detail heyday windshield wiper action to a little bit about that morning drizzle and everything. good morning, guys. good morning, everybody. caught a clouds and fog around the bay just like yesterday that will mix out as we get to the late morning hours and into the afternoon. expect a little breeze to come with as well. here's the shot in the east bay shoreline a promise. that's what it is. >> fog covering up for right now as we get into the late morning that will mix out and just like yesterday we can really see the towers of the golden gate bridge. but that ominous cloud cover and kind of spooky looking action is what we have to start the day off. speaking of that fog. you can see it does start to mix out a little bit by the later morning hours, right now, our temperatures in the 50's over most of the region filled up with all fog for right now. and again, temperatures will climb as expected in the inland areas although not quite as lofty as we saw from yesterday. so we're pretty close to yesterday's temperatures on balance this time. so here's the breakdown. 74 by 11 by 2, we're talking 84. we'll see some token 90's to be had inland. but we're looking for a minor warm-up in

the early part of the week will be backing off of that by the later week, we might have to battle some humidity to look at your forecast coming up in just a bit. marty. all right, dave, thanks a lot. let's get to the news this morning. there's a big crackdown on illegal fireworks in the east bay as the oakland police department recently seized 165 pounds of illegal fireworks. >> take a look at this video. oakland. police found this inside a man's truck. they made the bus after receiving tips of a person who was selling illegal fireworks in the area of 73rd and garfield avenues and with the 4th of july, just one week away. law enforcement reminding everyone that fireworks of all kinds are illegal and then anyone who's caught with them could face a hefty fine or jail time. >> that goes for a san francisco man as well. police seize 15,000 pounds of illegal fireworks and 1 million dollars in cash from his san francisco home. according to the san mateo county sheriff's office. this multi county bust is the result of a months long

undercover investigation. 61 year-old sam sand and 54 year-old jennifer dunn. when are both facing charges related to sales and possession of dangerous fireworks and explosives using surveillance during may and june police found all of this stash oakland warehouse at 2 separate homes across the bay area. sheriff's office says the amount of fireworks seized is so big the bomb squad's actually going to have to take it out of the area to destroy it all. well. it is the final weekend of june and people across the country are spending at celebrating pride just layer and thousands of them gathered at dolores park in san francisco saturday. >> kron four's amanda hari spoke with the many people who emphasized the importance of visibility. >> in 2020 pride month looked very different than it ever had before. many of the people i spoke to didn't get the chance to celebrate with their friends. so this year they're taking advantage of the entire month.

>> welcome back. in south florida. search teams continue to look through the rubble for victims of that partial condo building collapse this morning. officials say 156 people are unaccounted for. >> the death toll now stands at 5 reporter brian entin has the latest for us. those is sprayed water over the surfside collapse site as the fire continues to burn beneath the surface. >> by afternoon. most of the smoke had cleared and search and rescue crews were back on top of the pile they continue looking for any sign of life as we're continually still use our resources or sonar equipment for sound. and no, we haven't heard sound for a while. >> though, new sound to indicate life. but firefighters say there is still hope, especially because crews say there are crevices and it's still possible. people are trapped. what's your message to the families right now. they're waiting there. >> i don't really have a message other than to say we are 100% committed to. finding

and saving their relatives. and that's what this whole effort is all about. also saturday. a bombshell engineering report surfacing on the condition of the building. the report from 2018 prepared rabbitoh consultants. >> found a concrete slab near the pool deck had major structural damage in concrete columns in the parking garage with abundant cracking and spalling rabbitohs structural engineering firm that does not do. construction says in part at the time of the building collapsed roof repairs were underway but concrete restoration had not yet begun miami dade county leaders say they were only made aware of the report this weekend. we are obviously very interested in all of the evidence -hat's coming to light and we're going to be including it in our. >> what happens after the rescue and in the meantime, we're taking actions to make sure that everybody's safe. >> that action includes a new audit of every building more than 40 years old in miami. dade county. but right now leaders emphasized the focus remains on the collapse site

