san francisco and san mateo counties in just a moment, but first we want to check in and get our first look at the weather forecast with dave spahr you don't there marty good morning and good morning, everybody off to ober another cold start again, you know the gloves maybe even mitten shore lots of 30's to be found out there. and this is what the side of things to come for a lot of the week ahead, but at least we get that afternoon sunshine that makes up for all of that live shot coming in from the golden gate bridge little bit of offshore wind it looks like from the flag and there you have it at half moon bay also just a little bit of haze and off to a mostly sunny day there look at those temperatures 29 this hour santa rosa. we've got 32 for nevado 30 going on for napa 36 for any aac and lower 40's line up the east bay shoreline with 34 for free much we're a touch warmer in some spots this morning touch cooler and some others. but it looks like it's a minor improvement now look ahead for your day to day after we get out of the 30's we zoom right up to 57 by 11 at 2 o'clock some high clouds trying to stream in here for
7:02 am
the late afternoon at 63 with a closer look at your forecast coming up in just a bit party, sounds good dave let's get back to our top story this morning, the covid surge has play san francisco and san mateo counties in the most restrictive purple tier that means increased lockdown measures are now in place for those counties and the 10:00pm to 05:00am curfew also goes into effect tomorrow. take a look at the map of the shows that here's status in the bay area there you can see that the only bay area county not in the purple tier coronavirus is marine county. >>kron four's reyna harvey live in san francisco with details on what moving into the purple tier means for people in the city and for businesses as well. rana good morning. >>good morning. marty this all starts today at news. so you have establishments like the gym behind me churches movie theaters. that are either going to shut their doors completely or find a way to operate of bin talking to
7:03 am
people here this morning and they're not happy about this, but we look at the numbers and it was an inevitable the city has been tracking it. and the cases have been going up. day after day at the beginning of this month they were around 70 or so cases a day now they're well into a 100 plus cases a day and so that's why officials had to make this decision so what you need to know if you are going to be in san francisco or san mateo is like i mentioned churches movie theaters now outdoors retail stores are not closing, however they can only allow 25% of their capacity to shop indoors at their stores now like i mentioned the city in the counties have been tracking these cases and they've seen an uptick is so now they are sliding into the most restrictive tier here and again like you mentioned that curfew also begins for a number of the residents. here are what some people had to
7:04 am
say just a day after we saw small business saturday. take a listen. >>i see small businesses and the people trying their best and i've been here a lot of public blaming and i'm not i'm not with it i think the leader should take responsibility for the situation. >>why limit curfew like i mentioned starts to morrow so so that you're not confused. today i as well as restrictions set in place at news so like i mentioned the gyms and a movie theater all those things. however that curfew and the limit curfew right where we've been talking about it for the other counties meaning no large groups can gather mean if you are an essential worker have an essential business. you can stay open, but that curfew starts tomorrow monday night. tena 10:00pm to 05:00am for a month. so the city is going to be monitoring these cases and we'll see moving into that puts us at around december into the first of january now
7:05 am
as to whether we'll be back sliding back down on that that color scale over now marty i like i've been telling you pulled up here and i was talking to people this morning, lot of people disappointed. so we'll just have to watch the cases and see if any of them are going to come down because of these new restrictions for now reporting here in san francisco in the harvey kron 4 news. >>right now they are disappointed but probably not surprised because they've been talking for the past week or so that san francisco could be moving into the purple tier and lo and behold it happened. >>exactly you know i was telling a friend who what was commuting from the east bay in a san francisco for a week or so to use the gyms out here and i said you know, i hope you're keeping track of what's going on with the numbers because san francisco could be making its way into the purple tier. and they didn't want to believe me, but now that it's happened for a lot of people you know it's just very hard for a lot of the business owners to come to grips with that, although it was
7:06 am
inevitable with the case's going up good point when harvey reporting for us live in the city for us we'll check in with throughout the morning. >>well, the state is also moved san mateo county to the purple tier and that's causing a lot of business owners to decide that the easiest way. >>to deal with the ever changing restrictions is simply to close up shop for the time being the new rules mean that indoor dining in san mateo county will and gyms must also move their operations outdoors the same goes for churches and places of worship now the move did not surprise local health officials who've seen an 85% spike in new cases from october until now they say there's one obvious cause. >>the family gatherings of you know our our big issue is about personal responsibility and covid fatigue. is really really a serious issue we need to make sure that we wear mask that you make sure that avoid social gatherings need to make sure that we wash our hands
7:07 am
