in and also to some of the afternoon winds might to help you folks around the delta little bit as well. right now we start things off with what does it look like. east bay shoreline all lit up already. as you can see, the fog is pretty much lifted from this perspective. then the golden gate bridge. it's usually the last along the bunch in order to get clear about some morning drizzle with all of this. and again, that some nice relief and that will be insulating to some degree even this afternoon. san francisco the coast in a little bit along the east bay shoreline which the map reflects here excessive heat warning going on. that's the areas in red. you see the oranges or advisory and that does include the santa clara valley. sometimes you folks are not involved in these. but you're in this one and also to the santa cruz mountains, excessive heat warning. that is that will be until 11:00pm on sundays for the day to get through all of this as well. so with the overnight recovery, if you will. we've got the 50's going on for much of the perimeter of the bay. you can see the greens making their way across the delta so that marine layer pushed its way on east a little bit spilled into the sacramento valley. it looks like a touch.

and for comparison. sake were a few degrees behind this time from yesterday. but we'll make up for this afternoon. who there we go, 91 by 11, 2, one. '03, very common to see the triple digits east to the east bay hills off the contra. costa county solano county as well. we'll have more details in your forecast in just a bit. noel. thanks, dave. that triple digit heat across the bay area has led to cal iso extending its power alert through the weekend. >> with temperatures expected in the triple digits again today californians are being asked to conserve energy kron four's, camila barco joins us live from contra, costa county this morning with more details. corning camila. >> good morning, noel. so yeah, we know it's going to be today. and those hot temperatures are going to want to keep people inside to stay cool. but that also means people are going to see and that's exactly what officials are asking you to not do as it could have a negative effect.

>> on the state's power grid. instead, officials are asking you to do your part and conserve power to keep the state's power grid stable. if too many people use electricity, it strains the power grid. and as a result, could cause power outages or rolling blackouts. now the california independent system operators is using multiple tools to help keep the grid stable. last week. they put out a solicitation for generators on the west coast to obtain additional resources. cal iso is also working with businesses to reduce their electricity consumption, consumption at critical times. power alert, also known as a flex alert is in effect for the sec will be in effect for the second day in a row, today's power alert will be in effect between 4 in the afternoon and 09:00pm this means people must conserve energy during these times and these are some of the best ways to save power. set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, try not to use major appliances use fans instead of a c to cool down unplug on

use, electrical items and turn off any unnecessary lights out. call. cal iso said people listen to the warnings and conserve energy. yesterday. it helped keep the power grid. stable and they're looking for to people doing the same thing today. noel, back to you. >> camila. is it already pretty warm out there. >> i will say actually, it's the perfect temperature to, you know, do your errands and take a walk. so right now it's the it's the warm up before it gets too okay. if people are awake right now, you might want to head to the store now catch those cooler temperatures before it gets warmer. check in with you again. >> in the next hour. see how much it heats up there. we're going to continue to track the heat wave on our kron. 4 app uses qr code to download the app and get the latest weather updates there. >> that includes a look at the 7 day forecast, the current conditions and a list of some cooling centers that are opening up around the bay area.

>> that not only are we being asked to conserve power. but we're also dealing with the drought. governor gavin newsome asking all of us to reduce our water consumption by 15% as well. kron four's phillipe djegal has more on ways to conserve your water. >> on average. the east bay municipal utility district says single-family customers use about 250 gallons of water per day. that number can vary based on where you live and the size of your lot. but if you consume 250 gallons of water on a daily basis. a 15% reduction amounts to 37 and a half gallons of water are asking folks to be efficient and watering their landscaping. >> to find and repair leaks and to be mindful of their indoor water. use a good place to start is the toilet older models can use up to 5 gallons per flush newer high efficiency toilets use about 1.2 gallons per flush. >> by installing a high efficiency toilet. the state

says a household can save 19 gallons per person each day. if there are multiple people in your home. you can achieve the 15% goal by upgrading the toilet alone keeping showers under 5 minutes can also save 12 and a half gallons for a shower when using water efficient shower heads. we all shaved one minute off our showers every day. collectively, we saved 2 million gallons a day of water. so there's little choice is that we all make every day. those really do add up when we're working together as a community, avoid washing dishes by hand. if you have a dishwasher, you can also save around 4 gallons of water per day. if you wash only loads. >> as for laundry east bay, muds, water conservation manager alice to he says by properly using load size settings reducing the number of loads by using full loads. only and replacing the standard washer with a high efficiency model, you can save up to 25 gallons of water per day. as for the outdoors, she

