>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 7. >> good morning. it's saturday. august 14. thank you so much for joining us here on kron 00:00am morning news. >> i'm ella sogomonian. noelle bellow has the day off. we have a lot to get to this morning. but let's start by getting a look at the weather forecast with dave spahr. >> hey, good morning all. and good morning, we're starting off things with our traditional morning fog and all of that. however, today you'll be feeling a little bit of the teeth of summer, particularly in those inland valleys as temperatures climb to near about 100 or so we will do is fight today and tomorrow. little kind of backtrack a little bit into

next week. now to start things off again. there's that fog. you can see filling up the bay. we will watch this recede in the east bay shoreline starting to open up. also the golden gate bridge which is used in the last stop along the journey. take care of the towers. we can only see them in left that fog out. however, later on today with the mostly sunny skies. we'll see. temperatures climb very nicely in those inland valleys. you can see by 9.45 most the fog is handled even along the coast that we do have couple intruders to make note of out to see a little bit. some tropical moisture is left over. and we're going to get a little bit of the spray of clouds coming in from the sierra later today. they'll be firing up some thunder showers there and they will drift across the central valley into parts of our viewing area. again, that will be overnight and that should clear out for your sunday. a look at bay area temperatures right now we're in the lower 60's letting up the east bay shoreline 69 for antioch. got the 50's up to the north bay. 63 san jose and 57 for san francisco just to compare things are either a couple degrees ahead. we're behind

where we were 24 hours ago. breaking your day down. it's basically mostly sunny temperatures, as you can see, bullet later on morning hours to about 2 o'clock at 94. but again, some of those inland valleys be looking at 100 or so. we'll take the tour and all that coming up in a bit. l a. >> it's so much dave. on to our top story this morning stopping the spread of covid-19 football is back concerts are returning and now some of those large events are requiring proof of vaccination while health experts say that being outdoors is less risky. with that highly transmissible. delta variant. so they're still precautions that we do need to take kron four's. gayle ong joins us to explain. >> if you're stuck in a crowded with people all around you, particularly yelling and screaming like a concert or a football game. i think is a risky situation for you. and i would try and avoid it right now. you see berkeley infectious disease expert doctor john swartzberg says those most at risk are people who are not vaccinated. doctor rona subramanian infectious

disease professor at stanford agrees. we don't know who's vaccinated and who's not. and unfortunately dumped a variant. >> is a new virus that's going around. even if you're vaccinated. >> you can't have a lot of. viral particles in your nasal passages as the delta variant has been described as highly transmissible. >> large events are still set to happen. apple's bottle, rock. music festival is requiring proof of vaccination or a negative covid test at levi stadium where the forty-niners will kick off their preseason schedule this weekend. >> proof of vaccination and a negative covid tests are not required. masks are optional, but safety protocols are in place, which is why health experts caution. >> to be safe. if you are doing those activities where you're close together and you are and cheering and singing. are likely to their us allies. you have covid-19 at there is a risk to those around. you i always carry mask with me if

and they're installing air purifiers at their local schools. they've already had hundreds of them placed on buildings across the district. the air systems are designed to help kill harmful pathogens such as covid-19 while the air purifiers are not 100% protective against covid-19 experts explain that they can dramatically reduce the risk of transmission. it's not going to stop. >> per se. someone from getting covid. someone comes in the room with it. but the ability for it to spread can be minimized. greatly. i've been able to exchange it clean here in the room. >> so the enviro cleanse air purification system. the pleasanton schools will be using has also been implemented at public schools over in washington and chicago. meantime, during the first week of school. 7 students from a mix of elementary middle and high school campuses within the san ramon valley unified school district have tested positive for covid-19 one of those cases reported at los heiress

middle school parents that we spoke with said that they're concerned. >> 8 is you need to be better of. it got a younger son was not vaccinated because he's too young i'm concerned for him. but the trend that we'rn seeing, the delta. >> you know it. it was expected all been happy to not see it the first week that it, you know, it is what it is. >> the school leaders have said that all of the positive cases are among students. and in addition to aceras middle school, there were 3 cases reported over at vista grande elementary school when ksat san ramon valley high and 2 cases at california high school. >> well, this all comes as the cdc and fda have approved booster shots for pfizer and moderna's covid vaccines. >> for people with weakened immune systems. a 3rd dose will be available for those with cancer organ transplants or other conditions that weaken their immune systems. the cdc weighed in saying that

