containment line and then started spreading to 150 acres. that's right. and back away. shuns have been issued orders are in effect right now for 4 zones. and the area. >> those are communities that sat right up against mount madonna county park. another zone more to the north in the summit area is only under an evacuation warning right now. but that means people there in that yellow shaded area need to be prepared to evacuate if those flames do inch closer, the red cross has set up an evacuation center at the car leto's community church. we have the address listed there on your screens. it's listed on our website as well. kron four's camila barco is on her way down there this morning. she's going to bring us a live report in about 30 minutes with the very latest there on the estrada fire. >> in santa barbara county highway one oh, one along the got vo tow sock got togs skews me coastline is back open in both directions following its closure because of the fire. the fire burned nearly 17,000 acres. and so far this

morning, 41% contained. the railway parallel to one o one is reopened and amtrak's pacific surfliner in coast starlight. they're expected to resume service in both directions. probably sometime this morning. 3 homes were destroyed, including one abandoned house and a mobile home. >> some stunning video from the san joaquin valley. this is the knp complex fire that's burning in sequoia and kings canyon national parks containment has jumped to 45% after nearly 1500 firefighters responded to this brush fire burned about 88,000 acres so far crews have been trying to save the sequoia trees in the area by wrapping them with a certain type of 10 foil that can withstand high heat. but sadly the fire did burn at least 2 giant sequoia groves. turning now to our coronavirus coverage this morning. an fda

panel is endorsing booster. shots of the johnson and johnson vaccine. the panel voted to approve the shot for americans 18 and older at least 2 months after immunization. that same panel is still debating whether people who qualify for boosters can mix and match their vaccine brands, though some studies have shown doing so is safe and effective. >> many americans are taking matters into their own hand that i'm reading in the media that people are getting boosters or make things different. from there. you know, primary care providers or by not revealing what they got before. so i think it's a matter of some urgency for fda help sort out what is admittedly a complicated and challenging scenario. >> there is mounting evidence that people who received the johnson johnson vaccine could benefit more from a pfizer did a moderna booster. one study suggests those people had a greater increase in antibody levels when they got the pfizer or moderna booster as opposed to a j and j booster.

>> marin county also starting easing mask and mask requirements yesterday. it is now following the same rules as san francisco in contra. costa county says it will be begin lifting its mask mandate sometime next month in berkeley workers at some businesses will now have to show proof that they have been fully vaccinated and that applies to employees at restaurants bars theaters, gyms and other fitness studios. the rule also applies to workers at any indoor event with more than a 1000 people and all public and private child care facilities. >> happening today, the pleasanton unified school district is offering free rapid antigen tests for students attending homecoming this weekend. the clinic is from 10:00am until noon. it's going to be at the school district's health services building on abby street and appointment is required here. a link to register is on the school district's website. >> and in the east bay, the city of oakland launched its new covid community clinic in

the ballpark. the city of alameda will decide if he wants to sign the letter at its meeting on tuesday. then the letter will pre be presented to the alameda county board of supervisors on october 26th. >> the leader of california's largest labor union is facing possible prison time former california s e i u leader alma hernandez and her husband have been booked into the sacramento county jail they're both accused of tax fraud and in moment, kron four's ashley zavala explains what's next for the couple. >> and so my within a matter of days i had none. this went from leading california's largest workers union to being booked into the sacramento county jail following an arraignment friday the former executive director of california's service employees international union and her husband jose moscoso were taken into custody. adnan this and moscoso each face multiple felony charges including tax fraud, embezzlement and perjury. the state attorney general's office says an

that containment has grown this morning. yes. >> yeah, well, we're all right grown a little bit. yes, 10% is what i'm being told and i'm currently at the santa county fairgrounds for cal fire officials of have met this morning to talk a little bit about that progress. and with me is and larkin. he is the unit for the cal fire santa cruz san mateo area. so talk to me a little bit about that containment. and in just the progress that you guys have made overnight. >> last night. our crews are out on the line and made a really good progress. they were actually able to put a hose line around the entire perimeter of the fire and they were able to put control lines, primary control where we actually a script remember us for good portion of the fire. but this morning are concentrations going to be can connect to the rest of those dots to make sure that control line is a 100% in place. >> and at last check what i the fire had burned a 150 is

