9:30 am
for you. throughout the throughout the morning and also on kron on an oh well so many people feel like they know alex. first name i feel like i know him i mean you grew up watching him on on on jeopardy, which jeopardy the their twitter account is. >>what we're going off of here with this with this news of his passing they they say jeopardy is saddened to share that alex trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning surrounded by family and friends. thank you alex, which i think that that's i mean it's a big thank you write, i feel like i learned so much from that show and from him and it's felt like he was america's because taking a look there at the at the screen from the from the tweet but yeah he showed us so much over the years. >>and the his demeanor on the air was always one of just just grace and class and you felt like you knew him like you said felt like he knew we will continue to follow up on on this breaking news here but again alex trebek has passed away at the age of 80 this morning. we want to switch
9:31 am
gears and talk about the weather forecast and dave's here with that high day you know what could be also referenced but i have not able to find a source for that sad news this morning, good morning, everybody. >>we are looking at kind of breezy like conditions as well as we have our day today looks like those winds will be with us through much of today with to about 4 o'clock that wind advisory will be hanging with us in terms of that. let's go take look at the satellite picture. it's basically that low that's still kind of caught in her backyard here a little bit providing a bit of an onshore flow actually for now, but it will turn more offshore but remain cool 50's across the region, there. billy hold 49. 50's you can see across the greater real estate we are actually technically a little warmer than yesterday by a degree or so however we're not going to maintain that probably into the afternoon as we're going to be very much in line with the cool temperatures. this is what's going on in the mountains a winter storm warnings you see the red in advisory we see the blues we could see as much as a foot of snow this will go through today before that shuts down
9:32 am
wake-up planner yeah we're moving to the 40's into the 50's by high noon might see some lower 60's and there by mid-afternoon is all much mister back. when we see rain again we'll have it on the forecast when a broadcaster, good canadian good pipes. he will be missed back to you. this morning it appears that we have a winner in the 2020 election and with that comes a new round of questions such as who will joe biden now pick for his cabinet and what those first 100 days are going to look like that's right here in california governor gavin newsome will need to pick a replacement now for harris in the senate. >>and for all of this and more we're turning to our political analyst michael yaki good morning to you michael. >>good morning and in just a little bit on alex trebek's job when i was working for nancy pelosi, one of our favorite things to do if there's a break in our evening schedule in jeopardy was on the sit in your living room and compete against each so.
9:33 am
>>i feel i feel like that's kind of how always trying and to answer the question what michael let's talk a little bit about what happens now right. we talked yesterday with you with reaction in regards to joe biden and kamala harris winning the election here but now there's a lot of work to be done but they're still counting going on in this election. so what's going to be happening over these next couple of days and weeks. >>well actually there's going to be a difference in accounting going on january 5th which has tremendous impact on by the administration and what it chooses to do going forward. if they can get. the 2 senate seats in georgia that changes the entire equation for how the binding ministration we'll do we'll deal with its cabinet picks because it's one thing to have a cabinet. that's confirmed by. >>chuck schumer it's another thing never cabinet confirmed by mitch mcconnell and you could have siri which you don't want do is start off your administration giving me
9:34 am
captive by mitch mcconnell with cabinet people who you really want to be part of your agenda moving forward, so that's going to be that's going to land some uncertainty going forward they're going to be some it's i'm sure that will be i would call them the safe picks people who they would expect to be cut confirm either schumer mcconnell senate but there's going to be some stuff i think it's going to be left up in the air a little bit because of that because that going forward but first and foremost it's going to be about that and everything is going to be about the pandemic the flip side of that that strategy for the pandemic has to have and economic strategy as well whether it's how you deal with helping businesses moving forward. how you reassure them that this will be some. offhand mask mandate, but something that really targeted. these are the kinds of things that they're wrestling with between now in january 20th and they should probably have a good plan ready to start betting trial
9:35 am
balloon mean probably within the next 2 weeks. >>and michael one of the things joe biden mentioned last night in his speech was the fact that he was going to form this pandemic team beginning tomorrow, let's go ahead and give a let give that a listen. >>the gadget getting covid under control. we cannot we heard the economy restore vitality. a raleigh life's most precious moments ago, not grandchildren our children, our birthdays weddings graduations. it's a matter most to us until we get it under control. on monday. i will a group of leading scientists and experts as transition advice. college planning. converter and no actual blueprint. >>michael we're wondering what your your your thoughts are on on what president elect biden had to say in regards to making that team so swiftly.
