barbecues backyard cookouts are synonymous with burgers hot dogs potato chips. all those other heart unfriendly fresh foods are expert. karen, a lot is here with some simple do's and don'ts that's going help you survive this holiday cookouts. karen, your first tip here. if you're vaccinated, if you're invited, go to the party. yes, don't uptown and a lot of people. >> are, you know, they're anxious to get out, but they're afraid to go to the barbecues because they're afraid to over eat. so there's no need for that. we have some strategies for that. enjoy the company of your friends and we haven't seen for a long time. and and just take that into consideration and and just have a good time. >> well, like you said, you you do have some tips on how we can make sure we have a good time and and not worry about over don't arrive starving. you say. >> be sure to eat before you
9:48 am
go. sometimes that's a strategy for people that in actually intend to over eat. so they purposely started themselves. you know, avoid eating. so that they could compensate. because they know they're going to be eating extra calories at the party. so they're in a in a sense, they're actually planning to overeat. so in order to counter that. you want to plan on eating beforehand. so make sure you are have a full before you go eating something with protein and some. some fiber is going to fill you up and it's going to keep you satisfied longer. so you're not going to get arrive at the party just ready to dive into everything in sight. i see like hama scare. yogurt and fruit. those are some good options. >> yeah. and a banana or apple with some not better. that's going to hold you throughout the party save you up for the
9:49 am
big meal. that 3rd one. the don't wear expandable pants. i'm a big fan of my stretchy pants i know we but that's kind of also when you you, you dress with the stretchy pants maybe the the sweats. that's also a way to in 10 and planned to over eat. so when you go to a party, go to the barbecue where some tight fitting clothing maybe your genes ad and instead of the lycra. and and we're belt instead of the the elastic waistband and that will kind of remind you that, yes, i full and over stuff yourself, ok, i'll trial if you're being a guest, it's obviously good to bring something. and if you're going to bring something, it should be a healthy something. yeah. did you want to make sure that there's something for unity. i
9:50 am
always prepare one or 2 dishes. what i go because i just to make sure that i do have something to eat and i actually a lot of people appreciate that there is something healthy at the buffet, something green right at obviously there's usually veggie trays and sometimes we we try to avoid those of and go straight for the chips. but don't avoid yeah. so the grain foods think of the leafy greens and actually like a little these little cucumbers. i don't know if you seen these with, these are did serve party. the green foods tend to be very low in calories their water rich and they're full of fiber. so that be another good thing to have at a barbecue and it's probably good for those hosting the barbecues to have some veggie options for folks. of the veggie burgers i recommend the the bean burgers versus some of those fake meats that we talked about a few weeks face a full fiber
9:51 am
again, int oxidant. so it would be something to offer are you are a sometimes people you know, they don't want to eat the been so go. but unless especially if they're the white flour. i recommend, you know, he take your burger and then put it this break it up and put it over a green salad instead of having the been okay. and you also don't forget the watermelon. we had big picnics and family gatherings. we're all packing up, ready to go home. and someone always mentions. the yeah. there's so many pies and cookies. so but they have these these little. >> this small watermelons their grades. they're perfect for 4 to 6 people and why did million can be grilled, too. so if you that you haven't
9:52 am
tried that. i so the fruits make a great dessert. this is kind of a patriotic desert with the red lights of blues. and that's always nice to so really nice to have kind of scattered around the buffet table, which you do suggest serving that buffet table before you go ahead and make your plate. >> yeah. make sure you kind of look around, see what's out there before you get in line because you want able to plan how your plates get turned out and what you can have on your place. karen, thanks so much. because of you are going to have a really fun but also a healthy year 4th of july holiday. thanks so much. all right. we'll see you if there were a button that would help you use less energy, breathe cleaner air, and even take on climate change...
