>> from the bay. area's local news station. you're watching the kron 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning and thank you so much for joining us on the kron 00:00am morning news on marty gonzalez. and i'm noelle bellow. it is sunday may 9th it is mother's day. so happy mother's day to all of you who might be watching. exactly. happy mother's day to all you moms out there. the bay area. so under red flag warning this morning. we're still expecting some warm temperatures around the bay. and there's that fire danger as well. only saw a lot break out last night and yesterday afternoon. we'll get to that in just a bit. but we do want to get your check of your forecast because it is going to be a warm other state today. hey dave. >> noel. marty, good morning. and good morning, plenty of

sunshine to go along with that, too. but a warm breeze you can expect in just about all locations 2 in the normally suspected offshore wind zones expected to be a little breezy to gusty at times going on right now to start things off and no fog issues going on. lots of sunshine as we see everywhere from the golden gate bridge off into some of those inland valleys. take a look at that. check it out there. see what's going on here with these offshore winds that we're watching and waiting for more just check things out. here we go. going gate bridge and of course along the east bay shoreline to some haze off towards the distance. now those winds, they're pretty much holding offshore for right now. they're kind of variable a little bit. we'll have a adrift from the coast coming in this afternoon. but back to our map line pretty much goes down to the south a little bit. it's not actually in the valley of the south bay. but it does to cover the hills off to the east and certainly the east bay is included in this. it wasn't a last go around. solano county. you'll be around until

06:00pm. that will be extended for you folks. and then up to the north bay in the north bay hills again until 06:00am on monday. there's the total coverage peninsula is not included in that temperatures are pretty much in the 50's and the 60's over most a real estate. for now it's the winds keeping temperatures supported. let's try about 82 going on in the early afternoon looking for a little bit of a heat spike as we get into early next week. we'll be talking about it coming up in just a bit morning. well. >> all right, dave, thanks a lot. as we mentioned, the hot weather dry conditions. and when of all combined to keep firefighters busy in the south bay 2 brush fires broke out on saturday. the latest was near the san jose municipal golf course that broke out around 8 o'clock last night kron four's camila barco is live in san jose with details camila. >> annual mardi. i don't know if you can see, but behind me is the aftermath of that fire. there's still smoke surrounding this area. and you can even smell it. but we want to take a look at the scene yesterday san jose fire department responded. here to los a law golf course.

firefighters were able to control the 3 acre grass fire, but a few oak trees and homeless encampments encampments were involved. they say no one was injured and no structures were damaged. but the cause of the fire is still unknown. here's what firefighters had to say about responding to this fire. >> and every responded with 2, 1, assignment which is like a single alarm assignment showed up with a heavy involvement the oak trees. but if you're homeless encampments were also involved hopefully there's a damaged the golf course that was pretty much contained to the area. >> now besides yesterday's fire here in san jose firefighters have been busy around northern california responding to other fires. there is a 45 acre fire in solano county. that call came around 1030 yesterday morning. it took firefighters around 2 hours to get that under control. we spoke with one resident who at their home, who believes he may have

started the fire using a power law and more to cut the dry grass. but firefighters had yet to tell us what the cause of that fire was and will mardy that red flag warning remains in effect until tomorrow morning. but firefighters do want to stress that you should not use lon morris to cut your drop your dry grass during this time. and if you're disposing of cigarettes properly dispose of them because anything can easily spark a fire with these dry and windy conditions. for now, back to you. >> good point. thanks, camila camila barco reporting live from the south bay. want to go more in depth on that fire in the north bay where it broke out saturday afternoon and solano county as camila they believe it was someone using a power mower braswell and they keep saying, you know, defensible space makes it so it seems that person might have been trying to do that. kron four's. gayle ong has more on what may have caused the blaze and what it took to put it out. >> the fire broke out just before 1030, saturday morning here on local road and been a

