the kron 4 morning news. good morning, everybody. boy, i'll tell you, we're talking about fog and lack there of that's really in the bay area. here's half moon bay. >> it's one of the places the fog hide out there as well. we'll see the sun coming back out, probably by late morning hours. however, we have a continuing breeze going on. so that's going to keep conditions chilly even though the sun will be out. so what the sunshine on your shoulder. and if you will, but make sure sweater there with your jacket because it will be a bit chilly. there's the golden gate bridge. so you get a little bit inland and not a problem at all. as you can see, this is usually the fog trapped going on here. with that said, temperatures are pretty much in the 50's over most of the real estate happened about 54. by the way,
8:14 am
san francisco 52 and well in the east bay were already in the 6 to 69 for antioch 61 conquered 50's cover the north bay as well. 57 san jose. there we have it. the onshore winds. we'll continue all day. now, what we're seeing happen into the early part of the week is little cooler temperatures coming our way big time. so so these winds will actually have some teeth in them and will help cool us down. more noticeably on monday and tuesday and the kind of a gradual recovery of the weather flow pattern is pretty much west to east that we've been seeing over the last few days interrupted a little bit by that heat spike that w had around memorial day. so look ahead of the game plan here is mild to warm today. 70's covered the bay plenty of 80's inland along the coast. quite cool with 60's and even some 50's. cool start for the week, though everybody gets reduced 70's going on for those inland valleys warming late in the week back to the 80's again. and then the weekend gets real interesting here. we're going to call it somewhat unsettled for right now there might be a shower thrown in there mild to cool conditions expected,
8:15 am
although inland. it doesn't look good. we see that happening right away on saturday so it may play out more on sunday into the following monday. 67 today. san francisco will do about 72 for oakland. 78 san jose. but it's still very base centric. you get a little bit more inland and numbers start to pop more so there you have your 80's going on 84 up to napa for example, 88 antioch 86 for concord. of course, this is usually the suspected spots. the numbers tend to rise in those inland valleys coming up a little bit here. of course, we're checking of the 4 zone forecast. look at those longer range forecast for that little chance of rain and of course, that extended. well, for your health this morning. an estimated 11 million people jammed us airports over the memorial day weekend. that's by far the highest number of travelers since covid grounded flights around the world. >> but vaccinations and loosening travel restrictions are combining to renew our confidence in flying in a big way. and that includes our health expert. karen, a lot who took to the skies last weekend and shares her

8:17 am
that there was an extension until to 19 2000, 23, right. still maybe a lot of people like me. we're not aware that. >> well, you know, that's important to point out that there is a delay because of covid there now an extension until a 3rd of 2023. so another couple of years. so that's a great point to make is a lot of people probably aren't aware of so you don't necessarily need the passport unless you're going overseas. >> correct. correct. yeah. now the next step, of course, is going through security. and i have to tell you, i went on, i went on a >> a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a year and a half and i forgot a few things about yeah, i get your driver's license out. oh, yeah. don't forget take off your belt. all these different things that i just completely had forgotten about. >> so you are that holding up the a lot of muttering behind

