>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 7. >> good saturday morning to you. i'm noelle bellow. it is saturday june 19th marty gonzales has the day off today. we do have a lot to get to this morning, but we want to start, but getting you a check of your weather forecast is nice and hot yesterday dave spahr. is it going to be not so hot again today in spots is something that way. good morning. well, good morning, we're seeing a little bit of starting to build a bit for us. that will happen at the coast and around the bay, but well, inland will still be popping near 100. looks like in some of those far east bay locations around the delta

certainly contra costa county and solano counties. the places to look for that. but one of the things we're seeing is the fog coming in this morning that some nice treat their this the east bay shoreline. you can see how thick it is and that will be a player. looks like in the morning hours as we get into next week. the zipper truck is busy at the golden gate bridge. >> and the towers are both obscured from all of this to this will mix out and yes, we see the from know your map again with the heat advisory covering the east bay some spots up to the north bay with solano county and that excessive heat warning this until 10 for this evening. again, some of those inland spots may pop into 100 or so this fog, by the way, mixes out pretty quickly by 10 o'clock. as you can see, only to come back again for tonight. the coverage area is not real role. great, however, doesn't get too far south only right across the golden gate to the east bay shoreline and then a nice little chunk up there to the north bay temperature. check for us right now we're in the 60's and 50's over most of the geography and a little cooler this morning that we were this time yesterday in some cases

but a half-dozen degrees behind, although we will catch up pretty quickly this morning, there's the east basin peering through the fog. as you can see, 85 by 11 by 2 still about 96. but they temperatures in the 70's and still some 80's with a closer inspection of your forecast coming up in just a bit. no thanks, dave. breaking news this morning. fire officials are working to put out a. >> one alarm fire that broke out in a 6 story structure along leavenworth street. this is video from the citizen app. sfpd is on scene as well as s f f d as many rescues are in. progress are asking people to avoid the area. also breaking overnight, a shooting at a nightclub in the south bay left multiple people injured kron four's camila barco live this morning in san jose with the very latest details. camila. >> yes and no. vaccine has been cleared them for only at the san jose police department where officers are continuing

to find out exactly what happened to men and it's easy to men and one woman were shot and in the early morning hours today and this is video of the scene. several officers responded to or a night club just after midnight it's located on south first street in the heart of downtown police say 2 victims were located outside a nightclub in the video you'll see a man and woman were being treated for gunshot wounds. those 2 were taken to the hospital and their injuries are considered to be non life threatening. but in this video you'll see a 3rd victim was located in mountain view. that man was also shot at or near the nightclub. it appears the victim tried to drive himself to the hospital, but officers and first responders we're able to catch up with him. he was also taken to the hospital. now it is unclear if the shooting happened inside or outside the club. but in

the video, hopefully you can hear that some music continued to play while officers tried to help. said earlier that the investigation continues into what led up to this shooting right now police are still looking for the person responsible for this early morning shooting. well, back to you. alright camila, thank you for that live report. >> also breaking overnight in san francisco police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead. it happened on navy road near griffith street around midnight. the victim died on scene. the cause of the shooting is unknown. there's no word right now. if any suspect have been arrested. that's another big story we're following. brush fires burning up and down the bay area, keeping firefighters on high alert. crews were. >> busy in san jose friday and all week long responding to spot fires like the ones you see behind me while they usually stay small.

>> the spot fires are becoming an almost daily occurrence which is concerning given the drought and our dry conditions. kron four's. gayle ong has more. details. >> san jose firefighters quickly doused the flames of this brush fire that ignited on the highway. one o one off-ramp near mckee road. the fire broke out around 06:00pm smoke could be seen from the area of thursday, evening's brush fire that came dangerously close to homes. a resident says he saw the fire start from the road and make its way down the hill. no homes were destroyed. but the fire charred 2 cars and sent one person to the hospital with non life threatening injuries with the bone dry conditions and an early start to fire season. firefighters have been preparing ahead of time refreshing. all of our wild land firefighting training. >> we have you know, doing a lot of outreach to the community to help encourage them to be aware of wildfires. the risks that they pose and how they can be prepared to respond in case of fire breaks

out. firefighters were busy friday just before 04:00pm crews responded to a vegetation fire in the area of south 7th street. >> and virginia street. no reported injuries or structures were damaged earlier in the day around 01:00pm crews contained a vegetation fire near coyote creek tree cutters removed a birch tree. the cause of the fires are under investigation. san jose fire public information manager erica ray says most fires can be prevented. the fire can spark in many in many ways it can be something as simple as. >> you chains that are being drugged and or underneath someone's car that cause a spark that ignites a fire on the side of the freeway could be a cigarette that's tossed out the window. >> as the south bay is facing drought conditions like much of the bay area. san jose city officials are focusing on cracking down on illegal fireworks and are urging the public to report any activity. >> you can find that information on our website. kron 4 dot com in san jose. gayle ong kron 4 news.

