conditions start to cool a little bit early in the week and then towards the end of the week. something interesting starts to happen, but also going to come with some problems of the mountains. it will get to that a bit right now. winds, as we see calm conditions over most of the real estate. but usually with daytime heating. we get the onshore winds will get that. but the won't be as strong as it tends to be because we have sort of like the brakes being applied. the high pressure cell. it just doesn't allow things to move much. you're pretty much stuck with the air that you've got futurecast for and the short term going forward. as i mentioned, we'll see some overnight clouds develop here a little bit. yeah. they have little impact on temperatures and so forth. but the real concern of this cloud. the this cloud cover coming from the southwest to sometimes coming up from the south like this. mid-level layers like this that can sometimes role at some instability. not not so much overnight but during the day, as we get some heating tomorrow. and as you can see, this lingers all the way till tuesday. so something kind of in the corner of her eye. we're watching a little bit for indication of some dry lightning longer term. now, we

talked about cooling off. you'll see that on the seven-day forecast and we get to thursday friday. interesting. some of the moisture is coming in from the southeast that will be into the mountains in the sierra that could be some thunder showers, but also some moisture coming in from the northwest. that's the good type of moisture. even if we get just a little bit of a good stratus little shower for many that just a little bit. it's enough to kind of moisten up the ground doing drought. but at least help kind of, you know, moist in the ground level there. not because such a tender box with that. so there's 2 different types of moisture. look out for. and it's that one from the southeast that is problematic 100 for bakersfield, one '02 for fresno. so really bacon and central valley expect the same tomorrow. 70 to san francisco in 87 for san diego in your 4 zone forecast. we're talking 72 for san francisco 60's cover a lot of the looks like 79 for burlingame and here we've got the 80's popping up here and you can see in the southern end of the peninsula. 84 that allowed 86 for redwood city in the south bay 87 san jose also santa

>> welcome back. 8.44 here. dave spahr is over in the weather center tracking that fog that we've been seeing today before it burns off so that we can have a nice and hot labor day week. nice and and hot. so you don't let you don't like calling at night. will sizzle says >> yeah, i guess it all the time of year. we'll have to get it. you know, upper 90's going on another day of we'll do this again tomorrow. the one thing is we're kind of on the periphery of a lot of traffic going on in and around us, if you will, the monsoon, the southeast these little fronts that are trying to penetrate from the northwest. we get a lot of them. the winter months be nice. if we can see one kind of make its way through. give us a little stratus rain. here's the fog is we're in the middle. there's a shot of what it looks like at half moon, bay overcast skies firmly in place for right now. that will clear out and we're going to mostly sunny mode temperatures of the coast. not too bad. you know, in around 70, if you're lucky there. meanwhile, the air quality, which is looking moderate to poor in some cases up around carson city. can see
8:46 am
the north as we go across central valley couple pockets of very poor here and there. but it's mostly moderate. we get to the bay area, we start to break out with some good down here. the south and up to the north problem is have like a good clean, a vent, a weather front with nice kind of clean things up here for us and even our service winds will get some more wins this afternoon with inland heating, but we don't get as much as we typically do we probably won't as we get into tonight, we do see some scattered clouds marching on by the big concern is of some nocturnal dry thunder showers. just a couple strikes or so forth that could be enough to be a problem. but it's more upstream. that's kind of something interesting to watch as this blows on by. we should go into mostly sunny moton technically it may cost us a degree or 2 with all of that going forward. but from our standpoint, that's mostly cosmetic. okay. now some of these droplets here. that's because of some of the marine layer the cause coastal drizzle. we can handle that. that's fine. now upstream. once we get past all that. look towards the end all going and freeze it. some of the
8:47 am
monsoon comes bubbling up. that can be a problem that you see in the sierra that can be lightning. now, that may come with you know, decent rain to with the same time. so the rain, the good, the lightning, the bad. so unfortunately that may be a little bit of a monsoon. they got to watch about in the mountains. these are these fronts i keep talking about that. don't really make a nice plow through. they just kind of tease this out to the sea a little bit and we don't really get the full effects of a little early in the season to get that. but if we get some of that influence. we might get the good type of rain and ice will bit of a stratus rate. even that doesn't do much for our drought. and should just kind of cover up the vegetation, get a little bit of a rat wag rag on top of it will be nice and we head into the next weekend somewhat on eventually temperatures pop over the century mark in the central valley today. 72 going big bear. okay. 4 zone forecast comes in like this. 72 san francisco upper 60's line up along the coast burlingame at 79 looks about
8:48 am
82 for foster city. san carlos 8584 for palo alto in the south bay 87 san jose. also milpitas santa clara 88 for cupertino. and it's even mid 80's along the east bay shoreline tri valley in the upper 90's getting around 100 there for danville and walnut creek. this cloud cover business tomorrow may technically rob us of a couple of degrees out there, maybe tomorrow, 75 for berkeley. 76 vallejo. 95 still fairfield. you can see central valley still warm 87 going on for a nap and santa rosa 91. so we do correct the temperatures later in the week after labor day. we fall through the 80 so the balance of the week. but there come those interesting skies on friday into saturday with that little front in our backyard and some of the monsoon bubbling up towards are southeast. >> for a lot of people labor day means 3 things a day off the end of summer and a backyard barbecue. but why is the first monday in september called labor day. it seems it's one of those holidays where the meaning has been lost over the years. but our
8:49 am
health expert walk is here to explain. it has some ways to make it a little bit more meaningful. karen, thanks for joining with us. joining us here today. i guess let's start with why is it called labor day. >> labor day. this is something i learned to noel. so labor day was originated was established in 1894 to pay tribute to the american worker and to celebrate their achievements. something probably do every day. but but that's the that's the reason why it's called labor day. i feel it's something you don't really learn when you're a kid in school. i don't remember learning about why it was called labor day. i just knew it was day off of school right how can we pay tribute to the american worker. well, number one, i i suggest going on a little. >> label reading mission and start looking at some of the products that are actually