that number still the same. or has it grown. >> we're estimating it's anywhere from a 10250 acres today. we're going to concentrate on getting the some folks out taxi ground truth that where we actually have them walk the perimeter. so we have a better idea of the exact acreage of what is actually burned. and let's go back to how this all just about 24 hours ago. cal fire was during a prescribed burn. soaking talk a little bit about. >> how that started where we are now. yes, fire participate. so with property owners and vegetation management program where we do feel reduction burns on private property with the cooperation of the property owner and yesterday and we were conducting one of those the burn was scheduled to be between 1520 acres. >> depending what our success was. and that right towards the we a little bit of a slop over. i'm outside primary containment line. that created a a fire that was got into some receptive fuel and that outpace the resources that we had a sign of the times that we ought minute. i brought an aircraft and we went to no you

to get this thing under at that time. >> and have there been any homes threatened. i know you guys have evacuation orders in place. so where are where you guys got to this morning with that. >> so this morning we're going to be talking with the sheriff's department on a repopulation of the areas that we evacuated last night. those are just in the event that the it still contained within on the vegetation now. but we're working with the sheriff's part of this morning to try to get folks back into the residence as soon as possible. >> and have there been any homes damage and structures damaged. any chance. >> no structures damaged at this time of the fire is burning in the wild land. there are some threaten structures at and we took those precautionary just to to make sure we got people out of the way in the event that that we had a rapidly expanding event. >> and i know that there was a community was open for the public to go overnight. i mean, is that still open are words that span.

shoulder evacuation orders are in effect as fire crews try to get the fire under control. that's right. the fires, 10% contained right now. it's grown to about a 150 acres since last night kron four's camila barco joining us live now from santa cruz. >> with a little bit more details. good morning. camila. >> good morning, you guys. so yeah. calfire just wrapped up their briefing about an hour ago and they tell me like you guys said firefighters have made significant progress overnight take a look at your screen. this is what firefighters were battling in the middle of the night that start a fire started almost 24 hours ago. as you guys said, cal fire was conducting a prescribed burn out those flames jumped a containment line and spread. the fire has burned between a 100 to a 150 acres and is 10% contained as of this morning. crews were on scene all night to make sure that that fire didn't spread. now a new group of firefighters have just left

the fairgrounds to head to the scene to give back crew from overnight. a break. now the unit chief here from the santa cruz, san mateo area are hoping to get evacuees back home some time today. evacuation orders are still in place. and if you take a look at this map. you'll notice that they are in the and 7 area. the unit chief tells me no homes or structures are damaged. there was an evacuation center opened at core leaders community center. but that has sense being close now, if you're wondering about your evacuation zone if you have any questions, if you are under an evacuation order easiest way to find out is just going to zone. hey, that, of course, noel, will we have a lot information on our website at kron 4 dot com. back to you guys. >> alright camila, thank you for that live report. we do have some coronavirus news to get to this morning. an fda panel is endorsing booster. shots of the johnson and johnson vaccine. the panel voted to approve the shot. >> 4 americans, 18 and older

so we've designed this in a way where it's exciting for all different age groups. but it's not gore your scary. so it's kind of year and to assist on a haunted house. and that's really kind of what we've designed it could be is a great family. experienced. we got oprah winfrey now pumpkin like this will take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. the car. we were carving 12 hours a day in preparation for this at any given moment. there was somewhere between 6.10 carvers carving at that particular moment. feel that out here at our 40 foot long drag. and this is one of our crowd favorites. you can see the eye up there, the different style league. that is on each different part of the dragon. you don't car thousands and thousands of pumpkins and he'll come up with all these ideas and and bring it all together unless it's really something you love doing and enjoyed and we invite everyone to come out,

