>> and possibly some rain, especially for the north bay. we could see some showers starting to roll in later tonight. let's check in on our current satellite and radar right now. you can see to the north of us. a trough. that is bringing rain to. the state's above us as well as del norte county there. let's actually zoom n so this system is going to make its way to the southeast. so later this evening, humble county will be getting some showers and we see it here on future cast. this is just before 5 o'clock today and then it shifts down to the bay area the north bay will probably see the most from this system to our a quarter of an inch of rain at the most for the higher hills, the rest of the bay area, probably about a 10th of an inch of rain or less. so i wouldn't be surprised if parts of the south bay and east bay don't even get anything from the system as it's very weekend. we see it break away there around 11 o'clock tomorrow morning and it should dry up by the evening and then

temperatures after that, we'll be getting warmer. we i am picking up a fire weather watch. actually. i'll tell you more about that coming up later in the newscast. back to >> a shocking display of violence in broad daylight. vallejo police are investigating another deadly shooting in that city. this time the shooting happened outside the black bear diner kron four's. dan thorn has the story. this horrific scene played out here in the parking lot of this black bear diner. thursday afternoon. >> this unidentified man is now the 12th homicide victim in the city of allay so far this year. and police are trying to find out who did this surveillance video captures a gunman opening fire on a car in a restaurant parking lot. the shooter using in a cave 47 style weapon to unleash a series of shots before hopping back into a getaway car and taking off. it's a very tragic set of circumstances. it's specially.

>> in broad daylight and other people may be exposed to this kind incident. boywho pd spokesperson brittany k jackson says the victim was a 38 year-old man from richmond. a makeshift memorial was seen friday where the man was sitting in a toyota prius before being shot to death. >> this comes after another man in his 20's was killed just a day before on hill born street by the information that we currently have. there is no indication that the shooting from september 15th in the shooting from yesterday afternoon were related. police are continuing to review the video captured on the black bear diners cameras overlooking the parking lot. the restaurant along admiral callaghan lane has signs posted in the windows offering condolences and notifying customers of a temporary closure art detective. >> division is small, but mighty and you know, we're doing the best we can and we want to bring justice in this case. >> the restaurant will be closed until monday. the 20th and police are still seeking more information on what happened here so far no

arrests have been made reporting in dan thorn kron 4 news. >> we go from vallejo to oakland where the police chief is boosting patrols this weekend after a recent spike in violence. police have reported 6 homicides. get this in the last 5 days, most recently a hayward man was shot and killed on thursday afternoon outside the safe. lynn supermarket in east oakland chief leronne armstrong says there will be additional officers on oakland's streets. >> all weekend long. >> in national news. now there is a rally in support of the january 6 insurrection that's expected to take place today. the biden administration is deploying national guard troops to try and secure the capitol building ahead of the gathering now far right groups are calling for justice for the hundreds of people who took part in those january 6 capitol riots. they claim the rioters are being mistreated behind bars at a press conference. members of the capitol police department said unlike the violence we saw on

>> welcome back. time now 7 '08 here on this saturday morning in a new social media challenge is calling on kids to vandalize their school bathrooms. a number of schools across the country have been reporting damages to do this. and that's why i watch what my kids watch on tiktok just to make sure is this trend noel hitting bay area schools. well, we sent kron four's charles clifford out to try to answer that question. >> well, tik tok is a social media platform where people can share short videos with each other and there is unfortunately a new challenge going around is called the devious lick challenge where kids are vandalizing their own schools stealing things shooting videos of it and then posting it online. we know it's happening. at least one school district here in the bay area. but it's also happen across the country as well. this is video from a high school in san joaquin county. this bathroom had apparently been vandalized by students participating in the devious lick challenge on tiktok. >> this smashed near was at a school in texas and this

vandalism was from another school in south carolina and the devious lick challenge has also reached schools here in the bay area on thursday, the san ramon valley unified school district sent out this message to students and parents. they say the problem has been seen at multiple schools across the district. they also include a warning saying we want to be very clear that this type of behavior will not be tolerated on any san ramon valley unified school district campus. we are very concerned about our students and the possibility that they may not fully understand the gravity of the behavior in which they are engaging. we hope that you will speak with your children and remind them that's stealing and destruction of school property or crimes if the students are caught, they will be disciplined appropriately and law enforcement will be involved. now, we do not know the extent of the problem here in the bay area. we've heard it's a different school districts. we've reached out to a couple on friday have so far not heard back. >> we do know that tick says these videos violate their community guidelines and that all of these videos will be pulled out. but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron 4 news.