does not recommend letting your lawn guy just limit the frequency. it gets water to 3 times per week. if you have folks that are, you know, watering their lawn every day. and, you know, potentially using like a 100 or more gallons a day to water their lawn. >> just reducing the number of days that you water can have a big impact on your water. lastly, check for leaks around the house. this could potentially save hundreds of gallons of water per day. >> believe that all kron 4 news. >> coming up here on the kron 4 morning news growing concerns over the rise in covid cases as one bay area county sees its deadliest week and the last 4 months. plus growing confusion over whether vaccinated people will soon need to get a booster shot. we have more on what the cdc

can be seen breaking into jeffrey's diamonds and goldsmiths. an alarm went off when they came inside, but it did not stop those burglars. they stole up to $250,000 worth of jewelry store owner says this is the 4th time the campbell location has been hit by burglars in the last 5 years. pushing high temperatures today into the triple digits for a lot of those inland valleys. i even as we approach around noon, plenty of 90's to be had as well. it's going to be hot again for tomorrow. but today is the really big day. you want to watch, particularly in the mid afternoon going. take a look at that. roasting forecast is next.

>> 7.14 here on this saturday morning. and the golden gate ferry is resuming regular weekend services between san francisco and the north bay today service to and from san francisco, larkspur and sausalito will resume with several trips throughout the day on saturdays and sundays golden gate ferry suspended its weekend service during the pandemic due to a decrease in demand. but officials say demand has increased ever since the state reopened on june 15th just like on all public transit masks are still required for ferry passengers. i have a feeling that with all of these warm temperatures. we're seeing this weekend. a lot of people are going to want to get on the ferry. it's

time for another check of our forecast. dave it's going to get into the triple digits in some spots. yeah. it is a fair doesn't sound bad either. maybe telling the say, hey, let's take a stop at alcatraz island just hang out there in place you can hide from the heat today or just along the coastline. good and everybody. >> this is a live look, we have the east bay shoreline. it's already been opened up to the sunshine at we shake off that morning. well fog and even some coastal drizzle going on to. we're going to repeat that again for tomorrow. but all that tells you is, hey, that marine layer was back again to say don't count me out just yet. we do have bit of an onshore flow that will be part of the program today to walk to the winds in just a bit. golden gate bridge kind of blocked by a lot of this fog as well to see the last stop along the journey. so we're still on tap for everything we've been talking about here, temperature check right now. we've got 50's around the perimeter of the bay. you go inland and other in the 6075 antioch not wasting any time 50's up to the north bay and 6 to san jose. a yeah. quite

warm already. but at least we had a little relief from that marine layer coming in overnight. so a check with the future cast here. and it's seeing this afternoon. we'll still see the flare up of some scattered showers, even thunder showers up in the sierra little bit today, tomorrow morning. here comes back that marine layer coastal drizzle in all that mixes out typical. and still the flaring up of some afternoon thunder showers sometimes with one of these highs which we kind of have in our neighborhood here that sometimes can shut off a little bit of that afternoon thunder shower activity depending up. it's situated just right. but it's not this go around. so we are lay able to sneak in some of those afternoon thunder showers. ok, surface winds. it's typical to get those onshore winds in the afternoon. but they are muted today we go all the way up to 45. and we're not seeing relatively as much action or as much as we'll see tomorrow. but then late in the afternoon, early evening, boom. the winds are kick in a little bit. not a whole lot here, but they'll get a little bit of a breeze going. so if you're located in the right spot that you tend to get those afternoon evening. a

breezy conditions off in the east bay here come some of that relief tomorrow afternoon. you can see it starts a little bit earlier and it's a little bit more aggressive. hinting that the heat wave is starting to crack and break a little bit. so we'll get some wind relief, at least coming in the right direction and the late afternoon and the evening hours. so heat advisory warning. you've heard a lot about it except the east bay shoreline san francisco. and obviously the coast, then tomorrow we're still hot with some minor relief. we're going to shave off maybe half a dozen degrees or so. and then for next week. we're talking of cooler temperatures and we mean in a big way. you're going to see a big difference here. they temperatures 70's and 80's going on here. inland era, rather 80's even inland. so it's going to be a nice little relief here. so for today, 73 san francisco 83 going on for oakland. 94 san jose. some earlier forecasts had san francisco a little higher in some of the charts going on here. they've shaved that down a little bit because of that. aggressive marine layer. way to go marine layer