9:36 am
>>i think i think he had to do it and there's there's so much work that needs to be done that hasn't been done by this administration if you really look at his plan and i study that and. it requires several key elements, one is a national contact workforce will be that will be sort of rapid response delegated to local local health authorities to help them do the contact tracing that's really it is going to like could be up to 100,000 people being hired. second is going to be a much more robust rapid testing facility so people can get tested on the ongoing, not just because when they're not feeling well because again this is about identifying early and doing containment early on and then 3rd is going to be the the leg of what kind of economic support do we need we look at look at the fact there are hundreds of thousands perhaps millions of people out there who who can't pay their rent because they're in the lower wage area they
9:37 am
were in at the restaurants and small businesses that have all been been laid off. that's going to that's going to be a bump that's going to be hitting. around january 1st with which you don't want to do is be taking office with hundreds thousands of people losing their homes so these are the kinds of things that they're going to have to be were you working on between now and then because of the very minimum. they need to give assurance. to the to the markets to the housing markets to that to business owners that help is going to be on the way and to reassure people that they're doing everything they can to create a national comprehensive make strategy from that that will go to the state and local level and. you bring this your crush crush the virus crush the curve. so that we can reverse certainly these huge spikes we're seeing right now 100,000 cases a day. reese were climbing over 239,000 dead. you know these are things that. prior
9:38 am
administration just simply ignored. >>and michael is part of that strategy, the elephant in the room is going to be the pr attempt to try and get people to take the politics out of wearing masks and distancing. >>and i think that's where biden has to talk about that that's where the issue of unity and healing is going to be part of that because no one is to know when to try to take when anybody is freedom. we're simply trying to take away your you're in for an ability to kill somebody by mistake. i mean that's really what it's all about i'm asking about making sure you don't kill your best friend or your or your parents or just a neighbor or someone that you meet at the grocery store. i think that's the kind of thing that a mask does it's not about restraining your ability to be who you are and some people think that but i think that the more that message gets out the more they try and normalize that the more they work with state and local governments to get them on
9:39 am
board because it's going to be. >>their leadership is going to be important to making this happen. >>that's that's how they're going to get the mask mandate out there. >>michael obviously we did see large groups of people gathering yesterday in celebration of the results coming in so i'm crossing my fingers and we all are kind of hoping that that our virus count states down but we have been seeing a surge so it's like you said in the president elect best interest to start that team and start really taking the virus seriously we do want to talk of quickly about president trump he tweeted this morning he's been tweeting a little bit since the results yesterday but his tweet this morning said quote we should look at the votes were just beginning the tabulation stage we should look at these allegations we are seeing a number of affidavits that there has been voter fraud. we have a history in this country of election problems in pennsylvania, you had in order by a supreme court justice to compel them to separate ballots that were
9:40 am
received after the legislative deadline it required the intervention of justice alito that's a large group of the ballots. when you talk about systemic problems. it's about all of these things i guess is what is what the president is saying he has a series of tweets this morning when you see this type of of conversation continuing to happen and he clearly is not conceding just yet what do you expect to come out of these lawsuits that he and his campaign have been filing. >>where there's the legal and there's the there's the political i think legally most of these lawsuits are going to get. nothing in terms of the time of day from the courts because. elections are run not by joe biden not run by kamala harris, the run by states and local local county clerks and local county registrars we have in california and each one they are required to have independent observers from both were from both major parties and in the end the an
9:41 am
independent to review their work that's going on nothing of that stuart has been alleged to been missing. in these counts and the fact that. pretty much everything at the prison said in that tweet was was either a lie or mislead. yes, the ballots were segregated that came in after 3 came in after the election but. they were not counted. the victim projection that gave. joe biden victory in pennsylvania was that based any of those ballots in the state kerry of state and the attorney general of pennsylvania made that very clear. the idea that year-old you you're always going to have a few in just a voter fraud. probably an amount that you can count on one hand i've done so many hearings on the issue of voter and election fraud at the u.s. commission on civil rights and it comes down to this. it may happen. it does happen occasionally, but can it affect an election absolutely not the percentage