agree with the general although details are still a little sketchy. here's a look at the golden gate bridge of kind of up close and personal, if you will. but we haven't had much in the way of fog going on this morning. lower 60's line up the east bay shoreline. but inland. it's all 50's even up in the north bay. so we're chipping away at that christmas there's that affront out to sea. it's going to be a player looks like tomorrow evening and then it's going usher in more systems to look out for will be having all that for you coming up, 80 at 1 o'clock by 4 to 84. so you see we have inland 80 still holding on today. not going to be quite the case for tomorrow. if you're waiting for that fall-like weather or winter like weather. we've got more details on the way will and well. >> dave, well, we're watching the weather conditions specifically what happens in santa cruz county where a cal fire says a prescribed burn actually got out of control and jumped a containment line. this is a time lapse and it's right over noel's right shoulder of the estrada fire that actually started yesterday and still burns this

morning. evacuation orders are in effect right now as fire crews are trying to get those flames under control. kron four's camila barco is joining us live now from santa cruz. she's been there all morning long. she's got the very latest details for us. good morning. camila. >> morning you guys. yeah. we're just learning that the fire has burned 83 acres and it is 10% contained. we're also learning that the power in that area is back on as you take a look at your screen. this is what firefighters have been battling all night. it's called stratify as you guys mentioned. and this is near hazel dell and hidden canyon road. it's northwest of watsonville in santa cruz. now it started almost 24 hours ago as cal fire was conducting a prescribed burn and like will said those flames jumped a containment line and spread now prescribed burns are common and they normally go as planned. however, the unity for the area says there was a mishap.

>> 9 members of the time these things go off without a hitch. no problems get out of control jumper containment lines. reason we did this yesterday as we had prescription level good weather and met with them prescription. and it was an ideal situation for us to be able to get good consumption of the fuel and we just had this mishap. it was a it was about. 80 feet 100 feet of tying this thing all in. and we had a spot get across the line. and like i said earlier about the star resources. >> now evacuations orders are in place. if you take a look at this map. you'll notice that they are in the harlow and summit area. chief tells me that no homes or structures are damaged, but crews are going to survey the area and no work with the sheriff's department and the goal is to start getting people back in their homes around noon today. now the county did open an evacuation site for people at her leaders community center. but just an update and has since been closed. now we've been monitoring the progress here made on the straw to

fire. and as soon as we know more on their progress. we'll keep you updated back to you. >> alright camila camila. i know that earlier we were saying it was 150 acres that were but now we're saying it's just 83. does that mean just 83 of those 150 is still burning. >> so if i had made a call to cal fire to get that question answered at this time. i have not gotten a call back, but it could be an overestimate that they made earlier. but at this time we don't have a confirmed answer. okay. thank you for that live report on. >> in santa barbara county highway one oh, one along the got vo coastline is back open in both directions following its closure because of the fire. the fire burned. nearly 17,000 acres. and so far this morning, 41% contained. the railway parallel to one o one is reopened this morning and amtrak's pacific surfliner and

coast starlight. they are expected to resume service in both directions. 3 homes. unfortunately have been destroyed, including one abandoned house and a mobile home. >> some stunning video from the san joaquin valley. this is the knp complex fire burning in sequoia and kings canyon national parks containment has jumped to 45%. some incredible video here, though, after nearly 1500 firefighters responded to this brush fire burned about 88,000 acres total crews have been trying to save the sequoia trees in that area by wrapping them up with a certain type of tin foil that can withstand high heat. but sadly this fire has burned at least 2 giant sequoia groves. >> right kron 4 dot com. you can find more information on being prepared for fire season. remember, we're still in the heart of it, especially next month. that's when i can really think as far as fires

>> some promising news about bart's south bay extension. officials say it's still on track to open. not next year and that the year after that. but at least the 9 years. so right now it seems to be on time. the santa clara valley transportation authority. they're expected to issue its first 2 major construction contracts next summer for tunneling in trackwork parks. bart says the 6 mile extension into san jose could cause roughly about 6.8 billion dollars. and in that money for that money. they will get 4 new stations. most of the work is expected to be completed by 2028 with a targeted opening of 2030. >> is going to be offering extended late night service on halloween. they have not fully released. the service plan just yet. but they say they plan to offer service beyond 09:00pm. of course, halloween is on a sunday. bart already offers midnight service monday