>> another brush fire was burning along 6.80 near marsh view road and solano county friday. cal fire is assisting local crews on this one there last update have that fired about 20 acres the southbound lanes of i 6.80 were shut down for about 2 hours. but have since reopened. no evacuation orders were ever issued. meanwhile, another fire popped up in big sur yesterday and quickly grew to 2000 acres. this is some time lapse video from pg. any of the willow fire. according to the u.s. forest service. it's currently burning in the event on a wilderness more than 300 firefighters are on the ground fighting flames. several residents have been forced to evacuate in this one. the national weather service says this wind. the wind is going to be pushing that fire north. right now on kron 4 dot com. you can find tips and information to get yourself ready for fire season. as you can see, it is pretty active already. use your mobile

get a quote today. >> developing news this morning. scott peterson's defense will submit their final arguments next week as to why he should be granted an entirely new trial in the murders of his wife, lacey and unborn son connor peterson was convicted back in 2002 for the murders. and while his death sentence was overturned by the state supreme court last year. he is still on death row while he appeals his conviction alleged juror misconduct is at the heart of whether peterson could get a whole new trial. prosecutors now want him formally sentenced to life in prison. but peterson's attorney says his client should not be sentence while the case is being appealed now peterson remains in san quentin state prison. he attended friday's hearing via zoom his next hearing at the san mateo county courthouse is set for august 25th dave.

>> welcome back. 7.14 here on this saturday morning in the city of morgan hill has declared a level 2 water shortage. the declaration aims to reduce consumer demand for water by 21 to 40% during the drought. follows the recent water emergency announced by the broader santa clara valley water district. now effective immediately residential and commercial customers are restricted to watering their lawns and landscaping to just 3 days a week. numbered addresses may water on monday, thursday and saturday, even numbered addresses should water on tuesday, friday and sundays. the mayor of morgan hill told us how he plans to enforce these new rules. >> if somebody following the orders will send him a letter and then we'll educate them on what they can do to save more water. but right now we're not looking at finding anyone, but we have that ability in order do that. >> other restrictions include

no more filling or refilling ornamental ponds or lakes with drinking water. also water leaks must be repaired within 48 hours and irrigation must be limited to 15 minutes per day. of course. all this happening as have not had any significant rain for months. it's time to check in our weather forecast kron four's, dave spahr standing by. >> dave still absolutely no rain in our forecast. high know yet top also just harvest. some of this fog is sometimes do that, though. but we haven't really got up to speed on all that. >> there's water in the air here is in the east bay shoreline, as you can see, they're going on, by the way, that marine layer is going to really start intensifying into next weekend. we'll have a different type of weather pattern from the big h that's been overhead still one more day, though, of this. we have all those statements we've been talking about there again, as i showed you at the top of the hour here. very this again is the east bay shoreline. we have the fog that aggressive this morning. the golden gate is all covered up with the fog going on. but

here, too. this will probably mix out as the day starts to progress temperature. this looks nice 60's all over the board with that green in place. upper 50's line at the east bay shoreline. 63 meanwhile, san jose up to the north bay santa rosa coming in 5460. meanwhile for napa, it is trailing by several degrees behind where we were at this time yesterday in some cases getting close to half a dozen fairfield. negative 7 dovato trailing by about 5 watching this into motion. a future cast for not a whole lot happens. we can see the fog comes back again. it looks like for late tonight. yes, sure mixes out again by the late morning hours. but what's more interesting as we get into monday. look at this. this the fog coming back again, but a little bit more intense coverage and that's the sign of things starting to change. we'll have a little system meandering off of our coast a little bit here. it may have some patches of some drizzle and light rain. i guess the only role plus about this is frustration in trying to get some rain out of the