the new authorization will not include johnson and johnson's vaccine because of a lack of sufficient data authorization comes as the u.s. is now averaging more than a 114,000 covid cases every day. however, the number of new vaccinations is ticking up slightly. the u.s. is now averaging more than half a million doses every day. that's the highest number since june. >> happening today. it's a move in day for students over at the university of san francisco for second year students. this will be the first time coming to campus last year. the pandemic, of course, for some too. have that experience off campus and instead via a computer screen. but now staff volunteers are excited and ready to welcome them to the new dorm and dining hall which were both completed while usf was fully remote. the alameda county jail in santa rita has suspended all in-person visiting officials say that that decision was made because of a rise in covid-19 cases,

dixie fire broke out and now people living in greenville are returning to what's left of their homes. that town, as you can see, completely destroyed by that fire. hundreds of homes were lost in the towns and many residents. we're only able to escape. but the clothes on their backs will still residents say they're grateful that nobody was killed. local officials say that it's too soon to think about whether they will attempt to rebuild the town. and officials also said that there are changes needed to prevent fires like this from happening again. >> we need to change right now how we manage our wild lands because if we don't, then places like greenville. we're going to see on repeats again and again and again. >> so far the dixie fire has charred more than 517,000 acres. and it's currently 31% contained. >> we're going to take a look again at the weather forecast meteorologists dave spahr giving us a closer look at what the weekend has in store. dave's it pretty beautiful across the bay. it looks

pretty nice. yeah. except it's going to be getting pretty toasty for those inland valleys reminder that we're still into. some are now starting things off with the cool fog. i grant that's kind of nice has been pushed a little bit more to the ground. the model say the should mix out the next couple of hours. the only thing is upstairs. it actually isn't that that dry typically we have sri lanka inverted hat kind of picture. when you take a look at the models in terms of the we call scoot he chose of this going on upstairs. that means is very dry and very warm with this morning. it's drier but not real world dry and it is much warmer, too. so that means that like a little difficult in terms of kind of shaken off this strapped right here at the law. a lower levels. there's the golden gate bridge. trust me, it's there. that hours still obscured by the fog. sometimes we can see this is latest 12 at noon, even though the rest of the bay is opening up temperature check lower 60's for us on the east bay shoreline 72 for antioch up in the north bay got 50's 58 for san francisco 63 meanwhile for san jose. outside which one on

locally. some larger features happening when some blow off of a leftover tropical system out to sea and we're getting a bit of the monsoon indirectly that will happen tonight a little bit what's going to happen is showers and thunder showers will fire up in the sierra for today with the daytime heating and then later on during the day and overnight they're going to drift over the valley and come across the bay during the overnight hours but should start to clear us by 7.30. all right. we do the same thing again on sunday. the fire up a thunder showers. the clouds not coming here looks like they're being pushed. they are. there's a system in their backyard coming in from the pacific here to help out. you can see this from the footprints of the winds today daytime heating drives the onshore winds. okay. that's typical. but then we see tomorrow afternoon late in the day particular appear in the north bay intrusion of some of those winds because of a little trough in our backyard. so clearing hot still inland. we got near 80 for the bay 100 well inland tonight, overnight clouds are just showed you

clearing some same temps, rather breezy happening late. that's tomorrow. now that will be driven by this front then for next week we've got sunny in some cooling, some upper 80's inland spots that were near popping near 100 for today. so the little bit of a changing climate going on here. 71 san francisco 77 for oakland, a san jose checking in at 86. but when you start to get further inland. look at that 100 for antioch, 19 unconquered. those are usually the suspects that we see numbers pop. but even 95 going on for santa rosa. you probably will do that tomorrow. 97 meanwhile for livermore coming up in a bit. we'll take a look at that. 4 zone forecast. see what's really going on here now. look forward thanks, dave. >> it's a big day for football fans. in the bay area as both the raiders and forty-niners kick off their preseason schedule this weekend. and we know that jimmy g will start the game for the niners. this will also be the first time that the niners play in front of fans at levi stadium since the end of the 2019 season. so