shock. it took firefighters about 2 hours to get it under control from the ground and air dropping water and fire retardant. the wind, obviously north wind conditions, dry fuels was a challenge. but we're able get resources on right away. i spoke with the resident here at the home who believes he may have started the fire using a power lawn mower to cut dry iraq with the blade. >> and then road make a sparkle. and then that's how this game. the fire started. but we ever don't even see it until i was the role and then come back and i see the fire and then i call my body is due up to me out our way to stop the fire. but we could and solano counties under an extreme drought with fuel ready to burn firefighters say it does not take much to spark a wildfire under red flag conditions. you land owners and homeowners trying to do the right thing. >> but just do it appropriately. we are experiencing dry conditions north when red flag event through approximately monday

afternoon. so we asked if you are going to go do it prior to 10 o'clock in the morning while still cool before the wind blows. >> and this by what that residents as cal fire says the official cause of the fire is under investigation. that resident says he has been fined and it is highly advise not to use power tools during red flag warnings here in benicia gayle ong kron 4 news. >> further north up in yuba county and even larger grass fire broke out around 1230, saturday afternoon. this one near feather river officials say one barn and an abandoned structure were completely burned. fire crews were able to get the 100 acre fire under control within 2 hours. the battalion fire chief for the linda fire protection district says they had to put evacuations in place because of those strong winds. >> contacted yuma county. you county sheriff's arrived on scene we started evacuating down. david lane and down broadway to die road and then started evacuating guy road as the fire jumpedabroadway and was heading towards cairo.

victory of this young season on saturday. a 63 win over tampa bay. now the a's have most winds in the big leagues right now. it wasn't exactly textbook on saturday afternoon at the coliseum, but the a's will take it there. seth brown going deep to center field for his 5th home run of the year just over the wall here in the first inning for the a's 400 feet to dead center. one, nothing cushion for oakland. and then the second now just a noun just called up this week also goes yard this time to right field for a 2. nothing advantage for oakland on the mound for the a's it was frank human had his fastball in the upper 90's yesterday, 6 strikeouts over 5 and a 3rd innings. he left in the 6 with a 3, 2, lead. the bullpen did the job. the rest of the way things got a little dicey in the 9th just for a little bit of excitement tea's with 63 lead. the rays loaded the bases with no one on lou trivino was in trouble, but he got out of it. bob melvin kept in the game interview know got out of it for his 6th save of the year. frankie montas

improves the 4 into the a's win. it 6 to 3. they can get the sweep today at the coliseum game starts at 1 o'clock. >> while the giants too, with a chance at sweeping the padres giants taking the first 2 games so far against san diego and they're celebrating their 20th win of the season. these guys are on fire for starters. they are heading with power. brandon crawford in the second inning with a three-run bomb to right center 7th of the season for crawford. very excited fans out there in the 5th. brandon belt with his 7th of the season as well. how the solo shot put the giants out in front 4 to one and how about kevin gossman saturday was his 3rd start this season already against the padres. he's thrown a total of 19 innings and giving up just 3 runs combined to san diego. just one run over 6 innings and he struck out 7 and the best for last austin slater here in the

offshore winds that we've been watching. >> and conditions are quite dry as well. here's a live shot coming in from timber on. there's the golden gate off towards the distance or off the kind of a nice start at that. but no forget we're still with that red flag warning. that's with us. still going on until monday morning or monday evening for solano county. looks like. here's how the whole map looks like it's much more real estate than we saw last. go around covering all of the east bay east of the east bay hills extends down to santa clara county on the east east hills and santa clara county solano county. you're until 06:00pm on monday. and of course, the north bay hills. it still continues. so good coverage area except for the peninsula is not in here. when you look at the winds, you can see yes, offshore right here in this pocket up here and solano county. certainly. and it continues. little bit of a drift that rise a little bit on shore, but conditions will still dry out. and then with another surge of some offshore winds as we get into monday before we can finally put this to rest. take a look at the