9:42 am
could be in the cans that is 160 million votes cast. that's not going to do it but they're trying to bootstrap everything they can and i think courts are going to realize that they really don't have a leg to stand on the process worked which have relations has has worked a few a few instances here and there are not going to throw out the election then it gets the political and the political is when are people going to go can go to that make it clear to the president. he's on an island by himself on this. when it went as mitch mcconnell when is kevin mccarty when winner, chuck grassley winner that when is the national republican committee basically going to say look you know you can lose with grace but you can lose like a spoiled spoiled child. and spoiled child is not what is good for this democracy. there's there's a transition that need to happen you still need to be president for 73 more days which includes dealing with the coronavirus the thing that may happen. so you know at
9:43 am
some point every intervention has to happen. ok michael we're going to have to end it there but thank you so much for joining us a fascinating times as always advanced non-small cell lung cancer can take away so much. but today there's a combination of two immunotherapies you can take first. one that could mean... a chance to live longer. opdivo plus yervoy is for adults newly diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer that has spread and that tests positive for pd-l1 and does not have an abnormal egfr or alk gene. it's the first and only approved chemo-free combination of two immunotherapies that works together in different ways to harness the power of the immune system. opdivo plus yervoy equals a chance for more days. more nights. more beautiful weekends. more ugly sweaters. more big hugs. more small outings. opdivo and yervoy can cause your immune system to attack normal organs and tissues in your body and affect how they work. this may happen during or after treatment has ended and can become serious and lead to death. some of these problems may happen more often when opdivo is used with yervoy. see your doctor right away if you have a new or worse cough;

>>breaking news to tell you just in to the kron 4 news room that is jeopardy host alex trebek has passed away at the age of 80. the game show host had been gracing our screens on television ever since 1984. and it was last year that he revealed he had
9:46 am
stage 4 pancreatic cancer. that's right in a press release this morning, the show jeopardy said in part. >>we are saddened to share that alex trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning surrounded by family and friends. he was 80 years old and as we mentioned he's been on our television screens and in our living rooms every night you know on week nights see he made me smarter that's for sure i came here, it was loved watching the you know college series of the celebrity series. sometimes it's really. >>it was a show that i that i learned a lot from he really was the nation's educator and he made so many of us much smarter just by watching him and listening to him every single night dave, i know you're a big fan as well. >>yeah and he just had a style that you just don't see that there's often they will be missed. good morning guys, good morning, everyone but cool we have this going on in for this week ahead too. the only thing is we're hoping to see some rain towards the end
9:47 am
of the week, so let's hope that that does come together and we kind of teased little bit of that last weekend we did get a few little rain showers this looks a little better we'll show you some of the models here coming up in a bit. first things first live shot from u c berkeley there's the east bay shoreline all it up nicely we still have this low in her backyard here a little bit. we might see a little wrinkle produce a shower perhaps for the east bay and down to the south bay kind of drifting on through and some exhaust clouds maybe late this afternoon. so if you see them kind of painting your skies a little bit. it's just a little wrinkle that's wrapped up in all of this 50's across much of the real estate 49 for valais hope 52 for a livermore we've got the mid to upper 50's lining up the east bay shoreline. highs today while get a load of this we don't use these colors very often except in the winter and that's what it feels like look at all the blues going on here 57 sacramento highs, 57 going on for fresno baker still 58 even down to socal 62 san diego in big bear bundle up 27 course knows happening our
9:48 am
