the blue skies i was referring to earlier. so looking good air quality by the way, is could over most of the region. by the way. meanwhile, what's a half moon bay still dealing with the overcast skies of the fog give that a few more hours to clear out. but the oakland a's today versus the rangers game time. one '07, temps mid 60's. so a little bit of a breeze. well, add a chill. so definitely need a sweater on that tricky for coming in from the east bay where feels much warmer today. right now 73 antioch 60's for a lot of the east bay in the north bay 60's and 50's mixture breaking today down as things start to break out nicely the bay bridge toll plaza. look at the shadows of the cars. even the clustering sun off the windshield, 80 coming in at 1 o'clock by 4. we're talking 84 coming up a little bit. of course, your 4 zone forecast. >> september 11 change the world. >> let's think through their actions today. so that this does not spiral out of control.

>> 20 years ago. it seemed as though the bubble of the new millennia in america was popped pierced by planes that crashed at the twin towers. a rural pennsylvania field and the pentagon a loss of life that shook us to our core and still shakes us each year sense. we all remember where we were and what we were doing on that day. east bay congresswoman barbara lee was at the u.s. capitol when the pentagon was hit nearby. she joins us now to talk a little bit about that day and share how she remembers 9.11 and all that's followed sense. thank you so much for joining us. congresswoman. thank you very much. nice being with you. definitely how are you feeling today. 20 years later. well, today is very somber it's a day for reflection. >> and in many the country including mice. that was we're still grieving of the lives lost. the the longstanding health impacts of the first responders. our troops, the

communities that were hit by these or if the terrorist attacks that i think today we all need to just stop and reflect and understand 20 years ago we lost so so many black person in this country was for forever changed. i want to also remember one degree, one, there was a flight attendant on flight 93 has she is the cause of my former chief of staff from dray swanson and i was sitting in the capital that morning and we were to evacuate right away. we did not know what was taking place, but i looked behind me as i ran up app and you can get saw the smoke coming from the pentagon still didn't know what happened. but later we learned that flight 93 more than likely it was coming into the capitol. and so today i'm thinking specially of those heroes on flight 93 who has saved many lives because they took plane down. it's a for me personally

grief many of us is still feeling recognizing we we have to move forward. but that's still there with me still there saunders family want his family is still there with so many who lost their lives. i was very reluctant initially to do that. also just schedule and on capitol hill my district is is very. hectic. and i wasn't sure i should there be part of but i'm glad i did because i was able to talk about my experiences that day and fast forward to january 6. once again. i was sitting there in congress and had to evacuate going through tears know that domestic tears were coming into the capitol to try to kill all members of congress, speaker pelosi and and so these harrowing experiences, a sear it in my in my heart my brain oftentimes we left him to talk about it. but if i can share my feelings by motions. my love for people like hearing
9:36 am
to keep them on our troops out of harm's way then i felt like in my staff me to go into. >> it was very, very well done. the docu i was 12 years old when the terror attacks happened so my understanding of all that it meant why it happened and the reasons that the subsequent war happened. we're all very as as a young person, obviously over the years i've learned so much more about. >> the instances in you. voted no to go ahead and say no on the war in afghanistan. i feel like. >> learning that just watching this docu series. how difficult that must have been for you to go ahead and vote away from both anyone in the house and the senate. would you vote that way again. >> let me tell you what i and today also i'm thinking about our troops, the troops leave
9:37 am
loss. the afghan of people. the collateral damage to the civilians who were killed. the refugees. and saying to myself, you know, this is the moment we have to thank our troops. and so we're actually because they were sent into harm's way. they did everything this country asked them to do and we and our veterans deserve every bit of our support in terms of health care out and ensure their economic security. voted against that authorization it was the right vote because that authorization was 16 words and it was a blank check. it was overly broad and it allowed any think president bush. but in a subsequent president to go to war without coming back to congress. and it's our job as members of congress to represent the people current constitution and authorizes clear war. but that overly broad authorization just gave are of yeah. responsibilities over to
9:38 am
the executive branch. and that was just wrong. i if something came before me today and if we gave up our constitutional right. the people's voice my constituents voice on matters of war and peace. i certainly would vote against it. but that does not mean i did not believe we should bring the terrorists to justice and we did not should not respond. but 3 days after 9.14. why we remain morning while we were angry. that's not the moment to be rational and to come up with a strategy. we thought which it wasn't really was just blank check. but that was not the moment because of the nature of the emotional moment that we needed to step back. as i work take a deep breath, be thoughtfully we are and make some determinations regard to the appropriate response. whatever that may be. and evaluate the costs and consequences of that. you said, quote, september 11

9:40 am
all over the end. and so that's the memory that i hope we hold dear to our hearts in. and if you pray, i continue to pray for those families and communities. if you don't, you need to reflect. i think it's our job and duty responsibility to always remember those perished and also emergency responders are firefighters, everyone who stepped in. and i think it i listen to some of the speeches this morning. i think the lesson one of the lessons learned and we need to remember is that how we work here in country. we care each other. we sacrificed a lot for each other with lives in danger for each other. and that's something that we need to get back to recognize that even though we may have our political differences on policies partisan partisan politics course of the democrats progressive democrats. but we have
9:41 am
differences of opinion that, you know, come on. we've somehow get this country back on track to live up to its creative liberty and justice for all. and so we have remember human aspect of what took place. >> vice president harris and former president george w bush both talked about unifying and and unity here in america. not only is it essential for america to be america. but it's essential for safety as national security. and i feel that you're kind of ringing on that as well. right now you anyone can watch more of congresswoman lee here in the docu series called on netflix. it's called turning 0.5 hour long episodes. i believe you're an episode 2, 5, i'm listening to you. there was was pivotal for me and and learning so much more about what all has taken place. congresswoman lee, thank you so, so much for joining me this morning and sharing your experiences from that day 20 years ago. thank you so much. >> thank you. nice to be with you today. you too, will be right back.
