around the immediate. they were going to see a little improvement for today. here's the shot from u c berkeley. we really can't make out the east bay along the east bay shoreline that will happen later this morning. golden gate bridge is also socked by the fog for right now a look at what the map looks like still keeping everything in place until 00:00pm tonight with that excessive heat warning for the red and the oranges indicate an advisory. but there is an improvement we see down in the south a little bit on the north bay to with numbers not quite as severe. some data drops here. but you get the idea lot of 50's around the perimeter of the bay and inland temperatures start to climb a bit. meanwhile, the comparison from yesterday. well, it's a little cooler along the peninsula and up in the north bay. but in the east bay, it's actually warmer than this time from yesterday. 86. it looks like by 11 o'clock, by 2. we're talking 94 a closer look at your forecast coming up in a bit. no. >> thanks, dave. our top story this morning. firefighters were busy in the east bay overnight after 2 homes went up in flames. firefighters say

it's a good likelihood. at least one of those house fires was started by fireworks. kron four's camila barco is live at the contra costa fire protection district. >> with more details. camila. yes, i know i'm currently a contra costa county fire protection headquarters and may had a busy night as they battled 2 fires in just a matter of hours. it all started around 08:00pm. take a look at this video. crews were called to a neighborhood near the unified antioch. you. we have a unified unified school district when they responded to their first call. one home was in flames. the fire destroyed a fence trees a car and a power boat. now the hot embers blew across the street and started to more small fires first responders were able to put them out. but they were called back to the same neighborhood where another home caught on fire. the house was 50 yards away from the first home. and as noel said, firefighters believe fireworks

are the reason both homes were engulfed. >> and going off all night around here. a couple hours ago we responded to a fire. and pittsburgh and recently were just one street over for fireworks. but on some grasses vehicles on fire. this is a good likelihood that this from the same glass. >> now it's unclear who is responsible for setting off these fireworks. but coming up in the next hour, we're hearing from one homeowner who tells us that she has lost everything because of someone else's actions for now, for now, no. all back to you. alright camila, thank you for that live report. we'll check in with you. >> in the next hour. we have some breaking news from overnight in oakland. a man was killed. and what is now the city's 72nd homicide of 2021 that number now on pace to nearly double by the end of the year. last night's deadly

shooting happened at 51st avenue and east 12th street. the victim was killed just hours after oakland's police chief issued a plea to the community for help in ending violence in the city. kron forcefully. jamal has more from an oakland anti violence march that took place earlier in the day. >> you police chief armstrong. he says the escalation of deadly violence in his city is spinning out of control and that it will take a collective effort to bring an end to the troubling trend. oakland is asked to be a safe city no matter where >> a really good. people. it totally limit doesn't mind. at a stand up for a clinton rally long addressed the marched times of the chief and of the were in past incidents police brutality. but the event continued.

vacaville. here's some video from a chp helicopter tracking of the stolen van through a neighborhood. police on scene. we're able to stop the van using spike strips. the driver surrendered and was taken into custody. the name of that person has not yet been released. on the peninsula. a 62 year-old woman is accused of attempted murder following a 28 hour standoff in pacifica detectives say it started friday morning as a fight between 2 roommates on monterey road. when officers got to the scene, they found a woman had been stabbed 3 times in the chest. the other woman, ellen can admire ran to the back of the home which triggered that standoff. ken turned herself in to police yesterday morning. she's now being held for attempted murder. false imprisonment and violent elder abuse. the victim is being treated for her injuries and is expected to survive. happening right now. billionaire richard branson is moments away from

look at this. a chp helicopter made 2 rescues yesterday along the blue ridge trail near lake berryessa. the first in the morning when a hiker suffered a medical emergency and needed to be airlifted to a hospital. no word on that medical issue was that they were suffering from the second rescue happened later in the afternoon when temperatures were much higher. chp got a call of 2 hikers in distress on the trail. they were taken