'08, for antioch. unconquered still very toasty. one of 6 up to livermore. to santa rosa again around the bay. again, not not in that when a heat advisory, we've got a lot of 80's lined up there in my papa 90 here and there. course, we'll have the 4 zone forecast coming up for you. that and also check that extended noel. i somehow think safe. >> health leaders in sonoma county are expressing some concern over rising covid-19 cases. the county reported 5 new virus-related deaths on friday, making it the deadliest week since early march. dozens of people at a homeless shelter in santa rosa have also tested positive for the new delta variant kron four's. dan thorn has the latest. >> despite making good progress on their vaccination campaign. sonoma county continues to be threatened by covid-19 county leaders say there's been a recent increase in cases and hospitalizations and there remains a significant risk to people who have not been vaccinated. >> what's important to

emphasize nearly all of our recent covid cases, hospitalizations and deaths. well, i'm vaccinated individual. >> county public health officer doctor son darren mays briefed residents about 5 new covid-19 deaths on friday. 4 of the 5 were unvaccinated. but one was fully vaccinated. doctor may says the man was over the age of 90 and had preexisting conditions putting him already at great risk what's becoming increasingly concerning is seeing new cases and positivity rates doubling in the county hospitalizations have also grown to worrisome numbers. >> the currently up 44 individual not full of covid, including 13 in the icu. the high number of patients. the february as of friday. 25 1% of sonoma county's population have not received a single dose. the recent surge may encourage the unvaccinated to get a shot. the numbers trending in the wrong direction. >> we know the pandemic it will take. not people getting

vaccinated to herd immunity of said all along the course of the pandemic. >> reporting in san francisco, dan thorn kron 4 news. >> well, dozens upon dozens of aftershocks have been recorded following yesterday's magnitude 6 earthquake in the ley, which is near the california-nevada border. now despite shaking being felt all the way over here in the bay area. there were no messages from the usgs shake alert early warning system that system is designed to alert people seconds before the shaking. so they can potentially take cover. the usgs says we didn't get anything, though, because the system is still a work in progress. and it did not sense the earthquakes properly. >> sensors. we're not sufficient and dance to properly. ok and determine the magnitude of the earthquake. had this system, correct characterize the magnitude 6 earthquake and put it in the right location would have

that's providing ever so minor relief. but it's going to be roasting just about everywhere going on today, but the beach is about the one place. >> you can avoid some of this going on here. right now we're taking care of the fog. we've done a very nice job of that from the shot from u c berkeley. there's the east bay shoreline all lit up above quite a bit of the way and some fog. the second nature show here. the atmosphere is comprised one 5th item talks engine and this will mix out for us pretty quickly. here is the excessive heat business we've been talking about. here's a look at the map. the reds indicate excessive heat warning. this is until 11 o'clock on sunday. the oranges are for heat advisory census goes not in the east bay but the santa cruz mountains you're also looking at that excessive heat warning too. and again, this will be with us until 11 o'clock tomorrow. the current winds or other kind of a hodgepodge a little bit. but there is a bit around the delta that's providing some minor relief, but it will be plenty hot around solano county and the contra costa county as well currently now

the future. as we've already noted over the last 16 months of this epidemic is really hard and so continuing to be active in taking proactively about how to prevent this going forward is really important. >> pfizer says they're also developing a new version of the vaccine to target the delta strain specifically they expect to launch clinical trials for that next month. a big story we're following this morning. pediatricians are encouraging parents to consider getting their children who are eligible vaccinated against covid-19 right now. that way they'll have full protection from the virus by the time the school year starts in the fall. many school districts are making plans for a return to in-person learning and infectious disease. experts say the science shows it is safe as long as there are proper safety protocols in place. >> vaccinating 12 to 29 year olds will 70,000 infections over 4500 hospitalizations and