made in the usa. you know, go when you go to the store going through your closet, going to products in your house going to the mall. look at things that are made in the usa and start supporting in buying those products and if you a gift yeah. you start putting together your christmas list and seek out american made things i see on your list or you have a few of the different companies that we should maybe think about. >> levi's gerber baby. you have apple on here. i know that all of our apple products are made in china. but you put it here on this list talking about why. >> these are products that are iconic. you know, their iconic american brands. you know, think of levi's levi's r. you know, they're one of the most brands in america at all in 19 in 2019, they. >> they outsource almost all of their manufacturing outside
8:51 am
is america. >> so, you know, have to kind of think about some of these products. >> you think that their american-made, but a lot of it is outsourced. same with apple. lot of the. >> manufacturing is done in china. however, a lot of the innovation is all done here. >> and go know you go gerber. you know, we gerber is the all american baby food. >> and what was really interesting to find out is that they are manufacturing in china and a lot of baby products are contained. rice, rice cereals and so they are also using ce of rice. that is grown in china. one of the things i tell my patients and tell my classes is that stay away from rice grown in china because of the high levels of arsenic. a lot of the foods are growing china just be
8:52 am
aware because of the toxic environment. there are a lot of heavy hetals that settle in the soil that's in the air. so i would be very, you know, really be careful and read those labels carefully when you buy anything that you eat particularly. >> i think that's something that we can all kind of take away from this today is we should pay a little bit more attention to what we're putting our money towards. >> oh, absolutely. and then baseball the all american past time the major league baseball's are made not in the usa. they're made in coast rica. it's a little disappointing, but, you know, if you can find products that are made in the usa those are the ones to really support. all right. walk, thanks as always for the tips. we appreciate it. >> you're welcome. ste you next week. all right. we'll be right back.

9:00 am
again on noel. and tomorrow we expect more of the same of those little wrinkle of some scattered clouds developing tonight and into tomorrow. >> this is mid-level moisture and not the kind we want to see because that could be sometimes problematic that air gets too excited and so forth. we have dry lightning issues with all of that. but for right now we have the low level moisture were negotiating through. it's the fog that's starting to clear out in many locations. but we're still seeing some overcast looks like at the bay bridge toll plaza, although the sunshine is getting a little brighter there. there's the golden gate. it's pretty much shrouded in the fog for right now. temperature check 60's for a lot of the east bay as we see the sun doing its thing 50's for the peninsula. 64 half moon, bay and 51 coming in for santa rosa. it's more spotty in terms lf the temperature change little bit warmer this morning than yesterday will probably do the same again tomorrow with the cloud cover. a couple degrees ahead. in fact, some cases a half a dozen degrees or better ahead. let's try 89 by 1 o'clock at 4 o'clock at 95 high temperatures reaching the upper 90's to near 100. we'll take a look at that cloud

the air from the fires. technically could cost us a couple degrees on our highs today. here's what we're looking at in terms of the golden gate. it's still shrouded in all that fog. it's still lingering around a bit. but the pollution is what we're talking about in terms of that air quality, of course, up in the mountains. it's pretty bad. that's because that's where the source of a lot of it is we have pockets here of poor with extend. as you can see, that's the most of the base that you see going on here in a couple pockets. so what we're good quality down to the southern this go around. not so and up to santa rosa, this is lies were take a look at the live imagery now. what helps us out as we get a front. we mix up the air a little bit. that doesn't look real role. likely this scattered cloud cover that's more the middle layers of the atmosphere. it's the monsoon type moisture. it looks to be pretty benign from our standpoint but problematic in terms of it sometimes can cause instability. that means dry lightning or elevated thunder showers temperature check. we have upper 50's lighting up the east bay shoreline antioch at 70 to 51

