>>good morning, everybody welcome we're waking up to some rain around the bay area and it's welcome back for a lot of folks as far as here tell us just how long it's going to last 9 days. >>hey marty good morning and good morning, everybody we may get a little bit of a break as we get into this afternoon but it will come with some breezy conditions and there's yet another little bows before we put this to rest for this sunday to get some showers and that will favor a little bit more the traditional north bay, san francisco. as that little last wave moves this is supposed to be alcatraz again
7:16 am
hard to see that with all the fog going on, but a little bit better view the we're getting at the golden gate at least we can see the southern tower here but wet roads course keep the lights on windshield wipers the whole bit and just a little bit of caution when driving has been a while since we had a good rain going on the puddles are developing so. here's a looks like on storm tracker for we have the first wave moves through right before dawn, but the new one is starting to develop right now as we speak and you can see it right out to sea here southern marin and san francisco basically a west to east to directory we look at it on storm tracker 4 there you see it with a heavy dose happening right here in san francisco right across the golden gate up to southern marin but the other established batch off to the far east bay and out of the south bay to trying to get treated to this to say everybody in the bay is getting something here. it's not just well it's up in the north bay in grazing a little bit of san francisco in the peninsula. everybody is getting this which is nice so what happens in the future going forward into later this morning. we see that last dose
7:17 am
play through it actually kind of seems the pop alive a little bit as it marches in the east bay and out of the south bay freezing things about 2 o'clock and here's this last little batch here i mentioned not much to it. as you can see probably won't make it a great coverage area pretty much just grazing across the north a little bit opening up the skies in its wake and that means to with temperatures starting to fall with those strong onshore winds take a look at this not so noticeable in the morning hours we approach around noon. we're still southerly in the peninsula that means the front hasn't passed then we get them on shore as you'll notice all this afternoon. now as i speak right now there's no wind advisory that's been posted that this is really close to that threshold in the 20 mile per hour range and it looks like it's going to hold all the way into the evening hours so expected to be kind of rainy windy and then windy even after the rain passes your area. temperatures right now 55 oakland 51 san francisco couple 40's in the upper north bay there 48 for concord and 52 meanwhile for san jose. how much more rain
7:18 am
we're going to get 0 doubt right now and we add to it not bad as we get into the late morning hours into the early afternoon picking up over half a dollar looks like san francisco also oakland. hayward is well even these inland areas in the east bay like livermore tri valley. you could pick up an additional half of an inch of rain from all of us actually little bit less up here in the north bay with just another little wave to pass later on today. so we've got rain showers mostly cloudy. windy breezy afternoon this was showing you this week, rain and showers midweek we take a break for a couple of days and wednesday to something that looks like. but thursday looks to be the bigger day to see some they are white rain rain also possible into the weekend. we're looking at next sunday is a possibility there keeping up mostly cloudy temperatures 58 san francisco also it looks like for san jose and 59 for oakland, rain events tend to keep a lot of uniformity with our temperatures across the bay as you can see upper 50's will be the rule for today marty. all right dave thanks a

8:00 am
>>right now as we speak across the bay area probably the heaviest would be throughout contra costa county a little bit and we've been tracking some in walnut creek as well there are some heavier rain showers of this band you can see basically fairfield all the way down to brent what it looks like there's a new batch developing up in the north bay through san francisco, it looks very modest with just some a darker green in there, but we expect that to becpme more alive as we march later on in the forecast now getting a bit of a break in the south bay, the rain is breaking up a little bit except mount hamilton in the santa cruz mountains again more as expected in your future into the late morning hours putting everybody together that's that first wave you see right there march to the bay area. then behind it that secondary wave just starting to develop here. we expected to pop in the next couple of hours and after that. they'll be a 3rd wave that will favor the north bay before we finally put this to rest this is walnut creek and i can make out one lonely car coming through there. so probably good news wet roads and we buy we're getting a good downpour. there recently so good news on that front the golden gate bridge very little

traffic there to one lonely car going north and we can make out the southern tower. temperatures right now in the 50's some 40's up north we don't expect much mercury movement for today will put down rain to light rain showers by mid-afternoon. the other issue to deal with winds on shore they are the wind advisory but still be a nuisance when did you have to be out and it will go to track all that for you and let you know what to expect this afternoon marty came forward to that thank you dave well we're not just tracking the storm here at the kron 4 studio. we're also taking a look at how it's affecting areas hit by the summer because officials are closely watching those areas for the possibility of flooding now as we take a live look outside this is the bay bridge approach of the approach the bay bridge. kron four's reyna harvey though is in the north bay, she's in nevada with a look at conditions there looking very there to and we have a good news and bad news of course we need the rain but the people who live in the fire zones certainly don't need the mudslides.

