do have a success of the systems out to the pacific a little give us a couple of ways by the end of the weekend maybe have a more pronounced change for us 60's across much of the geography
9:32 am
in the east bay 50's up to the north 61 meanwhile for san jose and for comparison sake were already trailing across the mid bay for right now we expected to be a little cooler today because of that on shore flow that continues to invite that fog and give aug 79 by 1 o'clock by 4 hazy sunshine and a t coming up in a bit we'll check into the 4 zone forecast back to you. >>and stay of 5 of the largest wildfires in california's history are currently burning across the state and it's prompted governor newsome to demand immediate action on climate change on friday. the governor toured wild lot wildfire destruction and butte county and he ordered county pa and natural resources energy to figure out how to move up mandated timelines. >>to increase in green energy use and dust and decrease carbon emissions. city california originally aimed to be carbon free by 2045, but now the governor says that's not soon enough. >>this is a climate dam emergency. the debate is over
9:33 am
around climate change just come to the state of california. observe it with your own eyes. >>well the governor also signed a new law that allows qualified inmates to become professional firefighters once they're released from prison that law goes into effect in january. now to the east bay this morning, oakland police are looking for a suspect in a fatal stabbing. it happened just before midnight on friday where police found a man who had been stabbed on 35th avenue in the fruitvale district paramedics took him to the hospital, but he later died in surgery, so far police have not yet released the man's name. nor any information about a suspect they're asking that anyone with any details call the oakland police department. in the north bay high speed chase ended with a driver crashing and injuring 2 female passengers who were in the car with him. the 19 year-old reached speeds of up to 90 miles an hour before he crashed into the building and that's at the building in the flames you can see in those
9:34 am
photos. officers were able to save all 4 passengers. the 2 female passengers were injured and taken to santa rosa memorial hospital, one male passenger sustained some minor injuries. the driver has been arrested for felony evading police and reckless driving. >>it was another deadly day of the coronavirus pandemic here in the bay area, the state health department reports 17 new deaths in alameda county and 13 in santa clara county here are the latest numbers in the bay area there have now been more than 92,000 confirmed cases of covid-19 more than 1200 people have died across california there have now been 750,000 coronavirus cases reported more than 14,000 deaths due to covid-19 despite the growing numbers in our state the rate of positive tests over the last 2 weeks has dropped slightly to 3.9%. for your help this morning. the cdc has come up with a covid-19 vaccine dosing schedule that
9:35 am
could have millions of people getting their shot by december well, but it's a very complicated equation that counts on shipping. >>storage availability and risk level and then you combine that with all the trial results for the different vaccine candidates. dina bair has more on how it might look. >>as students head back to school. and employers increasingly welcome returning workers. it becomes even more critical for herd immunity. the key to that lies in a vile with an injection that offers immunity to sars covid 2 the virus that causes covid-19 there are several candidates scientist at various pharmaceutical companies and universities are giving to study participants as phase 3 trial results begin to trickle in. experts say every state should prepare to invite residents to get their vaccine as early as october. the process tested and perfected back in the 20 '09 h one n one flu pandemic so i think the first option is there.
9:36 am
>>so some polls we have a reasonable amount they beginning. it could be a smalls process, the federal government will initially by all available viable vaccines. medical offices, hospitals and pharmacies must enroll in a vaccination program for the right to administer the initial shots. >>confirming they have staff and proper facilities. the cdc advisory committee on immunization practices says as those vaccine doses are shipped across the country. they should go immediately to big cities with large populations. frontline medical workers and first responders older people and those with comorbidities like asthma diabetes heart disease high blood pressure and obesity. we'll get priority since they're likely to get sick or with a covid-19 diagnosis there will have to entire. >>process he's developed to figure out how we're going to
9:37 am
patients identified what's challenging is we have a lot of people that are high risk they may not be tied into health and how are they gonna to come in where to go how easy is it to turn spring that the patience and most of the experimental vaccines require 2 doses given a month apart. >>so far 2 of 7 study vaccines are rising to the top a 3rd promising trial was halted just this week as a study participant got sick. the 2 leading candidates do not have preservatives and therefore their temperature sensitive moderna's vaccine arrives at -4 degrees fahrenheit and can be stored for 2 weeks in a regular refrigerator. but pfizer shot requires a -94 degree storage temperature which may impact where it's distributed in mass pfizer will shift doses in special containers with dry ice which must be replaced every 5 days. hospitals typically have sufficient cold storage this is going to be a little bit
9:38 am
more complicated depending on the some of the vaccines have to and with the nation can or at very low and most. >>clinical practices don't have the capacity to deal with that in addition to vaccines supply kits with needles syringes alcohol pads and surgical masks will be shipped to distribution sites. >>so here's the potential schedule if both vaccines are proving safe in trials 3 million doses will be shipped in october that wraps up to 20 to 30 million in november with another 45 million arriving in december for a total of potentially 78 million vaccinations if there's a hitch with either top candidate only one to 2 million doses will go out in october with 10 to 20 million by november and 15 to 30 million by december. in the best-case scenario here 52 million people will get a vaccine. i think it's very important to have a meeting
9:39 am
transparent process and started reporting procedure. >>or any of these related this mission. because we need process that is needed trust parents when the safety recalls and warnings people being made of confidence on safety office that's. >>that was enough there reporting the distribution depends on the current trials continuing without delay and the manufacturing process running smoothly. speaking of covid-19 vaccine trials oxford university says it plans to restart its trial tests. the trial was put on hold after a patient in the uk reported side effects the university has been working with astrazeneca on developing a vaccine. they say in large trials, some people will become ill and every case must be carefully evaluated to ensure careful assessment of safety. so far more than 18,000 people have received the vaccine. the oxford astrazeneca vaccine is seen as

>>good morning, welcome back it's 9.44 and we're going to check in with dave >>okay good morning guys, good morning, everybody live shot coming in from sfo we still kind of have that hasan all out there were very familiar with going on an sfo at no delays happening this morning what will be really a game changer for us upstream as the systems coming in from the northwest and this will happen by mid week, onward, even generate pratt 10 shalee some showers up in the north bay but will real like it's going to really circulate the atmosphere a little bit for dick lee and that's what's going to be a big game changer. this is what it looks like the forecast models first part of the week not as exciting as we get to the latter portion of it then we see some opportunities for rain but the deal is it starting to move the air vertically and calms down in time a little bit for the weekend. temperatures for highs today, we've got this central valley pretty much unaffected by the onshore flow still up there in the upper 90's closer to the bay we're getting some of that impact at 68 san francisco, 71 l a x and big bear 83 san diego. so your
9:46 am
4 zone forecast 68 for san francisco to the coast to middle 60's will do it. one the peninsula bayside upper 60's, some lower 70's here and we even can scrounge up an 81 for palo alto 77 for redwood city and mountain view at 78 santa clara valley lower 80's today about 87 for morgan hill, a scout us about 8380 also milpitas and for the east bay shoreline mid 70's, try valleys looking at upper 80's 85 for dublin, 87 for walnut creek concord 8874 for oakland and up to the north bay solano county mid 80's 76 benicia 75 84 napa and 81 for santa rosa, but compliments of the onshore flow we're keeping in the 70's as we head down to are in so tomorrow inland action even drop off temperature wise because of the same weather pattern we've been talking about as we get into the rest of the week we start to clear out the atmosphere a little bit. and temperatures a little cooler in the lower 80's that that may be a chance of some rain up in the north bay but cleaning up the atmosphere is the name of the game. well. we