there are going to be a lot of safety protocols in place. but of course, a lot of excitement to go along with it. kron four's camila barco joins us live in santa clara with all those details. >> good morning, allison. yet it is game day here at levi stadium the forty-niners take on the kansas city chiefs for the first pre season game of the year. but the team has another opponent that isn't on the field. it is covid now despite a surge in cases. the team isn't limiting capacity inside the stadium. you won't need to prove that you're vaccinated for entry. but the forty-niners are encouraging everyone to get a covid shot now physical paper tickets are a thing of the past at levi stadium game tickets are mobile this year as a way to limit physical contact. this includes parking passes and you can find them on the forty-niners app were they all need to be scanned in order for you to get past the gates levi stadium is also a cashless venue helping reduce the interaction between employees and fans. you can only pay with credit card or

your phone for food drinks. or merchandise. now, once you're inside the stadium, you'll have to mask up when you're in indoor spaces, regardless of your vaccination status. now, this includes the forty-niners museum, the luxury suites, the bathrooms or the team's store. but when you're outside, you don't have to wear a face covering hand. sanitizers are also placed throughout the stadium now, 20,000 fans got a glimpse of their favorite players last week during an open practice. take a look at this. this was the first group of people out inside levi stadium since the pandemic forced the team to not allow fans in sighs. that's been more than a year. you can also see that everyone was decked out in forty-niners gear. but everyone also had a mask in hand. however, today will be the first game fans will be able to see inside levi stadium since the pandemic began. the parking lot here opens up at 2.30 and the game

to the kron 00:00am morning news. >> we're going to start off on this half hour with a look at the forecast. dave spahr in the weather center with what you can expect on this saturday. >> hey, good like good morning, everybody. and that once we take care of the fog. that will be a mostly sunny skies are looking at for today. it will be quite toasty, though. and there are heat advisories that have been posted actually northern solano county is about the only place near us that that's happening. but when you get off towards the east outside the immediate bay area into the sacramento valley. yeah. you're under it. so during any traveling for this weekend out that way. it will be plenty hot enough that that's a big surprise. but here's what it looks like along the east bay shoreline while we talked to this morning, we expect this area to lift off. the fog has been much more less moist down to the ground level here, if you will. ella, just looked at me. that's not a technical term. and just whatever the golden gate bridge is all covered up with this fog. one area we try to look at. we see clearing here. we know it's really working elsewhere. meanwhile, come some factors

california politics poll with emerson college 46% are planning to vote on recalling the governor 48% want to keep governor newsom and 6% are undecided early voting for the september 14th recall election opens this monday. political analyst michael yaki says newsom has to motivate democrats to actually fill those ballots out. according to the latest poll. >> he was down by 20 points among latinx voters and he can't afford to lose that we can't afford to lose any votes. you can afford lose anyone who voted for joe biden in the last election. this the kind of thing where. every vote is going to count. it's going to be the other side is incredibly motivated to get out the vote is to do the same thing with his side. biden tweeted out his support for newsom thursday today, newsom said both the president and the vice president are going to come out here to show their support for him in person in the coming weeks. >> newsom now heads to san diego and los angeles on saturday. maureen kelly kron 4 news.

>> the bay area air quality management district has expanded the air quality advisory through sunday. that advisory was set to end on friday. but was extended because of all the smoke from the wildfires burning in northern california as well as southern oregon. they're quality district says that the smoke will be especially bad in the north bay mountains, east bay hills. diablo range and coastal hills. people with respiratory issues are encouraged to take extra precautions to avoid exposure to the smoke. well, dave spahr is here with your forecast talking about the outdoors let's see what the weather has in store for the rest of your day. >> hail a good morning. and good morning, everybody. and all that high just kind of sitting on top of us actually helping pushing the fog down lower levels. little bit today. we'll have a little bit of a surface breeze going on

this afternoon, but really to help clean things out will be late tomorrow and cooling us off too late tomorrow. the development of a little front dropping south and it's going help kind of clean things up in the monsoon. the desert southwest later on, which will show you in the long range forecast models. there's the fog peeling away. we can now get a little shot here. parts of the east bay shoreline is the fog starts to recede. it will do more of that. obviously later this morning sfo, by the way, no delays happening this morning with the fog temperature check up to 72 antioch 60's or lower 60's at that for a good chunk of the east bay 50's up to the north bay. another are heat. advisories have been posted. but that's pretty much of the sacramento valley in fact, the only area that's directly impacted is the northern part of solano county, 63, by the way, for san jose and 58 for san francisco. let's as a to the tropics. real quickly. there's actually 2 in the atlantic worth noting but will be focusing on fred, for right now and it's a tropical depression right now, but it