humidity levels today drying out in the zone that we're looking out for at least some relief along the coast. we have a nice recovery monday morning shore. but then monday afternoon. looks like it dries out again. this time really targeting solano county. even a good chunk up here that napa county too. but even in the east bay, we're looking for still dry and we don't get a really good recovery to we get into tuesday morning with all of that said, beyond that, the heat spike coming our way in the wake of all of this from monday, tuesday going to push some of those in the highs in the lower 90's late in the week. we'll see some scattered clouds temperatures back slide a little bit. we'll see some 70's coming back in areas that saw the little 90's 72 for san francisco. 76 for oakland 78. meanwhile, for san jose get a load of this, though. we see a lot of upper 80's on our regional map there for the east bay and up to the north bay still remaining in the mild 70's along the peninsula coming up in a bit. of course, we'll check that 4 zone forecast marty into. well, sounds good, dave. thanks a

lot. what we're seeing more and more videos of violent crimes against asian americans here in the bay area kron 4 reached out to the mayors of 3 of the 3 biggest cities here in the bay to get their perspectives and what they're doing to keep the asian community safe. kron 4 says it made and has the story. >> crimes against asian americans and pacific islanders are happening across the bay area. but dominantly in the big cities. san francisco where among the victims was an 84 year-old man who died from injuries following this unprovoked attack outside of his home in oakland among several crimes. a 75 year-old man who died from injuries he suffered during a robbery. and in san jose where an asian woman was recently. the victim of an attack at this transit station leaders speaking up and simply st. >> hate and discrimination are not tolerated and it doesn't feel good when. >> so many of brothers and sisters and asian community are under attack. the bay area

is. >> our collective home. it's for everyone. >> it does virtual conversation with the mayors of san francisco. oakland and san jose. the question is. >> as mayor. what have you done to address crimes against members of the hpi community in your city. >> so one of the programs that we recently lines to street violence intervention program is a program that works in san francisco in is in existence for many, many years to address a lot of that gun violence in certain communities. what we've done is expanded that program to include neighborhood that consists of a large population of asian seniors in particular time in town. the main street in other neighborhoods. >> you know, in san as we believe in a carrot and stick approach. the steak is simple. if you commit hate crimes against any members of our community, asian american or anyone else. we'll be on you like a ton of bricks and. the carrot is that we have a

unique opportunity here in the bay area the incredible diversity that we have here in this community to be the planet's most successful multicultural community. if we get this right. >> of course i'm working on the root causes of crime from everything with the oakland promise to get more kids to and through college tour guaranteed income demonstrations to really get to the cause of poverty and the racial wealth gap. these are all pieces of a holistic approach to community safety in the first 3 months of 2021 the san francisco county da's office filed 5 hate crime charges in crimes against asian americans. >> there was a total of 3 hate crime charges filed the previous year in santa clara county. the district attorney filed 2 hate crime charges in 2021 and a total of to hate crime charges for the year 2020, the information on hate crime charges was not available. when i contacted the alameda county district

>> well, the federal government is working with operators of a major pipeline that was forced to shut down after a ransomware attack. colonial pipeline carries refute refined gasoline and jet fuel from texas all the way to new york. it's responsible for 45% of the fuel that's used on the east coast. the company hasn't revealed the source of the

cyber attack nor the demands from the hackers. it proactively shut down the 5500 mile pipeline on friday and then hired a cybersecurity firm industry. experts say the attack is unlikely to affect gasoline supply and prices unless it leads to a prolonged shutdown. >> well, that out of control chinese rocket that we've been following re entered the earth's atmosphere last night at around 7.30, according to chinese officials, most of the 22 ton rocket burned up one re entering the atmosphere the remains then fell into the indian ocean near the mall deaves. there have been no reports so far of any damage on land. the u.s. space command space track project tweeted in part, quote, everyone following the re entry can relax. the rocket is down. as we head to the break, we do want to wish a happy mother's day to all moms out there. if you want to highlight your mom. share your pictures with us on our kron 4 facebook page. we'll be right