from yesterday. so right above us. the temperatures are 80 something degrees. when you get up there about a 1000 feet or so. it's 80 something degrees. all there all night. it didn't really change. but this marine layer because it's cold air dense came right across the bay. typical fashion. we tend get a lot of times in the summer and it's still hanging out here clouding up as you will notice the golden gate bridge as well. now the temperatures again, we're missing some data, but you get an idea here. a lot of 50's around the perimeter of the bay inland. antioch still holding on to 73 and once the sun now has joined us. of course these numbers are going to start moving a lot more quickly, although around the bay they'll be a little sluggish because of this fog. so mix that fog out later on today. yesterday thunder showers going on this sierra bit. and then for tomorrow morning we'll do the fog and drizzle again. this time a little bit more aggressive than today. even and then those afternoon thunder showers. a possibility going on into monday afternoon. now those longer range forecast models by the way, are improvements. so this

is the last hot day improvement as we go forward. now, here's another thing helping out no, i was talking about those little wind gusts of wind. every so often we'll see more of them in the east tomorrow or sunday rather than we saw from yesterday looks like those winds will be into the teens will start a little sooner. they'll be a little stronger and we'll take us in the evening hours. still over the east bay hills going to be plenty hot. what triple digits still to be had. but along the coast, it will be nice and even chilly in spots. we repeat this performance tomorrow with the again, better coverage little stronger as well because now we're really changing the synoptic guard. that's right. the big high pressure system. it is weakening as we get into next week and you will feel the difference. so putting it all together, keeping everything in place even though this is an improvement from yesterday national weather service usually has a process by the awareness is out there. let's not take around a bit. let's just keep it in place heat advisory warning. you see the map except for the the east bay shoreline in san francisco which were never in it and certainly coast worries than

'03, 4 antioch 86 for napa. 92 santa rosa improvement. also appear in the north bay too, for today. well, bill, closer inspection of that in the 4 zone forecast a bit. noel, thanks, dave. starting tomorrow. the famed bixby bridge along highway one in big sur will be closed for maintenance during the overnight hours. those closures will take place from 10:00pm until 06:30am over the course of the next 3 weeks. >> closures will happen monday

through thursday nights and the bridge in the road will then the open on weekends to accommodate anticipated increase travel. there is no detour for this closure traffic control will be pirecting drivers to turn around during this closure time. so if you're trying to head that way. definitely do it before that >> i'm not. >> for oakland. firefighters are now in oregon to help put out the boot lake fire. that fire was sparked by lightning and has already scorched more than 38,000 acres evacuations are underway. the fire is only oakland fire crew is helping on the front lines in klamath county, other fire crews from across the bay area are also in oregon as part of a 2 strike team sent to help battle this place. >> still ahead, marvel is back on the big screen with the release of black widow. we have a preview of that and other movies straight ahead.

chump change. i would thanks for joining us here on the kron 00:00am morning news we want to get you started off what our temperatures are looking like a good amount of fog this morning. dave. keeping us a little bit cooler than yesterday. >> yeah. and down there in death valley getting halfway to the boiling point of water just something to consider a little we'll be seeing those temperatures pop again. well, inland predicting some elevated areas to which you get kind of a thermal gradient temperatures. sometimes are supported very nice when you get just above that level because we get cool by the fog in the morning hours. here's what it looks like a by the way, covering up a lot of the east bay shoreline for right now. there's a shot from downtown. also there you get the idea is still dealing with the fog this morning and temperatures in san francisco, much colder today. then from yesterday there's the map to give you an idea of the geography being covered and also that heat advisory is in place for the santa clara valley and up to the north bay as well. so a quick check of those winds. we have the winds kind of barreling in through

the the delta just a touch sending some of that marine layer moisture out that way to to kind of help things out for the morning hours. still a lot of 50's and 60's around the perimeter of the base 73 going on for antioch and 57 for fremont in palo alto. we'll do 85 at 11 by to 94 again. it will be hot today just like yesterday. but in all places temperatures will be slightly reduced. we'll take a look at that in the 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit. >> they're not come in here. they know they have good enough time. the get your money into a lake. >> a bold smash and grab robbery in the south bay hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry stolen. and it's not the first time the store has been targeted. the brazen break-in happened at the jefferies diamonds and goldsmiths located in campbell kron four's amanda hari talked with the owner of the store and has a look at the damage left behind. >> the owner is very frustrated. he says staff here spent about a day just trying

