>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 7. >> and it is 7 o'clock. for joining us on the kron 4 morning news on martin gonzalez. and i'm noelle bellow it is saturday, june 12th we're almost halfway through this month already fly really you know it was a little bit cloudy over by the bay bridge this morning. it made for kind of a beautiful sunrise in a away from the fuse clouds. but we're looking for it to clear, but let's find out more from days for in the forecast. hi, dave well, good morning. good morning. everybody. in a fog covering the bay up pretty nicely this morning. most of that will mix

out beefy little problem areas along the immediate coast. but nice summertime temperatures not too hot, not to cool kind of nice with all of that with a decent breeze along with this as well. picture that we have for you right now to start things off half moon bay where they're seeing some of that fog going on. we're seeing the same. also at the golden gate bridge. now, this will probably clear out well before noon. but at the get the coast may be a little problematic in terms of mixing that out. you can see just a little bit there in southern marin along point rays and down along the peninsula coast as well. it's coming back again tonight and to greet us again. look at the spill into the delta as well into your sunday morning. we've got temperatures pretty much in the lower to approaching middle 60's. it looks like for right now that's a comparison of above what we they were this time yesterday by almost a dozen degrees. so even with this fog we're looking at warm temps. not a lot in the way of winds to report this morning. so we'll shake off these morning fog clouds for you and turning mostly sunny by the midday inland temperatures go on well into the 80's. meanwhile, at the bay into the

70's. another interesting little wrinkle was tomorrow night. michael stray shower in and around the immediate coast or near the water's edge. >> but we're looking for a heat spike later on. we'll have all that in the package coming up in a bit. well, marty. >> all right, dave, thanks. let's get to the news this morning. breaking overnight in the south bay. one person is dead, 2 others injured after a suspected drunk driver crashed into an outdoor dining area in san jose kron four's camila barco is live in san jose this morning with more details camila. >> yeah, good morning. all morning. so officers are no longer here on scene. the scene has been cleared instead, workers have cleaned up the outdoor dining area here at the restaurant. and just moments ago i saw one worker cleaning the floor and this all happened here at a god. it's sports bar and grille here in san jose. it's located on west elm avenue and the incident happened around 9 o'clock collects last night.

so let's take a look at the video of the scene. you can see first responders helping treat those hurt in the incident. the roadways were block several officers here on scene. and as you guys said earlier, officials say a driver plowed into the outdoor dining area of this restaurant. 2 people were injured. a 3rd victim was taken to a hospital to be treated. but later died. now in this video you'll see officers arresting this woman. police say she was the one behind the wheel when she crashed into got a sports bar and grill. she has been arrested on suspected alcohol influence. now police have not released the name of the driver were still looking to see who this person is and any more information regarding last night's incident know. marty, back to you. >> alright camila, thanks a lot for that live report. that's camila barco in san jose. >> we are following breaking news out of texas this morning where a mass shooting in downtown austin has injured at least 13 people that shooting happened around one 30 this

morning along the popular stretch of 6, 6 street where there are many bars and restaurants. now there are no deaths to report at this time. 2 of the victims, however, are in critical condition. police are still searching for the suspected gunman. >> heat wave is coming in. so we're really looking to the public to to be aware of what they're doing this weekend in and just be safe. >> and that another big story we're following this saturday morning. a dangerous heat wave is approaching. but the fire danger is already here in the northern california as cal fire warning everyone take proper precautions there were 2 separate fires in moraine county, friday, one of them next to southbound one. oh, one near the rodeo exit in sausalito. thankfully crews were quick to respond and contain those flames before they could cause any real damage and then there was another fire flare up in nevado that filled the sky with smoke for a time leaving a community on edge. the fire

was also contain quickly. but these incidents do serve as a vivid reminder that we're expecting another potentially dangerous fire season. cal fire says that we all need to be on high alert. >> our staffing levels right now are probably about 30 to 40 days where they would be on a typical year. so pretty much at peak staffing up and down the state where we would typically see that until maybe at the very beginning of july. so we are ready for the fire season right now. and we're asking the public to be ready as well. >> there was another flare up late friday. this one in fairfield, a homeless threatened, but firefighters were able to contain that fire safely. no word yet on a cause and any of those fires. >> and california's independent system operators asking all of us to conserve energy ahead of next week's heat spike, the organization in charge of our state's power grid says although power outages are not planned. they are a possibility. so they have some ways that you can

well, take a look at this. some intense weather in the philippines and that's what came out of it. this incredible water spout. the swirling formation was followed by heavy rain thunder and lightning. >> as those storms continue. thankfully no injuries or damage were reported and the man who shot this video tweeted it out, says the first time seen a water spout and for him it was unforgettable.