8:03 am
something else that officials are cautioning residents win is if you live in the hills in the north and the even in the east bay we've seen. >>what record number of fires this year. so that's also a major concern for people living in the area so 3 things you got to be mindful of today if you're out and about have to commute. the roadways because it is very slick. and when there are lots of pockets, the possibility for hydroplaning is there. also the flooding if you live in areas here in the north bay where you are near the king tides and if you're up in the hillsides where you see fires this year we have that to worry about as well so if you're out commuting just take it slow no need to rush to wherever you are i'm be mindful that there are going to be some areas where there is a lot of water on the roadways like right behind me year, it's a lot of the cause is still driving the speed limit but today. say marty is a day to just slow it down but for now reporting on here in marin county reyna harvey kron

at the coast that half moon bay. there you have it overcast skies which will probably be much of the case for today. we're getting a better shot of the golden gate bridge both showers coming into view a little bit here as rick looks like we're getting some lighter rain compare the heavier stuff we just had the last few hours. so this is what we can expect over the next couple of hours again. redevelopment of some heavier rain across the bay getting us to the noon hour. then as we get to the early afternoon. another batch that will be north bay centric it's not going to do much compared to what we've had to just add on top again up in the north bay after that we get a clear patch really move through this will be was some dry air and winds will come with that good strong onshore winds. there are no wind advisories that have been posted but winds will be even this afternoon a bit on the noose inside so we're just talking about holiday shopping right that if for some reason route about or whatever prepare accordingly grab that steering wheel pretty tight fourwinds let's watch what happens here. the morning hours pretty much of a southerly flow here because
8:17 am
the front still got a pass and we're into the teens with some lower to middle 20's. then later on we get that good strong onshore wind that everybody pretty much gets into the 20's north bay east bay down the peninsula as you will see going into the early evening hours here. and by that point. it will be the drier air up here in the north bay in with moisture at the surface. what you get it's some of operative cooling occurring a little bit there that can actually push temperatures down real quick. so it may get to chile early this evening. we're looking at current temperatures in the 50's close to what the highs will be some of the outlying areas into the 40's holding on to 5153 for san jose tracking the rain adding to what we've had we 0 everything out right now and going forward pick up have a dollar there san francisco on the east bay shoreline close to that even inland livermore over quarter of an inch with concord 30.34 nevada went up in the santa rosa barely picking up anything from now and other almost quarter of an inch for

>>good morning, everybody welcome we're dealing some rain and some wind around the bay area today and i was checking out the big picture window and noticed the flag was starting to flap in the breeze dave, so that wind has arrived you're getting a little bit of palm trees they're shaken just a touch. we'll see more of that good morning everybody as we get into the afternoon as winds really start to to pick up a little bit here for the morning, we're dealing with rain all the way across the bay everybody's getting something this morning which good news in terms of good coverage at least we're getting this is what it looks like right now as we speak as you can see the real heavy stuff is in the central valley, but we expect a new redevelopment as you can see with that nice juicy sell out to sea are in and also the peninsula, some good rain coming down as well putting it all the motion now there will ultimately be that clear patch that will march through that
8:32 am
will be because the days are so short. as we get into what will be now we find our evening hours. but like 4 5 o'clock or so and that will be dry air coming in with winds that which means that will push our temperatures down pretty quickly compliments of a sum of apple of cooling. there's what it looks like at half moon bay kind of overcast as you'd expected here we are getting rain and such but at least the visibility appears to be kind of up compared to what we were seeing earlier mid 50's pretty much across the bay itself in the new-look inland, a drops off into the 40's don't expect a lot of movement today. temperatures will stay pretty much in the 50's coast to inland areas and the bay. those showers by 3 that's a little bit may be overstating it will be tapering off for most areas we the last week we expect to graze across the north bay about that point that coming up a little bit we'll take a look again what's going on for today and then take a look at what you can expect for the week ahead. ok dave thanks a lot. let's get right back to top story this morning. the first doses of a coronavirus vaccine are shipping out today and that's kicking off the

largest immunization campaign in u.s. history. pfizer says the trucks are leaving from the company's plants in michigan and in wisconsin. the deliveries come after the fda authorized emergency use of pfizer's vaccine late friday now those doses will be delivered. >>to more than 600 locations across the country. fda officials say that safety checks will remain in place even after the backs vaccine is distributed. the fda's review teams continue as they have always done to come through the data submitted by companies regarding their medical products. area will be receiving about 75,000 doses of the pfizer vaccine and there could be hundreds of thousands more doses in the coming weeks from moderna the fda is scheduled to review that company's vaccine. next thursday. and all of this can't come soon enough as the number of available icu beds in the state continues to drop to critical levels we have the latest numbers for you on the

>>welcome back in national news this morning, lawmakers in washington now have less than a week to agree on new spending and stimulus bills after congress granted itself a one-week extension last friday. the president signed the spending bill into law to avert a government shutdown but as millions of americans are struggling to the pandemic both sides are still far apart on the stimulus deal. unemployment extensions and a federal moratorium on evictions will end on december 31st. if an agreement isn't reached this week. there was a march in los angeles this weekend to support small businesses now in years past it was a call to buy from small businesses during the holiday season, but this year the marchers want everyone to save what they consider to be the heart of a community. chris wolfe has more. wearing green clothing and face coverings a small but vocal crowd hit the streets of la