>> 2 for the well, welcome commercial chat the well, dave's got a little did taper us caught up as we were where you are having a very important discussion. how dare you governor up. that's what's spot. i don't know what. >> anyway, we're talking about, whether you're going on. good morning, guys. good morning, everybody. a look at this half moon bay here got this fog kind of hanging around. we've been making note of all these pictures around the bay. hey, the sun's out rock and roll in except a couple little problem areas here. and this is usually when we get the fog kind of hiding a little bit. colgate is another example, the fog trap and here's one for half moon bay. this should mix out as we approach later in the day later in the morning hours, but it will be chilly along the coast. so plan accordingly with that and you add a win to that as well. we have a
8:40 am
temperature drop coming our way. yes, and you can see this in tahoe as well. 70 tomorrow 6154 by wednesday. you get the idea here so early in the week temperatures will fall and then the other half of that start to recover a little bit. it's kind of interesting. we head into the weekend here. the models are decoupled in terms of their opinion. hopefully we get a little closer. we'll get some consensus in the short term. there's a system just towards our north that will dry the cooler air mass and our reach and that will bring those o% temperatures down a little bit for monday into tuesday, get a recovery for the remainder of the week. current temperatures right now in up to 71. so that's what the subtle do. warm us up nicely 61 for concord, east bay shoreline in the upper 50's. 57 going on for san jose 57 also for santa rosa 61 to so here we have the winds that are on shore. now today we're still going to see those inland temperatures. nice, however, inland tomorrow things will start to chilly at the beaches, though plan accordingly on that. and there again tomorrow. we have the
8:41 am
wind storm there on shore thing. another flow pattern still remain this west to east pattern and some of the models are kind of may be painting a little rain in here. by the time we get to friday into saturday, not money in the bank by any stretch. just something to watch out for 4 zone forecast checking out your sunday 67 san francisco at the coast will do about 60. that's what the clearing happening later this morning. upper 60's in the northern end of the peninsula year. upper 70's are hiding down in the south. santa clara valley close to 80 in morgan hill. 83, though, that's pretty good. 8279 cupertino east bay shoreline to the south, mid to lower 70's tri valley lower 80's. that will be back to 70's tomorrow. 84 for walnut creek. 86 conquered, you're probably looking at upper 70's tomorrow. 67 vallejo 85 for sonoma. 87 santa rosa, check it out. 7 day forecast. watch your step after 2 days down to 7068 on tuesday. gradual recovery and it's interesting as we head into next weekend. if that rain war materialize snow. we have to have another