some what their days far as as you're going to sunscreen. that's going to pretty you definitely will. sunscreen. good morning, guys. good morning, everybody. and at that, we're a kind of off to kind of a warm to hot start as we get into early next week. those temperatures will heat spike coming our way. we'll be pushing in the inland valleys. well, in the business of the 90's not to stick around very long by the end of the week. we'll be backtracking again will be actually in the upper 70's and some of those locations. first things first, a word about this offshore wind now speaking to the beach chairs, half moon bay. there you have it. nice start to the day. blue skies and blue bay. and we do have a little bit of a drift near the water that will be somewhat insulated. so you're probably feel a minor relief happening near the water's edge. that means the bay side of the coast but inland it will be the offshore wind program to east bay and up there to solano county and some of the higher elevations in the north bay. look at this. our current temperatures and we have 60's and 50's on the board everywhere. we don't see even in the 40's. so we didn't really cool off much last night. that's giving us a bit of a head start for today.

so for comparison sake, we're going to happen doesn't agrees ahead of where we were this time from yesterday. the breakdown comes in like this. 74 at 11 o'clock by 2 we're talking 82. so see a lot of these going on today. but there are 90's expected tomorrow. going to have your 4 zone forecast. we'll check into the extended as well. a bit. mark. okay. dave, thanks a lot will begin in the have this half hour in the east bay with the alameda city council held a special meeting to talk about. >> police reforms following the death of mario gonzalez in that meeting. they discussed if armed and uniformed officers should continue to be the default response to minor quality of life issues. >> they hope to implement a new plan to shift some 911, calls away from law enforcement. mayor marilyn ezzy ashcraft ashcraft says she is seeking alameda county alameda council approval to compile a list of agencies to handle minor complaints in the short term before developing more far-reaching strategy which would involve the civilian responders accompanying police accessible

alternatives to calling 911 for example, the city of berkeley recently began a grant funded pilot program. >> that it to start using a separate phone number for residents to call if they observe someone had seeming to have a mental health crisis. >> the 26 year-old oakland man died last month in police custody body camera video showed officers pinning gonzalez to the ground. the police department is also being criticized for saying that he died of a medical emergency as this investigation continues. the sheriff's office is asking for independent pathologist to review the autopsy results to ensure the trust of the public. the oakland police department could be getting more than 650 million dollars in its budget for the next 2 years. that's according to newly released budget proposal from a mayor schaff. the mayor's office says the proposed budget preserves core

police services so they can address the violent crime. it gives the police department 325 million dollars this year. >> through 2022 334 million dollars from 2022 to 2023, the police officers association president says the department needs the money. and we're struggling. >> and are. >> the need for open. police officers is still significant given the level of violence last year, more than 100 murders. we're already closing in on 50 murders of the year. this year. >> a city council vote. the city council still needs to vote on the budget kron 4 reached out to the council. president for reaction to that budget plan. but we have not heard back. oakland police, meanwhile, are searching for suspects in a string of early saturday morning shootings in just 6 hours, police investigated 3 separate shootings that injured 5 people. >> opd says a woman and 3 men

were hurt in a shooting near lake merritt about 3.30 saturday morning. this is video of the scene from the citizen app. investigators say the woman remains in critical condition this morning. while the men are said to be in stable condition and expected to recover oakland police and crime stoppers are offering up to $20,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. >> here is a look at the other shootings. the first happened on 89th avenue in east oakland after a man was shot around 8.45 friday night. the other shooting was reported around one 15 this morning near how st in lower rockbridge. one man was hurt in both shootings. police have not made any arrests. >> also in the east bay antioch police are investigating a deadly shooting friday night on sunset lane. officers found a woman laying face down in the yard with a gunshot wound to her chest. they gave first aid, but she died from her injuries. investigators say they're still searching for a suspect or suspects and have

not released any information about a possible motive for the shooting. >> record number of guns have been confiscated in california from people deemed a danger by the court system. authorities say nearly 1300 guns were confiscated last year. that's 100 more than the year before. it's all a part of the red flag gun law that allows family members to block people believe should be a risk to themselves or others from having firearms that law took effect in 2016 following the 2014 massacre. and i love this stuff. breaking overnight. san jose. police are investigating a triple shooting last night. one man is suffering life threatening injuries. >> it happened just after 1030 on ordeal avenue. police have not yet released any information about a suspect or motive. we'll continue to follow the story as we get more information into the newsroom. >> as we head to break the question. those moms happy mother's day across the bay area. you want to highlight