a 30 to 40 every year in that age group. >> pfizer is the only vaccine right now that's approved for use in children. ages 12 through 18. the company has applied for emergency use in children under the age of 12. but the fda is not expected to review that application until the fall. now, according to new cdc guidelines released friday students who are vaccinated will not have to wear masks in school this fall. however, they will be required here in california. kron four's, maureen kelly explains why. >> while many vaccinated students and teachers around the country will likely be heading inside their classrooms with their faces bear. those here in all california. k through 12 schools will have to keep covered up for now even if they've gotten their shots. that's because the cdc also said today that masks should stay up inside if schools cannot maintain a distance of at least 3 feet between desks

and the state's public health department says they are not recommending physical distancing because of the hurdles that would present to california schools fully reopening the county superintendent of schools for contra. costa is on board with the state's decision. i really do think it really highlights the importance of in-person learning. i think in person learning. >> is the best models benefits young people the most. and so this really allows for everybody to come back fully into the classroom. the principal of hercules middle school says the state's decision to keep up with the mask-wearing inside schools makes things a little more simple. specially has only kids 12 and up are eligible for their shots. everybody is wearing a mask. it's easy to see who's not. and you have to worry about i know that for a lot of us were ready to have the masks off whenever and wherever possible. >> so sure that will cause some challenges to. but again, it's just an opportunity to get students back and make sure we get back to doing our

heat warning to also up in the north bay got a lot of real estate covered by the excessive heat advisory temperatures again will be jumping up beyond 100 degrees and this will be with us through sunday afternoon although sunday will be not as bad as today. 75 for got a lot of 60's. you can see in the interior areas of the east bay also up in some of those crevices up in the north bay as well. but for comparison sake raksha little cooler this morning. then yesterday fairfield trailing almost a dozen degrees there and don't worry, we'll make up for lost time this afternoon's 96 by high noon anland. one. again today californians are being asked to conserve energy kron four's camila barco is live in contra, costa county this morning with more details camila. >> yes. and while it's going to be sizzling today and those hot temperatures are going to want to keep people indoors to stay cool. but that also means people are going to blast the ac and that's what officials are asking people not to do as it could have a negative effect on the state's power grid. instead, officials want people to conserve their power. and this way it keeps the state's power grid stable. if too many people use electricity, it stains strains the power grid. and as a result could cause power outages or rolling blackouts. now the california independent system operator is using multiple tools to help keep the great stable. last week they put out a solicitation for generators on the west coast to obtain additional resources. well, i i i so is also working with businesses to reduce their electricity

cooling centers open around the bay area. >> well, not only are we being asked to conserve power. but we're also dealing with a drought right now. governor gavin newsom is asking all of us to reduce our water consumption as well. >> by 15%. kron four's phillipe djegal has more on ways to conserve your water. use. >> on average. the east bay municipal utility district says single-family customers use about 250 gallons of water per day. that number can vary based on where you live and the size of your lot. but if you can soon 250 gallons of water on a daily basis. a 15% reduction amounts to 37 and a half gallons of water are asking folks to be efficient and watering their landscaping. >> to find and repair leaks and to be mindful of their indoor water. use a good place to start is the toilet older models can use up to 5 gallons per flush newer high efficiency toilets use about

1.2 gallons per flush. >> by installing a high efficiency toilet. the state says a household can save 19 gallons per person each day. if there are multiple people in your home. you can achieve the 15% goal by upgrading the toilet alone keeping showers under 5 minutes can also save 12 and a half gallons for a shower when using water efficient shower heads. we all shaved one minute off our showers every day. collectively, we saved 2 million gallons a day of water. so there's little choices that we all make every day. those really do add up when we're working together as a community avoid washing dishes by hand. if you have a dishwasher, you can also save around 4 gallons of water per day. if you wash only loads. >> as for laundry east bay, muds, water conservation manager alice to he says by properly using load size settings reducing the number of loads by using full loads. only and replacing the standard washer with a high

