>>welcome back kron 4 morning news, good morning everybody and a chilly start shore with those clear skies not much the way of winds but lots of sunshine going on for today, not just here in the home front but also up that look at that beautiful stuff for tomorrow. but with about 49
8:45 am
ers so we'll throw cloud pop in their 51 early into next week tuesday, 45 looks like it should be able to milk couple extra days off from thanksgiving live shot coming in from sfo, yes, no delays happening. they're busy busy and we keep it clear temperatures meanwhile in the 30's up to the north bay napa about what 3748 san francisco, but still some 30's in the east bay. inland i suspect next hour here than a 3rd updating this a quarterly basis but probably by the top of the hour, you'll see those numbers jump into the 40's 44 ready for and 46 half moon bay. you may recall just last hour that was in the 30's. now what is far as our major players are concerned basically it's high pressure today, no surprise with but this underscores the fact that the traffic coming into the gulf of alaska well is going get stuck and we're not going to get the real brunt of all of that in terms of bringing us any shot of rain it looks like not just today tomorrow, but really for the rest of the week in our backyard. we do have kind of the center rating system as you'll notice there
8:46 am
reinforced by monday doesn't do much good throw. some cloud cover around we might see some tomorrow too but on monday just little bit of scattered clouds now we try to get into around thursday or so we do the same thing again and then further upstream as we see into the weekend. yeah, and it's sunday it looks like we get another hit as well. now sometimes they do the reverse we see these models look real juicy for us 5 days out and so forth and they come apart might reverse that trend a little bit going forward we'll see what happens with all of that certainly is a major system up to the north of all right so look at temperatures going on for highs today, central valley, mid 60's but even down to socal. lower 70's pretty cool all the way across the state today, 63 san francisco back to 4 zone forecast the home front 63, san francisco, but the coast chilly spots to be had 59 for pacific gun the 64 half moon bay, mid 60's covered the bay side and even down south pretty much mid 60's as well. typically we see a lot of a university universal numbers going on here when we have
8:47 am
rain going on or cloudy skies, but this is with sunny skies going on and we see again a lot of familiar temperatures mid 60's in the south bay here, 67 morgan hill by the way los gatos even at 65 sometimes those areas could pop a little bit more so lower to middle 60's along the east bay shoreline tri valley, mid 60's, dublin, 64, 65 walnut creek. 65 also for oakland and solano county is pretty much in the lower to middle 60's napa 63. santa rose at 67 with mid 60's down south again, those chilly temperatures at the key a coast, 56 so definitely of the windbreaker even in the afternoon with all the sunshine or keep that sunshine boy high temperatures in the inland valleys get into the upper 60's it looks like we get to about wednesday or so but morning lows going to be chilly watch out 30's. it looks like getting close to freezing my time and have some frost up there and along the coast into the lower to middle 40's. for your health, it's
8:48 am
been 8 months since covid-19 hit and one major side effect for a lot of people has been weight gain. >>caused by turning to comfort foods were doing a lot more snacking a lot less exercise then you add the stress depression and anxiety that covid brings. and now the holidays on top of that. so you can see there's a whole new dimension to weight gain our health expert joins me this morning with some tips on how to bounce back from all these months, i've been djing and get started on healthy new relationship with food and exercising karen. so many people are talking about the quarantine 15. >>yes and so we're really from all of that and i and you know from halloween to valentine's day the average american gains 7 to 10 pound well and and this is what 5 pounds of fat looks 5 now so i so if you
8:49 am
already game 5 of these yeah then you add another, you know 10 pounds that's a lot of weight that your on the positive note. i do want to say if you do lose 5 pounds that's very significant by by looking at this. these 5 the 5 counts of that well, especially when you hold it up like that you say ok lost 5 pounds ordinarily think will not too big a deal. but you look at that you go, yeah, i'm proud of myself. >>exactly and a lot of things that you you don't see when you are weighing yourself on the scale you know we're chasing that a lucid number on the scale right and 5 counts seem like a whole lot but a lot happens inside that you don't see you know blood pressure comes down and you get your blood vessels are are so you know give yourself a break in and and considered 5 counts an emotional you feel so much better as well you certainly have more bounce your step and you you're looking at your day with the
8:50 am
with a better >>one thing that you are are recommending is not to go on a diet explain that. >>right i always say diets that put you in this negative mode of >>diet diet or what actually make you fat because you deprive yourself and then you feet you know you see over feature south after that the after effect of that so i say that 3 things that diets lead to in that deprivation pride in yourself of all your favorite foods and then defeat in you feel really bad because a lot of those the deprivations or unreasonable right and then you end up in depression and that's that cycles around you end up in this emotional eating cycle that you just can't get out there. and what you're not the dieting. >>what you're recommending instead is basically change your lifestyle. >>right changing your
8:51 am
lifestyle and and take little steps a lot of people go on these diets because they feel like they can get results and red very rapidly, yes and those are the ones that gain weight back very rapidly and 70 came up with this idea just deprive myself all week and then she on the weekend all binge on the weekends right yeah sheeting which is a negative word. but how many people want to cheat with broccoli on the that very sprouts yeah, you know karen one thing the dieters do also that that can negatively impact them as they say ok well all start on monday. >>i'll start my and i remember so so vividly my mom and some of her friends would talk about the fact that monday's coming we'll start our diet then. >>exactly you can't you you set as a goal of when you're going to start right, but you can't wait to get off so it's