have you ever seen like know. i saw 1 one. so i was living in texas. it was we had some weird storms down there. obviously with hurricane whether we have it so it is a really incredible thing to see. it's a little scary, though. you're like not really sure how it's going to move around like a tornado or what. you know, there's a pretty much yeah. it kind of sticks where it is for, you knew, because it's kind of getting water from i don't really i saw a lot panama city, florida. it was the water spout. what a funny came over land. you see what you saw there that look again at one. >> at 0 kind of thing. when you get to oklahoma and kansas and nebraska. you're talking are very, very scary things and even the skies are completely dark and whatever. but anyway. >> those water spouts, they can come on land as tornadoes. they could be watched as well. when we finally got it was just a bad storm. that's what it looks like along the east bay shore line. you see still that fog and that cloud cover lingering a little bit around the bay that will be handled with as we get into the afternoon. pretty nicely. it

looks like so most of the bay in the inland areas looking at mostly sunny, but we might have some problem areas along the coast. this is of the golden gate bridge. one of our fog traps. i grant. but what we're talking new this morning. the should clear up. but again, it's along the coast, both in the north bay and along the peninsula coast. we may have some issues a little bit today. lower 60's lighting up the east bay shoreline got 66 antioch concord. checking in at 6359 for santa rosa on future cast for though, got a kind of squint at this a little bit, ok marine layer. it backs off. that's a given. we've seen that the fog thing again tomorrow morning will do the same thing with that fog spreading off to the central valley. all right. whatever. but then tomorrow night looks like we might get a little shot of some sprinkles happening. it's not much to look at. i grant, but we'll take it to the helps moisten up the ground as much as we can. another coastal areas are really all that's going to be affected during a pure be prepared for that. maybe some wet roads overnight here that sunday night to take us into monday. looking at the winds,

though, this afternoon the typical onshore winds begin as you can see. and you can feel them in the inland areas as we get better heating tomorrow. it's more interesting, actually, as we get some better. cloud cover build up and that fog coming back again here in the inland areas. it doesn't seem as pronounced because we're not getting as much warming happening towards of the west here. so putting it all together for you to take into next week this weekend morning fog bay clearing mild with 70's 80's happening in. look, do have again, that shower thing on sunday night early in the week continued mild. same weekend rolls we're talking about here and then latter portion we that's what everybody's talking about. big inland. heating pushing those high temperatures beyond 100 looks like the days to look at our thursday into friday with 80's around the bay during that period today. 69 san francisco 73 for a oakland and 80 san jose hinting it. yes, a lot of 80's happening inland both up in the north bay valleys and off towards the east bay again, the heat spike looks like it will be getting here by the middle to latter portion of the week. we'll be

talking more about that coming up in a bit. marty. all right, dave, thanks a lot us go to national news. this morning, texas governor greg abbott is taking matters into his own hands. >> he's promising that texas will build a wall along the southern border with mexico. now this comes despite president biden's executive order back in january. that canceled all border wall construction, our washington, dc correspondent anna werner. he has more. >> texas governor greg abbott says texas is building a border wall. and he says texas ie paying for it. i will announce next week. >> the plan for the state of texas to begin building the border wall in >> governor abbott says he's allocated 1 billion dollars in state funds to a poll border security. he says part of that money will go towards resuming construction of the wall between texas and mexico. started by former president donald trump. this is a direct result of the president biden's policy when he reversed president trump's policies, kansas republican

senator roger marshall says he supports the idea. it's so bad down there that the texas governor is going is going to take something that should be the responsibility of the united states and pay for it himself. but texas democratic congressman henry clay or says he's against abbott's proposed border wall calling it, quote, a waste of hard earned tax dollars that does not solve the problems we currently see at the southern border and the league of united latin american citizens or lulac says the governor doesn't have the authority to order a wall in texas. they plan to file a lawsuit saying this is a huge waste of taxpayer money and very likely illegal governor abbott says more details of his plan will be released next week. >> in washington. i'm anna wiernicki. >> developing news now current attorney general merrick garland announce the department of justice is taking new steps to protect voting rights. garland says he will double the size of the departments. voting rights enforcement, staff, the doj