enjoy family. enjoy. he looks smaller in person. i heard that. >> good morning, everybody. welcome back. 7.13 and the day starting out just like yesterday yeah. that fog along the coast chilly. i was my car this morning. it was miss and then cold. i'm wondering, dave spahr this fog. i know we usually see it on the coast. but are the parts that we have been dry and and needing a little bit of moisture. any of them getting a little court. hope no, not we're not we're not seeing much the way of moisture kind of worried about a different type of moisture later on during the week, although i don't think the impact will be great except scattered clouds for us keep temperatures down ever so slightly by thursday. >> and friday next week might even pump a little bit of humidity or way, which is pleasant going on those inland areas. but at least we'll get cloud cover and temperatures dropping a little bit. that's

the east bay shoreline to see popping up in the monitors here. this is a covered with the fog because we have cold current this right now or backyard, golden gate bridge checking out of there. we can see the towers with the fog clouds right aloft everything's pretty much the same as we talked about from yesterday, this excessive heat is around us because at least we're getting some of that on shore wind throughout the day. that's being locally driven. however, because of the different thermal gradients. we have the cooler air off towards the west and it starts to warm up in those inland valleys driving that happening is actually chilly and around some spots around the immediate. they yesterday with that breeze at hand. but the sun helps out upper 50's at hand for mostly and comes in at 6864 san jose 55. meanwhile, for san francisco noting this on future cast for. yeah. that mixes out. but notice a little bit of showers up in the mountains is going to be a flash years as the bad frame here. but the general trend you want to take from. this is later on tomorrow. there we do it again. more

mild lower 70's again. we'll check in your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit, martin. well, all right, dave, thanks a lot. back to the news this morning on wednesday, former president trump will be traveling to the u.s. mexico border. now this comes after vice president kamala harris visited the border city. >> of el paso just a few days ago. but trump's visit is expected to look very different our washington, dc correspondent anna wiernicki is in washington with more. >> donald trump's last trip as president was to south texas to take a look at the progress of his administration's border wall. and now this week he'll be returning to the border for the first time since leaving office. >> donald trump is returning to the southern border. this time as an ex-president signals to the rest of the country. he actually still cares. he's not the president is not the position of of government. trump will visit weslaco on wednesday. we'll be joined by texas governor greg abbott and a dozen house republicans including texas congressman august pfluger. he wants to go down there and

offer his expertise and his solutions to a governor who is actually trying to do the right thing is doing the right thing to secure communities. the triple look very different from vice president kamala harris's visit on friday where here is met with migrants at a processing center at the other end of the texas border in el paso. former president trump took credit for harris's trip saying in a statement, if governor abbott night, we're going there next week. she would have never gone college. trump's trip comes a little more than a week after governor abbott announced plans to use state funds to continue building the border wall that the trump administration started. it's a project texas democratic congressman lloyd doggett calls a waste of money. the idea governor abbott will return to trump's wall is a ridiculous. it will be only a token amount of it will be using state funds that could be better used to help texans on this side of the border.

>> the former president is expected to visit a texas department of public safety facility first and then go take a tour of part of a border barrier in washington. i'm anna wiernicki. back to you. >> president joe biden is clarifying some remarks about the bipartisan infrastructure deal saying he endorses the deal without hesitation. the president says he never meant to suggest he would veto it unless congress also passed a larger package to expand the social safety net just days ago. he said both packages needed to move in tandem or he would not sign the comment sparked criticism from republicans who were involved in the negotiations. >> in the south bay, the santa clara superior court has relaxed some of its covid restrictions for visitors. people have received any court order or permitted to enter the courthouse is without social distinct distancing restrictions. but face masks are still required and they say that anyone excuse me who does not wear a face mask will not be allowed inside.