>> maui hawaii on our that's for sure. our travel enthusiast's dana redmond joins us now with what you need to know if you're considering making a trip like that. you know, dana leaving from california to go to hawaii usually a breeze. but there are a lot of hoops to jump through. now. >> there are a lot of hoops to jump through and what is important to understand is that those hoops are changing a lot from day to day. so you have to kind of stay up to date. that's just as important. there was a huge announcement going into the weekend. once the wind hit 60% vaccination. all you need to travel. there is your vaccination card in hand. once they hit you percent. all those restrictions disappear. so we're definitely it's encouraging news that said we don't know how this a gun. so you need to be prepared at this point. why is as beautiful as ever. they are welcoming travelers maui. video was shot just a few
8:46 am
weeks ago and kind of holly beach. it's stunning, but it's not the cure free travel that we may remember in the past past. reservations are recommended for everything from hotels to restaurants to tours activities. anything you can reserve. they're recommending. you do ahead of time. all of the stories we've heard about rental cars being hard to find an expensive. they're all they're all true. so you really it's never been more important to be organized and planned and until hawaii hits that 60% vaccination rate. the current system to travel there remains in place that has not changed. all travelers even if you're fully vaccinated, you have to register with the hawaii safe travels online system and submit a negative covid-19 test to a quarantine. now, there are some steps it's doable not there. just some details you need to be aware about. first of all, that
8:47 am
covid-19 test. it must be a specific test. a nucleic acid amplification test for an ap test. the test must be administered by a trusted testing and travel partner. essentially what that means. you can't just go anywhere to get the test. you have to choose from a list of providers. the test also has to be done within 72 hours of the last leg of your flights to hawaii. and that's important to keep in mind. then after you get the test done, you kind of wait, maybe you cross your fingers a little bit, depending on where you got your tests done. you have to get the results from that test uploaded before you get on the flight to go to hawaii. so there's definitely a little bit of room for some angst and uncertainty in the process. the easiest, most recipe stress freeway they've seen doing is at san francisco, san francisco international airport. there's a package in conjunction with the grand hyatt. there you get
8:48 am
your test done at the international terminal. you get it back within an hour and then you spend the knowing that the next morning you're ready to go and get on that flight. but there's an extra cost. so that's important to keep in mind too. a little different than in the past what ever you route to get whatever route you take to get there. it's going to cost you a little bit more. most health insurance policies will cover a covid test its for travel. and so interesting because we used to get free covid tests and now they're on. and free anymore. >> well, and you know what, there are some instances that you can still find them for free. but what you need to be aware of is one. it needs to be a test from one of those providers that are listed to need to be asking, you know, what's the turnaround time. how quickly these results coming back because if they coming too late, there's nothing you can this. you know, you just can't stop now. again, this is all doable being once you get there, you
8:49 am
get there and you ok, this was this was all worth it was worth you know. met the people and talk to that when they jump in that water for the first time and they're sort thing. they come face to face with hurdle for first time and they go, ok, yeah. this is this is why i did this. it it was worth it absolutely. and it's important to keep in mind that once you're there, you're going to notice changes circling trips. this is terra they launch right off of the beach and kind of polly a lot less people on that death. yeah, they're not now as many people at a time. that means a couple things. it means is going to be harder for you to get that spot again. that takes you back to that planning ahead. but it's a much more pleasurable experience when there's less of you in the water with those turtles or on the yeah or on the deck. so you are going to notice things like that. you know, that could be kind of
8:50 am
the silver lining to all of this that maybe we see some of the numbers change in the way operators provide their services. daniel, would you recommend getting reservations here on the mainland before you even get to maui. >> absolutely. as soon as you those should be book does reservations. and when i say booking those reservations, i mean, dinner. i mean, well, anything that you can book a reservation for i highly i mean, that's not to say you're not going to be able to do things when you're there. but if you don't want to wait in lines. your best bet is booking those reservations. great okay. any. and it's also important to note, too, that there's some new things and why to look forward to. and if you're willing to try something new. maybe something different from the surf and sand. there are options out the island of maui has a farm to bar chocolate factory and now offering tours. this is their farm in la hina. so you don't have to drive far. it's
8:51 am
in a central location. it's stunning. state chocolate has 20 acres of the cow trees and they take small groups out in the farm fields. the farm fields used to be dedicated to sugar cane. so there's a lot of interesting history here. and this is where your taste. yeah. wow. wow is right. so a beautiful open air setting with incredibly stunning views and you're eating chocolate there. you know how had to go wrong and to make it even better no guilt about the tropics. company. a 100% of its net profits go back to nonprofit organizations on the island. absolutely. the company was founded with the purpose to give back there's another great reason to think about visiting somewhere. new also did a little work as well. >> know again, there's a lot
8:52 am
of new great stuff to do as i spent one of my days on my trip. weeding. okay. i'm not. i'm russ. you're right. i this is part of what's called them a llama. hawaii a llama means to care for. and essentially it's a group of nonprofits that are making volunteer options easily available to visitors. now, ok, i know we didn't may not sound what you want to do on your vacation. but we learned so much in between pulling those weeds about some native hawaiian culture that we wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. this is for us. that is strictly endemic and native plants. we've got to see plans that some people will never see any other time. we learned about the benefits. what they were used for. it was just a really great opportunity. they don't think you would have come by another way. yeah. and an added incentive to all of this part of why program a lot of hotels. if you spend a day
8:53 am
volunteering and giving back their offering some really nice incentives like 3rd night free at the exactly. you know, discounts on food and beverage that type of thing. so ally really has decided they're trying to involve everyone in their culture. there's a lot of opportunities want to learn and to give back. so it's hard to go wrong. >> dana, you have given us everything we need to know. i feel like we're all so much more prepared now to get on that plane and head to >> absolutely. lots of good things waiting for you again. lots to do to get there. right. let's really ration a lot of contests. you get that. it's percent number. a lot of great things waiting for you. and you know, think about all the things you have to talk about when you get fewer people. dana, thank you so much. it's great to see you again. welcome back. thank you. thank you so much. talk to you soon. the rabbi.