atmosphere. is it at least will dampen things a little bit and be less of a fire hazard to and also take the edge off these temperatures yet. that's a given mild to cool at the coast and bay still hot inland. the 90's remain will be racing to near 100 again in those usual suspect areas for tomorrow. mild for the bay hot spots inland. but this time we're shifting into the lower 90's that's a big drop. a drop from how it's been much of the week and then next week mild a pleasant warm happening in london. deeper marine layer at work. as i mentioned earlier, it may be enough to kind of scrounge up a little patch of some drizzle or light rain even during the day, potentially near the water's edge a bit. and again, this up. meandering low off of our coast will be watching 69 san francisco 76 for oakland 89 san jose nice little flavor of kind of a different topography forecast. we have we still see the micro cast. michael forecast checking in which we do see the micro-climate in the big picture one. oh, 01:00am iraq concord 98. meanwhile half moon bay at 62

redwood city still getting some of those 80's in the peninsula. as you can see in 82 for mountain view with a bottle coming in about 89 coming up in a bit. of course, that 7 day forecast looking at for sona for you as well well, thanks, dave. >> governor gavin newsome was assaulted during his recent visit here to the bay area. he was in oakland thursday to promote small businesses. and as he was walking to a barbershop pizzeria. chp says he was suddenly approached by a, quote, aggressive individual chp does provide security for the governor. they were able to take the man into custody. the suspect is a 54 year-old who was taken to the alameda county jail where he was booked for assaulting a public official. he was identified by a family member has homeless and suffering with mental health problems. governor newsome did not appear to be injured. california attorney general rob bonta is taking a stand against human trafficking on friday he announced 2 new

specialized anti-trafficking teams. lawmakers say human trafficking cases spiked during california's lockdown which made it more difficult for crime victims to escape and find other housing resources. >> overall, there will be 13 asians and to crime analysts on positions that are going to directly tapping in efforts to eradicate human trafficking in the state making a mistake by human trafficking is an effort to change lives. there's nothing worse. person can to another person, then take away humanity. >> in addition to the 2 new specialized teams bonta also urge governor newsom to set aside 30 million dollars from the state budget in new grants specifically to fight trafficking. the deadline to pass the state budget is july 1st. well, the idea of a wnba team coming to the city of oakland is a little closer to

reality on friday morning. commissioners agreed to. >> bring a possible least of the oakland arena up for a vote next month. that's where the african american sports and entertainment group wants to bring a women's professional basketball team at everett and jones bbq at jack london square. the group praise to the commission's vote and said it's also made an official proposal to the wnba. >> when we see our our teams leave. it's something that's painful for us. but that doesn't mean it's the end for us because whenever you any door closes, as we know, doors open. >> the coliseum authority is scheduled to vote on the lease proposal which would include specific dates. the wnba would be housed at the arena. oakland vice mayor rebecca kaplan says the board is excited about the proposal and hopes of all goes well. the wnba could be in oakland as soon as next year. when we come back, the giants look to continue their hot streak, taking on the phillies. >> our kylen mills has all your sports highlights after

going on today, but it's going to be plenty toasty for those inland valleys and we're keeping some of those statements around for it looks like another day before we get some relief happening here for everybody on sunday and on into early next week. different weather pattern will be treating us to next week, too. so here's what we've got going on right now. yes, the fog is coming back a little bit. we like to see that there's the east bay shoreline, but it's starting to mix out. however, there's the shot. the distant shot from the bay bridge toll plaza where 85 by 11 o'clock in london 96. it looks like by midafternoon. so still plenty toasty in the inland valleys. while the bay will be in the 70's and the 80's for today. cool 60's covering the coast for that excessive heat. here's the deal. much of the east bay east of the east bay hills will be continue to experience that heat advisory as it will pockets up in the north bay peninsula. no longer santa cruz mountains. nope in the south bay has been taken out. solano counties still have the excessive heat warning going on for today. take a look at that fog coming back again tomorrow. the coverage is week. but we do

see some pockets of the developing in this is a new weather pattern. the will be ushered in on shore flow. we're starting to feel a little bit along the coast and along the east bay shore locations, although it's still what variable you can see in the east bay. there's the greens covering a good chunk of the bay itself. inland. we can see some relief to run the the. delta 66, by the way, for tri valley. 60 going on for napa and the comparison were a few degrees behind this time for yesterday. coming up, a little bit, of course, we'll have that 4 zone forecast for you and then extended with relief in sight. well. >> thanks, dave. breaking news. a fire officials are still working to put out one alarm fire in san francisco. this is video from the citizen app. the fire broke out just before 6.30 this morning in a 6 story building on leavenworth street in the tenderloin searches on all floors have been completed. they were evacuating people out of that building sfpd is on scene and asking folks to avoid the area. here in the