yesterday santa rosa at 64 degrees. so stick around because i have the extended forecast coming up. in national news this morning. a crowd demanding answers in the search for missing 22 year-old gabby petito as officers searched the home of the young woman's fiance. >> police now say is also missing so the mystery thickens, the plot thickens per teacher was driving across the country with her fiance. brian laundrie when she went missing until now. officials say laundry and his parents have refused to cooperate with the investigation. brian entin has more on the investigation. and the police now say they've received more than 1000 tips connected to the disappearance of gabby petito, but still no sign of the 22 year-old. certainly there's been progress throughout the last 24 hours. >> and you know. i don't know

cooperated every way that i can. i wish i had information that i would give more. this is all i have is. to the >> take a look at this. a different perspective of the fight against the caldor fire near south lake tahoe, a camera was attached to a 3,000 gallon water bucket beneath a ch 47 chinook helicopter an interesting perspective as they continue to fight this fire. noel. >> firefighters are slowly getting closer to containing the caldor fire. it's burned more than 218,000 acres so far it sits at 71% containment. now more evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings throughout eldorado county. so that's some good news. meanwhile, the second largest fire in california history is still ravaging parts of 5 different counties. the dixie fire has burned more than 960,000 acres to date. it is now 88% contained, which is far more then where we were just last weekend. so that's

some good news. there. weeks or months all the wild fire fights. now during the caldor fire, fire crews were able to save a historic look out in the tahoe basin. >> by using an aluminum eyes rap garage. has the details. >> as the sun sets on the caldor fire in the lake tahoe basin. more and more people are coming back home thankful they have one to return to so many folks on the fire and we're just so thankful and so proud of the work that they >> work to protect homes and structures importantly, historic sites like this historic and gore look out above fallen leaf lake. >> covered in the luminous rap and it was the first time that i saw lights in the basin. lisa herron with the 4 service lake tahoe management says it's a technique she has seen used by the 4 service over the past few years throughout the west. but as the caldor fire moved east kuz to work to head to wrap the lookout and protected from radiant heat and embers flying a mile away from the fire. the angora

lookout was built in 1924. and this wasn't the first time a wildfire has threatened the structures. you can see the burn scars right over here. this is from the 2007 angora fight. protecting homes and other buildings with a little bit of rap is a growing trend. these homes were wrapped in the fire resistant material against the approaching caldor fire in myers the material resembles tin foil from the kitchen door. but it's actually modeled after the tent like shelters that wild land firefighters used as a last resort to protect themselves when trapped by flames. now it's a tool used to protect property and hopes survive to see another day so incredible, it's really a great tool that firefighters can use to watch a system in helping these structures to survive. >> ok, so you saw the aluminum wrapped will similar tactics are now being used to protect ancient sequoias threatened by the knp complex fire. this

photo released by sequoia and kings canyon national parks. it shows that general sherman wrapped in aluminum general sherman is the world's largest tree officials fear the fire could reach the giant forest. but experts say sequoia trees, thankfully are very fire. resistant have evolved to survive flames. the campy complex fire right now. 0% contained and has burned more than 9,000 acres. >> in the north bay to vacaville firefighters are recovering after battling this fire you see on your screen that damage to homes. crews responded to the scene just after 11 yesterday morning on marshall road, they found heavy flames coming from one of the homes reducing its garage just rubble. as you can see, it spread to the home next door as well. crews were able to contain those flames within an hour. both firefighters that were injured were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