mountains up north as well futurecast for ok let's get to a one stop here about tuesday. might see a little stray shower or 2 ok we're little wrinkle that said it moves on through. pretty clear through most of the week here and then this is interesting we get to around bell friday morning, it looks like just past midnight. some showers developing in here. let's go forward this is the juice your stuff moving on through. this is a friday evening, hopefully. moves through overnight and we clears out for our weekend coming up 4 zone forecast for your sunday, 58 san francisco 50's covering the coast. bayside we're into 60 ish at least in the north. much the same down south harvey budget 61 for palo alto santa clara valley, upper 50's to near about 60 if you're lucky again east bay shoreline to the south it's middle to upper 50's tri valley pretty much the same we see this type of climate. the winner a lot to we have winds going on it circulates the air mass or rain will do this to us 59 for wannacry 55 for berkeley solano county approaching 6058
9:49 am
delay ho nap at 6063 for santa rosa. so for the week ahead in the seven-day forecast. almost persistence with the forecast least part of it here we have that wrinkle tuesday and then thursday friday waiting for that rain to develop. we keep the temperatures much the same for the bay lower 60's and for the coast, maybe some chilly 50's thrown in there, but it looks like there's a trend here towards the end by saturday of a little bit of warming back to you. all right dave thanks a lot continuing cover this historic presidential race joe biden on top beating donald trump kamala harris of course. >>his running mate making history as well, let's go ahead and check in with san jose state lecturer in political science. donna crane, donna good morning. understand that you are a working right now as a poll watcher in nevada what's that experience been like. >>that's right on the campus observer here and by the way. we have snow on the ground here in reno this or now so i'm assigned to a rural county. it's a totally a volunteer gig. and what i have
9:50 am
been trained in what's sort what about a law is and i've been trained about in the process so i go to a rural county and i go to the county clerk's office and it's my job to oversee them as they process any ballots. how is that process been for you because i think a lot of people are curious about how all of this works right we've been sitting and watching for for 6 days now as as the ballots come in under counted. so can you talk to me just about that process for you and how it's been. >>yeah, you bet, so it's actually been an eventual so far i'm in a very rural location the county clerk's the counter where i observed literally handles vital statistics marriage licenses, the whole panoply of so the pictures that we see if the ballots that are being counted in clark county where there are these big warehouses with all kinds of lined up and dust. this is a much much smaller operation so in fact
9:51 am
when i went on friday and asked ok where would you like me to set up they said oh we don't have any ballots to process today word we just don't have any i said well what's the next step and they said well i'm a little come on how to tell us did you get the mail and they conferred and then they came back and said slow going well that's very charming in a way donen and those shifting gears here i want to let's let's talk now about the biden harris ticket. >>and what's what things are looking like a once they do take i would think that there's going to be a lot of executive orders that president elect joe biden will be. >>signing once he takes office. >>yes that's exactly right up so we have to remember that in order to get major legislative packages through just of cooperation from the congress and he's got a democratic house but he's got a republican senate and it says it's a senate that's led by mitch mcconnell who is a formidable opponent for democrats so i think we can expect to see a mix of states
9:52 am
with a heavy emphasis on executive actions. these are actions that any president can take unilaterally and in president elected by has already announced that he intends on day one or very soon to rejoin the paris climate accord to re engage with the world health organization to rescind the travel and 6 several other actions, including very possibly a really engaging the dhaka program for for docking undocumented immigrants who came here as children. >>donna there is obviously a runoff that's going to be happening in georgia for the senate seat there if the republicans do hold on to senate control how do you see the the 2 parties working together as we go forward. it's a really interesting situation if democrats win the 2 seats in georgia that would actually flip control of the chamber and the nation's politics would change a lot.
9:53 am
>>if democrats fail to win those 2 seats that mitch mcconnell stays in place as the senate majority leader and now she has a decision to make does he want to answer to me joe biden halfway and and strike a pose of cooperation look for areas where they can with their common ground where they can maybe passing legislation in areas of maybe covid economy maybe infrastructure, those kinds of things just mcconnell want to stick stick out kind of a tough partisan stance, oldest caucus together and serve as a former or members distance to the incoming democratic administration, the ball is kind of you know in mitch mcconnell's court today. >>well donna thank you so much for your insights just relax as you await the next mail how some ballots and thank you so much for joining us.
