bit down in the south bay, but this is all going quickly, including the clouds going to exit pretty quickly this morning, here's what it looks like it's a snapshot there. >>as you can see a little bit of the santa cruz mountains up to mount hamilton a little bit in the santa clara valley end spooky looking at the golden gate bridge with look at the flag in action least all winds that will be around all morning. even as we clear. another shot here of the east bay shoreline in the cloudy skies that remain at this hour. speaking of which this with the winds look like right now the most intense in the inland spots of the east bay for the higher elevations off their to mount hamilton also a little bit in the peninsula and up in the north bay to now those temperatures because the cloud cover not too too cold, although it does feel a little chilly with the win. 43 for santa rosa, 42 for napa 48 going on for san francisco and in london the east bay most readings are in the 40's this behind worry we're about 24 hours ago, notice here in some cases, a half a dozen degrees. so breaking it down for a lot of cloud cover this morning we're going to break through that as we approach the noon

hour to a mostly temperatures somewhat suppress though, but we do see a little bit of a lycra warming trend into early next week. all more that just a bit morning. well. >>i think they will begin this morning in the north bay were retired san francisco police officers actually facing kidnapping charges over a childhood prank gone wrong. yeah, the incident happened last friday night in sandra fell the game is called ding dong ditch. >>it involves kids ringing doorbells and then making a run for it. >>so one sandra fell homeowner though was fed up by all of this according to police that's right 63 year-old dean taylor is accused of chasing down an 11 year-old boy hu was doorbell ditching taylor faces felony charges of kidnapping criminal threats and child endangerment a witness reported seeing an older man yelling at a boy and grabbing him aggressively before both of them got into the man's car and then left the neighborhood. neighbors say the doorbell pranks have been going on for a month, but this time it took an unexpected turn.

>>kids are unfortunately a lot of these kids haven't been to school even one day this year. i think people are really. and a tough spot right now so get the kids to want to mess around you to understand and be more sensitive and at the same time we just all need to give each other more greece right now. >>taylor is a retired san francisco police officer who's served 34 years with the department. he denies the allegations and has pleaded not guilty he is currently out on bail. in the east bay now family and friends gathered in hayward to remember a woman killed in a hit and run this happened one week ago, 58 year-old valerie martinez was walking along hunt what avenue when someone driving a car described as a light colored 2005 ford explorer hit her and then took off investigators have released this image of the vehicle suspected of striking her. a week later the truck nor the driver have been found the family is now pleading for the driver to

come forward, so they can have some sort of closure. >>yard. that. >>you know turn yourself in and and help our family get through this. >>investigators believe the ford explorer in question has front end damage and a possible cracked windshield anyone with any information on this is encouraged to give hayward police a call. >>also in the east bay oakland police say they found the vehicle they believed was involved in a fatal hit and run, but they're still looking for the driver this morning. the incident happened tuesday night shortly after 6 o'clock on foothill boulevard that's just a few blocks west of fruitvale avenue. take a look at this video from the scene this is from citizen app police say an oakland resident was crossing the street when he was struck by a silver vehicle. the driver fled the scene without stopping. the man was then hit by a second car, the driver of that

vehicle stayed on and is cooperating with investigators. the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene police are asking for anyone with any information to give them a call. another big story that has made national headlines entire oakley union entry school board has resigned after they were caught slamming parents during a virtual meeting that they thought was private. >>that's right it was public though, and it went out to the public this morning we're getting a look at the video that drew all the backlash. >>we >>that's >>just me haha. >>they want to take on they want their baby sitters back great. i totally hear that re service for a medical.