>> welcome back. 7.38 here on this saturday morning. and it's been 16 months since the u.s. space force was established and some lawmakers say the newest military branch is already under performing. yeah. this is top military leaders made their case to congress for budget increases for next year and a word can explain why lawmakers aren't too happy with space force. and so and how they spent taxpayer money. so far. >> top military leaders told lawmakers on friday that america is losing the space race falling behind. and so we need to go fast. we need to catch up acting secretary of the air force. john roth says in order to win the air force and its sister branch. the space force need more money. we need to focus on investing in technology for the future. but as the top officials made their case for more money, some lawmakers question their purpose. why do we need? the space force. >> what was not the regular air force. program.

>> just as effective or minnesota democratic congresswoman betty mccollum says congress has allocated money to the space program. already. but she says so far the progress has been disappointing. the space acquisition programs have been delivered light. over budget and sometimes billions of dollars over budget and mccollum says key positions have yet to be filled. i could not agree more. >> that we need to have an assistant secretary for space acquisition and integration. the position ought to be fails probably should have been filled. you know, last year as well. but for for beyond our control. they were not feel that the times ross says until the senate approves the nominees for that position. their hands are tied. >> congress has set in october 2022 deadline to fill the post in washington. i'm anna wiernicki. >> and we're going to take a short break. but first, we want rush off some of the moms around the bay area. in which

dollars is about 18% of the city of oakland overall budget and the president of the police officers association tells me every bit of that is needed. >> we're struggling. and we're struggling and are. >> the need for open. police officers is still significant. >> given the level of violence. mayor libby shaft office says her proposed budget preserves core police services it gives the police department 325 million dollars in 2021 22. >> and 334 million dollars in 2022 23, i think the merest an just a very difficult environment oakland police officers association president buried on land says this money is a start getting the department. what it needs, including more officers. donlon has been an officer for more than 2 decades. he's currently a sergeant. he says there are 709 oakland police officers a 5 year low and crime is on the rights.

>> now to the south bay this morning and breaking overnight, san jose police investigating a homicide. this morning following a triple shooting last night. it happened just after 1030 on ordeal avenue now, so far we know that one man was killed, 2 others are suffering life threatening injuries. san jose police have not yet released any information on the suspect or a motive. we'll continue to follow this story as we get more information into the kron 4 news room. >> oakland police are investigating 5 shootings that happened in a matter of 6 hours this weekend. the incidents left a total of 8 people injured. >> one of them was a shooting near lake merritt that left 4 people wounded opd says a woman and 3 men were injured when shots rang out about 3.30 saturday morning on lake shore drive near lake merritt oakland police and crime stoppers are offering up to $20,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.

really until for solano county until tomorrow evening. it looks like tomorrow. afternoon's actually going to be drier over more real estate will be talking about that coming up in a bit. right now. a live shot this pretty good when the east bay shoreline, which is a little cooler looks today than we saw from yesterday. you know, slightly we'll see in the 70's going on. that's pretty good. there's a kind of a snapshot of where the winds stand there kind of variable with the drift on shore along the coast and along the east bay shoreline. here's the big map. again, we've got the coverage in the east bay east bay hills points. east are being insulated along the east bay shoreline solano county that's going to be hanging with you until 06:00pm tomorrow. and of course, the north bay hills all involved in this as well. so for a temperature we're in the 50's and 60's. but in a bottle already up to 7072 going on for any auc and the breakdown for today. 81 by one by 4 81 as well, although we'll have some upper 80's and some of those in the valleys will be covering all this coming up in just a bit. you know, well, all right, dave, thanks a lot. we'll as we mentioned, the hot weather dry