bay area. the vta mass shooting is still fresh in the minds of so many 9 lives lost just a little more than 3 weeks ago. leaders across the bay area gathered yesterday in union city to remember these 9 men and to show support for legislation on gun reform. kron four's amanda hari was there and has more on the calls for change. >> dozens of people elected officials, community members and friends and family of the vta shooting victims. all came together remember those 9 lives lost. i will promise you all. >> that. i am dedicating my life. we continue his legacy on and that won't change. carmen singh's, brother taptejdeep singh was killed in the shooting. >> we didn't just shoot my brother, but he killed all of those with it seeing spoke at the event. >> he says his family immigrated to america for the american dream this shooting and the loss of his brother

federal judge overturn california's assault weapons ban. >> they wanted to stay in place in union city amanda hari kron 4 news. >> the man accused of stabbing a 94 year-old asian woman several times in san francisco earlier this week has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges. 35 year-old daniel cowiche made his first court appearance yesterday. the also pleaded not guilty to charges of battery and elder abuse. this is video of the aftermath from the citizen app that stabbing happened wednesday morning in the tenderloin district at the time cowiche was on a ankle monitor and facing burglary charges in an unrelated incident district attorney chesa boudin says he asked a judge to keep couch detained. but the dean claims that request was denied. now yesterday prosecutors read a statement from victim on taylor's family saying she is still recovering and is both

mentally and emotionally traumatized from the attack. cal, which is currently being held without bail. he is due back in court next tuesday. >> it's sweltering it's uncomfortable. yeah. i would want to be out there right now. 9900 degree plus weathers that most people want to be inside with their cold >> triple digit heat in downtown livermore. but people were still out and about friday night instead of packing the outdoor tables. however, folks are choosing to dine in where there's some air conditioning. this will be the first weekend with no covid-19 restrictions in place. no social distancing and no mask requirements. a few people we spoke to did braved the heat but others chose to stay cool. instead. >> it isn't too bad. it's kind of comfortable. but we're out here because we want to stay safe. my first sitting at the bar. at the brewery. it's

>> welcome back to 7745 here on this saturday morning. a lots of people flocking to the coast to try and beat the heat this week. there are some pretty big crowds out in pacifica both in and out of the water. people. we spoke to say after living with the pandemic for so long. it feels good to be getting back to normal. >> it's definitely feels like a weight been lifted off. everybody shoulders and it's great to get here yet. >> it is going to get a little bit cooler as we head into this weekend. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow have was saying just how hot it was going to be dave. i know yesterday i was in san jose day and it was so, so warm. is it going to cool down for those folks down in san jose today. i use the word cool down, which is moderation

first and then we'll get you know, kind of a changing climate looks like by the time we get early next week. so we're going in and steps now san jose is not in the heat advisory in the longer that's been taken out of the peninsula has been taken out as well. but we're still hanging with that for another day or so. we have at least the morning fog to greet us that around the bay in the coastal areas too. >> we showed you some videotape of what's going on on a videotape that video what's going pacifica. so yes, some relief to be had. they're going to feel those temperatures coming down even today and into tomorrow. here's the morning fog reading us east bay shoreline also, we have the drought. here's the latest map that's come out to see the coverage area in terms of exceptional, i'd say about 2 thirds, the bay area is an exceptional category and if not, well, you're an extreme. so has an improved much this week. day forecast does not look like it's going to help with that. but at least we'll get that marine layer. it's a little thicker. not so hot. we'll get some more moisture in the atmosphere kind of moisten up the ground a little

bit as well, at least in parts in and around the bay and we don't see can't mechanisms to doing this right now. we're still kind of locked in the same pattern. but this out to the east is going start the weekend and we'll see a system dropping in from the pacific. it's going to stay off to the coast. not really going to do too much for us here. temperature check a 58 per oakland 58 hayward inland so far. well, in the business of the 60's got the lower 60's up north 54 for santa rosa. so we're seeing some of that cool down at night starting to take hold again with this marine layer starting to intrude and will get progressively more aggressive. here's what it looks like as we get into next week. there you see this low off to the sea. and the thing is it was able to tap in any real moisture. hey, we have a completely different forecast. we're talking about rain will be wonderful, but. outside of that at least we get the next best thing. stronger marine layer, patches of some drizzle going on. so as a fire hazard, it really helps out a little bit there. kind of keeps things will moist air and it looks like weeklong also breaks the heat wave which