more about that potential rain that we might see later this week. well, there's actually not an agreement on models on up. but there is one run is interesting about all this thing is it's 2 types of moisture. that's kind of that work. >> one of them is that's that monsoon that may fill up up in the sera little bit. that will be thursday friday. >> and into saturday a little bit from our vantage point, though, some of that may venture out to the bay area to but hopefully a front that's arriving to that would be nice to bring us bit of a stratus rain to basically kind of a drizzle that we get. but just on steroids a bit to get actually little shop are going on. here's the overcast that we have right now at half moon, bay. this remains in place that'll break up probably in the late morning hours and going to a mostly sunny mode for the afternoon. but our air quality. that's another nice benefit from it. if we can get a decent rain out of this. we have moderate to poor quality. as you can see, up in the mountains. it's moderate across the central valley with pockets of bad air and then up to the north as actual pocket of some good
9:46 am
air. but all in all, it's pretty much moderate going on in with a high pressure in place like the shuttle get a lot of air motion at all. even with daytime heating right now, the winds, as you can see, calm to single digits for this. our future cast for as little bit about. we're talking about. first. that's for tonight. tomorrow. this is the moisture coming in from the southwest. this is basically some of the leftover monsoon were on the basic west side of this high. so we have a little front in our backyard kind of dropping south that's going help encourage an on shore flow. bring down those temperatures high pressure breaks down all those things in place. but it's hard really bring us anything in terms of rain. the concern here is with this upper level air mass is that with this. we can get some instability and dry lightning. that's what the big concern of it is not going overnight and it still lingers a little bit on monday, too as a fact besides cosmetic in the skies a bit and they actually costs are forecast highs a little bit on monday because of that interference. let's get long-range for. we get past monday and tuesday. alright. then later in the
9:47 am
week we see more of a resurgence of the monsoon. this is the kind of bad air that we don't like. that's up there in the mountains and that maybe thunder showers only plus with that as we might get some rain actually hitting the ground and there's some disagreement on models with a little front or back yard. this is a good type of rain. if we can get anything out of it. that will be thursday friday and into next saturday. if that comes to pass a besides just coastal showers or something to really get something across the bay. and although it's not going to be anything that would help the drought and all it would at least moisten up the ground, not make it so tender and so sensitive is we are right now temperatures in the central valley to fresno. 100 for bakersfield, 97 for sacramento 72 san francisco in 88 san diego. so looking at your 4 zone forecast for this sunday. 72 san francisco. we've got the upper 60's along the coast here 79 for burlingame to the south. we're seeing the 80 still hold on. san carlos 8584 for palo alto and 80 from mountain view in the south bay 87 san jose also
9:48 am
for santa clara. but 97 morgan hill 93 for los gatos 88 for cupertino east bay shoreline to the south, mid 80's upper 90's going on for tri valley. 100 for danville 99 for walnut creek 75 for berkeley. 76 for vallejo, 87 for napa in 91 going on for santa rosa. 7 day forecast we see temperatures drop as we talked about here getting to friday. yeah, that's where things get interesting. we'll keep a cloud pop in there for right now. but we may not see anything more of that going on and temperatures falling to the manger of the week. >> for a lot of people labor day means 3 things a day off the end of summer at a backyard barbecue. but why is the first monday in september called labor day. it seems it's one of those holidays where the meaning has been lost over the years. but our health expert walk is here to explain. it has some ways to make it a little bit more meaningful. karen, thanks for joining with us. joining us here today. i guess let's start with why is it called labor day.
9:49 am
>> labor day. this is something i learned to noel so labor day was originated was established in 1894 to pay tribute to the american worker and to celebrate their achievements. something probably do every day. but but that's the that's the reason why it's called labor day. i feel it's something you don't really learn when you're a kid in school. i don't remember learning about why it was called labor day. i just knew it was day off of school right how can we pay tribute to the american worker. well, number one, i i suggest going on a little. >> label reading mission and start looking at some of the products that are actually made in the usa, you know, go when you go to the store going through your closet, going to products in your house going to the mall. look at things that are made in the usa and
9:50 am
start supporting in buying those products. and if you a gift yeah. you start putting together your christmas list and seek out american made things i see on your list or you have a few of the different companies that we should maybe think about. >> levi's gerber baby. you have apple on here. i know that all of our apple products are made in china. but you put it here on this list talking about why. >> these are products that are iconic. you know, their iconic american brands. you know, think of levi's levi's r. you know, they're one of the most brands in america at all in 19 in 2019 they they outsource almost all of their manufacturing outside is america. so, you know, have to kind of think about some of these products. you think that their american-made, but a lot of it is outsourced. same with apple. lot of the
9:51 am
manufacturing is done in china. however, a lot of the innovation is all done here. and go know you go to a group or. >> gerber. you know, we gerber is the all american baby food. >> and what was really interesting to find out is that they are manufacturing in china and a lot of baby products are contained. rice, rice cereals and so they are also using ce of rice. that is grown in china. one of the things i tell my patients until my classes is that stay away from rice grown in china because of the high levels of arsenic. a lot of the foods going into china just be aware because of the toxic environment. there are a lot of heavy metals that settle in the soil that's in the air. so i would be very, you know, really be careful and read those labels carefully when
9:52 am
you buy anything that to eat, particularly, i think that's something that we can all kind of take away from this today is we should pay a little bit more attention to what we're putting our money towards. >> oh, absolutely. and then baseball the all american past time the major league baseball's are made not in the usa. they're made in coast rica. it's a little disappointing, but, you know, if you can find products that are made in the usa those are the ones to really support. all right. walk, thanks as always for the tips. we appreciate it. >> you're welcome. see you next week. all right. we'll be right back.