turning to our wildfire coverage over in lake county evacuation orders have been lifted. but there remains a warning instead, this is because of the coyote fire that's burning near the area of highway 29. and this is a look at a camera from saint at last update. cal fire said that that fire has burned about a 100 acres and is 60% contained and it looks like the skies still really smokey out there, but less of an orange haze. and what we saw earlier. evacuation warning is in place is mentioned. caltrans has announced that it has reopened highway 29 after shutting it down last night. and some somber news is today dixie fire broke out and now people living in greenville are returning to what's left of their homes which is you can seen this video is unfortunately not much 3 first responders were also hurt. we just learned and the town completely destroyed by fire hundreds of homes were lost in that area and many residents.

>> turning now to wild for coverage over in lake county evacuation orders have been lifted, but there remains a warning instead. that's because the coyote fire is still burning near the area of highway 29 this is a look at a camera from saint helena and at last check, cal fire said that the fire has burned about a 100 acres and is 60% contained evacuation warning again is in place. but caltrans did announce it highway. 29 was reopened after it shut down last night. and today marks one month, if you can believe it, since the dixie fire broke out and people living in greenville have returned to this scene basically not much left of what once was the town completely destroyed by that fire. hundreds of homes have been lost and many residents only have the clothes that they took off with still residents say that they are grateful that nobody was killed. the dixie fire has burned more than 517,000 acres

and is currently 31% contained. closer to home. here. it is shaping up to be a gorgeous weekend in the bay area. you might not believe it now. but the clouds will disperse eventually said dave spahr has the details on when you can enjoy some sun this saturday. >> they're to disperse, right. ella dispersed, haha clearing skies are looking for later on today. take care of some of this fog. and you got that right along the coast there, half moon bay. it's still kind of overcast, but most of the bay looks pretty good. you know, we're going to mostly sunny skies over the cooking and here except the golden gate bridge. that's one of the slow spots to get the fog to disperse and we're looking for temperatures to really climb. love it. that's a good one. 78 at this hour for any are already warming up in the far east bay upper 60's to the far east bay too. we've got 60's up in the north bay. now to along the east bay shoreline. so lot of uniformity with temperatures. so the next step is the decoupling often those inland areas as they really start roasting later today.

now what we have going on here is we have some moisture bubble up from the south out to see. this is some tropical stuff left over from a tropical system and the monsoon which will fill up our later tonight as we see some thunder showers or at least some rain going on sierra later today. future cast for at daytime heating boom. they fire up the exhaust clouds come over our air overnight and clear up in time for sunday, then they're kind of interrupted. yeah, they fire up again sunday afternoon with heating, but they stopped because of a front in our backyard that will serve the cool us by the time we get into early next week. now let's watch the wind patterns. you can get an idea that the winds here being driven by the excessive heating happening in london. the bay relatively more mild temperatures. that's typical currents than tomorrow. got the winds. pretty active up here. again, that's the front intruding driving these winds. so the game plan is this. we've got clearing hot inland near 80 for the 100 well inland now

even up in solano county, the northern edge up there has a heat advisory. tomorrow. overnight clouds we just mentioned clearing out, though. and then the same temps will have on balance, but it will be breezy by the late part of the day and then into next week we've got sunny in some cooling going on. upper 80's. it looks like by tuesday in areas that are looking at 100 lose a good decade or better after we get some a change of venue if you will, 71 going on for san francisco. 77 going on for oakland san jose at 86 a lot better than that. temperature wise when you see these well inland valleys, plenty of 90's in the east bay. we've got some up here in the north bay. we could see 100 perhaps off to antioch and if you're driving on anywhere up to the sacramento valley, whatever out 100 plus there. and they do have that heat advisory that's in place coming up a little bit here. we'll have the 4 zone forecast for you look to the extended and also some tropical action on the gulf of mexico to impact the coast down. south will have that as well. hopefully the sun too unbearable inland.
