8:15 am
covers us up a little bit because moist air is actually less dense than dry air. but it is a base of the overrun by the fact that just being cold. and that's why it's so happy like that. this is the shot from the east bay shoreline. as you can see a little bit shrubbery year as will the day morning progresses. we'll probably start to see a clear picture what's going on in london. golden gate of the fog is not at the lower levels. but sometimes when it starts the mixing process. it dips down before finally mixing out. the only place we're seeing any winds really around the delta just naturally being produced here. single digits cover most of the territory, lower 60's along the east bay shoreline. we pop to the upper 60's. well, inland 50's to the north bay 61 san jose 58 for san francisco. now, yesterday we had the flareup of those thunder showers going on in the mountains will see the same thing again but not quite the intensity of yesterday. return again to the fog in the home front. maybe some scattered clouds kind of streaming on in from the coast a little bit, but that will be the latter portion of the day say around 5 o'clock or so
8:16 am
that's not being generated by monsoon or anything that's just coming in from this low and this low, by the way, what kind of shut off all the monsoon for much of the west really pushing off to the rockies and reaply new mexico. so for today warning, they fog clouds and all that business turns. mostly sunny except that the coast. that's a problem area. nice with 70's for the bay and 90's to low 90's maybe inland lot of upper 80's, by the way, early in the week, we bump that up just slightly than minor cooling wednesday. that's we get the max impact from this gulf of alaska low temperatures to retreat back to the 80's and the latter portion we kind of billy back up again. but that's minor changes going on day to day 66 san francisco oakland at 70 noting some of the scattered clouds with the fog mixing out 78 san jose. the wider perspective of things. again, we'll just touch the 90's and some of those sensitive areas. contra costa county, solano county usually that's where it happened. 68 for vallejo up to the north bay santa rose only about 81 to bottle 84 we'll

get more into the weeds with this coming up in just a bit. with your 4 zone forecast and that extended well. >> for your health this morning. august is cataract awareness month. and according to the world health organization cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world and the leading cause of vision loss here in the united states. they typically begin developing at age 40 and older our health expert karen, a walk here with some tips to help protect your eyes. karen, thanks for joining first and foremost, what are cataracts. >> cataracts affect the lens the eye and the land is a clear, clear lands that looks something like this. this is an example. and what happens is what your consists of water in proteins. but as you get older, those protein start to clump together. and then you end up with something like like this. you get it's clouding in that cloud in to
8:18 am
get bigger and bigger that cloud. it. area is called the cadillac. so as you can see, it's very difficult to see and it to get worse. it gets worse and worse it can actually go okay. i know a way to correct this. people have surgery. >> to correct cataracts cracked, right. so they just removed this damage lands and then replace it with an artificial lens. is >> a difficult surgery? i feel like anything with my eyes. i get a little nervous. you know. >> actually not it's not so bad. and over 2 million surgeries are done every year it was interesting. well, when you have this clouded vision, you know, colors on is vibrant and what my mother-in-law after she had her surgery. all this said it. she says, oh, i love my won't pay haha. all the colors came alive again. so it's it's really life changing when you could see and see colors again.
8:19 am
definitely. you >> that cataracts are developing at age 40. but who's most at risk. >> so the the older one in 2 americans that are 75 and older are more prone. >> but one in 6 americans start developing cataracts at age 40. and you also have some there. if there is a small percentage of children that are born with cataracts so one in 250 children are born with that and women. that's to say 61% are women and that's because women tend to live a little bit longer. so they're more prone to these degenerative diseases hormonal changes also have an effect. okay. i see cataract surgery will decrease your risk of a hip fracture by 16%. how is that? yes. so this is really interesting when you think about it's not just all about
8:20 am
the eyes. so it can it can have life changing consequences. in reducing hip fractures in that people can see better. so they're more or less at risk of falling in running into obstacles and then same with acts car accident. see reduction about 14%. are 13%. will fewer accidents. you know, from driving the could see better. okay. so let's talk a little bit about the lifestyle risk factors for cataracts. okay. so. cataracts number one, the things that can cause cataracts is too much sun so that the. the uv rays make sure you wear sunglasses when you're outside. i really like to see the little kids. the, you know, started or start them early to protect the eyes. so and think about wearing sunglasses. even when you're driving at any time when you're outside. diabetes is another one because of the
8:21 am
blood sugar. the blood sugar, high blood sugar binds of protein. so it goes to show you're at higher risk of these cataracts and being overweight. high cholesterol high blood pressure. those are also risk factors as well, ok, you king to smoking affects the blood vessels and it has a serious consequences all the way around. there's good close relatives of cataracts. does that mean this is a something that you can pass on. yeah, it you take it tends to run in families. so so that's something to also be aware of and any kind of eye injury if you had a previous eye injury at one time that could make you more prone to cataracts to ok. so of course that like you mentioned, you know, wearing sunglasses things like that. making sure you don't have high cholesterol. keeping a healthy lifestyle should help you to not develop cataracts.