efficiency model, you can save up to 25 gallons of water per day. as for the outdoors, she does not recommend letting your lawn guy just limit the frequency. it gets water to 3 times per week. if you have folks that are, you know, watering their lawn every day. and, you know, potentially using like a 100 or more gallons a day to water their lawn. >> just reducing the number of days that you water can have a big impact on your water. lastly, check for leaks around the house. this could potentially save hundreds of gallons of water per day. >> believe that all kron 4 news. >> another big story we are following out of the south bay. a child has died after being hit by a car in san jose. it happened yesterday evening in the area of camden avenue and kuz or road. police say the child was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and unfortunately did not survive. this is some video of the scene. police say the driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators. a spokesperson

this high and we're going break up this heat spell. but it's with us all weekend long. looking for relief wherever we can sometimes look at some of those winds this afternoon in. unit attempt, obviously with an event like this, we don't get a lot of those surface winds but 3.45 it starts to break. now. this is when we got those lofty one o 5, one. '06, 7, 8 going on in the far east bay up in the north bay. then the sun gets a little lower in the sky. you get some minor relief that we should get a breeze going on tomorrow afternoon evening little stronger, little better coverage. temperatures won't be as high. you'll notice a slight deviation from all of that. all the statements in place. but still a little minor relief going on. so we've got a heat advisory warning all weekend long. but for today except for the east bay shoreline and san francisco still hot tomorrow minor relief. as i mentioned earlier, got those winds kicking in there taken off, maybe 6 or degrees for next week. cooler week they temperatures 70's inland highs in the 80's big change

'08, antioch to concord still going to be plenty hot there. to santa rosa. a lot of 100 numbers to be found in the north bay today, too. fremont 88 micah close to 90 today. 94. meanwhile for san jose going to 4 zone forecast coming up for you in just a bit. well. >> thanks, dave. health leaders in sonoma county are expressing concern over rising covid-19 cases. the county reported 5 new virus-related deaths on friday, making it the deadliest week since early march. dozens of people at a homeless shelter in santa rosa have also tested positive for the new delta variant kron four's. dan thorn has the very latest. >> despite making good progress on their vaccination campaign. sonoma county continues to be threatened by covid-19 county leaders say there's been a recent increase

in cases and hospitalizations and there remains a significant risk to people who have not been vaccinated. >> what's important and the site nearly all of our recent covid cases, hospitalizations and deaths. well, i'm vaccinated individual. >> county public health officer doctor son darren mays briefed residents about 5 new covid-19 deaths on friday. 4 of the 5 were unvaccinated. but one was fully vaccinated. doctor may says the man was over the age of 90 and had preexisting conditions putting him already at great risk. what's becoming increasingly concerning is seeing new cases and positivity rates doubling in the county hospitalizations have also grown to worrisome numbers. >> currently up 44 individual, not covid including 13 in icu. the high number of icu patients. the february as of friday. 25 1% of sonoma county's population have not received a single dose. the recent surge may encourage the

unvaccinated to get a shot. the numbers trending in the wrong direction. >> we know the pandemic it will take. not people getting vaccinated to herd immunity. as we said all along the course of the pandemic. >> reporting in san francisco. dan thorn kron 4 news. >> well, dozens upon dozens of aftershocks have been recorded following thursday's magnitude. 6 earthquake in the antelope valley. it hit near the california-nevada border. now despite shaking being felt all the way over here in the bay area. there were no messages from the usgs shake alert early warning system. that system is designed to alert people seconds before the shaking. so they can potentially take cover. the usgs says we didn't get any alert because the system is still a work in progress and it did not sense the earthquakes properly. >> sensors. we're not sufficient and dance to

the coast. and we're seeing that even in portions along the. >> east bay shoreline, although much of the bay start to mix out of the golden gate bridge. and at the beaches. that's what's kind of overcast as we see it half moon bay. of course, that won't be the case all day today. meanwhile, sutro camera. take a look at this, right above the fog dec. it's in the 80's. it was that way all overnight. you get below the fog deck. that's a marine layer is and it snuck in there because colder air is more dense and it's down even though more moist air is actually typically less dense. but when it's cold, you can see it settles at the bottom like this. so we had a little relief this morning after you have the daytime heating. here we go. excessive heat warning where you see the reds and the oranges or a heat advisory notice it doesn't cover san francisco east bay shoreline or near water. but santa cruz mountains. you have that excessive heat warning santa clara valley got the heat advisory that's for today and tomorrow until 11 o'clock on sunday. there are the current winds, not a whole lot, but at least overnight, the delta got