will also push back against new voter laws passed in 14 republican led states. garland says restrict access to the ballot box for millions of voters, especially americans of color. >> there are many things that are open to debate in america. but the right of all eligible citizens to vote. is not one of them. >> garland. and president biden are also calling on congress to restore parts of the 1965 voting rights act in 2013, the supreme court invalidated federal oversight of elections. a key part the original law designed to keep tabs on states with a history of discriminating against minority voters. >> now to the east bay this morning with the oakland a's continue their quest for a brand new ballpark, whether it's in oakland or outside the bay area. they've made some progress. the city efforts are still working on to try to keep the keep the team in the east bank. oakland mayor libby schaaf says the alameda county

board of supervisors meeting next week to hear a proposal to join the city of oakland and infrastructure financing district. she says the money made in the infrastructure project will be put toward community benefits including keeping the a's in oakland. >> meantime, a's president dave campbell says that the team is working with the city and alameda county do try and come to a resolution, but he says las vegas is still in the running. >> we have the parallel going with our getting the county hopefully on board next week or next week or so. i think the city council vote. but at the same time working with the southern nevada officials to understand what could occur there, where they need to a private partnership could exist and is the market feasible for baseball in that location. so those things continue to happen in parallel directed by major league baseball will continue to do that. in bull markets is as the summer transpires. the alameda county board of supervisors is set to vote on

we approach high noon into the 80's inland as babe a rather stays into the 70's. there's that fog that mixes out just in the next couple of hours. it comes back again tonight. although briefly spilling into looks like the sacramento valley saw all of that feels good and nice relief from the morning hours, particularly current winds will bit of a breeze happening in london temperature check. we have the lower 60's for a good chunk of the east bay 59 for santa rosa 62 san jose. but for comparison, a little bit warmer than it's been from this time yesterday by more than half a dozen degrees to coming up a little bit. of course, we'll have your 4 zone forecast and we'll check into that longer-range spike forecast, too. california has the lowest case rate in the united states of america. and it is put us in a position. >> where we will most assuredly be able to move forward moving beyond the blueprint next tuesday. june 15th. well, governor newsome praising the states progress

in the fight against covid-19 is vaccination rates continue to rise. >> when california fully reopens on tuesday, most of the state's coronavirus rules will go away. governor newsom signed an executive order friday afternoon that says there will be no more capacity limits or physical distancing requirements for businesses and fully vaccinated. people can stop wearing masks in most public places. but it's important to note that this is not change. cal osha's workplace rules. and that means even though fully vaccinated people can ditch their masks in public. they will still need to wear them while they're working the executive order order also does not in the statewide emergency declaration, which means that governor newson still has the power to change or suspend. >> state laws in the future. >> now cal osha did release a new proposal for those covid-19 safety standards in the workplace. and as you might know, the agency did rescind the first set of changes because those new standards simply didn't fall in line with guidance from guidelines from the cdc.

>> nor the state department of public health kron four's. dan kerman has the details. >> cal osha has come up with a new proposal to modify its current covid-19 safety protocols in the workplace under the new proposal fully vaccinated employees do not need to wear face coverings except for certain situations during outbreaks and in settings, where the california department of public health requires all persons to wear them employers must verify and document the vaccination status. a fully vaccinated employees. if they do not wear face coverings indoors. physical distancing requirements have been eliminated except for certain employees during major outbreaks. employers must provide employees who are not fully vaccinated with respirators for voluntary use upon request and at no cost. the cal osha board is set to discuss this new proposal at their meeting on june 17th. >> that's 2 days after california's official

reopening. in san francisco. dan kerman kron 4 news. >> and we have all this information on our website at kron 4 dot com. you can pull out your phone and scanned the qr code. it will take you directly to our covid-19 section. >> well, another sign that the coronavirus pandemic is easing here in the bay area. san francisco plans to close its mass testing site along the embarcadero you may have seen the covid-19 testing 10th at pier 30 to 32, maybe even gone to get a test there. the site opened in april of last year and hundreds of thousands of people have been tested. their sense now demand for testing has dropped significantly and the city has decided to close the site down. we are really looking at increasing our vaccine rates continuing to for those efforts and then targeting our testing to those. >> places where there might continue to be under vaccination so that people can have access to that at testing at a low barrier way. and that means community testing sites and mobile testing events will