a bit. >> however, the sun is joining us and so will be mixing that out for mostly sunny day across the bay area, including around the golden gate and some other problem areas. and let's check in with the see how they are from the visible point of view. here's half moon bay instill that coastal fog not a surprise that will linger a little bit later on the morning hours, the golden gate bridge working on it, although the 2 towers are obscured by the fog, if you will. so here's the excessive heat. we still have another day of this advisory zone. that's all in the east bay over the east bay hills up in the north bay pockets of it as you will notice and solano county. yeah. you have that excessive heat warning inland. we expect temperatures to still top off at near 100 or so. but a lot of 60's are greeting us this morning, by the way, for tomorrow. it looks like that fog will redevelop. it looks like here's what it is. by 11:00am it's completely gone. tonight. it spills across the golden gate. as you can see in the delta little bit. but it doesn't progressed too far. south yet. things are going to change later on this week.

on high alert crews were busy in san jose friday and all week long responding to spot fires. they usually start small, but they're becoming an almost daily occurrence, which is concerning given the drought and dry conditions kron four's. gayle ong has more. details. >> san jose firefighters quickly doused the flames of this brush fire that ignited on the highway. one o one off-ramp near mckee road. the fire broke out around 06:00pm smoke could be seen from the area of thursday, evening's brush fire that came dangerously close to homes. a resident says he saw the fire start from the road and make its way down the hill. no homes were destroyed. but the fire charred 2 cars and sent one person to the hospital with non life threatening injuries with the bone dry conditions and an early start to fire season. firefighters have been preparing ahead of time refreshing. all of our wild land firefighting training. >> we have you know, doing a lot of outreach to the

community to help encourage them to be aware of wildfires. the risks that they pose and how they can be prepared to respond in case of fire breaks out. firefighters were busy friday just before 04:00pm crews responded to a vegetation fire in the area of south 7th street. >> and virginia street. no reported injuries or structures were damaged earlier in the day around 01:00pm crews contained a vegetation fire near coyote creek tree cutters removed a birch tree. the cause of the fires are under investigation. san jose fire public information manager erica ray says most fires can be prevented. the fire can spark in many in many ways it can be something as simple as. >> you chains that are being drugged and or underneath someone's car that cause a spark that ignites a fire on the side of the freeway could be a cigarette that's tossed out the window. >> as the south bay is facing drought conditions like much of the bay area. san jose city officials are focusing on cracking down on illegal

fireworks and are urging the public to report any activity. >> you can find that information on our website. kron 4 dot com in san jose. gayle ong kron 4 news. >> another brush fire was burning along. i 6 ad yesterday near marsh view road in solano county. cal fire is assisting local crews on this one there last update have that fired about 20 acres, southbound lanes of i 6.80 were shut down for about 2 hours yesterday but have since reopened. no evacuation orders were ever issued down in monterey county. another fire popped up this one near big sur yesterday and it quickly grew to 2000 acres. this is some time lapse video from pg. any of the willow fire. according to the u.s. forest service it's currently burning in the event on a wilderness, an is more and more than 300 firefighters are on the ground fighting those flames. several residents have been forced to evacuate the national weather service says the wind is going to be pushing that fire north.

week as to why he should be granted an entirely new trial in the murders of his wife lacey and unborn son conner kron four's maureen kelly was at the courthouse. this weekend reports the judge could issue a ruling on this in the coming months. >> the status. la county da actually showed up in person inside the redwood city courtroom today to try to get the judge to set a sentencing date for scott peterson. now that she's no longer seeking to have his death sentence reinstated for the murders of his wife, lacey and unborn son connor. that sentence was tossed by the california supreme court over errors made by the original trial judge during jury selection. but that's been tabled for now. so peterson remains on death row in san quentin despite no longer being sentenced to death or even having any sentence at all. the department of corrections says they don't plan to move him until he is re sentence. but that's going to have to wait until after the current judge decides if peterson should get a whole new trial because of