of the attacker. detective say they now know who he is. but the can't move forward without the victim anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact hayward police. we're learning more details about a deadly crash that killed a little boy and san jose. it happened friday evening near camden avenue and coos or road. investigators say the little boy was crossing camden in a cross walk against a do not walk signal the driver of the suv was headed south on camden. it had the green light at the intersection. the driver remained at the scene following the crash and is cooperating with detectives officials say it doesn't appear the driver was under the influence at the time. the death is san jose's 26th traffic deaths of 2021. >> happening now, billionaire richard branson moments away from launching into space. these are some live pictures from spaceport america in new

first of all, you know that the dogs they cool themselves by breathing. very rapidly through their mouth and their nose. so it's real important not to muscle not to. they need to freely move their mouths to cool off. if you see them excessively panting, you know, that's a sign they're trying to cool that if they're excessively panting, they're they're getting very overheated. it. another thing to look for. you know, we get really flashed in red when we get hot. but the dogs, of course, they don't you need to look at their guns as well as their tongue. it will get very red in flames. so that's another sign i think one of those points on the list. less responsive to usual commands. i think that's a really good sign to look for. that's my dog just disobedient. and but esl just like it just like a human become rent. less

high noon by 3 o'clock 95 double digits. how about that? we'll be taking a closer look at your forecast coming up in just a bit. noel. >> thanks, dave. our top story this morning. firefighters busy in the east bay overnight battling several different fires. firefighters say it's a good likelihood fireworks played a role kron four's camila barco breaks it all down for us. camila. there were 4 fires at all. >> that's exactly what investigators are saying. but we're here as you set to break it all down for you. they had a busy night as they responded to multiple small fires is what they're saying. and this all happened around 08:00pm when contra costa county fire received a call of a vegetation fire. they rushed to the neighborhood near the unified school district. and this is what they saw when they got their offense and some dried grass were in flames. they also found another fence to cause a bow and a tree on fire. they were able to put all of them out.

but less than 5 minutes later they were called back to the same neighborhood. >> where the exterior of the home was involved. that house was less than a block away from the initial incident. firefighters say it was windy when they were battling the flames, they believe the hot embers from the tree blew across the street and caused that house to catch on fire crews received reperts of fireworks going off and investigators did find remnants of it on the streets. they believe fireworks are the reason for the vegetation fire which caused a home to be destroyed. one homeowner is just has a bunch of questions as to why someone would set them off in these weather conditions. >> a lot of fireworks right here live right down the street. both ways. if they're constantly going up that jet all hours of the night. it like anybody's you're getting about it. the police station right rose by house of really

>> 8.15 here on this sunday morning and take a look at this. a chp helicopter made 2 rescues yesterday along the blue ridge trail near lake berryessa. the first happened in the morning when a hiker suffered a medical emergency and needed to be airlifted to a hospital. no word yet on what that medical issue was that they were suffering from. but another rescue that happened later in the afternoon as temperatures were much higher. chp got a call of 2 hikers in distress on a trail. they were taken to a local rest area where they were evaluated and given some