continue and that will be our main driver for testing. >> the last day at the pier at pier 30 testing site will be june. 15th after that, the city wants to shift to community-based testing. >> and san francisco mayor london breed says 80% of eligible san francisco residents, 12 years and older have received at least one dose of the covid vaccine and nearly 70% of all san franciscans are fully vaccinated. san francisco's the first major american city to achieve this milestone and the city's vaccination rates are among the highest in the country and in the world. in addition, 90% of all residents who are 65 and older have received at least one dose. >> some encouraging news on the vaccine front in the south bay nearly nearly 80% of eligible santa clara county residents are now vaccinated and that's why health officials there say max mass vaccination site simply no longer needed. kron four's. gayle ong now has more from levi stadium which is planning to close its site in less than

2 weeks. >> the rollout of the covid-19 vaccine is speeding up in santa clara county, which is why temporary sites are no longer needed. we >> very proud within the entire county. we're at 77.8% of those who received least one dose, within our hispanic and latino community. it should be noted that only 55.1% of of our community has been vaccinated. county officials announced the transition plan for mass vaccination sites in a virtual meeting wednesday. the site at burger closed friday, june 11th. >> levi stadium will be closing on june 24th those who need second doses can go to the county fairgrounds. high school will close on july 8, 2nd doses will be available at the valley health center in gilroy mountain view community center has no closing date as of friday but plans are in place to offer second doses at the valley health center in sunnyvale as covid cases are at an all-time low county

police say 2 homes in the allendale area were hit by bullets. a number of times after 2 weeks of investigating police searched the targeted home and found all those illegal items. >> and also in oakland, a 12 year-old boy was shot after thieves trying to steal a catalytic converter from his family car. it happened friday morning on ross and street. police say the boy and a relative saw the thieves attempting to steal the converter. a member of the family threw a chair at the suspects who then fired shots hitting the boy in the foot. police say the suspects left the scene in 2 different cars. they're asking that anybody who has any information on this to give them a call. san san francisco police also asking for your help, looking for this guy. he's a 10 year-old stolen dog a yorkshire terrier. he was stolen thursday night just after 10 o'clock at night. now, the dog's owner says that the park, the car on north point street near powell and let their dog, leo. they left their dog. leo inside the car when they returned to the car,

their car window was broken and leo was gone. now he does have some minor health issues according to his owner and they are saying that if you have seen leo, please call sfpd day. >> ok. it's going to be early summer time day going on for today, mostly sunny skies across the bay area with temperatures reaching into the 80's for those inland valleys. coming up a little bit. we'll take a look at that for zone forecast and that extended with a heat spike coming up in a bit.

gate is missing. that's where officials say the driver loud through the restaurant, through the tables and eventually hit the wall here at the restaurant. however, that truck did not make it through the the restaurant. but we're going to give you a look at what it was like last night. this happened. >> at the sports bar and restaurant it's located on alma avenue here in san jose officials responded around 9 o'clock last night. >> the white chevrolet silverado truck plowed through the restaurant. officials are calling this a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. now officials say a male driver accidentally placed the vehicle and reversed. he stepped on the gas pedal and reversed at a high rate of speed. the driver hit 3 people, one woman and 2 men. they were all sitting outside a restaurant. the 3 customers were transported to a local hospital where the woman died. the 2 men suffered non life threatening injuries. now the driver is alex moreno. there was also a passenger in the

morning wrote some folks waking up a little fog in their in their yeah, i'm not really a day to sit out on the patio today. grab that cup of coffee, though dave spahr says that it is going to warm up quite nicely throughout the week, though heyday. >> yeah, good morning, guys. good morning, everybody will look at those temperatures. returning back to the 80's and repeating it again for tomorrow. still negotiate through some of that fog east bay shoreline. as you can see there and still kind of the overcast cloudiness that we see that again will start to thin out. and the next couple of hours here. sunshine will be peering out yet again. although temperatures will be somewhat controlled around the bay contrast and to what they will do. well, inland. here's what we're looking up up to tahoe, temperatures pretty much maintain into the 70's. no major changes. this is before the heat spike comes our way, though, that will be to the latter portion of the week. stormtracker four's been showing the set of the typical trend we've seen really over the last 3 weeks or so, although we're too far south for it. these systems continue to move from the pacific northwest in the pacific there. but we're just a little too far south to get the impact of that temperature