alleged juror misconduct by this woman rochelle nice the same higher court found she failed to disclose that she had filed a restraining order while she herself was pregnant he says tonight keeping that back in order to get on the jury. peterson's lawyer pat harris doesn't buy it. we have somebody who just flatly lived our face and. >> it made it so that. we had somebody on there was what we call a stealth juror, someone who had a disposition to convict him and get on there to convict him. >> and she succeeded. today we learned that peterson's legal team will be submitting their final arguments as to why the judge should rule in their favor next thursday and she's given herself 60 days to mull it over peterson appeared remotely and because of audio issues could not speak for himself because of those technical glitches and the state's reopening in terms of the pandemic. the judge said he could appear in person at his next court date. so peterson could actually be sitting inside the courtroom

saturday morning. cities and water retailers are scrambling. now to cut consumption due to the current water emergency announced by the santa clara valley water district the city of morgan hill has stepped up by declaring a level 2 water shortage kron four's rob fladeboe explains what it means for you. >> the sign here on front of the morgan hill community center is flashing the news that the city council has declared a level 2 water supply shortage. the days appear numbered for a lush green grass like this. the city council's action means residential and commercial customers will be restricted to watering their lawns and landscaping to 3 days per week effective immediately odd-numbered addresses may water on monday, thursday and saturday well, even numbered addresses can water on tuesday, friday and sunday under the ordinance a level 2 water supply shortage is defined by the need to reduce consumer demand for water by 21 to 40%. >> well, in the last drought

morgan hill, resident stepped believe that the valley water has this to say about 20 to 25% and morgan hill where that was the leader in throughout the county. we can serve our citizens conserve more water than any city in the county. so i imagine that our city will step in this emergency due to exact same thing. although mostly dependent on groundwater. morgan hill is home to anderson reservoir, which was dreamed ahead of a seismic safety retro fit. >> the empty reserve or the largest in the county underscores the june 9th decision by the water district to impose a mandatory water use reduction of 33%. meanwhile, the water shortage declaration here in morgan hill means filling or refilling ornamental ponds or lakes with potable water is prohibited water leaks must be repaired within 48 hours and hoses must have shut-off nozzles and each irrigation bill must be limited to 15 minutes per day as for enforcement of the new rules. so right now we're it's called the soft touch approach where

have a little low kind of camping up our backyard. good news is the brakes. the back of the heat wave. so that's going to be gone after this weekend. you have a little bit of the lingering today certainly. and even tomorrow for those inland valleys. here's the golden gate bridge with the towers pretty much obscured by all of this. yes, again, fog temperature check. we're in the 60's over most of the real estate 74 already for antioch. so they're not waiting at start cruzan lower 60's line up the east bay shoreline 66 for san jose for comparison sake, though. we're cooler over most of the geography this morning. then we saw from yesterday morning futurecast doesn't show us too much. we have the fog returning again for tonight. tomorrow morning. then as we start to get into monday. a little bit of a different pattern is a lot more aggressive. as you can see, spelling in couple splotches of green show up there. so in downtown san francisco might even have some of the drizzle fog overnight a bit with that, too. so for today it's mild to cool at the coastal areas in the bay hot inland 90's remain tomorrow. mild for the bay.

now. and we have hot spots inland lower 90's this go around. so it's kind of like by steps, then by monday we really get cooking here or cooling. mild to pleasant warm still inland. we'll see those lofty upper 80's at work and everything but deeper marine layer come along with the ride. so that's really going to feel good. that's what talking about. expect. a lot of the fog in the morning hours, maybe some patches of drizzle thrown in for good measure particularly when this low is really close to us, which will be showing you in the long range forecast 69 san francisco 89 san jose's. you have a 20 degree spread there. just right across the bay. 76 for oakland across the wider bay. those numbers still very lofty eastern contra, costa county also alameda county 99 livermore up to santa rosa who stopped to 93 and it looks like san jose still coming in about 89. they're no longer in that statement, by the way. so that heat advisories over the east bay hill still spots up here in the north bay and then course a county with the excessive heat warning coming up in a bit. we'll check in