'03, 4, antioch upper 90's for a lot of the east bay still hot and 92 going on for santa rose again will be going into this and the 4 zone well. thanks, dave. starting tomorrow. the historic pic bixby bridge along highway one in big sur is going to be closed for maintenance during the overnight hours. >> those closures will take place from 10:00pm until 06:30am, over the course of the next 3 weeks now the bridge and the road will be open on the to kind of accommodate for increased traffic in the area. there's no detour for this closure. traffic control will direct drivers to turn around during that 10:00am or 10:00pm to 06:00am closure window. for oakland. firefighters are now in oregon to help put out the bootleg fire. that fire was sparked by lightning and has already scorched more than 38,000 acres evacuations are under way. the fire only one

percent contained the oakland fire crew is helping on the front lines in klamath county fire crews from across the bay area are also in oregon as part of a 2 strike team s nt to help battle that blaze. in national headlines recovery efforts continue in surfside, florida today. now more than 2 weeks following the deadly condo collapse. officials say the recovery mission is moving along with some great urgency. more bodies have been pulled from the rubble. the death toll now stands at 90 people more than 2 dozen people still unaccounted for as first responders desperately tried to provide closure to the families. >> teens are continuously working tirelessly to make progress on the site of the collapse. one shared purpose to bring closure to the families who are waiting for of their loved ones. >> officials say they're beginning to distribute

was asian several times before slapping him across the face. both the victim and the attacker left before police could get there. one of those witnesses was able to get the license plate of the attacker and detectives say they now know who he is, but they can't move forward without the victim anyone with information on the incident or on who the victim is is urged to contact hayward police. we're learning more details about a deadly crash that killed a little boy in san jose. it happened friday evening near camden avenue and coos or road. investigators say that little boy was crossing camden in a cross walk against a do not walk signal the driver of the suv was headed south on camden and have the green light at the intersection. the driver remained at the scene after the crash and is cooperating with detectives officials say it doesn't appear the driver was under the influence at the time. the death san jose's 26 traffic deaths of 2021. coming

not to muscle not to. they need to freely move their mouths to cool off. if you see them excessively panting, you know, that's a sign they're trying to cool. but if they're excessively panting, they're they're getting very overheated. another thing to look for. you know, we get really flashed in red when we get hot. but the dogs, of course they don't you need to look at their guns as well as their tongue. it will get very red and inflamed so that's another sign i think one of those points on the list. less responsive to usual commands. i think that's a really good sign to look for. that's my dog just disobedient. and but esl just like it just like a human become rent. less responsive. >> so a dog will also be like that to maybe not can come back, you know, answer to commands or just kind of start wandering off. so that's also something to look for. and

then there's some more serious signs if your dog is dealing with heat exhaustion or heat stroke that you should be looking for as well. >> yes. so not a vot one that vomiting. you might notice that. >> they could passed out just like a human can become very lethargic. so you just have to look for the signs and and really try to cool them off as as easy as quickly as possible. don't give them any ice chips. you know, they could actually choke on that and you can get water in their lungs. what i like to do. first of all, on a walk. make sure they have plenty of water and these little things are really nice for taking on a walk and it just pops out into an instant ball. so they they could always give them water real important to hydrate them. whenever you go on a walk. when you feel like

they're exhausted yet from the heat. >> also, of course, never leave your your dog in a parked car in the heat and i know getting your your dog. summer. shave is good, too. >> oh, yeah. the haircut so we can take our coats off that the dogs can getting a a summer cut is is always nice. but then again you have to be careful not to go to shore because you still need to protect their skin from the sun. so kind of find a happy medium between, you know, shorter cut but not too short and then of walking at certain times of the day as opposed to right in the middle of the day. >> all right. so walking early in the morning or later in the evening. also. so especially concrete is not going to be as hot and you brought up about the car. you know the car even 70 degree weather. it could heat up to a 120 in minutes. so just not a good idea to

heat spell warning excessive heat warning is still in place and to 11 where the reds are and the yellows indicate a heat advisory and this will be with those lofty temperatures in some places will be above 100 delay who up cool 56 at this hour. 76 for antioch 61 for fairfield in palo alto and looking ahead for today. 93 at 1 o'clock by 4. we're talking 94 still do have some triple digits on our board will talk about your heatwave coming up in a bit. >> thanks, dave. our top story this morning. firefighters were busy in the east bay overnight after several different fires. firefighters say it's a good likelihood fireworks are the culprit here. kron four's, camila barco joining us now live camila. it was for fires and all. >> yeah. no. that's exactly what investigators are saying. 3 of them were small vegetation and property fires the 4th was a home and it all happened in a neighborhood