check. word 64 oakland 64 san francisco, 70 antioch. but most readings again into the 60's looking at futurecast for here. first things first. looks like we might get a little dish of some light rain showers occurring at the coast and along the east bay shoreline potentially here. that will be sunday overnight. but it's all since gone by monday. same traffic until the middle of the week get to wednesday, thursday. start to see a flow pattern coming in from the southeast. this is very reminiscent of the monsoon which technically kicks in on tuesday. not much going on for right now. that's good news there. but the danger for us is it can produce high thunder showers. in all we get is the lightning part of the program, not the rain usually looks like this will kind of be continued. the part systems from us over into next week, although the heat spike should relax. the next weekend. we're kind of stuck in the same little pattern there. 4 zone forecast. we do about 69 coming in for san francisco. most the coastal numbers will stay in the mid

investigators say a male driver accidentally placed the car in reverse. he stepped on the gas pedal and backed up super fast as a result, the driver hit 3 people with his car. >> one woman and 2 men. they were all sitting outside the food joy, the 3 customers were transported to a local hospital where the woman died. the 2 men are said to be okay now this is a driver, alex marino. he was accompanied by a woman on the passenger side. she was not hurt. officers say moreno was impaired at the time. the collision happened. he was booke and gross vehicle or man slaughter. now officials are calling this a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. this is the 8th one in san jose where a car has struck and killed a pedestrian this year. now, just moments ago, i spoke to the manager here at the sports bar and grill. she tells me that her and her employees are going to regroup and figure out when they are going to

that part of highway 99 is now completely closed and will remain shut down to traffic for the next 4 days. that's right. crews are going to be replacing the 62 year-old bridge 21st avenue. so all lanes of highway 99 in both directions from 47th avenue all the way to the highway. 50 connector. >> or shut down. so officials are recommending several alternate routes. caltrans says northbound commuters from elk grove in san joaquin county should use i-five instead to get to sacramento. >> we're encouraging people to take i 5 as an alternate route but also plan accordingly. you know, there's going to be a lot of people using i 5 as well. caltrans is urging people to use the light rail during this time since it will be free during the four-day period. >> in the east bay oakland police have arrested 2 people for selling drugs making fake documents and credit cards and possessing multiple guns. this arrest comes after police responded to reports of gunshots in the allendale area on may 30th police say 2 homes

in that neighborhood were hit by bullets. a number of times and after a 2 week investigation, police searched the targeted home and found all those illegal items. >> also in oakland, a 12 year-old boy was shot after thieves trying to steal a catalytic converter from his family's car. it happened friday morning on ross and street. police say the boy and a relative saw the thieves trying to steal the converter. a member of the family threw a chair at the suspects who then fired shots hitting the boy in the foot. police say the suspects then left the scene in 2 different cars and oakland police are asking anyone who has in for any information on this to give them a call. san francisco police also asking for your help to find a stolen dog. there he is right there. what cutie 10 year-old yorkshire terrier was stolen thursday night just after 10:00pm. the dog's owner says they parked on north point street near powell and left their dog named leo inside the car. but when they returned to the car, they found the window was broken and leo was gone. now

coronavirus pandemic is easing here in the bay area. san francisco plans to close its mass testing site along the embarcadero you may have seen the covid-19 testing tent at pierce 3032 or you probably got a test there yourself the site opened back in april of last year and hundreds of thousands of people have been tested since now demand for testing has dropped significantly in the city has decided to close the site down. >> we are really looking at increasing our vaccine rates continuing to for those efforts and then targeting our testing to those places where there might continue to be under vaccination so that people can have access to that at testing at a low barrier way. and that means community testing sites and mobile testing events will continue and that will be our main driver for testing. >> the last day of testing at the pier 30 site will be tuesday. june 15. >> san francisco mayor london breed says 80% of eligible san francisco residents 12 years and older have received at least one dose of the covid