>>good morning, welcome back in san francisco parents and students organized a zoom in protest at some san francisco schools. they are frustrated at the lack of a plan to return to in person learning. now parents acknowledge there are concerns to getting everyone safely back on campus. but they're asking the school district and the teachers union to work together on addressing those concerns so the students can get back in the classrooms as soon as possible. noel. >>a new development in the plan to reopen schools though governor gavin newsome signaling he'll likely veto the state's let the state legislature's agreement to get kids back in the classroom by april the proposal is scheduled for a formal vote on monday. but the governor and state lawmakers have 3 main disagreements when it comes to reopening timing required county case rates per 100,000 people and teacher vaccinations. >>unfortunately was put into

and. >>it was shot from sfo, no delays going on there. but it does look a little fierce as we start the day today a live shot also from the east bay shoreline and all the intrusive the cloud cover so give this a couple of hours to work its magic far as any rain that's part of the south peninsula little bit in the south bay. we're gonna retire that pretty quickly look at futurecast for his hit on talking about we clear out pretty nicely well before noon for all areas and tomorrow looks to be much the same not as windy. but we'll be left with a little bit the way of a breeze want to show this real quick here we just had a rain event remember overnight. we just had a rain event a look at these humidity levels not unusual to see them drop off during the day but tells you we are getting some good solid mixing and above us there is some dry air to kind of help out with all of that so it's i see those numbers plummet and we won't have much intrusion from cloud cover as we get to the afternoon here the winds that we're starting things off with good solid northwest wind here. what we actually see later on the forecast period is becoming offshore in the tomorrow solano county and

napa counties we have a little bit of a breeze kind of hang on just a little bit that will be into your sunday, but you can see saturday little on the breezy side for just about everybody switches back over to an offshore wind 58, san francisco, mostly sunny breezy noting 61 cool for oakland, san jose checking about 59. so not a lot of temperature movement here give this about 72 hours. we'll see some more impressive numbers though across the wider bay, most of the readings in the lower 60's as you'll see 57 in vallejo though 59 san jose along with fremont at coming up of course we'll have that 4 zone forecast for you. and we'll check into that extended forecast which has a little bit of a warm-up. >>a 91 year-old man he pushed his body literally air war. i saw in that image someone that could have been my father, my grandfather, these acts of violence against them are unacceptable and the perpetrators of these crimes must be punished. >>this is all part of a big story we're following this morning as lawmakers on capitol hill are denouncing

violence against asian americans it comes in the wake of several viral videos showing a disturbing spike anti-asian hate crimes many of which happened right here in the bay area and members of the congressional asian pacific american caucus, drew attention to those attacks. >>kron four's catherine heenan has more. >>what started as dirty looks and verbal salt has escalated to physical attacks and violence. >>the bay area knows what that kind of violence looks like all too well, including this cowardly brutal attack on a 91 year-old man and oakland's chinatown another heartbreaking scene, the came barreling across the street to knock over an 84 year-old man in san francisco. he later died. there are vigils. there are calls for hot lines for new task forces. speaker nancy pelosi today called it domestic terrorism white supremacy. >>is is the of concern when it

comes to domestic terrorism and that don't take that for me that's what director of the fbi said in september. >>it's not just the bay area of course this was a recent incident in seattle another one in new york. lawmakers today say that there have been more than 3,000 anti-asian hate incidents reported nationwide in just the last year, many tied to the coronavirus pandemic and some blame donald trump. >>donald trump and republicans double down on using slurs like we'll virus china plague and can flow. and that tactic succeeded in promoting stigma. doctor king has made clear. >>that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere so all of us stand with the asian-american community. until we can put this scourge to an end. and we will. >>catherine heenan kron 4

news. >>new york congresswoman grace meng introduced a resolution back in september that condemned all forms of anti-asian bigotry she says the issue needs more attention and more action. >>in the east bay richmond police are pleading for the public's help in finding a missing teenager 17 year-old antwon whitley was last seen on wednesday february 10th. police say he was visiting a friend's house that night and the 2 of them used illegal drugs possibly including hallucinogenic ce the friends tells police and want began acting paranoid so we called him a ride share to get him home. the driver tells police and funds behavior became erratic causing him to miss an exit and then accidentally get on the richmond sandra fell bridge. the driver apologized, but then antwan accused the driver of kidnapping him and began physically attacking him. >>due to the assault it was occurring at the time. the driver made the decision to stop the car mid span. and tom