near the end in iraq near the antioch unified school district. initially when firefighters around arrived around 08:00pm. they found dry grass and offense in flames nearby. they found another fence to cause a boat and a tree on fire. they were able to put on them out. less than 5 minutes later, as you can see in this video, they were called back to the same neighborhood and found the exterior of this home engulfed in flames. firefighters say it was windy when they were battling the flames, they believe the hot embers blowing from a tree caused the house to catch on fire. crews say they had received reports of fireworks going off earlier in the night. >> and investigators found remnants of in the streets. >> and going off all night around here. a couple hours ago we responded to a fire. and pittsburgh and recently we were just one street over for fireworks. but on some grasses vehicles on fire. this is a

shooting happened at 51st avenue and east 12th street. the victim was killed just hours after oakland's police chief issued a plea to the community for help in ending violence in the city. kron four's. phillipe djegal has more from an oakland anti violence march that took place he says the escalation of deadly violence in his city is spinning out of control and that it will take a collective effort to bring an end to the troubling trend. oakland is asked to be a safe city no matter where >> a really good but people of the doesn't mind. they want their voices at a stand up for a clinton rally long addressed the marched times of the chief and of the were in past incidents police brutality. but the event continued.

under arrest after leading police on a chase through vacaville. here's some video from a chp helicopter that is tracking the stolen van through a neighborhood. police on scene were able to stop that van using spike strips. the driver surrendered and was taken into custody. the name of the driver has not yet been released. and on the peninsula, 62 year-old woman is accused of attempted murder following a 28 hour standoff in pacifica detectives say it started friday morning as a fight between 2 roommates on monterey road. when officers got to the scene, they found a woman stabbed 3 times in her chest. the other woman, ellen ken meyer ran to the back of the house. triggering a standoff. ken meyer turned herself in to police yesterday morning. she's being held for attempted murder. false imprisonment and violent elder abuse. the victim is being treated for her injuries and is expected to survive. coming up here on the kron 4 morning news a brazen burglary at a south bay jewelry store all

had to make 2 rescues yesterday along the blue ridge trail near lake berryessa. the first rescue happened in the morning when a hiker suffered a medical emergency and needed to be airlifted to a hospital. no word on what that medical issue was that they were suffering from. but just several hours later in the afternoon. a second rescue had to happen when temperatures were much higher. chp got a call of 2 hikers in distress on a trail. they were taken to a local rest area where they were evaluating given a little bit of water. officials are reminding everyone with these increase temperatures. you should not be out hiking if you're not experienced and especially if you don't have enough water a lot of people are headed to the water, the beaches and our local rivers try and cool off during this extreme heat. but there are some safety reminders that people need to be aware of doing those activities as well. throwing a shot has more from the sacramento river.

afternoon. now, what will happen upstream as this high breaks down little bit. we get more of a flow pattern from the northwest ushering in systems from the pacific northwest. not rain as we wish, but at least this onshore flow will continue and really start cooling us down more aggressively today. not a bad effort. there you see the numbers pop a little bit double digits. a lot of the east bay without this. we see numbers even higher than we're going to see today. nice insulation in san francisco in southern marin. again, increase this tomorrow. as you can see, they pop in terms of the winds picking off to the east bay. so putting this all together. heat advisory warning going on today except for the east bay. the shoreline and also san francisco and also southern solano fairfield appoints the south. you're not in this anymore. you can been taken off of the sacramento office tomorrow. hot inland 90's while inland. we've got 70's and 80's their back, which will feel a lot better for july. and then for this week we continue the cooling trend to the 70's and the 80's happening inland chile at the coast, though, getting maybe

victim and the attacker left before police could get there. but one of those witnesses was able to get the license plate of the attack are now detectives say they know who this attacker is, but they can't move forward without the victim filing charges now anyone with information on the incident or anyone knowing who this victim might be is urged to contact hayward police. we're learning more details about a deadly crash that killed a little boy in san jose. it happened friday evening near camden avenue and coos or road. investigators say the young boy was crossing camden in a crosswalk against a do not walk signal. now, the driver of the suv was headed south on cam. didn't have the green light at the intersection. the driver did remain at the scene after the crash and is cooperating with detectives. officials say it doesn't appear the driver was under the influence at the time. the death is san jose is 26 to traffic deaths of 2021.