good. there so that you see the fog trapped for speaking of which will see the fog collect a little bit around the santa cruz mountains in the east bay shore like briefly by tomorrow morning. but that doesn't look that much coverage going on tonight. so good stargazing 60's now lot of the east bay. in fact, 71 for antioch even up to the north bay. we see some 60's to with the 50's hanging on to the coast and 53 for san francisco slightly cooler in the peninsula. were yesterday and pretty much on tap everywhere else. so we'll continue on with this onshore winds becoming a little bit more aggressive by the late afternoon and evening hours. look for about 79 by 1 o'clock upper 70's by 4. but some areas will top off into the 80's by this afternoon. even the mid to upper 80's at that as well. have a look at that forecast coming up in just a bit. breaking overnight in the south bay protesters gathered at san jose city hall demanding answers in the killing of demetrius stanley. >> the group of a little more

welcome back to kron 4 morning news. good morning, everybody. and our half moon bay shot looks to be improving a little bit. you can make out a little blues trying to come in here in the pictures are becoming a little bit more bright. so we're mixing out some of the fog at the coastal areas of course, of the golden gate bridge, then sunny, all this morning. we've been talking to you nice blue skies going on in the background. so good start their mile traffic and they're my cyclists right there. right on target k our temperature check. howard, one got 60's over most of the region except san francisco, half moon bay both at 55 71 antioch 62 for tri valley livermore. there's going to be some differences going on in land. some folks are going to reach the upper 80's
9:14 am
potentially, but more commonly will be those lower 80's if they get up that high, we do have the continuation of the coastal flow pattern. so along the beach is going to be a bit chilly even though the sun's out this fog will come back a little bit in some spots here. but the bigger factor will be because of a system dropping south of it. this is going to drive some cooler. temperatures are way for your monday and tuesday. big drop-off happening here. so. wonder what happened the summer here going on today. we've got mild to warm with 70's for the bay. plenty of 80's going on in land, but a cool start with 70's inland. it looks like for monday and tuesday. warming late in the week. back to the 80's. then it gets interesting him to the next weekend. we do see some changes happen. the models are kind of diverging on their opinions about picking up the shower here. but the possibility is there. so we'll keep mentioning of this. but really it's open for saturday, sunday even into monday, the following week. today 67 san francisco 78 for san jose 72 for oakland. the 80's are going to be inland. and again, some spots are really going to
9:15 am
be racing ahead. you get off the eastern contra, costa county and boom, those numbers may be in the upper 80's and some of the valleys up in the north bay to here's just a sample santa rosa and keep in concord. tri valley we'll put it about 82 there. and along the east bay shoreline hovering in the lower to middle 70's. of course. coming up a little bit later on. we'll be checking in the 4 zone forecast. and check out your extended as well. well, for your health this morning. an estimated 11 million people jammed us airports over the memorial day weekend. that's by far the highest number of travelers since covid grounded flights around the world. >> but vaccinations and loosening travel restrictions are combining to renew our confidence in flying in a big way. and that includes our health expert. karen, a lot who took to the skies last weekend and shares her firsthand observations. karen, you survived. >> i to go. actually, really well, you know, i i heard a lot of things about a lot of

9:17 am
until a 3rd of 2023. so another couple of years. so that's a great point to make is a lot of people probably aren't aware of so you don't necessarily need the passport unless you're going overseas. >> correct. correct. yeah. now the next step, of course, is going through security. and i have to tell you, i went on, i went on a >> a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a year and a half and i forgot a few things about yeah, i get your driver's license out. oh, yeah. don't forget take off your belt. all these different things that i just completely had forgotten about. >> so you are that holding up a a lot of muttering behind me. yes, own everyone remember to get ready right. you get to boat conveyor belt. so yeah. and and not lot of people are putting their shoes in the band. he just right on the belt, but on the belt, i mean,

remains in place that has not changed. all travelers even if you're fully vaccinated, you have to register with the hawaii safe travels online system and submit a negative covid-19 test to a quarantine now, there are some steps it's doable, not there. just some details you need to be aware about. first of all, that covid-19 test. it must be a specific test. a nucleic acid amplification test for an ap test. the test must be administered by a trusted testing and travel partners. essentially what that means. you can't just go anywhere to get the test. you have to choose from a list of providers. the test also has to be done within 72 hours of the last leg of your flights to hawaii. and that's important to keep in mind. then after you get the test done, you kind of wait, maybe you cross your fingers a little bit, depending on where you got your test done. you
