seeing a little bit better in the sky conditions to in the fog was very slow to clear and certain and we should see some better clearing on that front today, too. >> here's the shot from the east bay shoreline. you can see what the hays behind us here. now we're kind of stuck in this pattern as we wait for really the next heat spike to develop here with all this golden gate bridge. it's more of an overcast scenario that we have not so much the ground fog, but sometimes when the fog reposition itself fog drops lower 60's on the east bay shoreline. we got 60 little morning antioch 50's mostly up to the north bay 60 for checking in in san jose. now, we've already had our front passed through will continue to have the local scenario we have with the morning fog and then the afternoon it looks like we won't see the flare up in the sierra of the afternoon showers and thunder showers. that will be another week or front passing toward north. that will be midweek. but the pulsating that you will see clearing out again. the fog returns overnight. the sierra very, very quiet. we don't have that monsoon bubbling back up again. yet. and it looks like nothing's going to do that, at least not over the next few days. a look at how
7:17 am
we break everything down. a little bit of a red. you more orange left over here. but early bay fog clearing out cool lower 80's to 60's to the coast of depends on where you are will still be a variety of microclimates early in the week. mostly sunny mild start 70's covered the bay. we got those 80's going on well inland. but it's really up to wednesday. things start flipping and temperatures start soaring after that weak little front passes tiptoes over our heads a little bit and we'll see temperatures start to spike by thursday friday. 64 san francisco, clearing and cool 68 for oakland san jose checking at about 76 wider perspective. we have into the middle 80's. it looks like in the far east bay keeping a mostly in the 70's up to the north bay peninsula 60's and 70's and 76 checking in for san jose. now we will have a look at that to 4 zone forecast to see those microclimates checking in and also what shaken what the tropics, including and rain along the eastern us noel. >> for your health this

morning. stress is often high at the beginning of the school year as daily routines are new their hectic and of course, stressful all resulting in the inability to get a good night's sleep. when you cut down on total sleep time. studies show it can result in over eating weight gain and worse yet increased mortality. our health expert karen a walk here with some practical tips this morning so that we can get more and better sleep. good morning to you, karen. i know especially not even just the students. who are, you know, they're scheduled to changing. but mom and dad, those schedules are changing too. >> right right. it's it's it's a really difficult period right now because there's so many different changes changes in scheduling. so try just try to stay on some type of schedule. and, you know, a lot of people think that once you lose sleep, we really can't catch up. but you really you can you create the debt just try and add a little bit more hours of sleep. if you can,
7:19 am
because if you can't, you just going fall deeper and deeper into sleep debt. fidel. also try and work out during the daytime. a lot of a lot of us try and squeeze in our workouts. at the end of the day because that's when we have tied. the kids are settled out of the homework done. but that can also energize you so that could make that could get you more riled for going to bed. and that's the time when you really want to to tone it down. well, and that's why you suggest stretching before bed. stretching is one of the best things because throughout the day with poor posture just tension sitting at the computer or whatever it is you do your muscles get really short and and and that's it. i don't know if you ever notice your shoulders getting up, going up, higher and higher throughout the day with muscles really need to relax.
7:20 am
and we have these trigger points that are in our shoulders that trap easiest muscle and they get very not it. and you really want to try and relieve that that will really help you sleep better and my tip is take your 2 fingers and play some in those lives knots in your shoulders. >> and then rule. >> your arm around. and this is one way to give yourself a could you don't always have someone there to give you one. but if you do, this is one way to get really into those knots and give yourself your own miss trying it right now and it actually feels thing that i have really been swearing by over the last several months is wearing a sleep mask. the whole total darkness. think really, really help to minds waited too, which really helps. >> well, we i love the sleep mask because i'm not one to really. if people that know
7:21 am
me, i don't get a lot of sleep. so, yeah. once i put that mask on it really does help because they gland in the brain when it senses complete darkness, then it starts releasing more melatonin. and so that's going to help you actually fall asleep. try try the sleep just give it a try because it really does work. and as people get older, the melatonin is not released as as well as they get older. whatever you can do to 2 yeah. you said sleeping, not, you know, naturally falling asleep. it's really helpful. some people i know we'll try things like zeke will or, you know, other night time medicines to help them. but you're saying to kind of try and avoid those. yeah. try to avoid those try do it. naturally it. the lavender is also very helpful if you have a live diffuser lavender essential oils and then also put that on your pillow. it's
7:22 am
really nice. they they do that with babies to try and get them relaxed that the left, the lavender essential oil that the synthetic. fragrances. it has to be that essential oil. it's all natural. i do want to skip down to naps because i'm like a master napper, but that means might end up being like 2 hours sometimes which isn't necessarily an app anymore. >> right. right. you want to try and keep its to about 1520, routes. it's starting to cut into your night time sleeping and that could start pushing your your bed. time to later because you've had so much sleep in the afternoon. >> so. >> try to keep those to a minimum, ok and talk to me about sleep thieves. oh, sleep fees would be caffeine. and also because caffeine the the half-life of caffeine at meaning net is about 5 to 6 hours, meaning that the potency of that caffeine last,
7:23 am
you know, half of it is still in your in 5 to 6 hours. so think about that. if you're constantly drinking coffee, even if you stop drinking it at 2 in the afternoon. if you're always doing the coffee, it's it's just never leaves your system so that can that can rock you sleep. also some of the pain medications because caffeine increases the effectiveness of the pain reliever. so, you know, check your medicines to make sure that that does it's doesn't have caffeine in it. so taking a love bite of right before bed is probably not the best thing for >> there are in all at no, that's not the all right. so big take away, you just really need to establish a new habit and practice when it comes to getting ready for bed and eventually falling asleep. >> yeah. and try and incorporate these habits with your children, too.
7:24 am
>> so not just you didn't get them in these these habits, trying try and you know, have some type of routine before you go to bed, not try to relax the minute you hit the pillow, you know, start that routine before a couple hours before. so you don't want to be checking your e-mails right before you go to bed and all don't write yourself a. all karen, thanks for all the tips. appreciate it. yeah. well done. it.