for your money. now millions of families could start getting monthly. federal child tax credit checks starting this upcoming thursday, our washington, dc correspondent reshad hudson axplains how it benefits working families. this is going to help. >> democrats like senate majority leader chuck schumer say this year's expanded child tax credit is the country's largest investment in working families. it does great things for our economy. pumping money into it for the rest of the year. many parents of children under the age of 6 are eligible for $300 monthly payments or $250 for children. 6 to 18 people who didn't make enough to file taxes will still be eligible for the payments. this is the largest attacks child tax credit history and indiana. congressman andre carson says there are no restrictions on how to spend the money. it will be providing historic relief to families at a time when they need it the most.

democrats say the child tax credit payments will cut child poverty in half. but republicans worry it will lead to more government spending. robert rector with the conservative think tank. the heritage foundation believes the program will incentivize people not to work. when you pay people not to work. >> they were rector says work requirements should be added for anyone receiving payments. we can even be more generous. then the existing system. but we expect you to take steps to help yourself. the payments expire at the end of the year. but democrats say they would like to see them renewed and 20 22 reporting in washington. reshad hudson. >> and national headlines recovery efforts continue in surfside, florida. now more than 2 weeks following the deadly condo collapse. officials say the recovery mission is moving along with great urgency. more bodies have been pulled from rubble over the last day. the death toll stands at 90 people more than 2 dozen are still

unaccounted for us. first responders desperately try to provide closure to the families. >> teens are continuously working tirelessly to make progress on the site of the collapse. one shared purpose to bring closure to the families who are waiting the 3 days of their loved ones. >> officials say they're beginning to distribute millions of dollars in donations to help those victims. for your health. the fda is refusing pfizer's authorization request for a 3rd shot of its covid-19 vaccine pfizer plans to seek authorization for a booster dose and august saying it would provide better protection against the delta variant. but in a joint statement, both the fda and cdc say americans do not need boosters yet adding it's not up to companies alone to decide when they might be needed. >> this is science and motion and there's always going to be debate about the best way to

ahead, we're looking a slightly improved forecast here. you know, the advisory zone is still in place and all the stuff on the map. but there's a slight amendment which numbers show you a bit overcast skies as we can see from half moon bay. the familiar map and there's a gap now developing in here. why is our friend the fog on shore flow. all working in tandem right across the delta. as you can see, one of the reasons why, you know, is always cool like that. but right the delta. so that's going to take more coverage. and it's really important. noting that in san francisco because we've been through this in the last few years. if you get the height the right spot and you don't get those winds. that's where san francisco can go through the 80's. the 90's, even 100 plus. but when you take that

away and you have the winds at work. it's a totally different program. so this important. we get these winds like this and we're going to see that return tomorrow by this point. the high tomorrow and tuesday really start to break down. so we're losing our upper level support with that good as we look forward in the week ahead. we continue this cooling trend will get nips. a little systems coming in from our north. it's all going to say to the north, unfortunately, we're not going to get anything from in terms of any rain, but we just get some cooler temperatures upstream. this is late next weekend. we're getting a bubbling up from the southeast here. this sometimes can be a little bit of an higher level thunder showers doesn't appear in the cards for us. we'll get some passing clouds here sunday, monday of next week. that's about it. it's like to do much temperatures either. but just something to watch as we start to get knee deep into monsoon season which will take us at octob r 66 san francisco to the coast or in the lower 60's bayside 79 for burlingame to the south will get to.

called the silent d in diversity. and after a year of talking about how important it is for institutions and businesses to focus on diversity. i thought it was time to highlight those who our society all too often leaves out now, you might not know this, but july is disability pride month and today i'm joined by a woman named emily le dow. she is an activist public speaker and author and she's here to kind of give us the scoop on how to be a better ally to our disabled community members to emily, thank you so much for joining me. i want you to first introduce yourself to us. i know you've been a disability advocate since you were 10 years old. that's rain. no, i am so excited to be here. and what you can't see. but what is below the screen is that i am a wheelchair user so i am one in 4 american adults who has a disability. >> my disability specifically is a physical disability. so that means that i use a wheelchair to get around the world.