>>good morning, welcome back let's go ahead and check out the weather forecast with days far because he has a lot to talk about this morning. did yeah mardy good morning and good morning, everybody, our rain marching all the way across the bay area we've already seen about 2 waves move through here is like the 3rd of the development of a 3rd you can see here. some rain showers heavy as you can see the moderate iran sandra fell and extends down to the south the we expect this to spread out across the bay area over the next hour or so after this way most a bay area then we'll be able to retire the moderate to heavy rain showers will be left just a few little scattered showers and winds that some of the part of this forecast we'll get into that just a bit but again noting where the rain all is again a little pocket there in sandra fell and off to richmond open good moderate rain showers and breaking up a little bit for san francisco, let's head south here, san jose looks like you're getting some more to some moderate rain showers coming into the valley there too in the santa cruz mountains of course the up sloping and obviously breaking up in the peninsula, but again more to be had as this cold goes west to east. a look at
8:47 am
it in actual motion, it slides a little bit to the south too but here's the last little wave. we expect later on this afternoon evening and that will graze across the north bay with just moderate rain showers live shot of sfo you see some traffic going on there were reporting no delays we haven't heard of going on and then the so shot from well temper on yeah i want to give you this another view what's on and there you can see visibility is really down from right now because they're getting some heavy rains right now in southern britain. all right, let's go to the forecast maps here. you an idea what's going on the latest pop is now happening in southern moronic spreads out across the wider bay as we get to around the noon hour behind that is the last wave that will graze across the north bay. this afternoon getting into the early evening. now by this point this is going to bring in some drier air but more importantly it's going up those winds on shore as they are going to get to that in just a bit but here's the clearing patch right across the bay and with this dry air and winds that means adding to
8:48 am
evaporative cooling at the surface, we'll start to make things a little chilly early this evening. we go through this and we're still dealing with winds coming from the south at first around noon and then after all of that passes with that heavier rain then we get them strong onshore into the afternoon. this is not enough for a wind advisory, but it will be a nuisance when if you're out and that certainly so just plan accordingly that blustery afternoon going on winter weather we send you up to tahoe in this is what's going on there. we have a winter storm advisory and a winter storm warning going on that's where the reds or you could pick up and some of those locations up there a foot of snow or a little bit more that will be coupled with winds technically until 04:00am and after that everybody is kind of taking a breather for the early part of the week this is what the long range forecast models say next tip to look out for kind of wednesday but more important probably thursday looks like a better chance to bet on getting some rain another breather and then we get to sunday. and that's when another dose of rain
8:49 am
comes our way being projected into the early afternoon of course this is way out things in time you can change and maybe lingering all the way until monday to so we open up the door to see these systems coming in from the pacific and as our wet season, upper 50's across most of the region. that's expected for highs today. give me an idea of the 7 day forecast next dose of rain looks to be thursday and then another one into sunday, most numbers will be upper 50's lower 60's, not a lot of temperature movement because of the pattern you know west to east going on here. now these lows are more interesting we're going to drop off a little bit early into the week because of drier air that's at work here then we're back to the 40's telling us moistures in place here and then another quick drop on thursday a little chilly there looks like a 33. the coastal stay in the 40's and about 50 marty all right dave. thank you is of course has been a very tough year for a lot of americans who are facing economic and health hardships that the pandemic has brought on. >>but there is one california economist who says there's hope for the roaring 2020's on
8:50 am
the way. reporter nancy loo has more on that. because we're coming out of such a deep hole we're going to be coming out relatively fast economists leo feller believes a new roaring 20's will parallel the last one just as it was in the gilded age it won't be a boom for all. >>it's going to be a roaring, you know 2020 but for whom and the answer is it's going to continue being very unequal. and it's going to take off or unemployment come down because we've decimated parts of our economy that are very labor intensive sellers latest u c l a anderson forecast says a strong california recovery will be bolstered by sectors such as technology and residential construction. nationally the forecast predicts the current dismal gdp rate of 1.2% will grow to one 0.8% in the 1st quarter of next year. and then america will see a booming jumped to 6% thereafter all the way through 2023 or forecasting growth above 3% every single
8:51 am
quarter. we haven't had growth like that. and really the past decade, but the numbers are based on the mass vaccination of americans against covid by next summer. a likelihood that may be hampered by availability public willingness and logistics and feller stresses the outlook doesn't reflect economic misery. 10's of millions are unemployed and homeless though in general a depressing marathon is almost over we're coming into a time of more normalcy. >>and a time that we expect people after this past year to be consuming much more than they were. previously in you know catching up with the experiences they missed out on carl tannenbaum is chief economist at northern trust which is also predicting gdp at around 6% by next summer. >>but things won't necessarily be rosy. >>i think the fundamentals long-term for the economy are okay, but certainly not we do have a lot of depth we're
8:52 am
going to have to pay down the demographics of the united states are skewing a little bit towards the older which is usually not associated a roaring economy. well that was nancy loo reporting for us this morning, the u c l a report also confirms that the pandemic has contributed to inequality with essentially the rich getting richer. >>accumulating about one and a half trillion dollars in savings over the past 9 months alone. they say that that's money that may fuel the economy when things finally do open up again and we'll be right back.

9:16 am