some winds with that marine layer we just showed you the kind of sneak on through. so that helped efforts a little bit. these after the afternoon, breezy conditions. they're not going to be really strong, but they wish the check in around 3 or 4 o'clock this afternoon 79 right now in antioch. already seeing some reds encroaching in here. look at that. we'll be seeing these numbers pop very shortly, lower 60's. meanwhile, along the east bay shoreline breaking it down for you. 96 by noon 3 o'clock. one. asking you not to do that because it could have a negative effect on the state's power grid. instead they're asking you to do your part and cut back on your energy use between 04:00pm today and between 04:09pm, today. the power alert also known as a flex alert will be in effect for a second day in a row and you can save energy by doing the simple steps like turning your thermostat up to at least 78 degrees. do not use major appliances use fans instead of a c. >> unplug electrical items are not using and turn off unnecessary lights. if you do the steps it will ease the strain on the grid during the evening when there is less solar energy available. it also reduces the chances of power outages or rolling blackouts. the california independent system operator is using multiple tools to help keep the grade stable. last week. they asked for generators on the west coast to obtain additional resources

consumption by 15% as well. kron four's phillipe djegal has more on different ways to conserve water. >> on average. the east bay municipal utility district says single-family customers use about 250 gallons of water per day. >> that number can vary based on where you live and the size of your lot. >> but if you consume 250 gallons of water on a daily basis. a 15% reduction amounts to 37 and a half gallons of water are asking folks to be efficient and watering their landscaping. >> to find and repair leaks and to be mindful of their indoor water. use a good place to start is the toilet older models can use up to 5 gallons per flush newer high efficiency toilets use about 1.2 gallons per flush. >> by installing a high efficiency toilet. the state says a household can save 19 gallons per person each day. if there are multiple people in your home. you can achieve the 15% goal by upgrading the

toilet alone keeping showers under 5 minutes can also save 12 and a half gallons per shower when using water efficient showerhead sick. we all one minute off our showers every day. collectively, we say 2 million gallons a day of water. so there's little choices that we all make every day. those really do add up when we're working together as a community avoid washing dishes by hand. if you have a dishwasher, you can also save around 4 gallons of water per day. if you wash only loads. >> as for laundry east bay, muds, water conservation manager alice to he says by properly using load size settings reducing the number of loads by using full loads. only and replacing the standard washer with a high efficiency model, you can save up to 25 gallons of water per day. as for the outdoors, she does not recommend letting your lawn guy just limit the frequency. it gets water to 3 times per week. if you have folks that are, you know,

watering their lawn every day. and, you know, potentially using like a 100 or more gallons a day to water their lawn. >> just reducing the number of days that you water can have a big impact on your water. lastly, check for leaks around the house. this could potentially save hundreds of gallons of water per day. >> believed it all kron 4 news. >> another big story we're following out of the south bay. a child has died after being hit by a car in san jose. it happened yesterday evening in the area of camden avenue in coos or road. police say the child was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. and unfortunately he did not survive the system video of the scene. police say the driver stayed there and is cooperating with investigators a spokesperson tells us it does not appear the driver was under the influence. also in the south bay. take a look at this. a jewelry store in campbell was burglarized early friday morning and it was all caught on camera. the thieves can be seen breaking into jeffrey's diamonds and

air really didn't go anywhere from overnight in the 80's above it but below it that marine layer checked in so the excessive heat warning where you see the red said the advisory is for the santa clara valley. you're in this one and us up in the north bay too. but it is not along the east bay shoreline or san francisco or the coastal areas, which is somewhat a little typical to. but again, you get an inland and you're going to feel what current winds. we did a little breeze going on around the delta will get some later on today. that will help a little bit, but that will be late afternoon evening when the sun is a little lower anyway. already popping 83 off to antioch. 71 conquered 72 for livermore with the east bay shoreline in the lower 60's. for now, though freeman has 67 lot of 60's up there. the north bay. we 99 by 1 o'clock at 4, one. pfizer's authorization request for a 3rd shot of its covid-19 vaccine pfizer plans to seek authorization for a booster dose in august saying it would provide better protection against the delta variant in a joint statement, though, both the fda and the cdc to americans do not need boosters just yet. adding it is not up to companies alone to decide when they might be needed. >> this is science and motion and there's always going to be debate about the best way to proceed and trying to predict the future. as we've already noted over the last 16 months of this epidemic is really hard and so continuing to be active in thinking proactively about how to prevent this going forward is really important. >> pfizer says they're also developing a new version of the vaccine to target the delta strain specifically they expect to launch clinical trials next month. a big story we're following this morning with more bay area's students headed back to the classrooms in the fall medical experts