>> and welcome back. now that governor gavin newsome is still in office after defeating the recall is proponent. the one who wanted him out of office. speaking out. that's right. his name is orrin heatlie. he spoke with kron four's capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala about any possible changes to the recall process. i'm feeling, you know. >> really good about where we've been and what we're able to achieve leed recall proponent. orrin heatlie says he's proud of the effort he put together to try to remove governor gavin newsom from office now days after the governor defeated the effort. keatley says this was not the republican recall newsom claimed it was it was a republican. >> power grab or a republican recall where were the republicans during this whole process. they sat it out and they didn't bring in big resources to the table. they didn't happen to their big donor list. >> the didn't send large quantities of money like the democrats did. some experts

we've been mentioning during the newscast. so here's our current wind conditions today. we don't really expected to increase too much. just vacaville will be a little breezy up there, but it's tomorrow night through tuesday where at times we will see those winds really picking up. so we have a fire weather watch that will be in effect. so the fire were to break out. it could spread rapidly as conditions will be very dry and our temperatures, of course, pretty warm, especially come monday in the meantime, here's a look at our current temperatures right now we're at 57 in nevado 60 in concord right now and 57 in fremont daytime high temperatures throughout the bay area won't really get to the 80's. unlike what we saw yesterday at most. we're looking at mid to upper 70's for inland areas there 71 in fremont and 61 for high in mill valley. >> happening today. the vta is resuming their fall light rail service. that's right. the

final part of the system will be re activated following the deadly mass shooting that happened back in may down there kron four's, camila barco joining us live now in san jose with more on the reopening. good morning. camila. >> good morning all. and we'll see at the vta light rail system is back on track. the green line here at dura. dot station is up and running as and as noel said, it's the last part of the light rail system to be re activated. the vta has been bringing back service over the last few months. gradually after the deadly mass shooting back in may and has a 5 this morning at the green line from the dear god station to the winchester station is fully operational. the orange line reopened august 29th and the blue line fully reopened in september. so it's been a slow process, but the vta has been focusing on their workers and their well being. that deadly

shooting as a deal through the grief of losing 9 co-workers at the rail yard the vta wants to thank their passengers for being patient. they say their employees are still grieving, but most are glad to be back at work providing service now a heads up if you're using the blue line trains from that bay point to the santa teresa station will run from 5 in the morning to midnight during the weekdays. every 20 minutes until 8 at night. the trains will then run every 30 to 45 minutes after that, the green and orange lines, orange lines schedules are from 05:30am in the morning until midnight on weekdays every 20 minutes. it's then a 30 minute in trouble after 08:00pm until until closing. so as of this morning, the vta light rail system is fully operational. once again. and the vta will be providing free fares for passengers using the light rail system through september

actually take a look futurecast. we see that system shifting south east. this is around 05:30pm. it will be down to about mendocino county, humboldt county at that time. and then it shifts further overnight is when the north bay, the hills will get about a quarter of an inch of and the rest of the bay area about a 10th of an inch of rain or less. some parts of the south east bay might not even see anything from the system. so tomorrow morning this is right before or right after about noon time. you see the system just weekends and continues to shift over to the east there and it dries up a sunday evening. looking dry for the bay area. this is around 5.30, tomorrow night. so temperatures right now in the upper 50's in hayward right now. 60 in concord 57 in fairfield 55 in petaluma right now and almost 60 degrees in nevado. so here's a look at our this afternoon for inland areas. >> as you can see, we don't expect hit the 80's, unlike what we saw yesterday. in

they're light rail system will reactivate. the vta has been gradually bringing back service over the last few months after the deadly mass shooting back in may as a 5 this morning. the green line from the deer dot station to the winchester station is fully operational. the orange line reopened back in august in august and the blue line was fully working again in september. now it's been a slow process, bringing back service. but the vta has spent the past few months focusing on their workers. they've been dealing with the grief of losing 9 co-workers at the rail yard eta representatives want to thank their passengers for being patient and they say employees are still mourning, but most are glad to be back at work providing service now a heads up if you're using the blue line trains from the bay point to the santa teresa station run from 05:00am to midnight during the weekdays. they'll come around every 20 minutes until 8 at night. the