>> good morning, everybody. welcome back to the kron 00:00am morning news. we're taking a live look outside at the picture window sfo out there. it is a little bit foggy, but it seems that plans are only having too big of an issue. there's one kind of rolling down the runway right now. i think we're ok there, dave. anything on delays are no, no, we're good. there. that's so no delays at sfo. but the fog is very apparent as we're seeing all the way around the bay too. >> nice a cooling effect it has. and we're getting all treated some drizzle here and there. but it's really doing much except during up our cars and run the windshield wipers. little bit. if you're fortunate enough, maybe some wet roads with all of that and get used to it. more to come. here is the east bay shoreline. we'll be monitoring these shots to see as the morning progresses, how the fog lifts off. there's sfo again, no delays, even though you see the fog bank really right up there against the hills and the fog today just mixes out by the we approach the noon hour and we'll still keep that cool onshore flow

>> yet. so no, marty, the department of rohnert park is taking a 0 tolerance approach when it comes to illegal fireworks. as you guys said they are turning to app to help them determine where the illegal fireworks are coming from and what happened in the event that they did go off and was he said the app is called it's a it's user friendly and pretty self explanatory. you can begin to follow report on the apps home page. the idea is to notify officials went fireworks. illegal fireworks go off or when someone tries to sell them nail allows you to upload pictures notes or audio recordings. it will then ask you for your name. e-mail and phone number as well as the location. the event is happening at that information is then forwarded to the corresponding police department. so they can investigate now is the 4th of july gets officials are warning people to be careful around dried grass. we know that the dry and hot dry and hot conditions mixed with

the san mateo county sheriff's office says it was a great white shark that bit this victim. >> the man had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the beach had to be closed off. will cove state beach becomes the scene of a rare shark attack. the san mateo county sheriff's office says the 35 year-old victim was swimming when a 6 to 8 foot great white shark bit him on the leg. >> so the shark bites are exceedingly rare. i can remember the last time we had one in our jurisdiction. lieutenant ayman allen says the man was able to swim to shore and ask someone at the beach to call 911. the shark bite victim was treated by firefighters and paramedics and then taken to stanford hospital. some pretty tough. he was able to walk up the beach with a shark bite to like california state parks rangers put up signs, warning people to not go to the beach or into the water. a foggy coastline and the possibility of a great white lingering in the ocean was enough to keep most people on the sand. you know, it's crazy because, you know, you always watch movies

and you hear about these kind of stories. but to actually be in an area where it actually. >> happened is kind of a little mind boggling. >> california state parks say the beach is going to be closed for at least the next couple of days. and they suggest that you do not go into the water reporting in gray whale, cove state park dan thorn kron 4 news. and in marin county, fairfax police warn people to stay home for a short time saturday because someone reported seeing a bear. >> in the area of the cascade drive in laurel drive, which is near cascade canyon preserve now as of this morning, the bear has not been captured. but officials say fish and game department has been notified. you may remember that a bear was spotted in neighboring san anselmo just last month. now, in the meantime, we have some tips on bear safety. according to the state department of fish and wildlife. you should secure fences around your home and gates as well. of course, do not leave your pets outside overnight remove their pet food from your yard and don't leave any trash groceries or

pet food in your car. >> in the east bay oakland police are looking for answers in the city's latest murder. officers say the victim was shot around 11 o'clock last night on bancroft avenue. the victim who has not yet been identified died at the scene. the murder comes just a day after city leaders voted to slash 18 million dollars from the oakland police budget over the next 2 years. >> so our budget make sure that the investigations division of opd is going to fully staffed. we'll have no cuts back. we're going to increase is to investigations, especially for serious and violent crimes. we're going to protect our cease-fire program which has been shown to help reduce. serious violent shootings. >> the murder is oakland 63rd homicide of the year. scary moments for alameda county deputies after they came under fire while responding to a domestic violence call last night and san lorenzo investigators say it happened at an apartment complex on

ashland avenue. deputies say when they made contact with the suspect rocky on solara. he slammed the door on them reopen to the door and then fired a gun at the deputies deputies returned fire suspect then jumped from a balcony and hid in nearby bushes. but later surrendered deputy say no one was injured and the incident was captured on body cameras. >> well, we have a warning for you. if you're hitting the road this weekend. the chp has more officers on the road looking for speeders and that doesn't stop at the state's border. the speed enforcement campaign actually involves 11 other state highway patrol's arizona all the way up north to washington state last year. more than 500 people were killed, more than 57,000 others injured by crashes caused by unsafe speeds. >> well, we're continuing to celebrate mardi gonzales on his last here. i feel like i feel like this time next week. marty, you're going to be sleeping.