all the weather systems. we do see a weak one that's going to drop on passed by the middle of the weekend. only delays this heat spike coming our way towards week said lower 60's line up the east bay shoreline for now, 59 for concord. lots of 50's up in the north bay. 57 going on for san francisco in 60 san jose. but these high temperatures to be in the upper 70's to through the 80's 67 at 11 o'clock by 2. we're talking 79 as we reach again, the 80's by this afternoon and pretty much the same for monday, tuesday before things start to flip coming up in a bit. of course, the 4 zone forecast the extended and what's going on with all these tropical systems. well. >> thanks, dave. turning to our wildfire coverage now evacuation orders are in effect for more than a 1000 people as wildfires continue to rage across northern california. let's start with the biggest fire burning in the state right now. the dixie fire, the latest numbers from cal fire put it at nearly 717,000 acres burned. 36% contained this morning. more
7:33 am
than 1200 buildings have been destroyed by flames from this fire. and 3 1st responders have been hurt. now that one might be the biggest but it's not the only one. crews are still working around the clock to contain the fast-moving caldor fire in eldorado county as well that one jumped highway 50 near kai burgers which forced crews to shut down a 40 mile stretch of the highway between sly park road near pollack, pines and myers. we do have a live picture from highway 50 at echo summit this morning. winds from the south helping to flames from the fire prompting even more evacuations. we're just making sure that the highway is safe for motors to travel pie and we don't want any fire actually in shooting anyone's on travel. >> so far the fire has burned more than 90,000 acres and it is still 0% contained this morning. >> for a closer look at the firefight near slide park. we turn now to gurajpal sangha.
7:34 am
>> it was all hands on deck through the air saturday evening as crews try to slow down the in aerial saw along highway 50 near outer creek road just west of chi burr's. hopefully we can get it contained and stopped just before the attack as time passed flames, grew larger and larger over the ridge near that area. the flowing down the fire for crews and protecting homes. the caldor fire was able to jump over highway 50. you can see a small spot fire right there on the rich. but the palm is that ridge is so steep, which makes it difficult for crews to get up there. you can just see how smoky it is in the area and that is limiting aircraft from putting that fire >> it appears that an ember that was thrown from the main fire. so we have crews that are currently scouting the area. i'm trying to find a way that we can get the ground crews in half are, as robert

foxworthy says, the strong winds helped the fire spread in the northeast direction towards highway 50. while they hope the fire doesn't spread any more. he tells fox 40 dr prepared as davis signed a lot of resources to highway 50 to stop the rest of the fire from jumping. we've done considerable amount of prep work over the last few days because that's kind of what we projected with this northeasterly movement of the fire and the southern portion of the fire. also slightly expanded. fox footy hope things get better in the days ahead. so hopefully that will help us when it comes to weather conditions. >> meanwhile, the cache fire has not stopped officers with north bay animal services from racing up there to look for any lost pets and officer found a dog alive attached to a chain after she first believed the job was dead. the officer says she was able to walk the dog to her truck and get him to safety. >> i was able to like slowly

