coming together this weekend to condemn the recent acts of violence in oakland and also around the bay area that's right organizers hope that the rally will help heal. they're hurting communities kron four's dan thorn has more. >>this was the first of 2 healing events scheduled for this weekend and the goal is to bring together a multi cultural and racial groups to stand in solidarity against this violence and to keep their communities safe. hundreds gather in madison square park in oakland's chinatown to take a stand against racism and violence the event sparked by a series of recent attacks on the area's asian community through the message of love our people heal our communities. organizers say this was a much needed day of action i think it's actually amazing you know all the people have come out mourn this work to end violence against asians and asian americans and our work done in a range of through signs symbols and speakers the rally aimed to take away the grief and pain the community

plaza sunday afternoon in san francisco that event will also be an english with a cantonese interpretation reporting in oakland. dan thorn kron 4 news. >>and the south bay, large crowds gathered at the grand century mall in san jose on saturday ringing in the year of the ox that gathering happened despite public health officials pleading with folks to stay home and prevent the spread of covid the lunar new year typically draws thousands of people to santa clara county. it's home to the largest vietnamese community outside of vietnam. lunar new year is also known as tet for the vietnamese culture and is considered the most important festival and holiday. >>a face mask and you really we have to be events going on right now to like a festival going line dancing and things like that it is still making a happening regardless of everything research you know the celebrate our culture.

>>santa clara county saw spike in covid cases after thanksgiving and christmas officials are hoping not to see another spike after lunar new year. >>well developing news this morning. 6 people are recovering at hospitals after a shooting in san francisco's bayview district late last night. all of the victims are said to be in stable condition. the shooting happened at 3rd street and casada avenue and police responding to the area after they received multiple 911 calls about the shooting. they're looking for a suspect this morning and they're asking that anyone with any information to contact sfpd. >>also in san francisco, a man has been arrested for the shooting near the ferry building on friday that injured 2 people 25 year-old tyler gangel of fresno is in custody, this morning police found him or said the double shooting happened just after 08:00pm friday night on drums street close embarcadero and market. one of the victims does have life life threatening injuries. engel was booked into san francisco

county jail on numerous charges, including 2 counts of attempted murder. >>now to the east bay where 6 men were wounded in a shooting early saturday morning in oakland it happened just blocks away from police headquarters in the area of 9th and washington streets in downtown oakland. police believe that all of the victims will survive investigators haven't released any information or a motive for the nor a description of the suspects thus far. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, the effort to recall governor newsome continues to gain steam, we'll see how much money the state republican party has contributed. >>to support that cause. and for the second time the senate fails to convict former president donald trump in his second impeachment trial will have much more on that from washington. many people now wondering what's next. and after the break farm workers are told they are essential but they don't feel that way when it comes to getting the covid vaccine. we'll take a look at the changes they're asking for.

his acquittal vote was 57 to 43 to convict with 7 republicans joining all 50 democrats now the final tally was 10 votes short of the two-thirds majority that they needed for conviction. that's right senate minority leader, mitch mcconnell voted to acquit even though he later blamed trump for the insurrection he said the senate does not have jurisdiction though. >>over a private citizen washington correspondent kelli meyer has more from capitol hill. >>good morning. this was the second time trump was acquitted here on capitol hill and while his defense team celebrates this morning. democrats are blaming the 43 republicans voted. >>not to convict is not guilty as charged the articles impeachment, the senate voted to acquit former president donald trump saturday on a charge he incited the deadly attack at the u.s. capitol one month ago this was the most bipartisan. impeachment in history. the united states, 7 republicans voted with

federal government overcast in la where fema in california are constructing a new mega site. their vaccine supply will also come directly from the feds that site is scheduled to open on february 16th. >>and now to the latest numbers on the covid-19 pandemic as the infection rates continue to drop across the state. close to 3 and a half million people have been infected with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic more than 46,000 people have died from covid here in california. the state has seen just over 9,000 new cases on saturday and that's down 75% since the peak one month ago. the daily number of deaths is also down by one 3rd, and there are currently more than 9,000 people in the hospital with covid. a study from oxford university in england says the pfizer vaccine can work against new covid variance as the virus spreads around the world several different mutations have emerged the 2 variants first found in the uk and south africa are said to be more

contagious. now researchers say the pfizer vaccine neutralize the virus in both of those variance the study also found the vaccine helps trigger t cells in the human body. these cells produce antibodies which fight off future infections. well. >>governor gavin newsome paid a visit to the mass vaccination site of the moscone center in san francisco last week that visit part of a weeklong tour of vaccination sites where the state's trying to ramp up capacity to provide more doses the moscone center is capable of administering at least 10,000 shots per day. but newsom says although the biden administration is working to increase the supply to the state. we may not see those extra doses for several months. >>now to the south beirut high school become a vaccination site by the end of the month. and it will be by appointment it's expected to give out some 1000 shots per day with the possibility of eventually doubling that santa clara county residents, 65 and older as well as health care workers to live or work in the county

are eligible to receive those vaccinations. the south san francisco police department is warning of a group of criminals that apparently is targeting older women. police say over the past 2 weeks there have been 4 incidents of women aged 60 or older. hu are victimized as they were getting out of their cars. >>since in they were and possession of their first or near their first in the vehicle, the suspects in those incidents would either open the car door with the victim inside. and which point they would take the purse or a struggle ensue it at which point they would be able to get away with the first. >>and each of those incidents the thief would jump into a dark colored infinity that was waiting nearby and then they would speed off. there've been multiple crimes linked to this particular car in both san mateo and santa clara counties. and in a similar incident happened on wednesday, but involved a different vehicle. police say

happened just blocks away from the police department in the downtown area of 9th and washington streets police believe all the victims will survive. investigators haven't released any information on a motive for the shooting or descriptions of the suspects. >>this just into the newsroom, a retail theft bust has landed 5 people behind bars this morning. the group accused of stealing more than $50,000 of merchandise from a lululemon store in reno earlier this month, 3 of the thieves are bay area natives mario omar cruz. and omar cisneros rodriguez and saul garcia hernandez officials say the theft at lulu lemon happened back on february 5th. the thieves are facing charges ranging from suspicion of organized retail crime possession of stolen property and grand theft in all officials recovered more than $150,000 in suspected stolen merchandise. it included items from other stores to like macy's nordstrom louis and gucci among several others.

pandemic as infection rates continue to drop in california. close to 3 and a half million people have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic more than 46,000 people have died from covid here in california. the state saw just over 9,000 new cases on saturday and that's down 75% since the peak one month ago. the daily number of deaths is also down by one 3rd. there are currently more than 9,000 people in the hospital in california with covid. a study from oxford university in england says pfizer vaccine can work against the new covid variance as the virus spreads around the world. there are several different mutations that up emerged the 2 2 variants that were first found in the uk and south africa are considered more contagious. now researchers say the pfizer vaccine neutralize the virus in both of those variance the study also found the vaccine helps trigger t cells in the human body. these are the cells that produce antibodies which fight off future