>> 10 years old. you decided, ok, i need to go out and start speaking about my disability. talk to me a little bit about what disability pride months means to you. >> i think that my understanding of disability pride has evolved as i the bald over the years. great, though society looks down upon this ability. and for me that meant that i internalized looking down on disability. i did not understand its ability as something that was a positive part of my identity until much later in life. when i began connecting with the broader community of other people with disability. you when i was boring. the only person in my life with a disability. and even this is rare was my mother, my mother shares the same disability. and i do so i had a bit of an advantage in that i was able to see a disabled role model, a disabled adult out and about in the world. but it was until i really started to connect with peers with disability and realize that i'm part of the

community, a beautiful and diverse community that i began to feel this really deep sense of pride in this part of who i am. this part of my identity. i think you kind of hit the nail on the head there because it you know, i have a cousin who is disabled. i have a friend who was disabled who actually connected me with you so that we could have this conversation here and they were honestly the only 2 people in my life that i had, you know, had experience with i think, you know, and if you don't have that, then sometimes, you know, the unknown can be a little uncomfortable for some people what you definitely shouldn't be. and i know you have a podcast. >> you have a blog called words i we'll buy, which i just love that title. talking about who you're trying to reach on those platforms. >> so the truth is that i'm trying to reach everybody. i think that we don't recognize the disability of the part of everyone's lives, whether or not the disability is a parent like mine. i use a wheelchair or not parent, something that

you can perhaps somebody who is autistic, right. you might not notice that disability. but we all have someone in their lives, whether we recognize it or not and maybe even ourselves. we just haven't gotten around to identifying it does evil yet and so for me and all of the work that i do. i'm trying to reach anyone who i can needs to hear and learn and understand what the disability experience like. and i have. saying that i like to you. it's that if we want the world to be accessible to the disability community, then let's as people with disability. you make. our experience is accessible and really double to the people around us right. we can do our part as disabled people, especially during disability pride to really owner identity and share our story. and so when i'm writing when i'm pod casting, my hope is that anyone who's willing to listen. and larry, i want to meet them where they're at. well, i know you did a lot of

writing. you have a book that's coming out this fall. it's called demystifying disability. >> i honestly think we could all use this on our bookshelves. it's going to be available on amazon and all and also to different platforms. give us an idea of what we're going to find inside your book. >> absolutely. so my goal in writing this book was really to create a friendly and approachable primer to disability. it was nothing like that currently on shelves, although their time the media by disabled people. but sometimes it feels really scary. as you were mentioning before it's unfamiliar. it can be uncomfortable. where do we start? i wanted to give people a judgment free space where they can start where they can get questions answered about language and disability when making a question answered about what disability actually is things about any things and that disability in the media a little bit of disability history. this is a really great starting point for anybody who have questioned and they're afraid to ask those questions. i want people to feel like disability isn't

scary. it's just another part of the human experience. i in the book there are a couple of points that you that you make about, you know what to do when you're interacting with someone with a disability. and i think the number one point that come out with his be your usual self. you don't have to speak any differently. >> you have speak slower louder than usual. i i know that's something i'm sure you have encountered over the course of your life. >> absolutely. i think that people are unsure how to interact with disabled people. but dear usual self really is the best advice that i can give because a disabled person is just that a person interact with them in the same way that you would interact with someone you know, to be not disabled. emily, thank you so much for joining me this morning. happy a disability pride month. i really, really appreciate your time. >> thank you so much for having me. happy disability we'll be right back.