talked to him and pet him and was able to get his chain off. and then after that, he kind of you could just tell he was gaining more and more trust. and i was able to pet can't. >> soon after the officer found a second dog huddled in a whole both of those dogs were taken to the clear lake animal shelter where it was discovered. they have the same owner. the officer says pet owners should always prepare for these types of situations where they may need to evacuate by always having leashes and a crate ready to go. now as those wildfires continue to burn across the state. first responders are reminding everyone to be prepared in case of another disaster fires have already destroyed homes in lake county and in eldorado county in the sierra forcing many to flee with just the clothes on their back and preparation. the sonoma county sheriff's office released evacuation zone maps back in 2020 after back to back devastating fire since 2017 to find your evacuation zone. all you have to do is type in your address or zip

7:46 am
impact. it's going to be concentrated very much in new england like that. so it won't make landfall. technically as a hurricane, but as a tropical storm. meanwhile, what was grace of any fashion as now drifted into the pacific and it's now a disorganized lump of tropical stuff, if you will. they're monitoring. this is the course, the hurricane center. good news with all of this is no matter what it becomes its track still sends it out to the pacific kind of the middle nowhere and the impact is not really going to impact much to the north. that means couple saint lucas is pretty much in the get some minor cloud cover for this, maybe get some showers. but all the bulk of this is going to stay south, including the southwest us. sometimes the system's control lot of moisture up our way even after they strike mexico as well, which we got some of that moisture as recall from last august in terms of the monsoon mixed in with all of that. not going to happen. this go-around. meanwhile, temperatures on the home front lower. 60's line up the east bay shoreline up in the north bay 50's 57 san francisco 60.
7:47 am

9:19 am
try and squeeze in our workouts. at the end of the day because that's when we have tied. the kids are settled out of the homework done. but that can also energize you so that could make that could get you more riled for going to bed. and that's the time when you really want to to tone it down while and that's why you suggest stretching before bed. stretching is one of the best things because throughout the day with poor posture just tension sitting at the computer or whatever it is you do your muscles get really short and and and that's it. i don't know if you ever notice your shoulders getting up, going up, higher and higher throughout the day with muscles really need to relax and we have these trigger points that are in our shoulders that trapeze the u.s. muscle and they get very not it. and you really want to try and relieve that that will really help you sleep better

9:21 am
melatonin. and so that's going to help you can actually fall asleep. so try try the sleep just give it a try because it really does work. and as people get older, the melatonin is not released as as well as they get older. whatever you can do to 2 yeah. you said sleeping, not, you know, naturally falling asleep. it's really helpful. some people i know we'll try things like zeke will or, you know, other night time medicines to help them. but you're saying to kind of try and avoid those. yeah. try to avoid those try to do it. naturally it. the lavender is also very helpful if you have a live diffuser lavender essential oils and then also put that on your pillow. it's really nice. they they do that with babies to try and get them relaxed that the lab, the lavender essential oil that the synthetic. fragrances. it
9:22 am
has to be that essential oil. it's all natural. i do want to skip down to naps because i'm like a master napper, but that means might end up being like 2 hours sometimes which isn't necessarily an app anymore. right. right. you want to try and keep its to about 1520, routes. it's starting to cut into your night time sleeping and that could start pushing your your bed time to later because you've had so much sleep in the afternoon. so try to keep those to a minimum, ok and talk to me about sleep thieves. oh, sleep fees would be caffeine. and also because caffeine the the half-life of caffeine at meaning net is about 5 to 6 hours, meaning that the potency of that caffnine last. >> you know, half of it is still in your in 5 to 6 hours. so think about that. if you're constantly drinking coffee, even if you stop drinking it
9:23 am
at 2 in the afternoon. if you're always doing the coffee, it's it's just never leaves your system so that can that can rob you sleep. also some of the pain medications because caffeine increases the effectiveness of the pain reliever. so, you know, check your medicines to make sure that that does it's doesn't have caffeine in it. so taking bite of right before bed is probably not the best thing for here. >> they are in all at no, that's not the all right. so big take away. you just really need to establish a new habit and practice when it comes to getting ready for bed and eventually falling asleep. >> yeah. and try incorporate these habits with your children, too. >> so not just you didn't get them in these these habits, trying try and you know, have some type of routine before you go to bed, not try to relax the minute you hit the