that's because the cdc also said today that masks should stay up inside if schools cannot maintain a distance of at least 3 feet between desks and the state's public health department says they are not recommending physical distancing because of the hurdles that would present to california schools fully reopening the county superintendent of schools for contra. costa is on board with the state's decision. i really do think it really highlights the importance of in-person learning. i think in person learning. >> is the best models benefits young people the most. and so this really allows for everybody to come back fully into the classroom. the principal of hercules middle school says the state's decision to keep up with the mask-wearing inside schools. >> makes things a little more simple, especially as only kids 12 and up are eligible for their shots. everybody is wearing a mask. it's easy to see who's not. and you have to worry about i know that for a lot of us were ready to have the masks off whenever and

wherever possible. >> so sure that will cause some challenges to. but again, it's just an opportunity to get students back. >> and make sure we get back to doing our our main purpose which is educating students. the parents. i talked to picking up their kids from summer school or fine with the idea of keeping the mask requirement in place. the virus is still out there. >> now, even though june 15. came and went still don't get too comfortable because it's going to happen all over again. the california department of public health says they are continuing to review with the cdc just released and says they plan to release more state guidance for k through 12 schools on monday. maureen kelly kron 4 news. the california teachers association did release a statement on the state's decision. it reads in part, quote, we urge local school districts to use school sites as community vaccination centers and to continue working with educators, parents and the school community and developing safety protocols. >> governor gavin newsome,

meanwhile, signed a sweeping bill to overhaul the state's public school system. it will allow for free universal pre k for all 4 year-old by 2025. it also creates full service community schools improve staff to student ratios school nutrition and mental and social family services. now some school employees. they also see some pay raises through this. the governor is calling it a historic investment in the state's education system. >> this is a transformational budget. mark my words. this is like anything we have ever done in this state. so many things. we promoted so many things we dreamed up. we're delivering. when we sign this bill here today. >> governor newsom signed the legislation at a public school and napa that piece of legislation has a price tag of nearly 124 billion dollars. president biden says large american corporations have

it. what would a different climate. it's been in the 80's all overnight. but at the ground level, with that fog and that marine layer came in is very typical kind that situation set up that we always have an inversion. this one is a strong one. and with the daytime heating it will start to mix out a little bit. but boy, it's kind of nice relief and we'll get a little bit of that on shore, wind this afternoon. not as strong as usual, but 83 antioch lower 70's going on east bay. 62 still santa rosa. still maintaining somewhat mild temperatures to the north thus far 67 for san jose. speaking of those winds. yes, they check in this afternoon. not as strong as they typically would. and given the thermal gradient because it's much hotter in the east bay that it will be course along the bay. but this is a bit of a breeze that will check in by this afternoon and this evening tomorrow, a stronger wind expected. so it'll take a little bit of a slight edge off still hot. still got all the statements in place for sunday, but step by step, we're starting to break the back of this high looking more

long range from all of this. we're cooling down all week long. by the way. but we're looking ahead into next weekend. what we're seeing here is the bubbling up of little bit of moisture to the south. as you can see there that sometimes the monsoon moisture got to watch out for that this time of year because it can produce high level thunder showers going through dry air dry lightning. not good. ok, 4 zone forecast here we are 73 san francisco. this has been reduced slightly from earlier forecasts. and if you add a bit of a breeze to that. it makes it acceptable along. the coast will have about 70 going on for half moon bay. pretty lofty. now for the coastal locations. 88 burning game. it only gets hotter as we head south got the lower 90's checking in the southern end of the peninsula. redwood city 93 90 palo alto, mountain view, maybe about 84 lots of 90's here in the south bay and beyond that one. oh, one los gatos one. '03, for morgan hill. that's why you have the heat advisory today 95 for cupertino. not in the heat advisory. the east bay shoreline with those upper 80's tri valley 100 plus to be