8:52 am
just again that vicious cycle. so if you are following a healthy plan every day and and not in this mindset of dieting it's a lot more healthier. >>yeah and the other side of that is working out and a lot of times what some people will do myself included is well i really binged on thanksgiving. so i'm going to go an extra mile or 2 today to make up for it and as in essence, you're punishing yourself. >>you are in so that's negative. yeah and exercising should be a positive experience and reinforcing all those positive feelings of more energy and less depressed they'll a lot it's a mood enhancer so you want to exercise and you don't want it to be considered a punishment also we're looking at the screen there and says don't beat yourself up if kind of lapse on your on your meal plan. >>right and a lot of people do that they say oh i was really
8:53 am
bad another negative. >>focus the president and being in the present whatever happened before that is over and just move on from that if you if he kind always start focusing on what you did before you're always trying to play catch-up. you know it's like starting a race and being starting one mile behind everybody else and always having to catch up so you don't want to do that no exactly and the last thing that you mentioned is to acknowledge or accomplishments which is what you did at the beginning of the segment when you when you're talking about the vi pounds. >>yeah well on what you accomplished and every day no matter how small. >>of of change are making it's significant in focus on that focus on the things that you like about yourself and and that's always going to end up with a very happier, her son and better results and a nice positive outlook. karen. thank

9:02 am
>>the first loud bang >>everyone's got really fires have off saying we're well it was and as take a later we heard another shot and that's where a more relaxed and started running towards the back we thought it was like or with friends or or. >>a lot of people they were there was a lot of people having trouble trouble. >>from where they were. it was people with stroller. >>it's a lot to take into. talk to your parents and things like this might be my last i love you and for them to know that pretty scary. >>the names of the victims have not yet been released. we did first let you know about this as it was happening for kron 4 app make sure you download that you can get the latest on this investigation as we continue to follow up. >>well black friday is in the books and now today is small business because of covid local businesses do need our support more than ever. but
9:03 am
this morning we're wondering if shoppers are going to be out as they have in the past prepandemic years that's right kron four's reyna harvey is live in berkeley where the city is actually offering to help our small businesses rain, what's that all about. >>yeah that's right so the city back in march they have this fun that they put together raise money and they're reactivating that front local businesses mardy to answer that question. we've already seen a lot of people out here this morning saying that they are going to be supporting in shopping. but i've been talking to business owners and i'm joined live this morning with mister richard tat. he is an older here one of the local pubs it's caught in the wood mister tap. i know you've had a difficult time the past few much you have to lay off. several workers you also had to just have a lot of cutbacks how have things been for you and your neighbors here in berkeley. >>well the district is a great local neighborhood. it's been here for a long time and the customers really support the local businesses by 3 tile

restaurant and services i that i that the restaurant owner has been really really tough. we've had to lay off staff we will losing money the locals tied the best to come in and support us and so having a small local business. you know saturday is really really important for everyone here. >>what is your hope for today, the people that are watching you know hopeful that people are going to come out and not be afraid of what are businesses doing to keep people safe just to relieve that fear that some people had to leave in their houses. >>well the weather is important for us as a restaurant. with outside dining and having a beautiful day like today in the cold evenings with everyone's got heaters so hopefully people come out and izzy outside it's hard being going up and down you know inside outside >>and the changes with the health department of state regulations. i think most of
9:05 am
most of us are trying to survive some line you got to innovate and you've got to innovate and adapt. >>and i think that's one of the things everyone will take out you in the future years >>his told us something that we've got to do that the local customers coming in supporting a local business is a really really important and critical to the survival i know the city they have that fun going on, but i was talking with one of the local business owners. she was saying you know while that line is great and it's amazing it with the city is doing. >>it's still when you divide that money that 3 million that they're putting up and run raise more. it doesn't. when you try to divide amongst the businesses it is still not enough to keep all the businesses afloat so that's why it's critical that folks come out in support the the thing that the thing that happened early on in april may with the federal government the pp lines that kept everyone a lot that kept us
9:06 am
going right now what we need is we need the second round coming up winter is going to be terrible especially for restaurants, also for rita. >>you know people can go indoors anymore so that is critical that we we need some sort of funding local state and federal to keep us going and then once we're in spring. we're on our on wilson will do well. but we've got to get to spring. thank you so much for playing it in that perspective my life took a lot like that. seoul. >>we were talking about earlier or people are going to feel comfortable not only time will tell as the day goes on and talk to a lot of people who say it's really important that they come out and support and people are planning to bring their family members out and so we're out here talking to the business owners first and the use that support and they're just asking people to come out like mister tab just mention the winter months, it's very critical for a lot of these businesses it being cold. so if people come out today you hear the safety precautions that these businesses are taking to the