see it half moon bay, though, although starting to lift off. it looks like a little bit in the last couple of frames. so for today, going remain hot in those inland valleys, some relief around the bay and certainly at the coast, we're seeing that process as well. and here's what's going on for right now. the satellite picture doesn't have our new intruder coming into early next week. that's going really cool us down bring fog and potentially some drizzle. once this high weakens. we'll have a meandering low off of our coast now with a cutoff low show. it doesn't much moisture deal with. that's only about this. but at least it will be kind of close by here and that will keep temperatures down. looks like a little bit 74 for antioch, 69 for livermore 66 conquered east bay shoreline is hold on to the 60's for right now. we've got 60's up to the north bay too 57 for san francisco. here's what i'm talking about. as the atmosphere changes. here's the slow kind of in our backyard. very impressive off to the west, but to the east doesn't have much moisture what you negotiate with. so we'll get that fog in the morning hours in some patches of drizzle

at known. >> good morning. thanks for joining us here on the kron 4 morning news. i'm noelle bellow. marty gonzales has the day off. it saturday. >> june 19th juneteenth. there's lots of events going on this weekend across the bay area for juneteenth, but it's going to be a little toasty in some of those areas. dave sphar has the details for us a day. a good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and we're still looking at those temperatures. well inland to get up to around 100 or so by this afternoon we're getting some relief, though around the coast and around the east bay shoreline a little bit as this fog will start to mix out as we get into the afternoon hours to start things off, though it's covered over the east bay shoreline for right now. again, this will mix out as well as the golden gate bridge, we can make out some of that sun coming up over the east bay hills. >> so there are excessive heat. we still have the heat advisory covering the east bay in spots up to the north base. a lot of counties still have an excessive heat warning with temperatures getting in and around 100. as for the fog, it's pretty much going to be

gone for now. but tomorrow it comes back again, not quite the intensity that we're used to. that's something we'll see. get stronger into next week as we see some colder temperatures are way 74 for antioch at this hour. east bay shoreline much in the 60's as we see up to the north bay with cool 50's going on for san francisco and at half moon bay trailing by some half a dozen degrees going on at this hour. so the breakdown for you about 93 by 1 o'clock at 4 o'clock at 97. coming up a little bit. we'll take a closer look at what your weekend forecast looks like. well. >> we're following breaking news. fire officials are working to have put out and one alarm fire in san francisco. this is video from the citizen app. the fire broke out just before 6.30 this morning in the 6 story building on leavenworth street in the tenderloin searches on all floors have been completed about 20 people have been were rescued. 15 people were injured. crews still remain on

scene this morning. but again, that fire has been contained to just that one building cars for that fire is under investigation. also breaking overnight, a shooting at a nightclub in the south bay has left multiple people injured. it happened at or a nightclub in the heart of downtown san jose. just after midnight officers responded to the scene and found 2 victims outside the nightclub. in the video. you see a man and a woman were being treated for gunshot wounds. they were both taken to the hospital, their injures or injuries are considered to be non life threatening a 3rd victim was located in mountain view. it's unclear how that victim got there. but the man was also shot at or near the nightclub. it appears the victim tried to drive himself to the hospital but officers and first responders, we're able to catch up with him. he was also taken to the hospital. unclear if the shooting happened inside or outside this aura nightclub. police are now looking for the person

responsible. and in san francisco, police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead. it happened on navy road near griffith street around midnight. when officers arrived, they found a 24 year-old. san francisco man suffering from gunshot wounds. that man was transported by paramedics to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. the cause of the shooting unknown. no word on if any suspects have been arrested. well, brush fires burning up and down the bay area are keeping firefighters on high alert. crews were busy in san jose friday and all week long responding to spot fires. and while those fires usually stay small. they're becoming an almost daily occurrence, which is pretty concerning given the drought and our dry conditions. kron four's. gayle ong has more. details. >> san jose firefighters quickly doused the flames of this brush fire that ignited on the highway. one o one

off-ramp near mckee road. the fire broke out around 06:00pm smoke could be seen from the area of thursday, evening's brush fire that came dangerously close to homes. a resident says he saw the fire start from the road and make its way down the hill. no homes were destroyed. but the fire charred 2 cars and sent one person to the hospital with non life threatening injuries with the bone dry conditions and an early start to fire season. firefighters have been preparing ahead of time refreshing. all of our wild land firefighting training. >> we have you know, doing a lot of outreach to the community to help encourage them to be aware of wildfires. the risks that they pose and how they can be prepared to respond in case of fire breaks out. firefighters were busy friday just before 04:00pm crews responded to a vegetation fire in the area of south 7th street. >> and virginia street. no reported injuries or structures were damaged earlier in the day around 01:00pm crews contained a vegetation fire near coyote creek tree cutters removed a