the first time since last march shut down whereas some. >>in the younger grades in nevado have returned the district recently decided to give the nod to 7th and 8th graders and excited we kids for the first time like i can't stop smiling thinking about it. >>it feels sileo was just like the first day of school. i think it's great that i'm being vaccinated i just worry that's you know, and the chance i would pass along to you when my students would then pass it along to somebody at home. a lot of my students have more live with multiple families. grace was able to get registered for the vaccine because she lives in sonoma county which recently allowed teachers in child care workers to get vaccinated. >>other teachers in nevado tell me that they have yet to be able to sign up. gray says that she feels good about governor newsome opening the door wider for teachers and staff to get the vaccine throughout the state yet she says they're still so many

unanswered questions. >>you can open up the conversation as far as what other schools are looking for feel safe. with the school that i are 6th graders have been on campus gosh i think november. and so far it's been it has gone well here they have a very small amount of students each day. and like monday, us increasing the amount of students that we have on campus. you know it's just i think whatever school needs of the vaccines will start opening that conversation again other school districts we have spoken webb said that certainly. >>opening the door wider for more teachers to get vaccinated is important but so are other safety measures like additional ppe and making sure that testing is readily available. your marine county theresa kron 4 news. >>well some crews are have setting up a new vaccination site at the larkspur landing ferry terminal that's

years. and her new title gives her the 3rd highest rank position in the sheriff's office very impressive stuff. she's joining us now to talk about her career and what she hopes she will bring to this new role assistant sheriff first and foremost congratulations on the new position. thank you so much, you're very welcome. we're so glad you decided to join us here this morning, i'm curious why did you choose law enforcement as your career path. >>there was an issue that happened back in the day with my younger cousin that started me to be in law enforcement. i wanted to really help people. it was something like a passion inside of me to mentor coach help and law enforcement had it all when you're law enforcement officer, you can't go into the community and talk to people help people. mentor and be a role model and so everything that was inside of me just came out in law enforcement. >>and what hurdles have you had to deal with as a black

woman in law enforcement. >>as i was a young officer i didn't really think about all the hurdles until i really became a leader and saw that as a black woman and a law enforcement agency where most people are men and i'm back in the day law enforcement was just white men that we look in the way i look was different and so i knew that law enforcement needed voices that look no places that sounded like me people that look like me so that we can all make a difference. >>and it's only been about a month in your new role here you just were sworn last month in january can you talk to be a little bit about any issues different areas within the sheriff's office that you're looking to improve upon. sheriff's department is actually doing pretty great

because 77% of the employees and staff are minorities. >>different cultures and backgrounds. but what i hope to do in the department is to really encourage and support. a lot of women. i want to make sure that the women and people of color have opportunities in leadership. there are many people who're coming up that are wonderful people i don't know if many of you know that i started my career in this very department back in 1996. and so me coming back to this department is like coming back home to and i just hope to encourage all of the people there to really be the leaders that we were called to be to inspire everybody to understand what this moment is and 2021 to reach back to the communities and let them have a voice. so my goal is to make sure that we become the

leaders that we're supposed to be and to make sure that the voices are heard throughout the entirety of the department. >>to follow up on that and to put it mildly the past year has seen one of divisions and distrust between black and brown communities and law enforcement and and i'm wondering what can you do to try and regain the trust. >>honestly we need to go out in the community we need to make sure that those voices are heard all the me be more empathetic. i'm hoping that i can be a bridge to the community and the law enforcement community being black and being part of the team and you know the community there is. a push pull for me and a lot of my other brothers and sisters, you are also black and you are also law you know community members and so it's really up to us we have a huge responsibility to go back into