worthwhile as well. you know, they incorporate lot of brain work as well as it is physical activity. at the same time. >> and it is so important to practice good posture. whether you're sitting or up walking around as well. right. >> and you know, that's one of sticklers. yeah. and you really get party. so i'm not really worried about you. okay, if you don't have good over the long term. you could end up with a lot of orthopedic pain and at and if you're not going to be able to be very functional in the long run. so important to pay attention to how well you stand and sit. i love your next tip. get out of the and it couldn't be more appropriate can of it. that's right. >> and you know, when you retire, it's national that a lot of your social connections

or are know, they're they're not as you don't have those social connections. they need it right or right. no, really important to pay attention to. >> putting some effort into making some personal connections. so get out of the house whether it's too socialize go out to lunch with friends. do some exercise with friends but be out and about and not be up at home. yeah, and i think that that certainly holds true, especially now because so many people are cooped up at home. >> you want to get out, you need to get out. it's good. it's good for your health as well. right. stay on top of your health visit with your doctor regularly. don't put things off. >> right, right. make sure you stay on top of those yeah. a lot of people say when they get retire, they're busier than yeah. so make sure you keep the calendar in, make sure you stay on top of all those vaccinations appointments. yeah. and good health. of course, is good

off a little bit. so we'll have some better pictures as the morning starts to progress that we have the upper 50's cover. most of the breath of the bay got some 60's going on for antioch and also conquered at this hour, numbers are pretty close to where they were from yesterday within a couple of degrees. so we're repeating the performance again. 78 by high noon at 3 will to 85. we'll see some 90's out there and a minor little warm spell will call it as we see the temperatures climb near 100 or maybe mid 90's going on to those inland spots by tuesday and then backtracking for the remainder of the week. a closer look at that forecast coming up in a bit. marty, in the well. all right, dave, thanks a lot. let's get to the news this morning. our big story this sunday, the 4th of july is exactly one week from today. >> officials are cracking down on illegal fireworks. but this time they're using an app to help the kron four's camila barco is live in rohnert park with more on the ap camila. >> tell us what you know about it. >> so its user friendly. i was just able to download it and

go through it and it's an easy process. the idea of this app is to help officials better determine where the illegal fireworks are coming from and what happened in the event that they do go off. so here's a rundown of how this all works out. going to walk you through it. you're going to click on file report on the apps home page. once this happens, there's a lift us once you click on it. there's a list of things to fill out. you're going to click on issued a report and this is will you will determine if someone is using or selling fireworks illegally. now, if you have pictures, you'll also be able to send those in. but if you don't want to you, there's an option for general notes. this is the portion where you can detail what you have seen and officials ask that you be as accurate as possible to help them out. but if you don't want to send in general notes or pictures. you have the option to send an audio recordings. you can send an audio recording of yourself o ur of the fireworks going off. then you'll be need.

new approach to dealing with 911. calls that involved mentally disturbed people. >> who are living on the streets. it's a plan that does not involve law enforcement kron four's, maureen kelly. >> taking a deep look at the program. >> the sox are we have flip-flops a community paramedic with the street crisis response team is making sure her rig has packed up with supplies as they respond to their first call of the we're going through far more narcan than we ever have simply because fentenyl. requires that we give more nar can for overdose. she's joined by a mental health clinician and a peer counselor who's had firsthand experience with what it's like to live on the streets. >> experience homelessness i've involved in the criminal justice system of the cover addict. check a lot of bucks. it's they're responding to 911. calls involving nonviolent mentally disturbed people. the pilot program is a collaboration between the city's fire and public health