conditions and wind have all combined to keep firefighters busy. >> in the south bay. there were 2 brush fires that broke out saturday. the latest was near the san jose municipal golf course yet broke out around 8 o'clock last night. kron four's camila barco is live in san jose with the details coming at you can still see some remnants of that fire this morning. >> most definitely know l and some of those flames. luckily did not make it onto the golf course. but if i step out of the way. you'll be able to see some of the aftermath of last night's fire. if i zoom in, you'll be able to see that some of that area is still filled with soot and ash and some of the smoke still remains in the area and that smell of smoke still lingers. but here's a look at the scene. >> as firefighters battled the flames. the battalion chief tells me a few people have made that area their home. so the campsites, the vehicles and the waste altogether in

that area. fueled the fire. a few oak trees and homeless encampment were involved. and you can also hear a few popping sounds fire officials say that there were stored gas cans for cooking, which also contributed to the flames. firefighters were able to control the 3 acre grass fire. they say they were fortunate with last night's weather as there wasn't a lot of wind. the battalion chief tells me the green euro the green grass on the golf course acted as a line of defense. >> it is said that in the gulf gulf course there on the one side has helped the spread of fire. the fire bumps up to the golf course and it's nice that green grass of the divide stop on that and without a there was no amber spread. so. >> now firefighters reported no injuries and no structures were damaged and they're still trying to determine what the cause of the fire is. and you can see over here out live that there is a fire car fire vehicle on scene. firefighters

still are on scene trying to maintain those last minute hot spots. and the battalion chief tells me that they've been here all night monitoring the area know. marty, back to you. >> but to see that they are still monitoring everything because things can change. >> we know, we know so well how things change so quickly. camila, thanks a lot for that live report from san jose. >> now that other fire in san jose broke out near the los law goes golf course. fire crews have it fully contained. now, it was also a small one. san jose fire says just 2 acres burned there. no evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported. >> now we'll head to the north bay where a larger fire broke out saturday afternoon. some solano county residents believe it was started by someone who was using a power lawnmower to cut dry grass. kron four's. gayle ong has more on what may have caused the blaze and what it took to put it out. >> the fire broke out just before 1030, saturday morning here on local road and been a shock. >> it took firefighters about 2 hours to get it under control from the ground and

air dropping water and fire retardant. the wind, obviously north wind conditions, dry fuels was a challenge. but we're able to get resources on right away. i spoke with the resident here at the home who believes he may have started the fire using a power lawn mower to cut dry iraq with the blade. >> and then road make a sparkle. and then that's how fire started. but we never don't even see it until i was the one role and then come back and i see the fire and then i call my body is doing up to me out our way to stop the fire. but we could and solano counties under an extreme drought with fuel ready to burn firefighters say it does not take much to spark a wildfire under red flag conditions. you land owners and homeowners trying to do the right thing. >> but just do it appropriately. we are experiencing dry conditions north when red flag event through approximately monday afternoon. so we asked if you are going to go do it prior to 10 o'clock in the morning while still cool before the wind blows.

>> and this by what that residents as cal fire says the official cause of the fire is under investigation. that resident says he has been fined and it is highly advise not to use power tools during red flag warnings here in benicia gayle ong kron 4 news. >> now. further north up in yuba county and even larger grass fire broke out around 1230. saturday afternoon. this one near feather river officials say one barn and an abandoned structure were completely burned. fire crews were able to get the 100 acre fire under control within 2 hours. the battalion fire chief for the linda fire protection district says they had to put it back away shuns in place because of the strong winds. >> i contacted yuma county. you county sheriff's arrived on scene we started evacuating down. david lane and down broadway to die road and then started evacuating guy road as the fire jumped broadway and was heading towards cairo. >> the fire is now under control. the evacuations have since been lifted. officials