were shut down for about 2 hours yesterday but have since reopened. no evacuation orders were ever issued. but down in monterey, another fire popped up near big sur yesterday. it quickly grew to 2000 acres. this is some time lapse video from pg. any of the willow fire. according to the u.s. forest service. it is currently burning in the event on a wilderness and more than 300 firefighters are on the ground fighting those flames sep flames several residents have been forced to evacuate according to the national weather service, the wind is pushing that fire nor. to the east bay now where authorities in contra, costa county arrested a 16 year-old boy earlier this week. he's accused of setting off fireworks from his apartment balcony and causing a small fire near pinole. now these are the fireworks that were confiscated fire was contained to the balcony area. did cause some extensive damage to the boy's apartment. this happened tuesday in the tara hills

that question. that's a complex question. and i would say, you know, not necessarily the mentality, but i would encourage all americans to deeply reflect own. >> black americans are folks who may feel. >> that they can't celebrate the 4th of why there. you're finding a safe place. more to so to speak. with celebrating juneteenth. there an excellent speech in july of 1852 by the late great frederick douglass called the meaning of the 4th of july for the and he lays the hypocrisy of the founding fathers of the founding principles of this country so well, the founding fathers of this country we're celebrating their liberation from from african americans were enslaved african americans were not even considered a full so i think we need to

deeply reflect own does often troubled history of history of our and was black americans were treated it, whether it's the institution of slavery, drone. quote, crow laws as well. structural institutionalized racism that impacts us today in 2021. >> well, as someone who is teaching our young i know there's been quite the push to try and improve our education system and how we educate our young people about african americans, slavery, how it's how it's impacted the black experience in america. can you talk just a little bit about how how you you give advice to some of these said maybe history, teachers in high school and elementary school. how can incorporate these types of lessons to to get people to better understand

have a better view of exactly what the black experiences here in america. >> thank you for that question. that's a great i would encourage my my k through 12 colleagues as well as my colleagues and higher education that was better understanding of the black american experience is to look specifically at american often times we study. history from a barrett from an emotional dew point. but let's look at the hard data. let's look at policies like the 3 compromise, the future, the slate back to 1793 that slate, the act of 1850. the dred scott supreme court decision 1857 i would encourage folks to engage and policies that were in many respects very anti-black and it shapes the united states of america of what it is today. one of the

most often look. >> overlooked period in american history. it's the reconstruction period in the united states. and that was a period where june team started in 1865, 1865 to 1877 this 12 year period and american history this new generation of african americans were now emancipated and by law by the 13th 1413th and 15th amendments they were as full citizens. and you know, went on to united states senate. the house of local and state we have the emergence of historically black colleges and universities. so it was a very interesting time of lot of big period of growth after americans. however, there was also does backlash this is an 1865 the ku klux was organize

more specifically to overturn those the progress craft american. so i would encourage folks to study, you know, american policy as well as recall reconstruction this country. okay. well, i know you know, of course, receiving federal recognition of this important day in american history is a step in the right direction. some say it's pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things in your opinion, what should the next issue be that our federal government focuses on for african americans blacks here in this country. >> absolutely. certainly i it's up. i agree. i and i the united states senate the house of representatives for passing this app. president joe biden for signing into law. it's certainly a symbolic and is said to celebrated and it should be recognized that next step certainly said be

recognizing the voting. i'm the full citizenship of african americans and that includes the the ability for every american having the right to vote. such a touchy issue in the post-election. where state governments are limiting voting so voting rights should be up there. also now is a wonderful time to begin to have a discussion on racial reconciliation in this country as well as reparations. >> here in california. i know there is a push for reparations to be. looked at more more. holy, there's a there's a group that's been formed and what not so i know that something here in california specifically, people are working on how she people celebrate juneteenth today. >> oh, if you feel i know we're in the middle of a global pandemic. but if you feel safe, go out and local

there are there's a make a big event at the fairgrounds in santa clara county. as well as throughout the bay area. so i encourage folks to go out and just both support. but again, going back the material gain. i would encourage folks also support black owned businesses. support our nation's historically black colleges and universities whether monetary gain. if you're a corporate certainly go out and recruit from these areas. there are talented bunch of of folks in historically black college us. i'm a proud graduate. of class university in orangeburg, south the first historically black college in the state of south carolina. also we need to think about. generally speaking. and turns of. of supporting juneteenth goes beyond just this day off this it's also important that folks