departments. it was launched by mayor london breed soon after the national outrage of the murder of george floyd in an effort to rethink public safety. each street crisis response team cost one 0.7 million dollars annually. >> there are now 5 spread across the 16 will be added to work overnight to help provide coverage. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the end of july or goal is for the 6 teams to be able to divert the roughly 10,000 calls that we expect. >> that are coded as a mentally disturbed person away trom a police department response to this team being able to respond. it might urgent psychiatric care but not emergency care which lessens the load on the hospital. >> it could be sheltered. it could be primary care appointments could be food in. it could be water and blankets. >> whatever it is to meet their need. at that moment. we will do it. the team also checks in with those they see on the street who look like they could be in crisis. they approach this man because he's wearing a coat much too warm for the weather. this team is trained in dealing with people in crisis who may have previously had negative

encounters. >> with those in uniform. a lot of the tools that we utilize in the moment, maybe crisis de escalation really allowing them to feel heard. billy allowing them to feel validated. >> trying to understand kind of the underlying what's going on for them in the moment. oftentimes when people are in psychiatric distress. there could be that could be very basic needs that are not being it in that particular moment. that's leading to the sec after crisis. sometimes it's as simple as getting someone water. this man was given water and socks and left where he was the most recent city data shows that of the approximately 1500 calls. they've responded to so far 59% of the clients have had their crisis averted safely. >> and remained where they were found. the goal is for the city's office of coordinated care to circle back and try to connect them with services. 17% up and taken to the hospital. another 17% have been linked to things such as shelters, detox or sobering centers. 7% have been placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold for up to 72 hours. otherwise known as the

mendocino. but i had no idea where to begin. so i'm really glad you're here this morning. saying you know, it's summer. summer is prime season for road trips in california and we're so lucky in the bay area because we have so many options today. let's focus on mendocino and give you some ideas. first off, let's get going to the anderson laursen san francisco. it's known for wine. i want you to take time. see the redwoods. this is hendy woods, state park. how about 5 miles of the easy to moderate trails, but they're lined with trees that in some cases more than 300 feet tall than a 1000 years to was just just a beautiful essentially divided into 2 rows. there's the 80 acre, big handy which tends to be the most popular. that's what you're seeing. >> and then the smaller 20 acre little hand. the area.

know right now about the mendocino coast. botanical gardens is they're operating on a timed entry system. it's very simple. get online reserve your tickets. i online. i got online last night to check to check. and there are still tickets available for today. so it's not something you do plan out weeks in advance. it's a very simple process. and again, dana, you talk about being secluded there. i don't see any one individual that you're shooting. you've got the whole. >> garden to yourself. >> you know, there. sometimes you get really lucky yeah, out doubt. but it seems in mendocino. you get lucky more often than you and that's just a fantastic thing to look forward to another favorite spot. and this is a place that even i found even if you've never been people have heard of this mean, it's been chugging through mendocino county since the late 1800's it runs on some of the first tracks ever put into place by the california western railroad. so the history here is incredible.

sunny mode before noon for most locations. all that fog has kept the temperatures down. yes, we've got the 50 still hanging around. as you can see around the perimeter of the bay antioch, though, at 75 63 for concord in little more 62. you know, technically maybe those numbers to drop as much. but of course, we're seeing a lot better son. one on the east bay even up to the north bay to a 57% of 61 for a bottle. so in what's going on here. it's a hurricane looks like it not become a category 2 and said backtracking to a tropical storm and then a tropical depression. by the time it hits southern baja. the problem being. that's going to be locally severe weather in and around that area for travelers throughout the end of this week. so that's problematic. there. the good thing is this is not going to tap into this kind of moisture up to that can sometimes produce those high level thunder showers, which is not good news. in the meantime, we'll see temperatures climb a little bit until we get some scattered clouds in here by the latter portion of the week. the flare up somewhat typical in the mountains and also tapping into some of that