searching for a gunman after 2 women in a 4 year-old child were shot. >> in the middle of times square yesterday. police say the victims were innocent bystanders and are not related to each other either reporter maggie hickey is in new york city with the latest on the investigation. >> this is the person of interest. police want to question about the times square shooting. it was just before 05:00pm on a saturday night when times square was just beginning to see people returning to the crossroads of the world approaching the the world approaching the prepandemi 4 or 5 shots rang out on the corner of 45th street and 7th avenue and 3 innocent bystanders all female were caught in the crossfire. we have. >> they just do from numerous witnesses that a dispute occurred on the street involving at least 2 to 4 people. it is juring this dispute that at least one person pulls out a gun. this is early and that could change and it is jarring that pulling

out the gun and the gun fired at 3 individuals that were not involved in the initial dispute. >> what strucked among those hit by gunfire was a 4 year-old girl who was buying toys with her family shot in the leg. >> she can be seen with police officers carrying her in their arms and running to get her to an ambulance. >> a 23 year-old female tourists from rhode island in town to see the statue of liberty. also shot in the lake and a 43 year-old woman from new jersey shot in the foot. all 3 rushed to bellevue with non life threatening injuries. how many kids have to be shot before we take this seriously. we just had a one year-old. a homicide clear this week. >> how many more kids do we need to be shot before we realized that bad policies have consequences and we need action and we need policies regarding laws to have consequently police say no gun has yet been recovered. but 3 shell casings from a 25 caliber with found on west 45th street as the police

commissioner blamed bail reform and other policies for allowing criminals back out on the streets too quickly. >> he promised to make safety a top priority. we're going to continue to keep new yorkers safe. >> we to academy classes that just got out there hitting the street extremely eager to get out there keep new yorkers safe and it's going to be a great time coming back from cold. but we need help with some of these losses. no doubt. >> scientists say it's going to take a lot longer than expected to find out why 3 whales washed ashore in the bay area over the past several days and the latest was found tuesday may 4th at angel island on monday. may 3rd, another dead gray whale was found at the port of oakland and on april 27th, a gray whale was found at keele cove in temper on that. back in early april, another 5 dead whales were found kron on spoke with an or an allergy and the mala g collection expert at the california academy of sciences to find out why the cause of death for each of the whales is going to be taking longer than usual.

>> unfortunately with the 3 most recent one they stranded in locations that were inaccessible for a team from the marine mammal center at the california time and place where i work to work on the whale. typically if they're not in an area that we can get to them. we can't really do a full which is what an animal that we use could tell whether or not there's trauma due to ship strikes. >> well, scientists look closely at these photos and they believe that at least one of the whales may have died from malnutrition. >> take a look at this. some dramatic images of a rescue mission off the shore of pescadero state beach. 3 young men found themselves stranded on the rocks a few 100 yards from shore around 8 o'clock last night as the tide began to rise. as you can see, though, a coast guard helicopter was able to air one of them to safety. all 3 of the men are set to be okay.

breaking overnight in the south bay san jose. police are investigating a homicide this morning following a triple shooting last night. >> it happened just after 1030 on nor dale avenue now, so far we know that one man was killed, 2 others are suffering life threatening injuries. police have not yet released any information on a suspect nor a motive. we'll continue to follow this story and get more information for you in the newsroom. >> oakland police are investigating 5 shootings that happened in a matter of 6 hours. this weekend. those incidents left a total of 8 people injured. one of them was a shooting near lake merritt that left 4 people wounded. opd says a woman and 3 men were injured when shots rang out around 3.30 saturday morning on lake shore drive near lake merritt oakland police and crime stoppers are offering up to $20,000 for any information that leads to an arrest in each of the 4 earlier shootings. one man was wounded. the first happened at 8.48 friday night in the 1400 block of 89th avenue in east

oakland that was followed by a shooting at 12:30am, in the 2600 block of east 27th street near fruitvale avenue. then shots rang out at one 17 saturday morning near howell street in lower rockridge and then just after 03:00am another shooting was reported at 17th street and broadway downtown up to $5,000 is being offered for any information leading to arrests in any of those other cases. >> well, here in the bay area we're continuing to see more violent crimes being committed against asian americans. kron 4 reached out to the mayors of the 3 largest cities in the bay area to get their perspectives and to find out what they're doing to keep the asian community safe. kron four's haaziq madyun has that story. >> crimes against asian americans and pacific islanders are happening across the bay area. predominantly in the big cities. san francisco where among the victims was an 84 year-old man who died from injuries following this

unprovoked attack outside of his home in oakland among several crimes. a 75 year-old man who died from injuries he suffered during a robbery. and in san jose where an aging woman was recently. the victim of an attack at this transit station leaders speaking up and simply st. >> hate and discrimination are not tolerated and it doesn't feel good when. >> so many of brothers and sisters and asian community are under attack. the bay area is. >> our collective home. it's for everyone. >> in this virtual conversation with the mayors of san francisco. oakland and san jose question is. >> as mayor, what have you done to address crimes against members of the hpi community in your city. >> so one of the programs that we recently to street violence intervention program is a program that works in san francisco and been in existence for many, many years to address a lot of the gun violence in certain

communities. what we've done is expanded that program to include neighborhood that consists of a large population of asian seniors in particular chinatown street in other neighborhoods. >> you know, in san we believe in a carrot and stick approach. the steak is simple. if you commit hate crimes against any members of our community, asian american or anyone else. we'll be on you like a ton of bricks and. the care it is that we have a unique opportunity here in the bay area. the incredible diversity that we have here in this community to be the planet's most successful multicultural community. if we get this right. of course i'm working on the root causes of crime from everything with the oakland promise to get more kids to and through college tour guaranteed income demonstrations to really get to the root cause of poverty and the racial wealth gap. >> these are all pieces of a

holistic approach to community safety in the first 3 months of 2021 of the san francisco county da's office filed 5 hate crime charges in crimes against asian americans. >> there was a total of 3 hate crime charges filed the previous year in santa clara county. the district attorney filed 2 hate crime charges in 2021 and a total of to hate crime charges for the year 2020, the information on hate crime charges was not available. when i contacted the alameda county district attorney's office. so what do the 3 men as have to say on the subject of these crimes against the a p i community be motivated by hate. so clearly there is some level of a connection. we don't completely understand. >> but i do think we need to be cautious the truth is we don't know the motive. perpetrator unless we hear them say something or unless we see a clear pattern. and so in some cases days may simply be crimes and i have to acknowledge that many communities in oakland, not

that. obviously they're having conversations about where she came from because he's a single gate added. so obviously she's wondering what kelly did i come out. is a very special moment and i felt very, grateful that i got to be a part of that. >> well, and i think that, you know, those questions are something that intended parents are going to have to expect, you know, to answer eventually, i know that the surrogacy process is is not cheap. it's it's an expensive process. but what else do the intended. parents need to be ready for if they do decide to go this route. >> 3 main components or 3 for professional services that can build a team together. so you're going to think about it agency that agency is going to be operational management of entire case from the very beginning when you're creating embryos all the way through the birth of your baby. and then there's the medical component where you will need to her with an ivf clinic are effective crawl adjust. the bay area is full of them. so there's tons of tons of resources available to erie a

parents and then the last piece is the legal for the higher and assisted reproductive technology attorney who will manage those 2 components. one is a legal agreement between the part in the survey and then what is the supporter in california which grants heritage actually makes it very different than adoption. each the circuit has no rights to be in california. and so the create that heritage in utero for the baby to the pact. so they're on the birth certificate as part one and part 2 >> well, and so i guess that's kind of a big component there. if you're thinking about becoming a surrogate knowing your rights and what you need to do. that's what you guys help them understand as well. right. >> absolutely so started to come into and especially the sort that we partner with us. they are looking to be full and somebody else's life. they want to have a positive experience what helps bring joy to the joys parenthood to other all of that. need to protect themselves to and make sure that we're following all
